Athlon XP 2100+ Temperature question...
My Athlon XP 2100+ idles at around 126-130 degrees Farenheit and under a big load, gets up to around ~145.. I've never had any problems that seemed heat related.. I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ (with arctic silver) and have 2 fans sucking air out (and boy it comes warm) and 4 in the front blowing in, but i unplugged 2 of them cause it was too damn loud!
any suggestions? I've been taking the case panel behind the motherboard off to help keep it cool.. the case panel facing the cpu/motherboard has an exhaust fan on it...
Are these temps outta control? Anyone else got a 2100+? what temps do you get? What HSF do you use?

Heheh Thanks gfilitti.. I made the comment that the heatsink would make a nice bookmark too, that's a damn brick of copper! It is FAR better than the stock AMD Heatsink that came with my 2100+ which used to idle somewhere around 140 degrees and would get into the near 160's when i but some load on it (ripping a dvd, just to see what the temp would get to)...
I'm gonna looking into the Volcano 9 ( I do like the Thermaltake stuff) and i know that the CFM it pulls off the Heatsink is a great deal higher than the 7+, and it's only like 1db louder..
Thanks guys... If anyone else has some 2100+ temps or stories, please post them, as this is all great research.

Help me Overclock! :) KT3 Ultra-ARU & Athlon XP 2100+
Been trying some things out, and reading a LOT of stuff on overclocking, but still kind of confused by some of it. Wanted to see what you guys think I can do with the following:
MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ (Stock AMD Heatsink & Fan)
1.0 G (2 512 sticks) of RAM (Kingston ValueRAM) (With Thermaltake aluminum RAM cooler on one stick, with an attached fan that blows over both sticks.)
MSI Geforce FX 5200
Just wanted to see if anyone had any success with this particular combination. It will be cooled by fans, and this is the case I have: http://www.xoxide.com/xviper.html
It has fans blowing right over the AGP and PCI slots, as well as a fan on the front blowing over the hard drives and an exhaust fan on the back of the case.
Here's some pictures if you need them:Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 07-November-06, 01:38:17
you are welcome mate.
if CPU became instable increase CPU Vcore with one step.
get a copy of Orthos to check CPU stability:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=99013.0
set priority to 7, and 1st test (Small FFT's) when error appear there increase CPU Vcore with one step and retest.
I'll keep that in mind. Got the FSB at 155 now - gona start moving slower.
Got another question if you don't mind - You said to force the memory clock to 133 - i'm not sure how to do that. It seems locked. Here's my options for the SDRAM stuff in the Bios:
Configure DRAM Frequency: SPD or USER
SDRAM Frequency: HCLK/HCLK+33/SPD
CAS# Latency: 2/2.5
Row Precharge Time: 2T/3T
RAS Pulse Width: 5t/6t
RAS to CAS Delay: 2t/3t
SDRAM Bank Interleave: Disabled/2-way/4-way
SDRAM Burst Length: 4QW/8QW
SDRAM IT Command: enabled/Disabled
Fast Command: Normal/Fast/Ultra
Now, when Configure DRAM Frequency is set to user, I can mod everything in that menu - however as soon as the FSB is set to 166 the SDRAM Frequency can only be set to HCLK - the other options disappear. But, even at 165 it can be set to HCLK, HCLK+33 or SPD.
Not sure what to do there. And, are they any other options you would reccomend changing in that menu? -
How do I overclock my Athlon XP 2100 T-Bred?
Here is my system:
MSI KT4V-L (MS-6712) Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2100 T-Bred CPU (currently 266 FSB, 1.7 ghz)
Two 256MB DDR-Ram Sticks PC2100 Kingston ValueRam
1. I hear I can overclock my CPU to 2.1 ghz. How do I do this?
2. Are there any heat concerns?
3. Will my memory sticks have to be replaced or adjusted?Hi,
another thread, no :D this time ...
Netherscourge: your memory will definitely be a limiting factor ...
As for the "Overclocking Partner": manufacturers are more or less forced to advertise in such a way nowadays (and mostly the board will not be the first component to give in, also); I seriously doubt however that MSI will take responsibility for fried CPUs or charred RAM )

Well, so I downloaded and installed Temperature Monitor and iMac Fan Control - mainly for observational purposes and not for toying around with the fan speeds and I've got some questions. Mind you, I haven't tampered at all with the fan speed settings, just installed Fan Control. Here are my readings (while browsing the internet with Safari and doing a chat via iChat):
Fan Speeds:
CPU fan (desired) 1300 RPM / (current) 1530 RPM
HD fan (desired) 2100 RPM / (current) 2099 RPM
DVD fan (desired) 1300 / 1298 RPM
Temperatures:
CPU Heatsink: 92°F
Internal HD: 108°F
Internal DVD: 95°F
GPU Heatsink: 107°F
Are these, under the circumstances, normal readings?
Thanks in advance for your replies.Your welcome and no problem. I would say only the Apple engineers can tell you why the fans are set to those speeds however my best guess is the obvious they found those speeds the closest to keeping the temps at an optimum operating temperature. I found when I'm doing graphics intensive work my machine heats up but quickly cools down when I'm done.

Hi, I Have a keithley 2100 6 1/2 Digit Multimeter and I need to mesure temperature with it but I don't know how to do that, I could only found how to mesure DCV ACV resistence etc but I didn't found a way to put my PT-100 alpha beta and delta configurations for my pt-100 and to read temperatures.
A little help please?
thanks

There is a configuration VI: '..\Keithley 2100 Series - lv2012\Public\Configure\Configure Temperature.vi' which allows to set Alpha, Beta & Delta constants.
Make sure after downloading the drivers you keep it in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2012\instr.lib' folder as shown below...

Dv7 turbo boost and temperature question
I have the core i7 2630QM @ 2.0 ghz with turbo boost up to 2.9 ghz. My question is, even while running prime95 (all 8 threads at 100% usage), cpu-z says the processor only gets up to 2.6 ghz. Now its not really a big deal because even at that speed almost nothing can max it out, im just curious why its not getting all the way up there.
And now its time to discuss temperature...even after just 15 mins of prime95, all 4 cores of my cpu were up to 80 degrees celcius and the motherboard sensor said 82...that's rather high isnt it? While im gaming all temps hover at around 70 or 75 degrees...is that near the danger zone? I appreciate any answers! thankskrrmit
I don't think there is any way to turn these off. The processor will use hyperthreading and powerboost automatically depending on the load on the CPU and whether it needs hyperthreading and powerboost. Powerboost is used for heavy graphics if I'm not mistaken.

MBP i7 istat temperature question
My very first post!
anyways, quick question....i recently installed istat on my mbp and the temperature section lists 2 memory controllers, one is at ~36 C at the other at ~94 C. Why are there two memory controllers and why is there such a big temperature difference?? this is under light workload btwreinstalled istat and now only showing one "memory controller" at "normal" temp.
perhaps the high temp. at ~94c caused the istat to freeze.
anyone else ever have this problem? -
MPB temperature questions...
just 2 quick questions. Ive searched the forums a bit, and while Ive found hints, i cant quite answer my own question.
First, my macbook pro 2.6ghz (Merom proc) can run as hot as 165-170 degrees Fahrenheit while surfing the web/streaming videos. This seems a bit hot to me... I realize these computers tend to run pretty warm, and as i slow down net usage and the computer idles more, the temp drops as low as 120 F, but usually hovers (with casual use) between 140-150 F. I've heard of some macbook pros running much MUCH cooler, as low as 100 F. These might be older models though, with considerably slower processors.
Second, how does apple handle heat-related issues? Ive heard of people replacing the thermal paste (I'm VERY reluctant to do this myself)... is this the sort of thing apple maintenance would do? Or will they just send me on my way and tell me its normal.
I don't use my laptop ON my lap ever, but i worry about the machine overheating, and the kind of damage this can do to the processor or the internal circuitry... at what temp should i REALLY begin to worry that my processor is pushing it too far...
Thanks

Actually, the older MacBook Pros ran hotter - which was when people got really exercised about replacing thermal paste and the like. My first MacBook Pro, which was the first generation ran substantially hotter than my current beast. The first generation was Core Duo rather than Core 2 Duo - hence the temperature problems. When they made the transition to Core 2 Duo the angst about temperatures kind of died down.
As for MacBook Pros running at 100F - I'd be amazed. Desktop processors might, but that is not the way these things are designed to work. Maybe that reading is an external case reading rather than a core reading. But marginally above room temperature would be remarkable for a laptop processor. With the first generation people were happy to get their core temperatures down to 60C ~ 140F. I'd consider that bog standard for my current MBP - a 2.4GHz Santa Rosa (forget what name people give to the processor because I don't care about Meroms, Penryns, Flagelates, Bornswindles or Fliggelhoofers - just that it works.) When you tax the processor it should jump to about 80C ~ 175F. Some websites can do that because they need all those ads to run smooth animation endlessly.
You should worry if you burn yourself or the computer doesn't function properly - otherwise trust that Apple hires thermal engineers that are competent at their jobs and forget about it. -
Neo2 Platinum Temperature questions
hi,
2 questions i have to ask..
its useful to have them answered by somebody who knows somehting about a program called motherboard monitor...
question subject 1: Motherboard monitor shows 3 Temperature sensors. what are the correct settings for the sensors?
does anyone know of where there is a diagram of the locations of these sensors are situated on the board?
question subject 2: is 46-51'c (room temp 27'c) a good tempterature for a 3500+ A64 to be running at?
and if anyone else has an Akasa EVO 22 on their 3500+ a64 what are your temperatures? (please include room temperature, and typical RPM of fan)Quote from: Kolian on 14-June-05, 07:01:35
I think I've some problems with temperature monitoring on my MoBo. For example, when I had ASUS A8V, my СPU (3000+) was running @2385MHz (1,6V) and max temperature with box cooler was 61'C (load). Now I've changed MoBo to MSI K8N Neo2, CPU is @2205MHz (1,52V) and its temperature with the same cooler is about 70'C ...
From what I understand different boards have their temp probes in slightly different locations, which will affect indicated temps.
I've also heard that the Neo2 reports temps 3-4C higher than actual (I'm not real sure about that though, if anybody has that scoop - lemme know).
Regardless, your temps are way high & I'd look into a more robust H/S than the boxed cooler. 70C is within meltdown range, 60C is toasty - 50's under load would be preferable. -
Ge70 2PE-689XES Temperature Question
hello!
I bought a week ago the Ge70 2PE apache pro , and i was playing games at my house . But I am kinda worried about the temperature of the laptop!
When i am playing Warframe on ultra , it goest till 85 degrees.
Same happen with Tera on medium settings and 1600x900p
When I am playing League Of Legends or Heroes of the Storm the temperature of the CPU is around 75 degrees.
So: My question is:
Are those temperatures normal? I read in some other posts (with similar laptops models ) that the temperature is around 65-70 degrees... .
I am worried. Help! I am from Almeria , Spain. We are around 30ºC . I think the laptop is so hot because that. Could be?
I am sorry for my English. I am not English native! Dont be rude pleaseQuote from: RX-8 on 20-May-15, 12:46:36
Just don't directly blow the vent, otherwise it will cause the resistance of the heat air flow.
Like the following scenario:
Fan air --> <-- Heat air direction from the vent
This will cause resistance, but if you blow the hot air from the side, it's helpful to take away the heat.

Thanks you a lot for the advices I will put the fan right now in the correct position! xD -
IMac operating temperature question
Hi. I am thinking of getting a new iMac.
I see on the iMac technical specifications webpage :
http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html#specs
...that the iMac is required to be in a 50 degree Farenheit or warmer environment. "Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)"
So what if the temperature goes down to 35 degrees Farenheit in a low heat overnight situation? Is this a real cause for concern?
Thanks.
ThomasThe Dell XPS One has these specs:
"Temperature:
Operating 10° to 35°C (50° to 95°F)
Storage –40° to 65°C (–40° to 149°F)
Relative humidity 20% to 80% (noncondensing)"
(I had to download the "Dell™ XPS One™ Owner’s Manual" to find them. Annoying.)
The important word is "noncondensing". If your machine gets cold and the water vapor inside it condenses, then you have liquid water covering certain parts. This is never good. -
This has puzzled me for a couple of years, hesitant to ask because it might be borderline ridiculous but since it is the same story in CS6 and new Bridge/Camera Raw, I just have to ask. Every thing I have seen (books, tutorials, videos) shows the temperature (under Basic and just beneath White Temperature) as a 4 digit number. Mine is just -100 to 100. No 4 digits. I am not so silly that I don't understand that I get a full range of temperatures available (it is all relative. I get that). But it is making me crazy that everyone else on the planet appears to have 4 digits and I don't. Does anyone know why this is so for me? Not quite up there with how they get the caramel in the Caramilk Bar but truly an itch I am dying to scratch.
The behavior you are describing is what happens when you open JPEG images in ACR. To get the full range of temperature values you have to be working on raw images.

If your problem is just a freeze:
1. Do you have the "Put drives to sleep on idle" set in Energy Preferences? If so, turn it off.
2. How much RAM do you have installed? Open Activity Monitor to see how it is being used.
About OS X Memory Management and Usage
Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory & determine how much RAM is used
Understanding top output in the Terminal
The amount of available RAM for applications is the sum of Free RAM and Inactive RAM. This will change as applications are opened and closed or change from active to inactive status. The Swap figure represents an estimate of the total amount of swap space required for VM if used, but does not necessarily indicate the actual size of the existing swap file. If you are really in need of more RAM that would be indicated by how frequently the system uses VM. If you open the Terminal and run the top command at the prompt you will find information reported on Pageins () and Pageouts (). Pageouts () is the important figure. If the value in the parentheses is 0 (zero) then OS X is not making instantaneous use of VM which means you have adequate physical RAM for the system with the applications you have loaded. If the figure in parentheses is running positive and your hard drive is constantly being used (thrashing) then you need more physical RAM.
Adding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently. It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster. What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM dependent. It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
3. Do you have plenty of free space on your hard drive - at least 15-20 GBs? -
Airport Express temperature question
I am wondering what the highest operating temperature can be for the airport express? I have a situation where the temperature will get to 120 degrees and although the tech specs stipulate 95 degrees there is usually an engineering factor/range that will accomodate for some degree of variation. I would like to ensure that is operates reliably for the short and long term under the higher temperature.
Maybe there is a range, but I do believe the technical specs stipulate the "maximum" safe operating temperature. That nominal temperature is 95º F. Storage temperature can be as high as 140º F.
If you operate it at 120º F you must assume the risk that it will fail earlier than its expected life. And, most likely any damage during the warranty period would not be covered because it was operated outside of its stated maximum operating temperature.
