Athlon XP 3000+ and MSI KT4Ultra problem!!!

I recently bought an Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333 and I installed it on my old main board a KT4 Ultra bios 1.4.
The problem is that the processor is not detected correctly.
The multiplier is detected as only 10.5 and if I set the FSB to 166 the system shuts down without any working at random intervals.
If I set the FSB to 133 the computer works.
Can someone help me?

Please compare the numbers printed on the cpu:
AXDA3000DKV4D would be 333MHz
AXDA3000DKV4E would be 400MHz
Quote
The CPU temperature is around 45-50 degrees
At fsb133? So at fsb166 you could expect temps > 60°C.
Furthermore there can be hotspots on the die if the surface isn't covered complete with a thin film of thermal grease. This hotspots cannot be recognized by the temp diode but causes the cpu to shut down.

    Hey !!!
I se many people with the simillar problem...
Our customers are getting wery angry because their computers doesn't work.
The problem first aquired with the Maxtor 120 and 80gb SATA hdd:s
We have mounted many computers and about 60% of the computers have the same problem with SATA hdds...
Allmost every computer also had MSI KT6V or DELTA
We tried every possible bios uppdate, mobo drivers, SATA drivers etc.
Does anyone have any explanasion to this problem???
After many defective Maxtor hdd:s we tried Samsiung 120Gb SATA hdd:s....same problem...
We have been in contact with MSI. Maxtor and Samsung customer services, but they had no solution
If someone has any usefull tips You can contact me at [email protected]

  • BFG 7800GS OC and MSI 6702E problem, no video signal after post

Okay this problem has me stumped and the techs at BFG are thinking there is a conflict problem with my mobo and this card.
    Heres the case:
I got 1 - BFG 7800GS/OC and I installed it in my MSI 6702E (K8T Neo2 F/FIR). The system runs its POST fine and it gets to the OS selection screen. Right after that (where it should load windows) the screen goes black and the screen acts like its looking for a signal on its digital or analog feeds (a small window appears on my screen indicating signal on which port and for me its on the digital).
This is what I've tried so far:
    1)  I unistalled NVIDA drivers
    2)  Tried booting to safe mode
    3)  I bought an Antec SmartPower 2.0 PSU 500W (see http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=26500 for specs)
    4) repeated steps 1 and 2 with new PSU
    5) Updated to 9.3 BIOS
    6) Confirmed VIA drivers version is latest (5.10a)
    7) Got another BFG7800GS OC and repeated steps 1 and 2
    8) Bought another PSU its a BFG 650W (see http://www.bfgtech.com/power_supply_650W.html for specs)
    9) repeated steps 1 and 2 with 1st and 2nd 7800GS
I have tested the cards in another AGP system and the cards work perfectly. I've talked to the BFG tech support and they feel their could be a conflict with the mobo, but I'm at a loss to find any info on that in these foums.
Note that both PSUs have 12v rails that are rated combined >20 Amps
    My system Specs:
    Athalong 64 3200+
    K8T Neo2 F/FIR
    2 - 512 MB Kingston DDR 400
    2 - 256 MB DDR 400
    1 - Seagate 200GB HDD
    1 - WD 80 GB HDD
    1 - TDK DVD +/- RW
    SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer
PNY 6800 - soft modded to GT with extra Vertex Shader enbled

I can't boot into safe mode, normal mode, vga mode. The computer only POSTs and then gives me the OS selection, which I then choose and thats it.... black screen. No sound, no video then eventually my screen goes into power saving mode. I don't even get the windows logo screen.
My previous system worked great minus the declineing game performances. I'm simply replacing the softmodded PNY 6800 to this new BFG 7800 GS. I know the video card working is not the issue since I had it working perfectly in another PC. So no this is not a new build.
Yeah so the deal on those 2- 256 MB DDR 400 ram sticks is that there is no visable brand name. There is a sticker on it indicating its stats and a little logo of some company I don't recognize. The RAM sticks themselves have a silver colored heat spreader, but I don't think that has anything to do with the situation. The RAM in this computer is top notch and its been stable for over a year.
I'm really at a loss here on what the problem might be, but I have to imagine there is some issue going on with the AGP bus. I've tried messing with the BIOS settings and setting fast writes to off, AGP to 4x, aperature to 256 mb then back down to 32 mb. All those settings result in the same symptoms.
Man this is really perplexing since it seems others have this same board wih this card running fine. Since I can't seem to find anyone with a similar issue.

  • Live Update and MSI download problems

While doing some updating to my system I have encountered some problems with Live Update 5 as well as the downloads from the MSI support site for my P67A-GD65(B3) mobo.
LU5 is incorrectly determining some driver/file versions for things and it is not actually updating these things when I run the download and install option. LU5 tells me I have Intel Management Engine driver version 7.1.50.1172, but the version I actually have on version 7.1.21.1134 on my system. LU5 also incorrectly says I have Intel INF version 9.2.0.1021 when I have 9.3.0.1021.
When I run download and install from LU5 it does not update the Intel ME driver to version 1.1.52.1176. On the MSI support site under driver downloads for my mobo/Win 7 64-bit the driver version listed for the current Intel ME driver is listed as 7.1.2.1176 MSI Support: P67A-GD65(B3) downloads, but when I run the setup exe from this download it installs driver version 7.1.21.1134.
Anyone experience anything like this or have any suggestions or solutions...or should I contact MSI directly about this?

Recommend not to ever use LU5 for drivers or especially a BIOS update. Get the files manually from the Website and install them. Contact MSI if you want and discuss it with them.

  • Athlon XP 3000+ running at only 1750

FAQ suggests i set my FBS to 166 mhz, i did now it runs at 1750 instead of 1050.
somehow it just wont go to 3000.
it detects that the CPU is a athlon XP 3000+, and it apears to run like this (faster then my 1.8 ghz) but this is prolly jsut due to the good vid card. (windows and bios indicate its only 1750)
i previously forgot the 12v plug in the motherboard, but thats fixed now (not needed anyway).
i got a k7n2 Delta-L motherboard with all the req1uired parts ALL of them are supported.

lol yes, amd processor, are named in concordance with intel proccessors, a 3000xp is equal to a 3.0ghz p4, my 2400 for instance oced a little out performs many 3ghz machines ,
right now P4 have advantage in pureclock speed, 3.2ghz trumps 2.3ghz period. But does an advantage in clock speed translate into an advantage in terms of efficiency, measued by the number of instructions processed by the CPU oer cycle? the P4's  has between a 20-40 stage execution pipeline which allows intel to jack up the clock speeds, but the amd xp processor has a 10stage execution pipeline, that prevents amd from substantially increasing processor speed. but numerous benchmarks demonstrate the athlons xp's architecture is more efficent then the P4's

  • MSI KT4Ultra FIS2R Lan problem

I got an MSI KT4Ultra FIS2R, with an optional GB Ethernet (Broadcom 5xxx).
When I enter the integrated peripherals menu in the BIOS, the LAN device is not shown, and when Windows starts, the LAN device is not shown in the Device manager window.
It is worked fine ~3 weeks before, and it simply stops, and hides...
Why? I bought a GB Lan card, and it is works fine, but it takes a lot of money, and the onboard lan must works, doesn't it?
I flashed the BIOS, with older/newer one, but it doesn't solve my problem.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS?
Something that should be done after every BIOS flash.

  • [VIA] MSI-7021 (KT6V-LSR) and Sempron 2500 problem.

I bought a AMD Sempron 2500 1.75ghz and a MSI-7021 KTV6-LSR, I connected the Sempron to the motherboard and powered up, well I got power to the fans, but no activity and no sounds. I plugged in the LED diagnostic kit that came with the motherboard and all 4 red lights are on, according to the manual this means either a fault with the CPU or it aint seated properly. So I reset the CPU and the same 4 red LED's came on again.  I thought it could be a PSU supply problem, so I disconnected all the hard drives and the DVD-ROM drives and still the same problem occured.  So I decided to test my old Athlon 1.2gig CPU in the motherboard and the same problem occured again, no activity and all 4 red LEDS on the diagnostic.  I also disconnected the 2 DDR memory chips.
I dont have one of those 4 pin power connectors, do I need on of these.
I tested the new Sempron in my old PC motherboard, an ASUS A7V-E and it powered up without any problems, so obviously it cannot be the new Sempron CPU that is fauly.
Can someone point me in the right direction.  I hope I have supplied enough information.

I would need the 4 pin even for a old Athlon Socket A CPU too.  Why is this exactly, does the KTV6 use more watts than a normal older mobo.
You need the 4-pin because it is part of the mainboard's design power.  That 4-pin connector exclusively supplies your processor.  No 4-pin lead = no power to the processor.
And you are better off with the Antec than the Tagan.  Tom's Hardware, based in Germany where Tagan is prevalent, has had nothing but failures from Tagan power supplies.  Most recently THG chose a Tagan for their Intel and AMD Stress Test - the Tagan died.  To be fair, the Tagan was a pre-production test unit, but the authors did make a point of saying this was not the first Tagan that has died in their lab.

  • Problem with MSI Board and MSI Geforce 4 with Windows XP

    I have a MSI 845E Max(MS-6566E)
                  MSI Geforce 4 - 420
                  Celeron 1.7 gig
                  Soundblaster Live
                  2 Network Cards
                  and the usual stuff.
I have loaded Windows 98 on my system and it works fine. But then I load Windows XP on and the system starts rebooting. After it reboots my video resets itself and I have to load it back in. I will then reboot and sometimes it will work, sometimes it will not. I try playing a game or even searching the net for awhile, but out of the blue the system will give a very quick blue screen and reboot. And of course when it boots up the video is reset. I loaded all the drivers I could find on MSI's website and used every video driver made by Nvidia and MSI. If I do a Windows XP update to my system the computer will not even boot up. it will just keep rebooting when it is trying to bring up the login screen.  Anyone else run into this with Windows XP?

My system sometime freezes. Why ???

  • K7N2 and msi gforce 4mx 440 problem

Well, I have an MSI K7N2 Motherboard (with Nforce 2 chipset), Athon XP 2400+, and
MSI StarForce GForce 4 MX 440 64mb DDR, it works ok, but there is something that keeps
my attention, when the machine starts, no Legend about the VGA CARD is shown, like
GeForce 4 MX 400 Card, or something like that, all the cards I know do that, but this not,
I`ve changed my card (other =), but I still have the same problem, can anybody help me?????

In my evperience, the ATI cards do not seem to show a bios flash screen, I've been told by a system builder that it has something to do with the delay sending a signal to the monitor???, anyways, my old system running a Radeon 8500 never showed a vga bios screen, and the same card did not show one on my K7N2-Delta board either.  But 3 different nVidia cards all show a VGA bios upon boot (gf4 Ti4200, gf2 mx400, and gf2 ultra).  Either way, as long as your card is working, don't wory about it.

  • MX440 problem and MSI support

I am experiencing problems with a new MX440 and cannot resolve it.   I attempted to submit a request via the MSI website, but it never returns a response once the information is submitted.  I sent an email to the support account - no response.  I posted in another thread where other people experienced a similar problem (MSI Clock).  The only resolution (in that thread) was to install Win98.
What do I do?  I think my only option is to return the card and NEVER buy another MSI product for myself or a customer.   Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Problems:
    1. Most games will not play properly, or will only play for a few minutes.  Including the games provided with the card.  "No One Lives Forever" flickers really bad and locks up (or blue screens).  Similar behavior with Giants, Diablo II, et al.
    2. The "MS Information" and "MSI Clock" Display Properties crash the control panel application with the following error:  "An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel File c:\winnt\system32\desk.cpl".  I am not able to view or modify these settings.
    3. Live Update Fails with a VBIOS.DLL failure.
    4. 3D Turbo crashes the IE 5.5 window when started.
I upgraded the bios on both the MB and video card. I installed the latest drivers for the video card.  I've tried every combination of scan rate, screen resolution and 16/32 bit.  I prayed.
It's only the 3d apps or apps that are video intensive that have a problem.   All other applications work great.
    My Configuration:
    ASUS P4S333 Motherboard Rev 1.xx (Award Medallion V6.0 BIOS - revision 1006C - 4/19/2002)
    300W power supply
    Intel P4 1.7GHz

    Hi ,
It seems I have the same problem than you; in addition I also have a ASUS P4S333 motherboard; running XP Pro.
Well my problem is really with 3D games, all of them, even those distributed with the graphic card. I am trying to get help from MSI and ASUS on that problem; before going back to the shop for getting a replacement card to test it will change something or getting a new card.
what I have tried is NOT installing MSI drivers since it adds some option in the display menu and constantly crash it when they are selected (MSI info and MSI clock)., got driver directly from MSI from 27.xx to 30.xx, try them all with "no one lives forever" and Medal of Honor with always the same results....freezing screen after 5-30 minutes of games.
I was wondering of a fan problem, that the GPU will get too hot , and you will get the typical freezing bug; however, if the image remains frozen (almost, because it is still working, but it is really slowwwwwwwwwww.), the sound is still playing properly, so the CPU is OK; it seems to be hardware GPU problem....
    Did you solve your problem??
if yes what was the solution
Thanks in advance for your answer
    Eric

  • KT4V and KT4Ultra problems: IRQ, Password, TV Tuner

    Heya!
I just purchaced new KT4V board and now I'm experiencing quite a few troubles. Before that I had K7T266a Pro2 board with which I was very setisfied and all the features that I will mention here that does not work with KT4 but on older MSI board worked without a problem.
    1st problem:
I'm unable to force IRQ for PCI slots. I manualy select which IRQ will PCI slot take but that is not accepted. IRQs are allways assigned automaticaly.
    2nd problem:
Wake Up with specific key, password and mouse is not working. I also updated to new bios for that board and that does not help to solve the issue
    3rd problem:
ATI TV Wonder is not presenting any picture. Neither under Windows 98SE, neither under Windows XP. There is a black picture when I start ATI TV Wonder but I can hear a sound. (My friend also has this issue on KT4 Ultra board)
Changing the board back to K7T266a Pro2. All is working well!
Does any of you have some of this issues with KT4 boards? Help is appreciated!
    Ciao, Davor.

    Maesus!
First thank you for envestigating at MSI and confirmation that Wake Up with password was removed. Yes I know that S3 means. It means wake up from the sleep mode. But I think that also there is not working as It is should. I tried to set the Wake up password and i put my computer to sleep mode but I could wake it up prassing any key or moving mouse (typing a password did not worked) I had an option Wake up with password in my bios!
So what I tried already. First I will have to explain that I used Windows 98SE (old installation - Installation that I already used with K7T266a Pro2) and Windows XP SP1 (fresh installation) on second partition.
    1. I did a fresh install of the Windows XP on a second partition and only Graphics drivers for Radeon 8500 and ATI TV Tuner.
    2. Did not tried that yet
    3. Will have to play a bit with this. I tried only two values 64 and 128Mb
    4. I had via 4in1 4.43 under Windows 98se; under Windows XP SP1 I did not load any new Via 4in1 drivers
Will have to try with this latecy patch at my friend.
    5. I disabled APIC (but will try that once again to be sure)
    6. I did tried with minimal hardware installation. Only Radeon 8500 and ATI TV Tuner (I tried different slots)
    7.  Did not tried with different PSU. My friend has more powerful PSU than I and experiencing same problem. I think PSU is not an issue coz KT4 board was very stable in all other applications (especialy games, 3DMark2001) no crashes, runing great.
    8. Tried with Windows 98SE and Windows XP. I tried also with ATI Multimedia Center 7.1 and 7.6 beta. Neither worked. Just a black picture, channels are found, I can hear the sound
    9. I tried with different mother board. Im back with MSI K7T266a Pro2 and ATI TV Wonder PCI is working wonderful. I can assing IRQs manualy and I can wake up my machine with password - I like this feature.
    10. I put msg also to Rage3D forum asking users if anyone has this sort of configuration MSI K4T and ATI TV Tuner. I found out that direct support is sometimes less efficent. So I like to ask directly from the first hand - users.
Will have to try all that your new propositions at my friend house who has KT4 Ultra and ATI TV Tuner PCI (I already sold my KT4V and I'm back at K7T266a Pro2 till I discover all the solutions for the problems.
    Tnx for now Maesus!
