Athlon xp 2600+ Problems

:help:Specs.
                  MSI K7N2 Delta-L
                  AMD Athlon XP +2600
                  1 gigDDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • ECC • 6ns • 2.5V •64mx2
                  altec lansing 2.1 50w
                  Windows XP Pro
                  MSI 4200Ti 128mb AGP 8X
                  intergrated sound
                  300w PSU
I recently bought the k7n2 delta mb and a new processor athlon xp +2600.
But when i have the cmos configured for default settings, it reads my processor normal "+2600"; boots up fine and goes into windows, but when i try to run something anything that makes the led tell me it's thinking. It goes fine but but after a few seconds of thinking i get the blue screen. so i thought is was the cmos, i tinkered around with it and changed the fsb from 166 to 133. Since I did that nothing has gone wrong, but my processor is reading at a +2000 athlon xp. I dont know if i have to adjust the voltage's of something change the cpu ratio etc.....
I can't figure it out PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!! I WANT MY +2600 back.

junglederrick,
It sounds like either your Power Supply not supplying the juice and/or 1 gig 2700 DDR Ram not being nForce Approved. (Please list the specs on both the RAM and the Power Supply.)
Take Care,
Richard
P.S. Which OS are you using?

  • Problem with Athlon XP 2600+ and KT3 Ultra2

    My specs:
    MSI KT3 Ultra2 w/raid
    Athlon XP 2600+ 333fsb
    512 mb samsung ram 266mhz
    2x 80 gig maxtors
    Antec True 480watt
    Retail HSF
    My problem:
When I put in the cpu, it only read it as being 1250 mhz
    What I did:
I looked all over the msi website for information on how to fix this.  I hadn't updated my bios, so I upgraded to AMI bios v5.6 because I've heard mixed things on 5.7.  It updated fine, so I went into the bios and changed my FSB to 166.  At 166, my computer won't even boot to windows, if I put it back down to 133 or 100 it will work fine, otherwise it just restarts before the windows XP loading screen.  MY cpu runs 40~44 C
I get blue screens of death if I actually get into windows at all.  Outside of windows it seems to run fine if I am at a dos prompt or whatnot.
Anyone think they can help me with this problem?  Seems many people have been having some problems with this.

    nm, I'm an idiot  :D
    guess I need new ram?

  • MSI KT4V-L & Athlon XP 2600+ Barton

    Hi all,
I just upgraded my Athlon XP 2000+ to a Athlon XP 2600+ Barton and i have noticed a problem.
After putting the new CPU on the mobo and a new HS&Fan *Volcano 7+* then flashign the bios, i have had 2 weird reboots.
I had a error once when playing the UT2004 Demo on the 2000+ but i also get errors every now and again witht he 2600+ but thats no big problem its a beta demo so you might expect it but the last error i got said some info as the others did then when i hit ok the pc rebooted.
Also earlyer i went away from the pc then came back and it had rebooted itself again im not sure if this was a power cut or somethin so i am just checking if there any any known problems with the MSI KT4V-L and the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Barton.
    System specs are as follows:
    Windows XP /SP1
    Latest Drivers
    AMD Athlon XP 2600+
    MSI KT4V-L
NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 265MB
    1GB DDR 400Mhz
    550W PSU

    AMD Athlon XP 2600+
    MSI KT4V-L
NVIDIA Geforce FX 5900 Ultra 265MB
    1GB DDR 400Mhz
    550W PSU
This is what you list for your system. You also admitted the PSU is a Q-Tec, and have been shown the warning about Q-Tec being very low quality.
    1. The 2600 is going to use more power than the 2000.
    2. The GeForce FX 5900 uses a lot of power.
    3. 1GD Ram uses a lot of power.
You have not listed how many drives you have in your system, but there must be at least 2 (1 HDD & 1 CD) those also use power.
The error message is pointing to a video driver as the culprit, but I am willing to bet it is actually caused from the video card's inability to operate due to low power.
I would try borrowing a better quality PSU, and testing with that, and chances are the problem will disappear.

  • MSI K7T Turbo2 + AMD Athlon XP 2600+

I have downloaded lastest BIOS for MSI K7T Turbo2 but i haven't able to run CPU at full speed (133x16=2128 MHz). And there's no multipler greater than 15 available...
currenlty i'm using 145xdefault (12,5) = 1812,5 MHz... has anyone solved this problem? CPU = AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (333)

    Oh bugger!
After posting this, I continued scanning and found the answer - and coming back here, I now understand BD51's answer.  Didn't sink in first time round!
Anyway, I have apparently purchased the 333fsb version, blissfully unaware that was a 266 version, and that THAT is the one I SHOULD have bought.
Ah well, that'll learn me to check the spec's more closely in future.
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

  • KT4AV 2600+ problem.

I just bought a few items for upgrade and it all seems to run, only trouble is i cant get my cpu upto full speed.
    Athlon XP 2600+ (barton)
    KT4AV-L  Mobo
    1Gb pc2100 ram (2x 256 Crucial Pc2100 + 512 Kingston Pc2100)
    Geforce fx 5600 Xt 256mb.
    450 Q PSU
    +3.3v : 30A
    +5v    : 25A
    +12v  : 15A
The mobo sets the cpu to XP 2000+ (1.53ghz) but any attempts to go higher then 133 FSB just stops the PC booting and im forced to CMOS reset and start again.
It just reboots and hangs at startup with blank screen, Diagnostics Led say memory check.
I can only imagine the memory isnt happy with the fsb but i cant even get my 2600+ to run at 133 x 15 it still crashes.
I kinda assumed PC2100 would run with a Barton if im wrong guess ill be happy at 1.5ghz til i can replace the ram.
    Any ideas are gratefully recieved.
( I did a few forum searches and found nothing similar sorry if its a repost)

    thanks for a reply guys
(Deleted last post Managed to get it working
I spent the day doing some reading and random searching and got it sorted, just had to manaually set most of the auto stuff.  I think on auto it just gets confused and goes a bit Ape.
Got a few facts from various places (forums + AMD website) but it was your help that got me started (thinking).
Had to set the memory Bus to 266mhz.  (PC2100)
    Increase ram voltage to 2.7v
    CPU volts to 1.65v
    and clock FSB to 166mhz.
multiplier auto  (Barton auto locked at 11.5)
I know its not ideal conditions but aslong as it runs happy for a few months im chuffed.
    Singing happily at 1.92ghz now

i checked my PSU its not Q-tec.  its a QTechnology made by QuietPC. They have a warning about Q-tec on their website.

  • O/cing athlon xp 2600+ (barton)

I am planning on o/cing my athlon xp 2600+ but O.o if i select 14/15x multiplier in bios i get 4/5 O.o btw im still using a stock cooler so untill i get my coolmaster jet 7 it doesnt really matter though ^_^ btw y does my pc stop booting after i raise fsb over 179   well i think i fixed my blue screen erros by raising core to 1.675V but its not reallly stable its changing between 1.7 and 1.675 so should i worrie about that or not?? thx for the help already.
CPU temp while browsing and playing songs 50C in corecenter so -3 =47C
sys temp 35-36C stock cooler O.o 1 sidepanel fan

hi im new here so take it easy on me ok?
i was also thinking to OC my CPU but i dont have a clue where to start.
    my setup:
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ ( Barton core 333fsb ) cooler: zalman 6000 copper
    KT6 Delta LSR
    Twinmos DDR 512mb X1 pc400
    powersupply: Enermax model:EG365P-VE
    +3.3v = 32A
    +5v = 32A
    +12v = 26A
    GraphicCard: Nvidia GeForce4 TI 4200 AGP 8X 128mb DDR
    my HDD is a Maxtor 80GB 8mb cache S-ATA 150, including 1X 80GB maxtor 2mb cache ATA 133 and a Maxtor 40GB 2mb cache ATA 133 ( if this matter at all )
and im running this all on WinXP home Edition.
ok, im using this centrecore feature and it tells me that my CPU runs at 100Mhz FSB and the multiplier is 11.5.
    my Vcore voltage is 1.66.
my 3.3 voltage is skipping between 3.38 ~3.41.
    my 5 voltage is 5.05
and my 12 voltage is 11.76
now i dont really want to push my CPU to the limit but it would be nice that i could ACTUALLY use the 2600+ instead of 1150.
if i can clock my CPU to 2000 safely and runs stable then its ok, that would be worth the money i invested in the CPU.
    thanx in advance

  • K7T Turbo2 and Athlon XP 2600 / 333 BIOS settings ?

    Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with this combo ?
    I've tried to install the processor but I can't achieve 2600 Mhz...only 1600 Mhz !
    Any ideas ?
    ---> MSI K7T Turbo2 (latest BIOS)
---> AMD Athlon XP 2600+ FSB 333 BOX
Jumper J17 (i think) is out.
    Thanks,
    m@ndr@ke

Unfortunately Bogdan2003 is right, your board only supports a 266MHz FSB.  The XP 2600 doesn't run at 2600MHz, it comes in two flavours one runs at 2083MHz which is the 333FSB version and one at 2133MHz which is the 266FSB version, the later being the one your board will support.

  • Athlon xp 2600+ (166mhz) on kt3-ultra2

    AthlonXP 2800+ 166 12.5 OK
    AthlonXP 3000+ 166 13 OK
COuld some one tell me if the 2600+ also works with this mobo??

Thermal Grease Use Voids AMD Warranty
    Quote
For permanent installation AMD only recommends using phase change material with the heatsink/fan. No thermal grease is recommended for anything other than temporary evaluation purposes. And the only thermal grease recommended for that is Shin Etsu G 749. Artic Silver is made up of a matrix with conductive particles. There is the possibility of creating electrical shorts on the package. Any failed processor used w/ Artic Silver or any other thermal grease other than Shin Estu G 749 would be subject to warranty voiding. The concerns with other thermal greases are due to thermal pumpout causing overheating with on off cycling of the PC over time. The above information assumes you are referring to use with Athlon. For Opteron Shin Etsu G 749 also is the only thermal grease recommended for permanent installation. Again the concern is due to pumpout with thermal cycling.

In addition to your memory your PSU is weak your 3.3V should be 28A-35A, 5V should be 25A-30A, 12V should be 18A
combined voltage 0n 3.3 & 5 should be at least 200W. Antec & Enermax 400W+ are good choices.

  • Help! amd athlon xp 2600

hello,i have a kt2 combo-L mainboard.. and a amd athlon xp 2600, but it`s been called xp 2000! Why? i can only set the fsb to 133.. dosent my mainboard suport the cpu?

Use the pinmod to force the processor use a specified FSB (or multiplier
    pinmod guide;  http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html
Use the socket view and the small "hair" of a stripped computer molex wire or similar to short circuit the required pins on the socket.

  • K7T Turbo-R (6330 v3) & Athlon XP 1800 Problem

My current system is a K7T Turbo-R that I've had for a couple of years now.  During this time, I've used an Athlon T-Bird 1.33GHz processor without any issues - very stable (I can probably count on one hand the number of lock-ups).  The power supply is a 300W Antec.
I decided to upgrade the CPU.  I checked the CPU support status and found that the highest I could use with this board is an Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino, which is what I purchased (code on the core is AX1800DMT3C).
After removing the TBird and installing the XP (along with a new CPU cooler), the system won't post at all, and all 4 LEDs are red.   :O
I reinstalled the TBird (along with the same new cooler) and all is fine again.  Figuring I had simply received a bum CPU, I tested the same XP 1800 on another system (a Soltek PurpleRay) and found that the CPU was fine.
Note: The BIOS is at v3.6 and J17 is open.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

This reply is for Mustang (a bit late maybe  )
The description of your problem indicates one or more failing capacitors on your motherboard. Check out this link for some example pictures of what that looks like:
    http://www.careyholzman.com/caps/thumbnails.html
The reason i'm thinking about this is that i replaced 6 dead capacitors on my own K7T turbo last weekend. 4 of the 4700uF/6.3V ones had died (around the CPU socket), and both of the 2700uF/6.3V ones near the AGP slot. My system was showing the EXACT same symptom you are having. It would not boot after powering on with the power button, but a reset helped (this is at 1000 MHz, at 1333 MHz resetting did not help). This also explains why your old processor works fine, but the new one doesnt. Your PSU/power regulator combo is able to provide a stable enough voltage to the old processor with it's low power consumption. But with the new more power-hungy processor those big capacitors (which help stabilizing the voltage supplied to the processor) are missed :/
Apparently a Taiwanese capacitor producer supplied a large number of faulty capacitors to motherboard producers like msi, asus, abit, etc. More info in here: (and lots of other sites too)
    http://www.timcousins.com.au/capacitorfailures.htm
Hope this is indeed your problem, and that you can fix it

  • K7T Turbo2 does not select the correct speed for Athlon XP 2600+

I’ve tried many different combinations of multipliers and FSB, nothing works.
The Bios is AW 3.6 which is the latest and greatest.
    At boot-up I get processor unknown @ 1533
According to the specs at MSI this MB should handle AMD Athlon 2600+
I’ve email MSI but so far haven’t received any help.
    What am I missing?
    Win XP Pro SP1
    768 mb SDRAM 133
    K7t Turbo2 MS-6330

Thanks Wonkanoby, I bet you're right. I just bought a new MB & RAM, SOG,  I didn't need to mess with things, my system was runnig just fine. Now I'm $240 in the hole.

  • K7t Turbo2 and an AMD Athlon XP 2600+

I recently flashed the BIOS on my K7t Turbo2 board to the 3.6 version which supports AMD Athlon XP processors up to 2600+.  However, after I installed the new cpu, set the core voltage to 1.65, the multiplier to 11.5 and the DCM value to 166 the computer would not boot.  Instead I received a simple "Beep" then two to three seconds later, another "Beep."  This continues to no avail and it takes almost ten "hard reboots" which is killing my hard disks to even get back into the BIOS configuration, wherein I modified the DCM settings to 133 instead of 166.  Now the computer boots but continues to tell me:
    Unknown Processor at 1533mhz
When I did get it to run at 1910mhz (notice 1910, not 1917 as it should be), it also said Unknown Processor.  Then, on one of the three ocassions I was actually able to boot the computer at the higher clock speed, none of my drives appeared.  On the second ocassion, the Linux boot process froze and on the third, Windows XP wouldn't boot.  Now, if anyone has any suggestions as to what BIOS settings I can try, or even resetting my BIOS to a previous version, then trying to reflash it, that would be great....  If, however, this is more of an issue with an MSI BIOS patch, please release another version that works.   Thanks much!
    -Adam

Go with the Tbred 2400+ bud, Thats what i have at the mo in my KT3 Ultra 2C, and with my old MSI ti4200 with 128mb, it kept up with a K7N2 Delta ILSR which is running a Barton 2600+ and an MSI FX5600XT with 256mb (that rig only beats me on the extra test in 2001se and 2003 that the FX card covers).
Cant wait for my K7N2 Delta ILSR to arrive to go with my Ti4600.
Should happily blow the Barton rig away

  • ATI 2600 Problems

I run CS3 (Mostly Photoshop Illustrator and Indesign) with Strata Pro 5.5 and I will get what I call, "the triangles of death!" They show up and turn my computer into a kaleidoscope of colors and triangles. This is a huge problem for me and an even more of a disappointment because this is supposed to be a "Pro" model I can't work with my computer always screwing up! Is there any solution to this? And yes I have done all the firmware updates and downloads.

    Hello,
I'm new to this discussion forum and haven't figured out how to create new topics (or questions), so I figured I'd just post my problems here. This subject seems appropriate.
I have problems with my my ATI HD 2600 XT on my Mac Pro due to some other problems (I will not go there just now, this is my main concern for now).
The problem is with the 10.5.6 drivers, which I replaced when I reinstalled leopard graphics update with pacifist. (shouldn't have done that in the first place). I replaced them with the old drivers from the graphics update ofcouse, and now my system profiler shows me that QE and CI are disabled:
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600
    Type: Display
    Bus: PCIe
    Slot: Slot-1

    Core Image: Software
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
    Rotation: Supported
I wonder how will I get the working drivers back and have my ATI card working again?
Things are kinda hard when you can't even use iChat or other software that requires QE/CI enabled.
All help appreciated. Thanks in advance!
