ATG and Endeca architecture strategy

Hi all.
I have an ATG multisite application with 3 distinct sites, each one with their own production server and Endeca app.
We are having some issues with Endeca indexing like the RepositoryExport /atg/commerce/search/ProductCatalogOutputConfig phase stays with Cleaning status.
So, here is my question. What server should trigger the index creation?
Thanks in advance,
Barcellos

Hi Barcellos,
I assume you will also be having a single CA server (BCC) which will deploy the catalog data to all the sites. Thus, as per my understanding, the CA server should trigger the endeca indexing automatically upon deployments.
Thanks,
Tejas

  • ATG with Endeca SEO and Sitemap

    Hi,
We are working on ATG 10.2 with Endeca 3.1.2 integration. It would be grateful if someone provides pros and cons of using Endeca SEO and Sitemap for this requirement. We do feel that ATG out of box is not providing any API for integrating Endeca SEO and we need to recreate the whole Endeca SEO framework in ATG. Please provide inputs. We are working on multisite feature with ATG where Endeca has language based MDEX for each country.

This has been done on a few projects, but if you wait for the upcoming version 11 releases of ATG and Endeca (probably in a week or two), you'll see that CRS now includes extensive use of the Endeca SEO modules.

  • Integrating WebCenter Sites 11.1.1.8 and Endeca

    Hi all,
What’s New in Oracle WebCenter Sites 11.1.1.8 document states there is an integration of WC Sites with Endeca.
"Oracle Endeca Integration: Incorporate faceted search and guided navigation into WebCenter Sites driven websites to deliver more precise, relevant and complete search results. Enable site visitors to find information quickly with guided navigation. This Proof-of-Concept (PoC) reference implementation demonstrates how to integrate Endeca cartridges within WebCenter Sites. It includes sample code and best practice guidance. It will be productized at a later date."
Could you please guide me to where to find such PoC and more info about this integration?
We need to accompplish integration of WCSites and Endeca GuidedSearch.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Juan

The recommendation from the Oracle WebCenter & ADF Architecture Team is to keep the parts decoupled, installing WebCenter Sites on a separate machine. Otherwise it would be leading towards a 'Type 3' integration. Specifically looking at the proof-of-concept application 'Spark', which requires WebCenter Sites and WebCenter Portal installed on the same machine:
+"Due to this co-deployment requirement, most clients have avoided installing or using Spark. And not without reason: installing two big, complex applications on the same environment is problematic with regards to scalability and tuning."+

  • ATG and BEA

    Hi,
Can I use both connection modules (plug-in) from BEA WebLogic and ATG Dynamo against
same ISS at the same time?
    Thanks,
    -Lu

there are several reason not to chose s.th. else:
    -- Bea
-portal runs on Bea appserver only
    - missing identity managment
    - missing policy management
    - third party product needed for SSO, e.g. Netegrity SiteMinder (expensive)
    - no hot deployment of channels/provider because portal+provider are one(!) web-app which has to be deployed as 1 web-app, downtime
-needs an additional DB like Oracle
-deployment, configuration is also done by XML files but the "rresult" is then stored in DB in different tables + filesystem and it can't be derived which values in which columns are from where (no real inheritance)
(it's easy to add a culomn during runtime (alter table) but remove a coulmn ??)
    -- ATG
niche player, same problems as Bea
    --Oracle
all has to be passed and managed by the database
    - impossible to differentiate between DB, appserver, webserver, portal, ..
    - installs 16 gb on the filesystem at once - for what ?
    --Sun
    - complete Identity + Policy System
    - protect internal resources by agents+policy system
    - secure remote access = gateway component
    - adds extra security in the DMZ
    - netlet: VPN-On-Demand
    - URL-Rewriting
    - new mobile access for ad hoc 2700+ devices
    - integrated search engine
    - hot deployment of channels/container/portlets
    - delegated admin functionality by IS admin console
    - complex desktop layout based on container and Display Profile technology possible
    - chnages during runtime possible
    - runs on Bea, IBM, Sun
    - next versions will support struts, JSFs portlets
    - JSR 168 support
    - JSR 188 supoort by MA
    - Voice support by MA (Voicelets)
    - HA and LB architectures possible for ALL components
    - runs on Solaris/Sparc
    - will run in Solaris/X86
    - will run on Linux
    - will run on W2K (for dev only)
What else do you want ?

  • Possible (and secure) architectures for E-Recruitment Web Enabled???

    Hello,
i need informations about posible (and secure) architecture solutions for E-Recruitment Web Enabled.
I found one basic exsample in the E-Recruiting system architecture guide, but it is a exsample from 2003.
do someone use E-Recruiting web enabled and in what for a topology?
    regards
    chris

    Hellow Christian,
Successful e-recruiting relies on strong long-term relationships with both current and potential employees u2013 and on the ability to locate appropriate positions for talented individuals from within and outside the organization. The SAP E-Recruiting application offers innovative support for talent relationship management, as well as traditional central recruiting functions.
SAP E-Recruiting, a fully Web-enabled, end-to-end recruiting solution, accelerates and streamlines the recruiting process with a comprehensive strategy that that enables your company to build up and draw from a qualified, global pool of internal and external talent. Recruiters can take advantage of this talent pool to quickly find the staff they need, while collaborating closely with hiring managers throughout the hiring process.
Applicant tracking and reporting functions help organize the processing of job applications and monitor the effectiveness of the recruiting organization. A collaboration platform links SAP E-Recruiting to external systems such as job boards, recruiting service providers, and your company's internal systems.

  • SAP Netweaver Portal - Folder structure and report publishing strategy

    Hi gurus,
I'm working on a project in which we are publishing BW reports in SAP Netweaver Portal (prior to this, we were using SAP Bex Browser) organizing it by Department (workset, 2nd lvl of navigation), Business Processes (workset, 3rd lvl of navigation) and "iview types" (transactions, queries, dashboards and so on). On 1st level we have a workset simply called "Reports".
For each PFCG role we have on BW (ABAP Server), we created a portal role and defined which of the higher navigation tiers is visible to users (delta-linking the top level navigation worksets to the portal role and setting visible accordingly) and then we assigned Portal roles to the appropriated Group (PFCG role) so all users that have access to certain PFCG role can have access to the corresponding Portal role.
    For example:
In BW (ABAP) we have a PFCG Role: Sales PMR Analysis - Administrator, which grants access to Sales Infoproviders, queries and data for PMR analysis. The user that have access to it, should be able to see:
    |Reports|
    |Sales Administration|
    v PMR Analysis
      > Web Queries
      > Transactions
      > Dashboards
      > Workbooks
In Portal we create a workset that has: "Reports" and under it, all Departments (Sales Administration, Financial, Services, Human Resources and so on) set as "not visible". We create a Portal role called PMR Analysis and add the Report/Departments workset, set Sales Administration as visible and add worksets/folders named PMR Analysis, Web queries, Transactions, etc, and all the corresponding iviews under it.
If we assign this new Portal role to the Group of the corresponding PFCG role, the user will see exactly as the example from above.
Pros: The users have a clean view of the reports he/she has access.
Cons: The users doesn't have a clear view of what is available in BW so he can request access. There might be some useful report lost in on of the hundreds of BW roles that he doesn't know it exist.
One of the options would be to grant visibility to ALL departments, business processes and iviews in Portal and let PFCG security roles control user access, but that might be confusing to have an overwhelming amount of links, making it hard to find what the user needs, specially during first access. Not to mention possible security breaches.
So, I'd like to know how other consultants are defining this kind of folder structure and report publishing strategy in Portal. Ideally we would like to be able to have:
    - Visibility of all existant reports even those that the user does not have acess (so he can learn that it exist and request access)
    - Clean view of reports, segmented by department and business processes.
    - Possibility to search for reports, even for those that the user does not have access.
I'd appreciate if you guys can share your experience on this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Leandro

This is not a refutation: your BW developers/consultants should be able to write reports, which points you in case of insufficent backend rights. EP is not designed to be familiar with ABAP security concept and cant take any influence at it.

    Yes, bad idea.
    - Visibility of all existant reports even those that the user does not have acess (so he can learn that it exist and request access)
As you already wrote on your own, this would be not good
    - Clean view of reports, segmented by department and business processes.
    - Possibility to search for reports, even for those that the user does not have access.
This is not covered by SAP, if you wanna provide that, develop it on your own.

  • Gap analysis between current and future architecture in BPA suite?

We are developing a vision of our enterprise architecture for the next three years, using BPA suite. We do this by describing the current architecture (base) and the future architecture (goal).
Is it possible to somehow link the two (base and future) and generate a report about the differences?
    Thanks,
    Lonneke

    Hello Lonneke,
yes there are a lot of point within the BPA suite that can be used to express exactly what you are planning. E.g. you can maintain installation status related attributes for application system types etc.
So most of the EA related information should be stored in object and model attributes.
But the most important point when building up a "as is" and (like in most cases when it comes to EA modeling) many "to be" scenarios is that you set up your repository right. This will protect you from much additional work later on (e.g. for cleaning up bad structures).
    In general follow this structure:
    a) clearly separate the different points in time
    b) set up clear defined libraries for the static objects
    c) define the levels of the EA you need for your specific situation (business architecture, application architecture, information architecture and infrastructure architecture). Keep this levels separated!
There are a few reports provided that could be used to evaluate the differences. Take a closer look at the "Analysis" section within the reports folder of the BPA suite. There are some useful evaluations as well. But never the less you would also have to write some specific reports for your use case(es).
    Regards
    Dirk

  • Dynamic release strategy and static release strategy

    Hi,
What is the difference between dynamic release strategy and static release strategy.
What the customization setting required to activate dymanic and static release strategy.
    Thank you
    REgards,
    Yshu

    Dear Yshu,
What do you mean by dynamic and static release strategy. In SAP, we don'y have this term.
Please kindly give more explanation so we can help you.
We only have with classification and without classification.
Normally, release strategy without classification is used in R/2, and out of support in
R/3. However the functionality still available in case you want to use it.
You can not use Release without classification and Release with classification.
If there is an entry present in Release Group table (T16FG-FRGOT), only release with
    classification can be used.
If you are in R/3, then forget the release strategy without classification but just
use the release strategy with classification as it had more flexibility than the old
    system design.
    Thanks

  • PO and SchdAgreem Release Strategy at Item Level

    Hello!!
I have the request to setup a the release strategy for the PO and Schedule agreements at line item level....
as far I know for PurReqs is possible to do that... but for PO and SAs it is only at header level...
Do you know if is possible to do that in configuration??

    Hi,
Release strategy for PO & SA is only at Header level, since these documents are external purchase documents.
But, PR is internal purchase document and release strategy is possible at both item and header level.
i think, it is not possible to do release strategy at item level for PO & SA as you said,

  • Driver issue -packages created by model and os architecture

    hi
in my organization 3 architechure os is installed ,WIN 7 -X86 ,WIN7-64 ,WIN8X64 , I HAVE CREATED DRIVER PACKAGE FOR 3 ARCHICHECURES  FOR A MODEL LIKE
    LENOVA THINKPAD T430_WIN7X86
    LENOVA THINKPAD T430_WIN7X64
    LENOVA THINKPAD T430_WIN8X64
and I have added if statement as shown in screen shot ,I am getting error on task sequence ,complete driver task sequence fails ,same time  I use Lenovo model only in query it works but it pull randomly all architecture driver packages ,let say
I have selected win 7 x64 os ,but it pull all driver packages above mentioned instead of only LENOVA THINKPAD T430_WIN7X64 , I need  two conditions are met then only driver package should install ,how tis possible
    ankith

I understood correctly, but I guess you didn't understand my solution for your problem.
Like I said, if you configure your conditions correctly, it will only run the step that's configured to run. If your selection of W7 x64, W7 x86 or W8 x64 at the start of the task sequence is stored in a task sequence variable, use that as one condition
and use the WMI query of specific model for another condition.
You could even add folders so that all the OS versions for the drivers are separated, and apply your operating system filtering for each folder. For example W7 x64 -folder uses variable that determines W7 x64 is being deployed and under that folder are all
the W7 x64 driver steps with WMI query conditions for the specific model.

  • BDOC message flow and its architecture

    Hi Expert,
It can be a simple question but i have a doubt regarding the flow of messages using SAP CRM middleware.
    The scenario is like:
    1. Message flows from ECC to CRM through a BDoc. (It can be opposite way also)
    2. The BDoc fails in CRM due to some data issue.
    3. A BDoc message id is generated.
4.Now the data is corrected in ECC and initial load was triggered.
    5.The messages are flowing correctly.
    So my doubt is:
1.What will happen to the old BDoc?
    2. Do the initial or delta load processes the messages with new BDoc ID or through the old BDoc ID?
    3. If the messages are processed through new BDoc id, can the old BDocs be deleted?
Please help me understand this concepts of BDocs and please provide me to some study material to get more undertsanding of the BDOC message flow architecture.
    thanks,
    Vicky

    Hello Vicky,
i think I understand exactly what your confusion is all about.
1.What will happen to the old BDoc?
The old Bdoc will remain in error state until it is archived or set to processed state.
    2. Do the initial or delta load processes the messages with new BDoc ID or through the old BDoc ID?
It will be a separate BDoc with a new BDocId. If you get an Error in SMW01 this is beyond the queueing, so later Messages will not get queued behind your faulty bdoc. They will also not "update" your BDoc in any way. Later BDocs will Bypass a bdoc in error state and update your object in CRM if the error in data has been solved in ERP before. If the data error is not corrected, you will get a second failed bdoc.
    3. If the messages are processed through new BDoc id, can the old BDocs be deleted?
Best practise for the Bdoc with error would be to set it to processed state. That way there is no way that Bdoc can be processed afterwards. The BDoc will then be archived with the next run.
    Best regards,
    Lutz
