At wits end trying to set up router with this laptop!

I am very frustrated trying to setup any router with this laptop.
I am also trying to run a wired G3 beige (OS 9.1) ethernet connection.
I have tried both a Airport Extreme and a Netgear WGR614. Both of these routers have worked in the past, but not now!
Once in a while I can achieve connectivity through the router, but nothing consistent.
The internet connection works just fine when the router is removed from the network.
I am well aware that the problem maybe some very simple setting or sequence of operations in configuring the network - but I am very much out of ideas, inspiration, and patience.
1.Does anybody have any ideas?
2.Does anybody know of a complete idiots' guide to setting up these routers? (Netgear is NO help)
3.Is there anything inherently wrong about trying to run a wired G3 with OS 9 and a wireless G4 with OS 10.4 from the same router?

I would take a close look at possible radio interference, from nearby routers, cordless telephones, microwave ovens, and so on. If 2 routers worked before and now do not, this says something. Have a friend with a wireless laptop try your signal.
Generally, routers can be default configured and work, although they'll be totally unsecure, which is dangerous. There should be no issues with having an OS9 and OSX computers using the router. Sorry, router settings take a while to learn and are a little different for each brand. Intermittent operation isn't typical of any setting that I know of, WITH THE EXCEPTION that selecting other radio channels sometimes helps.
As the Rabbit mentions, your computer could have a flaw, so you have to test this by having another wireless user try your signal.
BTW, I have encountered a consistent problem through the last few OSs of my Airport reception working fine mostly, then suddenly dying with no indication (other than the net stops working). I have to turn Airport off, then on again to get it working again. This is so annoying, I generally use ethernet now.

"Orphan Timeline" & "End Action Not Set." What does this mean????

I am setting up a Blu-Ray DVD in Encore. I have a project on a Premiere Pro CS 5.5 Timeline, which is 2 and a half hours long with 24 Encore chapters in it. I have not yet Encoded it in Media Encoder as of yet.
I am setting up all my menus and buttons in Encore so all I have to do is link the buttons to them main project when I do encode it and then I can just Check it and Burn it.
I did check my project just now though and all buttons came up with 2 Errors:
1) Orphan Timeline
2) End action not set.
1) "Orphan Timeline", I assume that means that the button is not linked to any timeline as of yet, correct? (This would be true because there is no main project timeline in there yet.)
2) "End action not set." What does this mean? Will this go away once I add my whole project into Encore and I link up all of the buttons to the timeline?

Both of these suggest that you created a timeline in the Encore project, perhaps with no "asset" in it.
Yes, ignore both messages for now. But I prefer creating the timeline after, or along with, importing the asset into the Encore project.
If you believe you have not created a timeline, post a screenshot of your "flowchart."

If you already have the latest version of Desktop Software, can you verify if you are running a Click to Run installation of Outlook? You can check this in Outlook -> Help -> About Microsoft Outlook. After the download the program must be installed.
If you did not setup Find My iPod it is not setup and can't be setup now.

Trying to set up router

I am so aggravated that I have wasted 6 hours of my life on this. I need some basic information in order to set up my new router. I have Verizon DSL but don't know where to find the most basic info. What I need to know is:
What protocol does Verizon use for establishing a connection? PPoE? Dynamic? or Static?
If PPoE:
What is the account name?
What is the domain name?
What is the DNS address of the primary server?
What is the DNS address of the secondary server? (if there is one)
If Dynamic:
What is the account name?
What is the domain name?
What is the DNS address of the primary server?
What is the DNS address of the secondary server? (if there is one)
If Static:
What is the DNS address of the primary server?
What is the DNS address of the secondary server? (if there is one)
What is the isp service name--if a service name is required?
What is the isp host name?
What is the isp service name?

Verizon uses all three, depending on what you've ordered and where you live. Most likely you are using PPPoE connectivity. The ONLY thing you should need to fill into your router is the Username and Password. In most areas that can be anything, but they are typically the Username and Password for the Master account on your DSL line (What you use to log into Verizon mail and change Verizon account settings). IP addresses, DNS servers, and Default Gateways will be obtained automatically when PPPoE connectivity is established. Keep in mind, using PPPoE on your router requires your DSL modem to be bridged!
Your DSL modem if you log into it at http://192.168.1.1/ while directly connected to it will tell you what protocol your DSL line is set to use. It will say PPP/PPPoE as the protocol, or "Routed Bridge" for DHCP.
Also as a tip, if you do not wish to use the DNS servers Verizon uses, choose from any of the IPs below to use instead. These will not redirect you to some Verizon-branded search page if a site is not found:

If you need to bridge your DSL modem, you can do so by logging into http://192.168.1.1/ while directly connected to the modem and choosing My Network. From there, clicking Network Connections and choosing the DSL network will take you to another settings page. Edit the option located under "VC Settings" to use "Bridge" with "Bridge" mode instead of PPPoE, then save and allow the modem to reboot. From here your router will be able to use PPPoE connectivity.

Having trouble setting up router with verizon modem

im trying to set up my linksys router wrt54gs with my verizon dsl modemr. im having a hard time.

Try these steps :
Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
- Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If you are getting Ip - 192.168.1.X ...change the LAN Ip to 192.168.2.1 ....Power cycle for 3-4 minutes ...
Try going online
If still not working ...use Internet Connection type as PPPOE .... Use Username & Password provided by Service Provider ....
Click save settings....
Look for WAN IP address again under status page ....

Setting up router with ethernet bridge

I have a new computer and want to re-setup my Linksys Model BEFSX41 Version 2 broadband firewall router with the Linksys Model WET11 wireless-b ethernet bridge to use my laptop wirelessly. I don't want the desktop pc to be wireless, just the laptop. Do I follow the steps in the FAQ "Hos do I setup my Cable modem with my Linksys Router?". Then are there more instructions for the ethernet bridge?
The pc is in the basement with the cable modem and Linksys router. The ethernet bridge is upstairs where the laptop is. Is this easy enough do to, or am I better off paying $75 to a computer tech to come to my house to do it?

You cannot do the job that you described with the equipment that you listed.
It is not clear from your note how you intend to use the WET11. A wireless bridge is designed to receive a wireless signal (from a wireless router) and send it to a computer that is wired to the WET11.
For example, the following setup would work:
modem -- wireless router )))      ((( Wet11 -- computer
but you never mentioned that you have a wireless router.
Note that your WET11 cannot broadcast a network, for example, the following DOES NOT work:
modem -- BEFSX41 -- WET11 )))      ((( wireless computer
However, instead of (incorrectly) trying to use the WET11 to broadcast a network, you could use a WAP (wireless access point) to broadcast your network.   For example, the following would work:
modem--BEFSX41--WAP )))   ((( wireless computer
                                  and/or   ((( WET11--wired computer
For a WAP, you could use a WAP54G or a WAP200.

Time Capsule set up issue with older laptop

I just got my time capsule. Set up went smoothly with iMac, iPhones, Ipads, new PC, Wii, DirectTV. When I tried to set up a 4 yr old Toshiba laptop, it would find the wifi, but did not work. I tried to rename my network with less than 25 characters, no spaces, and no special characters. Still no luck. Please help.

You still need to find out what wireless card is used and download the latest drivers from the card manufacturer..
Some wireless simply never works.. it is reality of wireless. And vista is the worst most horrible OS MS ever released..
I can only suggest things.
1. Apple names are not SMB compatible.. change the name for wireless to short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. You say you

2. Turn off wireless security and test.
3. Use fixed wireless channels.. for 2.4ghz those are 11, 6, 1 .. try in that order.
4. No luck simply go and buy a USB wireless stick and use that.
Or buy a simple network bridge device.. the obvious one is airport express and use the laptop with ethernet plugged in.. avoiding wireless altogether is the best solution .. since ethernet drivers are much more reliable and stable.
5. Or use a simple standard wireless router plugged into the TC for use by the Toshiba. You run it in bridge or WAP mode if it has one or wan bypass which I can explain. A $35 wireless router can perform this function and work better than the TC ever will.

HT1386 I am trying to sync my iphone with my laptop using itunes. Items that I enter on my laptop (Windows Outlook) show up on my iphone. But items that I enter on iphone do not show up in Outlook. How do I fix this?

I purchased an iphone 4 in July 2012. I set it up to synch with Windows Outlook on my 2009 HP laptop computer (Windows 7). This seemed to work fine.
A few weeks ago, I was notified that my itunes or iphone software needed updating. With my iphone plugged into my computer, I performed the update. When it was over, I had an error message on my iphone indicating that it needed to be reset. I did this and there was no information on my iphone. I then synched with the laptop and everything appeared to be restored.
HOWEVER, now when I synch, items that I enter on my laptop show up on my iphone BUT items that I enter on my iphone do NOT show up on my laptop. How do I fix this?

All content bought/downloaded from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it and it can't be transferred to a different account - so you will need to authorise your old account on that computer if you want to transfer its purchases over.

I'm at my wits end trying to use my unlocked Iphone 4s.

I have been trying to figure this one out for the last week but to no avail.
I have an iphone 4s that is unlocked, it accepts any sim, when I switch the phone on to set it up it shows my network and full coverage but once I try to create an icloud id and get passed the initial setup my coverage bars drop to zero(carrier name is still there)
I have tried updating the iOS and itunes and performing a factory reset but this isn't fixing the issue at all.
Please any help would be much appreciated as I don't think I've ever been more frustrated with an in-animate object, it's on a very fast collision course with my wall unless the issue is resolved soon.

At wits end trying to configure AE correctly Please Help!

The Dads.conf file has
Alias /i/ "h:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\htmldb\apache\apache\images/"
which is where the images directory is located (copied from installation directory as instructed).
But going to the html administration pages and no images show up and login does not succeed. BTW this is about my third time going through this because of system changes.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Just resolved Back to my Mac issue called Apple Suppport in the UK and they were really helpful if the error DNS server not responding the problem is with Apple server not your server ( I had tried to reboot by router, restart my laptop etc.

I was having problem with my Back to my Mac as message was saying DNS Server not responding . I tried to turn my WIFI off, then my router to no avail. Decided to call Apple Support line in the UK . I got a call back immediatly and great support. The advisor took over my screen and we check that my laptop was synchronising with I phots and it was. The adviser also told that when the message DNS server is not responding next to Back to my Mac is has to do with Apple Server not mine , router etc... Hope this save others some time! Rather than spending time truining on and off changing IP address etc...

Thanks for your thorough post. I too need to use BTMM on almost a daily basis for my job, and it has fallen short countlness times. I too have taken great pains to check all of the typical trouble shooting steps within iCloud and in the Apple keychain on each Mac etc, but after the latest rounds of system updates from Apple a few weeks ago to Mountain Lion, BTMM on one of my Macs is completely broken and unusable. I would concur that if you need remote access for "real" mission critical use, just bite the bullet and pay for a service like LogMeIn. You won't regret it and you will get real software support.
