[Athlon64] Ram helpppp PLEASE

help me guys please
I upgraded last week from an athlon xp 1800 ti4200 with 768 ddr ram (256x3)
I'm now on an msi k8tneo2 f with an amd64 3000 and only using 2x256 since it wont work with three. But today I got
another stick of 256 in the mail to upgrade me to one gig since I can't afford new ram right now really. Now the
problem is once I add the other old stick which I know works fine and the new stick for a total of four the pc
doesn't have a display and makes 3 loud beeps. The new stick works fine on its own inside the pc and will only work
with 1 other stick in single channel mode, 3 beeps still in dual channel
Any ideas on how to get all 4 to work together? Thakns =\

Ok update, the single sided 256 is going back to zipzoomfly since it's useless. Now I found someone who's going to send me 512 pc2100 double sided, 8 chips on each side.
The 3 sticks I have still are pc2100 doubled sided 8 on each side also but only 256.. Will it boot with 3x256 1x512 or will i have to rip out 2 of the 256s and run 1x256 and 1x512 single channel mode? Thanks =)

  • [Athlon64] Ram and USB problems!

Hi to all, this is my first post so be kind and patient.
    My system:
    (Hardware) K8T Neo2-F (VIA K8T800pro & VT8237), Athlon64 3200+ 939, 2x 256mb Kingston KVR400X64C3AK2 (Nanya) ram sticks, Maxtor DM 120mb SATA drive connected to SATA1, Liteon DVD connected to IDE2, Liteon 350 power supply.
    (Software & Drivers) Win-XPpro SP2, VIA Hyperion 4in1v456v, VIA RAID OM74 v4.12, VIA USB2 V260-L.
    I’ve got 2 problems:
Firstly, the board will not post unless I stick the 2 ram modules in DIMM 1 (Green) and DIMM 2 (Green) and ONLY reads 256mb while there is 512mb in there.
It also operates in single channel mode and not duel channel mode.
I checked the 2 ram stick with Cpu-z and it registered 512mb in single channel mode.
I tried putting 1x256mb in DIMM 2 (Green) and 1x256mb in DIMM 4 (Purple) as the manual says but NO GO!
I tried putting 1x256mb in DIMM 1 (Green) and 1x256mb in DIMM 3 (Purple) but also NO GO!
Secondly, when ever I try to plug in any USB device it slows the computer to a disabling pass especially when starting up window.
    Can any one help please?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks Tiresmoke,
I updated the Bios to v3.3 and every thing is much better now. The board reads 512mb; one 256mb in DIMM1 (Green) and another in DIMM3 (Purple), and in duel channel too.
The only problem I have now, is that after XP loads there is about 20 secs of darkness and I have to move the mouse a little before I can enter in to XP's desktop, otherwise it restarts and goes into F8 (the safe mode screen)!!
That will have to do right now untill I find a solution for the moving mouse thing!
    Thanks again.

    Any help please?

Hello Sorry here are the links to my PSU and RAM!

I got these numbers of the ram itself so i don't know which is the model number and the serial number.
And the voltage of the ram is at default. 1.5 i think
I did try and set the voltage to 1.8 and put my 8gb ram in, it booted up to windows and i managed to put 2 sticks of ram in then about 10 minutes later it went to blue screen again and said  dumping physical memory to disc
I done a error check of the ram and it came up with no errors.

  • Help me explain the need for RAM? Please???

Hi, I work on a G5 in my new job as a 'Mac operator' (I'm in pre-press). At first I thought this has to be one of the original G5's that had issues, because it is pretty slow for a G5. So I decided to check the profiler and see just what my little Mac is made of. I must say my jaw hit the floor and my two co-workers were probably thinking I had just had a stroke.
    Without further ado, the specs:
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 900 MHz
Now you see why I need help? I have to wait for Quark to draw palettes ALL the time. I'm usually running InDesign, Quark, Illustrator, Photoshop, Suitcase, Thunderbird, Acrobat (the real one), and connected to FTP. Switching apps takes forever. I told my supervisor that it needed more RAM and she said, 'we can burn some stuff off and give you more room if you want'. So that's what I'm dealing with here. Anyone explain it for someone like that??? PLEASE? I've now dubbed the G5 "Smalls" - as in, "You're killing me, Smalls!"
Thanks so much for any help that leads to Smalls and I getting more RAM.
    12" PB 867, G4 Sawtooth D450, Indigo iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

You don't have Universal Binaries yet. That hurts a lot. And the programs you use love memory, and Rosetta needs a GB too.
Your Mac would run some of those programs faster than Windows box IF you were to use Boot Camp, install Windows XP, and the windows versions.
There are some sites with benchmarks of programs and comparing MacBook Pro vs others.
    www.hardmac.com
    www.barefeats.com
    www.xlr8yourmac.com
512MB of memory is minimum of what OS X requires. Most users found 1.5GB to be the 'sweet spot' for general purpose.
CS2 gets along fine with its own 3.5GB, and best with 7-8GB of memory - as OS X uses memory cache first before needing to use scratch.
You can show them how many swap files there are. just do a Finder Go To (command shift g)
    /private/var/vm/
that would be one way. Monitor real and virtual in Top and Activity Monitor.
    Monitor disk usage.
    Ask for a 150GB Raptor!
Quark is coming along with a new UB version. CS3 is still about 9 months plus away.
You really really need a G5 Dual or Quad Core, with support for more drives and 8-16GB RAM.
there is no reason NOT to max out the RAM in your system!

  • Restart Error message after installing additional RAM. PLEASE HELP.

I have a Powerbook G4, 1.33 GHz processor, running 10.3.9. I just recently upgraded my RAM to 1GB, from 256MB. After installing the RAM I have started to encounter problems, where applications will automatically shut down, and also I am receiving a message that cover the entire screen, and states that I must restart the system by holding the power button down, when this appears nothing is functional, I can only power off. I have insured the RAM was installed correctly. I followed all proper procedures when installing. Does this mean the RAM is bad, or something else? Please help!!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Our Powerbooks are sensitive souls when it comes to RAM, due to the Apple architecture and how power is throttled on the memory bus. While memory can meet the Apple specs, typically cheaper RAM can fail with the symptoms you're seeing. Recommend using Crucial, Kingston (not their value ram memory, though), or Samsung. Crucial guarantees their memory will work when chosen from the memory selector on their web site.
It is possible you've just got some bad memory and could get a replacement, however, if the brand is unknown, you may want to return it and obtain one of the brands above.

  • I'm having big problems with my K72N-Delta-L and Apacer ram! Please help!

Well, on almost every boot, the system hangs, starts beeping wildly, and my LEDs tell me that the system is in "early memory detection" .... What now? I have APACER 512mb ddr(266mhz) ... I just can't understand what's going on here... I've tried almost everything! could someone please help out?
    Thanks
    -M

Acording to Msi test report that this ram is not certified.  But this may not be the problem.  Have you check to see if the ram is seated properly, Also provide the amps on each rails, this will be stated on the psu cover, and the power size of the psu.
I know these boards are power eaters.

  • Upgraded MacBook Pro 5,1 to Lion - Address Book/RAM Question - PLEASE HELP!

So, I upgraded to Lion. Flawless.
Except, when I was trying to set up iCloud, I had Address Book open and decided to select the "Look for Duplicates" function to try to clear some of the double entries in my Address Book.
The process took over an hour.
    I had Fusion running.
After an hour, I got an error message that said I have run out of disk space. It prompted me to force quit some applications.
I have 4 GB of RAM and 400 GB free on a 750 GB Hard Drive.
What caused this? Is it serious? Any advice?
I am trying to run it again, but it is taking forever.
    Please help!

I finally solved the problem by myself.
For anyone reading this thread and having similar issues, I quickly describe how I did it:
Basically, I changed totally nothing on either Soft- or Hardware side.
But what I did was disassemble my MBP, remove one of those 2 memory chips, un- and replugged the SSD, turned the system on with just one memory chip, let it run for a while (did some stress tests on the SSD that ususally lead to massive problems) and everything worked smooth.
At first I thought the one memory I removed was bad, but to my surprise the system continued to work stable after I put it in again.
Since 6 days my MBP runs smooth without any troubles like spinning wheels or whatsoever.
I've read many threads from other people having similiar issues with this configuration, coming up with a lot of ideas and workarounds.
Although this seems to be weird, I hope that it helps some of you facing the same weird behaviour.

  • Late 2009 Mini with 10.6 and 8GB RAM crashes, please advise ?!

    Hi
I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM and an Intel X25-M 160GB SSD. Running 10.6 fully updated and installed from scratch.
I have been getting out of the blue crashes while the system is most of the times idle. Can it be the 8GB Ram? The SSD runs latest firmware.
This is the log from the last crash which happened a little ago. Can anyone help please?

The Mini came with 1GB Samsung which I've upgraded to 2 x 2GB Samsung. Then after a few months I bought the 2 x 4GB OCZ which initially was ok, but after a few months the system would crash out of nowhere. So I wiped off the OS and reinstalled 10.6 After a few days my first crash appeared, which is where the logs on my first post come from.
I will keep my 4GB Samsung RAM for a few weeks and if no errors appear then it was most probably because of the RAM. I believe there is some incompatibility between the Mini and some memory chips as the memory itself come out clean from Memtest86 and has lifetime warranty as well.

  • Ram advice please!

    Hi,
I’m new to this forum but I would appreciate if u guys could give me some advice.
    I have a K8N SLI Platinum and at the moment I run 1x 512 of Kingston Hyperx 533 memory @ 400MHz.
I keep getting messages like system run out of memory or something… while playing BF2 and Anarchy Online.
I think it’s time to get some extra memory but I need some advice.
With £100 budget I can get:
512MB Kingston HyperX 533 (don’t know if it will match my current module tho)
    or
1G (2x 512 matched pair) of Branded memory like Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000 for example,
     or
    2G (2x 1G) of generic PC3200 ram CL2.5. (can’t guarantee a matched pair)
And here is where I need help!
I would like to achieve a compromise between performance/stability but the later is my main concern.
What do you think will work better for me, mainly for gaming purposes ?
    1- 2G (2x1G not matched) @ 200?
    2- 1G (2x512 matched) @ 233?
    3- 1G (2x512 not matched) @ 250?
4-  Does it make a big difference if I run @ 250 instead of 200 FSB?
    Thanks in advance.

For games like Battlefield 2 that are major memory hogs, I think the extra gig of RAM would be more beneficial ... though I haven't tested the two side-by-side  so I'm not sure.
Of course, if it's generic low quality RAM, you might have a problem
Timming help a little but I opted to 2GB of cheap vs 1GB of fast ram. I run a lot of programs and this helps, games like BF2 run sweet with 2GB. I've tested with 1GB faster ram vs 2GB (2GB wins) When LAN partying I can take out 1GB if some are running 512 (happens, just getting it back makes happy but not them)
Cheapo generic "NO NAME" ram often is not fully tested or made well with lack of support in most cases (what out for RMA central). That why I've used Crucial for years, good products/support and I've never had to send any sticks back.

  • Hard Drive and RAM Advice please...

I'm looking to expand my computer by adding more RAM and more hard drive space but unfortunately I haven't the slightest clue on what I should buy. I've never bought any kind of internal hardware before. I have an external but I'd like another internal drive since I have the slot space.
I'm a video and film enthusiast who shoots weddings, music videos and short films. I currently use Final Cut Studio, After Effects CS3, PS, and Shake. So as you can see, I have a fully loaded desktop in need of some serious power. It runs pretty good now, although when I get towards the end of a project it tends to crunch up and slow down due to all of the rendering and large file sizes being tossed around. So what should I get? Here are my hardware specs:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac7,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 2.5 GB
    Bus Speed: 900 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.1.4f0

    Hi-
For your internal hard drive, a good, fast second drive for scratch files would help.
In the 7200RPM 500GB range, the Western Digital WD6400AAKS is by far the leader in speed. Very quiet and cool as well.
For a bit larger capacity, the WD7500AAKS is an excellent drive. Also cool and quiet.
If you want to go to a full 1TB drive, the Hitachi 7K1000 series is very fast, with the Samsung Spinpoint F1 also being an excellent performer.
As for the memory, the sweet spot seems to be 4GB. Memory is still cheap, so adding memory is a good, economical idea. For quality, guaranteed, Mac compatible memory, see OWC.
You can watch installation videos on how to install your memory and hard drives. Easy stuff.

  • Having trouble with Kingston 4gb RAM. Please help!

So I ordered Kingston 4GB PC2-5300 667/533 MHz Dual Kit for my Macbook and I'm having so much trouble installing it. I can't get BOTH 2GB sticks to work at the same time, it will ONLY let me use ONE 2GB stick at a time in either slot. It works when I have BOTH ORIGINAL memory sticks. If I try ONE new Kingston RAM + 1 OLD 512 mb RAM, it doesn't work either. I've tried almost every combination, and the only thing that works is:
2 slots with 2 sticks of OLD original RAM 512 MB
    OR
1 slot with 1 stick of NEW 2GB kingston RAM (either slot, but only one stick)
Has anyone had this problem?! I have no idea what to do...
    Thanks!!!

OH so it can only take 2 GB RAM in the first place.. oh DARN! Thanks for clarifying though!!
Also here is my hardware info:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook1,1
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MB11.0061.B03
    SMC Version: 1.4f12

  • Helpppp please. ASAP

pod stuck on recovery mode and locked with passcode and won't restore.

If you use another computer, then you have to press 'No' when it says 'Erase and copy library'. If you want, (if you have your library on your hard drive) go into iPod updater and click 'Restore', will erase all data, then sync with iTunes and everything SHOULD be back to normal.

  • IMac G5. Logic Pro freezes. Not enough RAM? Please Help

Hello everyone. So, here are my iMac G5's current details:
    Mac OSX version 10.4.11
    Processor 1.9
Memory 1.5 GB (my computer ram space maxes out at 2.5 GB)
I recently added a gig to my computer, because Logic requested that it needs at least 1024 GB to run the software succesfully. I started out with only a pre-existing 512 MB, but instead of buying 512 MBs (to equal 1024), I bought a whole gig. So, now I have 1.5GB.
In Logic Pro...when I try and record more than 1 track, it tells me that it "overloads". More importantly, when I'm running a video within Logic, my entire computer freezes.
My question is this: Is this because I don't have enough RAM? I seriously need for this problem to be fixed, because I write music for film...deadlines deadlines deadlines.
Thank You for any and all your help!

    Hello explorer,
Okay, download this:http://www.eskimo.com/~pristine/diag.html#menumeters and install it. They are your cockpit instruments.
Secondly: do you have airport running? Turn it off. Spotlight? turn it off. Dashboard? Turn it off. Also: open Activity monitor to see what app's are running in the background. And what about the video codec? is that running smoothly?
Your setup is, performancewise, almost equal to mine (yours is ±7 % faster), and it takes some improv to keep things running; bottom spec is the term. And I don't even use video functionality...
In the long run you should really consider an Intel Imac/Macbook/ - pro or Mac pro. Even the slowest intel Imac is ±2.5 times faster then what you and I have...
    regards, Erik.
Don't hesitate to ask for elaboration. Happy to help out.

  • Losing ram! Please help

Ok, I'm very new to Mac but not using a computer in general so hopefully this will be painless to solve
Problem: Using iStat I monitor the various things my computer does. Being new to Mac, and this widget in general I cannot speak for it's accuracy but I can speak for it's overall consistency.
Ever since installing the latest update for the OS, and installing a program called Shapeshifter (Which I immediately uninstalled, using spotlight to find every instance of it on the computer).
My ram just keeps disappearing till there is literally 65 mb left, this happens over the course of say an hour and is accompanied by random fluctuations in cpu usage. There is clearly something going on in the background that I have no knowledge of how to find, and stop.
Just to say it normally my ram is steady, and only fluctuations when using a program and goes back once I am done. So this is very strange to me for this to be happening.
Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated!
Intel based iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   I do have boot camp installed, but this has not been problematic nor was it used at all today

Well, it's hard to imagine what might be causing the problem, since the picture was taken after a restart. Ideally, you should look at Activity Monitor once the problem has occurred, and see which processes are using the memory. In my experience, Safari has memory leaks and will eventually gobble up all your free RAM, dragging down system performance. Quitting Safari fixes it. But IIRC you said it was happening after a couple hours, and it usually takes several days to a week for Safari to show this behavior for me.
Also, Dashboard widgets are notorious consumers of RAM. I seriously trimmed down the number of widgets displaying in my Dashboard after discovering that they were using more than half my RAM. Now I only have those that I really couldn't happily live without.

  • [Athlon64] RAM question for the K8T Neo2 F

The current RAM i have in my system is as follows.
2 chips Kingston 256 DDR 400 single sided
2 chips Super Talent 512 DDR 400 single sided
I tried installing the 2 512s in the green slots and the 2 256s in the Purple slots and when i booted i got a 3 beep error with no POST or BIOS at all.
I switched the chips to the 512s in the DIMM 1 and 3 slots andthe 256s in the 2 and 4 slots. The computer boots fine. I'm not sure exactly how to tell what speed the chips are running at and if they are running in dual channel mode. I looked in the BIOS and under the cell menu the DDR speed says 200 and the HT frequency is set to 1000mhz.
What happened to the chips clocking at 400 and the dual channel?
    Thanks in advance.

I think thats it. I did notice that under the memory tab and in channels# it says dual. So in dual mode it acual says its clocked at 200mhz, but you double that for the 400 rate as advertised?
