Athlon 64: Highest 3x00 CPU for K8T Neo?

For my MSI K8T Neo system (described below), what's the highest in the 3x00+ CPU series that works with my board (Socket 754)?

Cool! Thanks for the quick response. Guess what I meant was "What's the highest Socket 754 CPU in the 3x00 series"... LOL

Hi, i just got my k8T Neo (MS-6702) and can't figure out the best/most stable settings in the bios for my system yet. I am mainly using my computer for GAMES, so this is what i am talking about when i say "optimization"
I got an ATI 9700 Pro, an Athlon 64 3200+ and 2x512 mb of Kingston Value Ram (bank 1 and 2).
The main settings i really don't know how to set are:
    -Internal Cache
    -External Cache
    -System Bios Cacheable
    -C000, 32k Shadow
    -MPS Revision
    -AGP Fastwrite
    -AGP Aperture Size
I wish i could get rid of any instability problems, i had a few crashes so far. Yet, i would like to set my system to get the most of my hardware in terms of speed.
Thanks in advance for your help guys !

    internal cache-on
    external cache-on
    system bios-disabe
    c shadow stuff-disable
agp fastwrite on unless you have problems, you'll know fast
agp apperature size..depends on sys ram if over 512 best to atleast 128, if not 256
(official recomadation is 1/2 your system ram)
disable any onboard stuff you dont use like sound, sata controlers,
    quick boot enable. smart enable
logo disable, floppy drive seek disable,
i wouldnt mess with mps table version.
power management to s3 usb wake enable..power management agm-disable
suspend time-disable-...set wakeup events hit enter, choose kbc & or mouse.
    that should get you started.

  • PSU for K8T Neo-FIS2R

What model of PSU has its cooling fans which can be controlled from PWFAN1 and PWFAN2 on the K8T Neo-FIS2R motherboard?
    Kaz

Sorry but there is no real specific one out there that I have ever seen. Most of the Bios options you see have been available since forever with Via Chipsetted boards. However DOT is specific to MSI which is Dynamic Overclocking technolodies. DOT can automatically overclock your voard depending one what your doing. I recommend staying away from it as it can cause as many issues as anything in your rig. And then there is Cool and Quiet which is an AMD 64 Bit CPU specific option to downclock the multipliers for the CPU during Idle Times to save energy and keep the CPU cool. Again it is not really needed.
The rest of the stuff you can use google to find individually or by searching for Award Bios's or Via Chipset Bios settings.
These are way to much for any one person to post a complete guide to here as all the info is readily available elsewhere.

Do a floppy drive flash with the correct switches.  Go back to the last bios that worked properly or try Pinochio's bios which a lot of people like.  Liveupdate will mess up your bios.  So can winflash if you do not use it correctly.

After you have read about it, do this using the correct flash utilty file name and the correct  bios file name
"DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
    Good luck.

  • Ram choice for K8T Neo FISR2 Motherboard

Can anyone tell me if this particular model of ram is compatible with the k8t neo fisr2 motherboard?
    http://www.crucial.com/store/MPartspecs.Asp?mtbpoid=AC1B73A7A5CA7304&WSMD=MS%2D6702+%28K8T+Neo%2DFIS2R%29&WSPN=CT6464Z40B
according to crucial it is compatible with the mobo, but i don't see it on the msi vendor approved list for the mobo.  I did purchase it, however for the new computer that i am building, comp powers up fine, but no signal is getting to my monitor.  Do you think if the ram is not compatible and is not working, then the new machine won't boot properly, hence no signal to monitor?
i'm trying to rule out/in the memory ram as the culprit for my new comp's problems

Well first you have not posted your specs so it's a bit hard to determine if the problem could be somewhere else. Please add yoiur specs to your signature.
    Second I am assuming that you don't have any other RAM you can try so here are a couple things to check;
Put in a single stick of RAM and see if it comes up, if not then try another stick.
Check and see what is happening on the D-Bracket LED's.
Double check to see that both the 4 and 20 pin power connections are plugged into the Motherboard and see if your video card requires power through a molex connector. If so make sure it has a power Supply line plugged in.
Reset the Bios with the onboard jumper. Caution, make sure you remove power before you do that step. You may also have to remove the RAM when you reset.

  • Should I update BIOS for K8T Neo?

I recently rebuilt my system around my old K8T Neo Fis2r.  Just wondering if you guys think its worth my while to update to the last BIOS using Live Update.  I'm running the original BIOS right now.  I figure if it aint broke don't fix it, and I'm not trying to overclock or anything.  Does the most recent BIOS even offer any better overclocking then the original BIOS?  The K8T Neo is not much of an overclocking board anyway.

    dont recommend flashing in windows.
better to do it with a floppy but not from a floppy.
check what the latest bios fixes compared to the one you use now and make your decision after that but if it all works there is no reason to update.

  • Which BIOS shall I use for " K8T Neo -FSR"??

I bought  a MSI K8T Neo- FSR board yesterday. But when I looked at the MSI web site I haven't seen ...FSR board, I only see ...FS2R board instead. So which BIOS shall I download and flash? There is also no any explanation about FSR. My board carries the BIOS V1.1. On the other hand it writes this informatin on the board; " K8t Neo 6702 rev. 1.0"

...here's the product page...I found it the other day but I can't remember how   ...got lucky, I guess...
...BIOS version?..I've always used Live Update in Windows...just follow the directions to the letter...there are beta versions available in the forums...the current one is getting good reviews...

  • K8T Neo-F (ver. 2.0) Unknown CPU Problem!

    Hi all,
I've a really big problem with two mainboard K8T NEO-F (MS-6702 VER 2.0). I'm trying to build two pcs with these boards and two AMD Sempron64 2800+ Sock754.
The problem is that when I turn the system on, immediately after all post messages like SATA controller diagnose, Realtek network boot, checking NVRAM, I get this message:
    "Warning unknow CPU type"
    "System halted"
Then I can't even reboot pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL or getting into bios setup pressing DEL. The system is frozen and I can't reboot.
I've tried to flash the bios using the recovery feature (CTRL+HOME and floppy disk with bios inserted), it starts flashing and than when I get those four beeps, I rebooted and I get the "system halted" message again.
I saw that the latest bios for K8T NEO Series is NOT for version 2.0 like these two ones that I've got.
What can I do? Please someone help me...
    Regards,
    Paolo

    Thanks to everyone who replied...
    The mainboard is not K8T Neo-V it's K8T Neo-F v2.0 infact on the PCB it's exactly signed MS-6702 VER 2.0.
I really can't update the bios since I can't even boot up my system. The only way to flash the bios seems to be trying to find the correct bios for this mainboard and flash it through the bios recovery procedure (pressing CTRL+HOME during boot).
Otherwise I've to find some other old CPU that is being supported by this mainboard, but this seems quite incredible to me! In also from my local distributors, new sock754 CPU are just Sempron64 ...
Someone could help me finding a bios update for Sempron64 support for this mainboard?
    Regards,
    Paolo

  • K8T-Neo Ati 9600xt troubleshooting

Alright, I have a complication and need assistance.  I think I either have a new, but defective Ati Sapphire 9600xt video card or there is a compatibility issue with the K8T-Neo.  I have a system (specs to follow), that works perfect with an Ati 8500.  When I install a Ati 9600xt Sapphire board, the screen recieves a signal ("no signal received" message stops bouncing around as a screen saver) but the screen remains blank (monitor power button led stays yellow, doesn't turn green).  The hard drive led runs, but the computer doesn't boot, it just beeps approximately 8 times, goes quiet for a second or two, then just beeps.  No boot.  Blank Screen.  I've tried all the Bios.  All the drivers.  All the different devices unplugged.  Different voltage to the agp.  Different slots and single chip of the RAM.  Overclocked and normal settings.  Believe you me, I've read and done most of the recommendations from other questions/threads.  Still, nothing with the Sapphire ATI 9600xt, but perfect with the ATI 8500 (which I plan to put in to a computer built for my friend).
    Athlon 64 3000+ (excellent cooling)
MSI K8T-Neo (all bios/drivers up to date as of 12/14/2004)
    Corsair 1022MB DDR400 3200 RAM (2x512)
    WD 40mb IDE 7200rpm
    Toshiba CD-Rom/DVD 52x/16x
    Artec CDR/CDR-W 48x/48x/24x
    ATI 8500 (computer works perfect)
ATI 9600 (computer flat out doesn't boot)
    Power supply:
         450w
         (+5v=45a,+12v=16a,+3.3v=20a,sb+5v=2a,-5v=0.5a,-12v=0.5a)
Am I doing too much work, should I just return it and get a different brand, chip, style, etc.........of video card?

The most important component on these comps is the PSU, I run the Vid card you have, not a problem, but then I have the amps to do it. The PSU you have is overloaded , it will fail one day, if it blows and fries your rig, then replacement will be a lot more than $100. Why buy a superb sports car, and put a lawnmower engine in it, better with just the lawnmower, it will be more use to you.
This CPU contains the NB, and controls most things, the Mobo is less employed than with previous boards. These rigs run on +12v, the 3.3v and +5v, are not so important on here as on a Intel machine.  Your vid card will need about 6 amps of clean power to run well, the mobo and CPU need 12 amps, Fans, Disk Drives all need amps, as do PCI cards, Ram and just about everything on this rig - +12v.
25 amps will run your rig, over 30 amps much better, all the little niggles and freeses disappear. Plus it will run faster and sharper.  Buy a good PSU first, then add the rest
    cheers

  • Msi k8t neo fis2r problems part 3

sometimes when the computer is turned on it just turns the fans and leds on but doesnt boot up...
most of the time it loads up and i boot to the windows xp cd and i install the drivers for sata and then when it reaches the point of copying the files it will give me a bsod and say that there is a problem with the irql driver and then force me to shut the pc down..
sometimes it makes it past that and will begin to copy files onto the hard drive, like somehow the data is becoming corrupted..however it will start to say that the files cant copy randomly and it will allow me to retry..they will copy the 2nd time usually..i can keep hitting retry and it will usually go by..it gets to 30 something % and then crashes to bsod just giving me some random error..for some reason the files keep screwing up that go on the sata drive....I just replaced the old power supply that wasnt working with an antec true watt 430 watt power supply, so i know it isnt that..
i just cant figure out what the heck is going on..any help would be appreciated.my specs are
    "IRQ NOT EQUAL OR LESS"
    athlon 64 3000+ cpu
    msi k8t neo fis2r motherboard
    mushkin special cas 2.0 2-2-2-5 512 mb pc 3200
western digital 8mb cache 80 gb sata hard drive
sapphire radeon 9800 pro 128 mb 8x agp

fyi look an your cd sticker ity will show power, consumption, but they are way lower than you would think, hard drives, can be only 10 watts, less then some case lights , and fans, cd are  similar.. your video, is the biggy somewhere between 90~150 watts..yikes .next to the cpu..and the mobo can use 50 or so (not sure about new mobos)  not to mention the ram 1024 is @40 watts or so., dont forget about 25watts per pci card, not counting the sound card which can be double....
ergo the need for a big psu..
the combined total ratting on a psu is not the max number that the psu is rated, that is surge value.. so a 500 may only hold 400 sustained , and that will drop as the machine heats up, so in the end your 500 may onlyy pull 366 @50'c...

  • Booting "issues" with K8T Neo-FIS2R

Well hello everyone. First of all I want to say that my English isn't completely error-free and my problem might seem awkward because of my ways of expression.
I also want to say that i've read alot of threads and searched the forum for my problem.
For a couple of days ago I got all my parts for building my 64bit-system and I build her up. To my suprise it booted, with almost no errors. Although I could install Windows XP and use it completely, everytime I boot it (under the booting sequence) it says "Bios is not installed", although I can enter bios simply (like everyone else) just pushing the DEL-button.
But this isn't the only problem. When I enter PC Health Status it says that the cpu is running at whooping 62-65 degrees. When i have my hand around the cpu-cooler it doesn't even feel warm so I think it has something to do with my BIOS-version that i am running now (Yes, I've read that in much more threads)
Also I have problems using the Cool'n'Quiet technology. I have it supported in the BIOS and activated it although it will not work (maybe it has something to do with the bios?) With this i mean that i will not go underclocked (It's allways 2.2 GHz)
My final problem is that it sometimes takes the system 2 minutes to boot sometimes, it happend after i flashed the bios to 1.7 from 1.0
    Under these circumstances I've used 1.0 AND 1.7 BIOS-versions.
I've never overclocked the computer either.
    What could be wrong?
    I'm using 3200+ 2.2GHz Athlon 64 cpu.
    K8T Neo-FIS2R
    Radeon 9800pro
    Seagate 7200.7 200GB drive.
    380W Antec PSU.

2- Install the AMD athlon64 driver for XP
3- Set "minimal power savings" at windows xp energy options
I have installed the CoreCenter 1.6.8.0 (is the last version) utility, and I've set enable the CnQ in this application. You'll can see that the CPU velocity change "on demmand" and the CPU fan too.
Of course, I've the last VIA 4in1 drivers, 1.7 Bios ver. etc

This is my system, that I've been having random, intermittent instability and corruption problems on :P
    AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2400 MHz)

    SoundBlaster Live! Value
    HSP56 Micromodem
Win98 SE with unofficial SP 1.6.2
    DirectX 9.0c
    Old keyboad, PS/2 connection
Intellimouse Optical with USB connection (but plugged in with PS/2 adapter)
Western Digital 100 GB & 40 GB hard drivers
    NEC CD-ROM
Basically, Windows would crash randomly, Rar's would fail to unpack randomly, and games would die rapidly (within minutes). memtest86 did not show anything however Prime95 detected a hardware failure every time within a minute.
The solution? Do not use 1.8 bios! Use 1.4 bios instead!!
Even in 1.8 bios with the memory slowed down - 333 Mhz, 3 6 15 6 (the slowest) it still had problems. But with Auto settings in 1.4 BIOS, Prime95 test does not produce failures! And it has the same temperature.
Now I just need to track down all the corrupt files in my windows installation :(

It sure sounds like something in Win98se is not liking something in the 1.8 Bios or vice versa. As when I had Win98 crashes could happen and It was not a Secure OS either. I didn't bother to upgrade to 98se, I bypassed It and ME and upgraded to Windows 2000 when It came out instead, Now I use Windows XP Pro, And I have no problems(I use the NTFS file system too). Besides I'm not sure that Win98se is even fully supported on a 64bit cpu/motherboard, So I'd get an upgrade soon as possible. When 98se came out cpus were 16bit and 32bit, Not true 64bit cpus like Yours is.

  • K8T Neo-FSR SATA Limits?

I have an old PC with an AMD Athlon 64 2800+ processor and a K8T Neo-FSR with a VIA® VT8237 chipset. This board has two 1.5 Gb/s SATA connections so I decided to put these to use by turning this old PC into a file server (NAS). I bought some refurbished 250 GB drives for a RAID 1 setup from Newegg and plugged them in and the firmware did not detect them. I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version (1.9) and it still didn't detect the drives. It's my guess that there's a limit on how much that chipset can support. Does anyone know what it is? I've tried searching extensively for it, but can't find any info on any limitations as far as SATA.
For readers' simplicity, here's the URL for the info page: us.msi.com/product/mb/K8T_NeoFSR_FIS2R.html (copy and paste).
Please note that I have no interest in purchasing a new system as a replacement. I know this board is a decade old and well beyond its EOL, but it works and it is paid for, so please don't go there. Thanks!

Got news for you, that's a typo there.  * Should read 3 G. You apparently still don't understand the proper terminology.
Yes that's correct, SATA does not use jumpers for Master, Slave or Cable Select like PATA drives do.
