At the time of recovering voting disk

os:redhat linux
rdbms:10.2.0.1
clusterware:10.2.01.
hai...
we are using three voting disks for our cluster.i have taken backup of these three voting disks indivdually.like voting_disk1_bkp,voting_disk2_bkp,voting_disk3_bkp
suddenly the drive of voting_disk_file2 file has failed.
now i have to recover the voting_disk_file2.which method do i need to follow?
1)dd if=voting_disk2_bkp of=voting_disk_name
or
2)crsctl add css votedisk <path>
and why should we take individual backup of votking disks?
is these three voting disks are not equal?
please guide me.
v.s.srinivas

Also be aware that in 10g theres a bug; Some of the the docs and books say that you can do "crsctl add css votedisk " with the "-force" option to add a voting disk with the cluster up. This can cause corruption - see Note:390880.1

I'm trying to set up time machine to back up on an external HD connected t my airport extreme, but the disk doesn't show as an option in the time machine selecting a disk, any suggestion anyone? My mac "sees" the airport extreme   ??

The first important thing to consider here is that Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, so that may likely have something to do with your difficulties.
If you want to continue to try this, the drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and you almost always have to use a powered USB hub with a drive at the port of the Extreme...even if the hard drive has its own power supply....because the port on the Extreme is under powered.
Most users who try this unsupported method have corruption difficulties sooner or later, but we do hear from some users who seem to be able to make it work.
The bottom line is that there is no support from Apple on this if you have difficulties, so you may want to consider a secondary backup plan for your important data.

  • Can I encrypt the time machine back up disk?

I have about 62GB on my time machine back up disk. It just occured to me that anybody who gets a hold of my back up disk, has all my info. Is there anyway to encrypt the back up disk, and password protect it?
If there is will I still be able to use this back up in case of data loss from my computer?
    Thanks.

You can't restore a Time Machine backup made with Snow Leopard onto a system with Tiger. You can, but you will damage Mac OS X.
In order to restore your Time Machine backup, you should have your Snow Leopard disc. Then, insert it and hold the C key while your MacBook Pro is starting. Finally, choose your language, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar), choose the option to restore the backup and follow its steps, so you will recover Mac OS X Snow Leopard

  • Recovering Voting Disk

    Hello,
This is a general know-how question for Oracle 11.2.0.3 RAC.
Assuming I have only one voting disk with no mirrors and it has got corrupted. How do I recover it?
    Regards,
    Suddhasatwa

    Can you paste here ?
    crsctl query css votedisk
crsctl stat res -tIf you sure your Vote disk is corrupted, then you can use below steps, recover vote disk.
    1. Stop crs on all the nodes(if it does not stop, kill ohasd process and retry)
crsctl stop crs -f2. Start crs in exclusive mode on one of the nodes (host01)
crsctl start crs -excl3. Start asm instance on host01 using pfile
    echo INSTANCE_TYPE=ASM >> /u01/app/oracle/init+ASM1.ora
    chown grid:oinstall /u01/app/oracle/init+ASM1.ora
    SQL>startup pfile='/u01/app/oracle/init+ASM1.ora';4. Create a new diskgroup votedg
    5. Move voting disk to data diskgroup – voting disk is automatically recovered using latest available backup of OCR.
crsctl replace votedisk +votedg5. Stop crs on host01(was running in exclusive mode)
crsctl stop crs5. Restart crs on host01
crsctl start crs6. Start cluster on all the nodes and check that it is running
    crsctl start cluster -all
    crsctl stat res -tRegards

  • After servicing my laptop recently, I can no longer find the time machine back up disk

I recenty had my macbook pro serviced after the hard drive cable was broken. Upon return, when I attempt to back up to time machine it says backup disk not available and I cannot find any disks to select in time machine preferences. Any idea how to fix this?

    aimehunter,
if you had Time Machine running without connecting an external drive directly to your MacBook Pro, then it must have been a wireless connection to an AirPort Time Capsule.
Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. Does it show that you have a destination drive selected there? If not, press the Select Disk… button to select your AirPort Time Capsule drive. After that, select Back Up Now from the Time Machine icon in your menu bar to restart your regular Time Machine backups.

Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing.

  • Mac pro running slow, rainbow all the time, can't repair disk

So about a week ago my mac pro was running fine as i worked for a few hrs. then all the sudden i was clicking through firefox and i got a rainbow, it lasted ten minutes and i couldn't close the program, when i tried to click anything else it froze as well. I restarted, it went to grey screen froze, restarted itself, the booted as normal and ran fine. Then all the sudden it did again later the next night while working in photoshop. I went through my programs, deleted firefox and msn msgr as culprits, worked ok, then did it again while in safari. I closed everything rebooted, ran ONLY safari and it got the rainbow again. I went and verified my permissions, had some issues repaired them. Same rainbows. I went and tried to verify disk and i got issues with incorrect block count. "volume bit map needs minor repair" "volume header needs minor repair" I rebooted in target disk mode, used my macbook pro to run disk utility and try to repair. Got the same "error: filesystem verify or repair failed." i'm really out of ideas at this point asides reformatting and hoping for the best. Anyone have another solution?

Jonny, Balto's response wasn't particularly helpful. Yes, we know the SBBOD means the processor is busy.
My MBP is doing some of the same things as yours. And unfortunately, the problem seems to be getting worse. I've noticed that when TM starts its backup it just locks up everything. Disk Utility and Disk Warrior are no help.
I'm onto wiping the HD and doing a clean install and see if that fixes things. Best of luck to you and hope someone gets back to you on a possible solution.

  • How do I define 2 disk groups for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window

    Hello,
It may sound too easy to someone but I need to ask it anyway.
I am in the middle of building Oracle RAC 11.2.0.3 on Linux. I have 2 storage and I created three LUNs in each of storage so 6 LUNs in total look in both of servers. If I choose NORMAL as a redundancy level, is it right to choose my 6 disks those are created for OCR_VOTE at the grid installation? Or should I choose only 3 of them and configure mirroring at latter stage?
The reason why I am asking this is that I didn't find any place to create asm disk group for ocr and voting disks at the oracle grid infrastructure installation window. In fact, I would to like to create two disk groups in which one of groups contains three disks those were brought from storage 1 and the second one contains rest three 3 disk that come from the last storage.
I believe that you will understand the manner and help me on choosing proper way.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    You have 2 Storage H/W.
You will need to configure a Quorum ASMDisk to store a Voting Disk.
Because if you lose 1/2 or more of all of your voting disks, then nodes get evicted from the cluster, or nodes kick themselves out of the cluster.
You must have the odd number of voting disk (i.e 1,3 or 5)  one voting disk per ASM DISK, So 1 Storage will hold more voting disk than another storage.
    (e.g 3 Voting Disk - 2 voting stored in stg-A and 1 voting disk store in stg-B)
If fail the storage that hold the major number of  Voting disk the whole cluster (all nodes) goes down. Does not matter if you have a other storage online.
    It will happen:
    https://forums.oracle.com/message/9681811#9681811
You must configure your Clusterware same as RAC extended

  • AIX 6.1 - Do we need HACMP to store the OCR and Voting Disks on Raw Logical

We are planning to install 11G r1 rac on AIX 6.1. We will use clusterware and ASM. We would like to avoid GPFS and HACMP.
We plan to put the Clusterware OCR and Voting Disks on Raw Logical Volumes.
I do not believe we need HACMP. see the passage below from doc:
    Oracle® Clusterware
    Installation Guide
11g Release 1 (11.1) for AIX Based Systems
    B28258-05
Configuring Raw Disk Devices for Oracle Clusterware Without HACMP or GPFS
If you are installing Oracle RAC on an AIX cluster without HACMP or GPFS, then you
must use shared raw disk devices for the Oracle Clusterware files. You can also use
shared raw disk devices for database file storage. However, Oracle recommends that
you use Automatic Storage Management to store database files in this situation.
This section describes how to configure the shared raw disk devices for Oracle
Clusterware files (Oracle Cluster Registry and Oracle Clusterware voting disk). It also
describes how to configure shared raw devices for Oracle ASM and for Database files,
if you intend to install Oracle Database, and you need to create new disk devices.
    Question:
Do we need HACMP to store the OCR and Voting Disks on Raw Logical Volumes? According to the passage above we do not.

You can archive log either in shared location or separate location associated with each instance. Oracle recommends using a shared location for all the instances in a RAC configuration. Check the topic "Location of Archived Logs for the Cluster File System Archiving Scheme" in Clusters Administration and Deployment Guide

  • My old backups on the Time Machine disk are not accessible.

    Hi everyone,
I installed a fresh OS X Mountain Lion yesterday. I tried to use Migration Assistant (in the Utilities folder) for the first time, to migrate my old data from the Time Machine back-up disk.
After almost 6 hours, my data was completely in place from the backup disk. In fact, the data was gotten from the latest version of backups as I expected. But now, when I go to Time Machine to browse my old backups, it seems that all backups are still there, detected by the Time Machine itself, but it is not possible to access any of them.
In fact, selecting one of the past backups from the Time-Line on the right edge of the screen, has no effect. All the windows behind the current finder window in the Time Machine are also dimmed, seems that no backups are there. But the Time-Line on the right edge of the screen displays several items from the first backup on my disk to the latest which was for the day before yesterday.
This is not what I expected from the Time Machine. I was so glad when the Migration Assistant read all my data from the backup disk and put them in place. But I did not expect to lose my old backups which are still there on the disk, but Time Machine behaviour is like the times where there are no backups.
It is important to note that before migrating data using Migration Assistant, I was able to browse all my backups in the Time Machine. This was also one the great features of Time Machine, since I had a fresh OS installation, and all my data from the past were accessible in the Time Machine.
I could also get my data one by one and restore them in-place using Time Machine but it was some how cumbersome.
Now is there any one to let me know why this has happened? I Appreciate your time to write.

  • Mac loses Time Capsule (3TB, MD033) disk all the time

Hello! Strange problem - my OS X devices (iMac 2012 27* and MacBook Retina 13 2013)  lose Time Capsule 3TB disk all the time.
To be more precise: in finder when I click AirPort I have a "Connecting..." rolling all the time.
2-3 minutes pass and iMac connects OK. Only to lose this disk again some time later.
I would blame malfunctioning TC but I replaced it already to absolutely new one and have EXACTLY the same problems.
The most amusing - is that physically connection is perfect. If you opened file from this disk (for example, watching the film, or copying the  file from or to it) it NEVER fails. you watch the film from TC disk dor few hours and everything is fine. Besides, my PC connected to the same TC NEVER loses connection. But iMac (wire connection) and MacBook - have same symptoms.
Furthermore - Time Machine (both on iMac or MacBook) NEVER loses this disk and makes a backup even if I cannot access this disk from Finder.
And one more strange thing - the Time  Machine WAS losing disk, before upgrade to 10.10.1 (from 10.10). But after installing 10.10.1 the problem was gone from Time Machine but remained for Finder.
I wonder - what's wrong with it? Is seems so unlikely for apple to have such bugs.

Oh you are quite wrong.. Apple have heaps and heaps of network bugs.. Yosemite went a bridge too far with the wireless handoff to iOS.. that causes mayhem.. but there are other issues as well.
Someone posted a solution.. See this thread.
Macbook can't find Time Capsule anymore
Start from the bottom and work up.. I have a list of good network practice changes but I have avoided Yosemites bug heaven.
This user has had success and a few others as well.

  • Links and Migration Assistant from the Time Machine

I have a MacBook Pro with one internal hard disk and two external Firewire hard disks.
The first external hard disk is the Time Machine back up disk.
The second external hard disk is the target for my recovery efforts.
    The is how it went:
    1. Erase the second external hard disk writing zeros to it.
    2. Did a Time Machine volume restore from the first external hard disk to the second.
    3. The Time Machine crashed gloriously within 2 minutes, and 0.7% of the files restored.
This is a small portion of the crash log report:

The target hard disk is unusable.
    4. Erased the target disk and wrote zeros to it.
    5. Used Carbon Copy Cloner to copy a plain Leopard image.
    6. Used Migration Assistant to get my users, applications, etc. to migrate from Time Machine.
I chose all the options to migrate data and settings.
    7. The reason to use Migration Assistant to get the data from Time Machine was because I suspected that the Time Machine backup might be corrupted. (The volume restore fails every single time.) I was trying to see if Migration Assistant would also crash. My reasoning was that a successful Migration Assistant would not prove anything, a crash would point to corruption in the Time Machine backup.
    8. I booted from my internal hard drive and so far I've found the three weirdness:
    a. A password stored by Safari reverts to an old value.
    b. iTunes shows me the License Agreement to Agree/Disagree.
    c. QuickTimePro registration is blanked out.
    So, the question is:
*Did Migration Assistant modify my internal drive because of links?*
    Roberto Sepulveda

    Stefano,
    1. Boot from the Leopard installation disc by pressing the letter C while doing a restart.
    2. Choose the language.
    3. Click on Utilities on the Menu bar.
    4. Select Restore System from Time Machine.
    5. Select which Time Machine backup is the source for the restore
    6. Select which disk is the target for the restore
    a. Consider that the restore may fail leaving your target volume unusable
    b. Consider that the restore will rename the target volume to the name of the source volume,
so you might end up with duplicate names.
    Hope this helps.
    Roberto

  • Why doesnt my external drive show up in the time machine window when im trying to set it up wirelessly

my external hardrive doesnt show up in the time machine window for disk selection . i connected it to a usb hub it shows up when i do the manual setup but it still doesnt show up in the disk window . any help am i missing something ?

The supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.
If you want to learn more about Time Machine, Pondini is an excellent resource.

  • Time Machine error: backup disk image could not be created

Iet up my new time capsule day and it's working great. Now that I've got everything sorted out, I'm ready to do the initial time machine back up on it. I went into preferences, changed the backup location to my TC and clicked 'back up now'. Very quickly I get a message that the backup failed: "Time Machine Error - The backup disk image could not be created".
I've searched the apple support area but haven't been able to figure this one out. Can anyone help, please? This is an initial backup. (FYI, it worked great on my old external drive.)
    Many thanks

I had the same problem. I installed my Time Capsule, fired up Time Machine and got an error that said "The backup is too large for the backup volume. The backup requires 436.8 GB but only 182.2GB are available."
Coincidently, these are the same sizes as the space used and the space available on my iMac's drive.
I looked in /Volumes and saw that the sparsebundle was being created on the local disk and not on the main disk. Trying to backup again gave me the "Time Machine error: backup disk image could not be created." message.
I poked around the forums, and found a post about the machine name setting in sharing. I decided to give it a look, and lo and behold, I did not have a machine name. So I gave my box a name, kicked off Time Machine again, and it worked.

  • Why only one voting disk showing while vote diskgroup has three disks?

    Hi, experts,
OUr diskgroup OCR_VOTE did have three disks, see below:
    SQL> select group_number, name, path from v$asm_disk;
    GROUP_NUMBER NAME PATH
    2 ASMDISK01 ORCL:ASMDISK01
    2 ASMDISK02 ORCL:ASMDISK02
    2 ASMDISK03 ORCL:ASMDISK03
    2 ASMDISK04 ORCL:ASMDISK04
    2 ASMDISK05 ORCL:ASMDISK05
    2 ASMDISK06 ORCL:ASMDISK06
    3 ASMDISK07 ORCL:ASMDISK07
    3 ASMDISK08 ORCL:ASMDISK08
    3 ASMDISK09 ORCL:ASMDISK09
    1 OCR_VOTE01 ORCL:OCR_VOTE01
    1 OCR_VOTE02 ORCL:OCR_VOTE02
    1 OCR_VOTE03 ORCL:OCR_VOTE03
    However only one votedisk exsited:
    +ASM1$ crsctl query css votedisk
    ## STATE File Universal Id File Name Disk group
    1. ONLINE 4722e13b38c14fa0bfcce2db1dcb7b84 (ORCL:OCR_VOTE01) [OCR_VOTE]
    Located 1 voting disk(s).
How do I have three votedisks?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you for response.
I checked asmcmd, and under voting diskgroup, there are two folders:
    Y ASMPARAMETERFILE/
    Y OCRFILE/
    ASMCMD> cd ASMPARAMETERFILE/
    ASMPARAMETERFILE UNPROT COARSE FEB 14 2012 Y REGISTRY.253.775250583
    ASMCMD> cd ocrfile
    OCRFILE UNPROT COARSE NOV 28 01:00:00 Y REGISTRY.255.775250583
our DB spfile per show parameter spfile , it shows it stored at DAT diskgroup instead of vote diskgroup.
    So my questions here are:
1). since spfile in database shows:
    SQL> show parameter spfile
    spfile string +DAT/prd/spfileprd.ora
The spfile under vote diskgroup must be for ASM instance. How do I move that? seems have to bounce asm to move it somewhere else. that will cause some disturbance to the services.
2). is that under OCR_file, the ocr file including voting disks?
Since OCR files are mirrored like this:
    ocrcheck
Status of Oracle Cluster Registry is as follows :
    ID : 546691893
    Device/File Name : +OCR_VOTE
    Device/File integrity check succeeded
    Device/File Name : +FRA
    Device/File integrity check succeeded
Is that means I can delete the one at vote disk and the one on FRA should still serve the purpose?
    Thanks again.
