  • K8T Neo 2 + Athlon 64 3000+ = freezing system

    Hi all.
I have MSI K8T Neo 2 with Amd Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 in it.
My specs are in signature... Ram's are in dimm1(green) and
dimm3(purple) = dual chanell. My PSU is 300W(is that enough?).
I have stock bios(have no idea what version).
Problem is, that when I click on an .avi file, system freeze.
Same thing when I try to install some software, it is installing and when
it's finalizing the installation, system freeze. Same thing when I run some pages
in Internet Explorer, system freeze. I tried once to run dxdiag, system freeze.
I even tried to download the latest bios via live update, but guess what, system
    froze.
I am so mad, I invested in socket 939 for dual chanell, 1000Mhz FSB and FX
processors support and I even can run a single game...
    Please help.

  • KT4V turns power off at 55°C with Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333

    Hi there,
I installed a brand new Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333 this week on my MSI KT4V, with a ICE SP-A03 CPU fan. It runs at 48°C when idle, and when CPU load increases with high consumption softwares it goes slowly to 55°C then ... Powers off abruptely !
This behaviour is steady and reproducible using BurnK7.exe. The threshold is always the same : 55°C.
This temperature range is definitely normal for AXP3000+. So far, I did not find any Bios parameter or mainboard switch able to leverage this threshold.
How can I fix this problem ?
    Thanks for help,
    Additional info:
    motherboard : MSI KT4V (chipset KT400)
    Amibios latest level : MS-6712 V1.C
Processor Athlon XP Barton 3000+ FSB 333
    CPU fan : ICE SP-A03
    No overclocking

When changing processor you should clear CMOS.
    When seating it one should:
    - power off and unplug
    - take mobo out
    - remove the old heat sink and processor
    - after placing the processor in...
    - make a "virtual" seating of the heat sink, so it'll fit the socket good, with heel
    - then remove the protective plastic in this case, or put on thermal grease, and place the heat sink.
Time taken when seating the processor, is time saved for the future. Do it good better than quick. The paste wont dry up, and if it doesn't get dirty there is no rush.

  • Athlon XP 3000+ and MSI KT4Ultra problem!!!

I recently bought an Athlon XP 3000+ FSB333 and I installed it on my old main board a KT4 Ultra bios 1.4.
The problem is that the processor is not detected correctly.
The multiplier is detected as only 10.5 and if I set the FSB to 166 the system shuts down without any working at random intervals.
If I set the FSB to 133 the computer works.
    Can someone help me?

Please compare the numbers printed on the cpu:
    AXDA3000DKV4D would be 333MHz
    AXDA3000DKV4E would be 400MHz
    Quote
The CPU temperature is around 45-50 degrees
At fsb133? So at fsb166 you could expect temps > 60°C.
Furthermore there can be hotspots on the die if the surface isn't covered complete with a thin film of thermal grease. This hotspots cannot be recognized by the temp diode but causes the cpu to shut down.

  • Athlon XP 3000+ running at only 1750

FAQ suggests i set my FBS to 166 mhz, i did now it runs at 1750 instead of 1050.
somehow it just wont go to 3000.
it detects that the CPU is a athlon XP 3000+, and it apears to run like this (faster then my 1.8 ghz) but this is prolly jsut due to the good vid card. (windows and bios indicate its only 1750)
i previously forgot the 12v plug in the motherboard, but thats fixed now (not needed anyway).
i got a k7n2 Delta-L motherboard with all the req1uired parts ALL of them are supported.

lol yes, amd processor, are named in concordance with intel proccessors, a 3000xp is equal to a 3.0ghz p4, my 2400 for instance oced a little out performs many 3ghz machines ,
right now P4 have advantage in pureclock speed, 3.2ghz trumps 2.3ghz period. But does an advantage in clock speed translate into an advantage in terms of efficiency, measued by the number of instructions processed by the CPU oer cycle? the P4's  has between a 20-40 stage execution pipeline which allows intel to jack up the clock speeds, but the amd xp processor has a 10stage execution pipeline, that prevents amd from substantially increasing processor speed. but numerous benchmarks demonstrate the athlons xp's architecture is more efficent then the P4's

  • MSI KT4V doesn't recognize Athlon XP 3000+

    Hi guys,
I have replaced my AthlonXP 1800+ with new XP 3000+ (333 MHz FSB), but the system shows only 2200+. I've updated the BIOS to 1.C, set the FSB to 166 MHz, set the multiplier to 'auto', but that didn't help. The weird thing is, that Everest shows that the CPU type is 'Athlon XP, 1750 MHz (10.5x167)'. Even when I've set the multiplier to '12.5/13x' the cpu was still recognized as 2200+. I've tried to use earlier version of the BIOS (1.8) and then the CPU was recognized as Athlon 2400+
    Any ideas?

Did you select memory speed to speed or auto ?  What are CPU/ System temps. idle/stressed in Bios ?
I've set 'Timing' to SPD and 'Clock' to Auto. CPU temp was 41 dg. C. when i've checked.

10.5 is the multiplier the 400 fsb xp 3000 uses
I've set '12,5x/13x' in BIOS. Is it possible that I have a wrong (ie 400 MHz) CPU? How can I check that?

  • MSI KT6V + Athlon xp 3000

The Mobo (latest bios) didn't detect my cpu's speed by default. So I set the FSB to 166 like it should be. However, after a while of operation the whole system freezes. I've replaced the Ram and PSU (old PSU was underpowered) in hope that solved the problem. It didn't.
When I set the FSB to anything lower than 166 (running at 165 at the moment) the machine runs perfectly fine.
I have no idea whats going on. I'm thinking about getting another motherboard. Help me out here.

When you say FSB is at 165,where you see that?In Core Center?Mine runs at 165x13 which gives it the 3000+ and that is correct. It runs at 2168mhz  on those settings.I tried to run the 200FSB but this processor wont take it with the PC3200 ram for some reason.I also had to run the ram at 333 instead of 400 or I would get lock ups and BSOD.In the BIOS there is a setting for dynamic overclocking.Do you have that enabled? If so what is it set on?Private,Sargent,General etc....?I can set mine to Sargent and it will run max at 172FSB x 13 multiplier which makes it run at 2233mhz.
I fought this combo for a long time to get it right.2 of the causes of lock ups and BSOD was the memory and the IDE cable configuration. If I ran 1 stick(512m PC3200)it would run at 400.If I installed 2 sticks,I would get BSOD and or hard locks running at 400.I had to put it to 333 to straightned that out.On the IDE cables,I had to purchase 36inch ATA 100/133 round cables to get my hardrives and cd roms tp configure properly.Due to this board having the IDE connectors on the mobo down at the bottom, the stock type cables are too short to have them hooked the proper way.I put the cd roms(primary slave/secondary slave)in the middle cable connector and the hardrives(primary master/secondary master)on the ends. This pc rocks now.Takes about 20 sec to boot and click on the net.

  • K8MM ILSR + Athlon 64 3000 : wong temperature after restart

    Hello,
    I have just installed a K8MM ILSR.
Starting with a cold system, CPU temperature is around 40°C after one hour of normal use.
If I restart the computer, the temperature is immediately at  50°C and stay stable.
        1 - which temp is the right one (40 or 50°C) ?
2 - the BIOS release is 3.4, is this problem solved in the new release 3.7?
    Thanks for your help

Are you using any USB devices? Might sound strange, but on some systems USB devices affect the temp sensors in some strange way. When I power on my USB HDD, my temp shoots up a few degrees Celsius. Switching off the drive doesn't help, temps go back to normal after a reboot. Same thing on three different systems (all MSI boards)...

Not the first time you say that. Do you want me to find when I proved you wrong the last time?
This is not the thread I was thinking about but it is from the horse's mouth:
MSI have responded thus: (by the way I think MSI tech support are 110%, whoever they are, bless their cotton socks!)
    Dear Akis,
To protect the mainboard and CPU,bios engineer add a Throttle technology, which limite the critical temperature as 65C,that's meaning if your cpu temperature is over 65C,Throttle technology will downclock your cpu ratio to 5 to reduce cpu heat for more stable pc performance.
As you know high performace may cause pc unstable and even damage hardware on mainboard.
But for user's request, bios enginner could increase critical temperature,if you would like to increase critical temperature for your cpu,you could flash A7369NCI.201 bios for your mainboard, whose critical temperature is 80C.That means when your cpu temperature rise at 80C or above, cpu ratio will getdown to 5.
You could download bios file and bios flash utility from below link:
    XXXXXXXX/7369
Then you could refer to the attached word file to flash bios.
After flashing bios, then enter bios to load optimized default->save&exit.
Anyway,we suggest you to change high-quality cpu fan to cool your cpu.

I replaced the RAM of 256MB x2(PC3200) with that of 1GB x2(PC3200) then the cpu core clock speed went down from 1800MHz to 1000MHz.  The RAM pair is running at 200MHz 3-3-3-8. There does not seems to be any option in the BIOS configuration to manually adjust the cpu multiplier.  Any suggestion is appreciated.
