ATA vs VG202 vs VIC3-2FXS-E/DID & Wireless

What is best solution moving forward?
Fax server probably two years out.
Background:
I have 34 locations
30 locations have 2 analog devices
4 Operations have 26, 14, 15, 10 analog devices
Currently we use ATA 188 and 186 and one VIC2-2FXS
We Have intermittent problems receiving faxes from Fax servers or other customers in general.

The VG20x are nice because you can use them as a full blown router (VPN, IGP, etc).
I think you'll have more cost per port using a VIC3 rather than VG204. Their capabilities will be equal, as opposed to when the ATAs were in use.
The ATAs are on their way out, and I think you'll find the VG20x to be an easier product to use and it will work better with faxes/modems. The ATAs don't have great fax/modem support where the VG20x will have T38 support and modem support.
For the locations with 15+ devices it may be worth looking into the VG224 as well, depending on usage.

  • VIC3-2FXS/DID VS VIC3-2FXS-E/DID

    hi all,
we'll upgrade our router from 2811 to 2911.
the current 2811 uses VIC2-2FXS but saw on cisco's website that we need a VIC3 instead.
i saw there's two versions of this card, the other has an 'E'.
what's the difference between the two? can i just get a VIC3-2FXS/DID?

    Hi John,
The difference is explained in the following link
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/ip-communications-voice-fax-network-modules/product_data_sheet0900aecd801c595e.html
VIC3-2FXS-E/DID is designated as an "Off-Premise Extension Lite" product offering. This means that while the module addresses a subset of the off-premise extension applications, it should be noted that the module is not in full compliance for off-premise usage.

  • How to install 2-port vic3 2fxs/DID and 2-port vic2 fxo on cisco 2801 router

    Hello
I'm looking for information on how to install 2 newly purchased cards  and keep running into dead links. The cards I bought are for a  CISCO-2801-CCME/K9 with PVDM2-8, FL-CCME-25, SP Services 128F/256D cisco  router:
    vic3 2fxs/DID and a vic2 2fxo.
I keep finding documents on how to  install these cards but all links are dead and leading to nowhere.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/interfaces/ic/hardware/installation/guide/2port_FXS_DID_VIC.html#wp1065062
The  2 documents i'm looking for are: how to install a 2-port vic2 fxo cards on cisco  2801 router and how to install 2-port vic3 2fxs/DID cards on the same 2801 cisco  router.
NOTE: I've never installed these cards and am not sure if:
Does my  ios support both of these cards?
and which slots do I install those in the  router.
I have 4 slots like this:
slot 0: This slot only accepts VIC's   ***This could be used for the vic3 2fxs/DID card correct?
slot 1: Nothing  written here  ****What can i install in this slot?
slot 2: This slot only  accepts VIC's and WIC's  ***If I buy a WIC and install here which other slot can  i install my VIC2-2FXO card in ?
slot 3: Nothing written here  ***What can i  install in this slot?
Any chance someone can help me out with this.
    Thanks  very much

    Ok
I was able to figure out what goes where and found out that the IOS i had c-2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-15.T10.bin with cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar didn't support the vic3 2fxs/DID card. I then found the one that works which is the c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-22.YB5.bin.I am now able to see my new hardware interfaces. The question I have now is since the previous version ran with cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar i'm not sure if this needs to be changed since in the compatibility matrix i found this IOS c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-22.YB5.bin to be compatible with cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar
Do i need to remove cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar and install the cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar?
If yes, i know how to install the cme-full-7.1.0.0 tar but how do i remove the other cme-full-4.1.0.2 tar file in order to be able to install the other version?
    Thanks

  • Vic3-2FXS/DID fax problem

I have a network in Beijing China below,
    (1) E1 Pri interface to PSTN
    (2) Vic3-2FXS/DID to fax machine
all these modules installed on Cisco 2900, when I call my fax machine from PSTN, the fax machine answered, but fax can't start.
I want to know is there any special consideration about the fax configuration to be worked.
    Thanks for your advice.

    2011/2/18

    Hey Robert.
Since you have PRI and the fxs port on the same card, in theory there is not a whole lot you need to do with regards to the fax or port configuration on the router if this is H323 or SIP.  On our initial voip gateways even on port to port calls we would invoke fax relay, but on the ISR line with the internal tdm backplane, the dsp should be dropped from the call with minimal impairment of the connection through the gateway.
Now, this is true as long as you don't have "no local-bypass' configured under the voice-card.  Default is that this is not configured but it you do, you should change it to local-bypass.  "show voice dsp active" will show if the dsp is still in the loop on the call as well.
Definitely check the E1 controller ("show controller e1") for slips and errors.  This will kill a fax if present.
Looking back at your previous post though, I would not expect you to be seeing G722 on the output of the show voice call summary when the call connects between the two ports.
    Are you using MGCP?
When the call is active between the two ports, what is the output of "show call active voice brief" and "show call active fax brief"?
There are a few good resources for troubleshooting fax issues.  An excellent source if the CiscoPress publication "Fax, Modem and Text for IP Telephony".  If you would like some of the scaled down versions, I have posted a couple of links that would be useful.

  • VIC3-2FXS/DID

    Hi everybody,
We have a CCM version 4.x and we need to connect two fax extensions on a VIC3-2FXS/DID card.
The problem is that the faxs are 6 floors up the CCM. Between floors are connected by Optical fiber thought Cisco Switchs. We can configure these faxs on that card?
    Thanks!!

    VIC3-2FXS/DID
If you have copper pairs to connect, yes.<-- means that if we connect the faxs to a switch and the VIC3-2FXS/DID  to the other switch with Ethernet cable it will work?

  • Why the ringing voltage closely 0v for VIC3-2FXS/DID port?

Initially, I have tested every port of FXS module on ISR with an analog phone. There
was ringing tone and I was able to communicate to other as normal. The second
test involved measuring the ringing voltage on the same ports by using a pair cable and multimeter. The
'idle voltage' measured was around 44V and when there was an incoming call, the measured 'ringing
    voltage' was close to 0V.
So why the ringing voltage is drop to 0V?
    Please advice.

You cannot measure ringing voltage with a common multimeter. Read why:

  • Did Wireless Mighty Mouse come with an installation CD?

I love my wireless mighty mouse that I bought with my imac but I want to use it with my newly purchased macbook as well. The only problem is, I can't seem to locate the installation CD that I'm assuming came with it.
The mouse DID come with a CD, correct? Is there anywhere else I can look - drivers embedded in Tiger OSX?
I've called Apple a couple times (on hold as I "speak"). Anyway, they haven't been able to help me too much, I spent 45 minutes last night and I just had to hang up with them and I couldn't get any answers. I will pay for it but I think maybe they're trying to see if they have any available CD's (I would imagine they should have some extras lying around :)!)
    Thanks for your help.
    Message was edited by: K8TY

You don't need the CD that comes with the Mighty Mouse. All you need to do is go to software update on the Apple menu icon and update your software. If there is any software for the mouse that needs updating, it will update.

  • VIC3-4FXO/DID module not detect in 2801 Router.

    Hi Team,
I have Cisco 2801 router with 2 DSP 16 Channel, 128 MB DRAM and 128 MB flash. I am using IOS c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-3i but the VIC3-4FXO/DID module is not detected. I tried to upgrade the IOS to 15.0 and 15.1 but the router is not boot up due to insufficient memory.  In that IOS the FXO card is detected.  I checked the data sheet of both router and FXO card it support 12.4T IOS but when I upload the IOS and try to boot same problem I have faced (router not boot due to insufficient memory).  Kindly help me find out the appropriate IOS to resolve the issue.
    Thanks in advance.

  • G3 Modem and ATA Controller Card

I am upgrading a B&W G3 350 MHz Yosemite running Tiger for some friends. They use dial-up (pooh) and the B&W did not ship with an internal modem. I found an Apple OEM on welovemacs.com for $60 ($10 more than the Apple USB). I am not sure which route to go (internal or USB). I am in a timed situation, so I am also considering a PCI modem. Any suggestions on the PCI modem (brand and model)? I know Tiger will not support some PCI modems.
Also, the G3 will not support larger HDDs. It currently has a 40 Gig drive in it. I tried installing an 80 Gig, but the ATA controller chip (Rev 1 logic board) did not recognize it. Any suggestions on a PCI based ATA controller card (brand and model)? Also, do these ATA controller cards usually ship with the power and data cables, or do I need to buy them separately? If so, any suggestions on which ones to buy and where?
I would appreciate any help as quickly as possible.
    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Grant,
"Only when you start to use them do you begin to notice more than a casual amount of crashes, lock-ups, and eventually, data corruption. An 80 GB hard drive should be recognized immediately if it is correctly cabled and the straps are set correctly. Both 80 GB and 40 GB drives may be encountering corruption problems on the built-in controller."
The 40 GB drive has been in this machine for at least 4 years. It was originally my machine given me by a Mac Genius buddy. I used it for over a year before I bought my G4. I then loaned the B&W to my cousin who used it for over 2 years before HE bought a G4 and returned the G3 to me.
When I installed the 80 Gig drive (which already had 10.3 installed), the machine would not boot from it. I booted from the Tiger install DVD and tried to install Tiger. The installation got all the way to the end, then the installation seemed to stop. I left the machine sit for about an hour, then heard the boot tone of the machine re-starting. It never booted, though. I got the gray Apple screen and could actually hear the "Welcome to Tiger" music coming from the speaker, but the gray Apple screen never went away.
I tried re-jumpering the drive, thinking I had gotten the jumper opposite of what it should be, but that didn't do any good either. I tried putting the drive in my Granite Digital external Firewire HDD casing, but the drive would never mount on my G4. So, I re-re-jumpered the drive back to the way I originally had it jumpered. It mounted on my G4 just fine at that point. So, I then installed Tiger via the external Firewire casing using my G4 tower. Tiger installed successfully, and I put the HDD back into the G3, but it STILL would not boot. It would never get past the gray Apple screen, or the machine would kernel panic if it did.
So finally, in desparation, I put the old 40 Gig that was in the machine when my cousin shipped it back to me, back into the G3 and it booted from it just fine. I later did a clean install of Tiger, and the machine still boots fine.
So, as you can see, it really seems that the ATA controller chip does not like the 80 Gig drive.
"Why not broaden your options with an external modem?"
I may indeed decide to go with the Apple external USB, but was told by a Specialist at the Apple Store that the new Apple USB modem might not work with the G3. My friend, whose parents I am setting the G3 up for, owns a MacBook Pro, so he can use the Apple USB if it does not work with the G3 and when and if his parents get broadband.
I still would like to know if a PCI based modem will work with the the G3. I found a post on this board late last night (after I posted this thread) where a user had a question similar to mine. He/she was trying to swap a PCI modem between a PC and a B&W. Whoever responded to the post stated that the B&W will not support ANY PCI based modems. It will only support the OEM Apple modem that plugs into the logic board near the USB and Firewire ports or an external USB modem (similar to, but not specifially the Apple USB modem).
    Thanks,
    Thomas

  • Failing HD's or is problem the main ATA bus

OK i'll try to give all the facts and keep this post as short as possable
I have G4 sawtooth? dual 1 gig with 3 hard drives, the 80 gig seagate that came with the G4 connected to the main ATA bus and about a year ago i added a 120 gig Maxtor as slave along with another Maxtor drive 80 gig i added as slave to the CD/DVD drive. Up to a couple of weeks ago no problems.
I leave my computer on at all times.
Both drives connected to main ata bus both drives running Tiger10.4.7
    and the third OS 9.2.2
the problem started if i needed to restart for any reason, upon booting back up 1 or the other did not show up, checked all the connections, even using a new ata cable.... no change, just a restart would cause one or the other not to appear never to the the 3rd drive.
The problem keep happining more freqently, getting to the point that both drives would not appear, so it only booted off the OS 9 drive.
Ran disk utility on both drives
Checking the slave drive with 4 partitions never indicated any problems,
A few weeks ago the Master drive{Seagate) gave me 2 errors, "could not unmount drive" same thing using Techtool, i could not verify permmisions, "no valid packages found"
    The drive still operated fine.
Now yesterday both drives would not show up and would only boot off the OS 9 drive.
Spent most of the night trying anything i could think of
One last thing struck me, I coneccted the OS 9 drive as master and pluged it into the main ata bus, you guessed it that drive did not boot,
after that i connected the other two drives to ata bus that the CD?DVD drive was connected to and upon starting up both drives are up and running fine so far (still got the same error messesages off the same drive as before).
So what am i dealing with here, i think there is a problem with the main ata bus.
So as of now im up and running with only 2 drives,
the third drive and the CD?DVD pluged into the main bus do not show up.
Well i think i covered everything, now anybody got any ideas on what's happining with the main ata bus, can't take it out to fix it, my only source of income is disability so paying someone is out of the question!
    What to do?
Thanks for reading this now i await to hear from you.

  • Cisco FXS Port - RJ11 to RJ45

    Hi,
I have a VIC3-2FXS/DID in Switerzland and my customer has asked for it to be connected to a fax machine through Strucuted cabling and they would like to know what type of cables they required.
They want RJ11 (FXS Port) to RJ45 (Patch Panel) then RJ45 (Patch Panel) to RJ11(Fax Machine).
Could someone explain the pins out of the cables, as it is going to be two RJ11 to RJ45 cables do they need to rollover?
    Thanks for any help.

All cabling on Cisco voice cards is straight through from the port to the device. RJ11 has 2 pins, for tip and ring.  That's blue and white/blue. RJ45 has 8 pins, but if you want to stick with the 568B wiring standard on the RJ45 jacks, you would use this.
    Blue: RJ11(pin1)----RJ45(pin 4)--------(pin4)RJ45-----(pin 1)RJ11
    White/Blue: RJ11(pin2)----RJ45(pin 5)--------(pin 5)RJ45-----(pin 2)RJ11
If you actually have RJ14 jacks (4 pins), its pins 2 and 3 (the middle pins) which are used.  If it is RJ25, it's still the middle pins, which would be 3 and 4.

  • Central recording server using MTP at remote

I am getting ready to implement a voice recording solution. We will be using auto recording / RTP forking. We will have centralized recording servers and wish to transcode the G.711 recording streams to G.729 using MTP on the remote site voice gateways. I am trying to calculate the required DSPs for this solution. I can see our current MTP max sessions when I configure the MTP, but I don't know if this equates to a 1 for 1 for recording sessions. There will be two recording streams in the same direction, remote to HQ this includes the agent and customer streams. Does anyone know how many MTP sessions are used per recording session?
I would assume it would be 1 MTP session per normal bi-directional call, but not sure with both streams going in the same direction for the recording sessions.
    Thanks,
    Mark

I have g711ulaw and g729r8 configured. There is a mix of 2811 and 2911 voice routers. This is a typical config.
