  • New GFX card, Quartz Extreme error, and suddenly FCP 6 will not run. Help me fix this problem please!

Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro1,1 Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 7 GB Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
My old GFX card nVidia GeForce 7300GT which is busted.
I replaced it with a nVidia NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 from a Mac Pro of the same generation.
I'm now getting a Quartz Extreme error whenever I try to run Final Cut Pro 6 or Compressor. "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Pro 6 requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Well, I checked the specs of the card and it does support Quartz Extreme. So why isn't FCP 6 running?
Looking under the System Profiler > Graphics/Displays, it doesn't say the Cinema HD Display supports Quartz Extreme, but how could that be, because the Quadro 4500's specs online says it does?!! This was the better GFX card made for the same generation of Mac Pro but somehow doesn't work!
This is also effecting my DVD player App with an error: "A valid video device could not be found for playback: -70017". Which has never happened before either.
I've researched online and can't find anything that works.
The card has power running to it and the monitor is hooked into the closest DVI port to the logic board which most of people with the same problem have done to fix this. I've also gone into the Disk Utility and ran both Verify and Repair permissions and the same for the boot disk.
Nothing. I'm stumped. Short of trying to flash the ROM on the GFX card I'm not sure what to do. And I'm not comfortable doing that. Help please?
I'm using Final Cut Pro 6 and subsequent older versions of Motion and Compressor, not FCP X or companion series.

  • How do you hook up a TV monitor to a second GFX card?

hi - after i learned that the Nv7800GT GFX card I ordered with my G5 dual core doesn't output to S-Video, i ordered and installed a 6600 card (which allegedly does). However now that it is installed, i can't seem to get it to recognize the TV monitor i've hooked up using the apple DVI to S-Video adapter. the system profiler just tells me "no display connected" on both of its ports.
Can someone please help me to set this up correctly? I want to use the 6600 to drive an external monitor or beamer.
thx for any help in advance!
    fj

Did you hit "Detect Displays" ?
yes. i notice that in the sys prefs only my cinema display (the one connected to the 7800GT) is shown. in my experience of using "extended desktop" mode, i would see a second display listed, along with several resolution options.
but in this case, i am not using a single gfx card with a second monitor hooked up. so why do i not "see" the second card in the control panel? (it shows up in the system profiler)

  • Do I need a new GFX card for FCS 2?

"An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)"
I don't speak this language. I have a Power Mac G5 Quad. When I go to "About this MAC" it says that I have PCI something, but nothing about "Express Quartz Extreme". Will I need to update my graphics card before installation.
Many thanks, and pardon my ignorance.

If you have the basic Power Mac Quad G5 it came with the Nvidia GeForce 6600 with 256MB memory.
You have no need to worry about your GFX card.
You can see that you have "Quartz Extreme" supported by looking at the Graphics/Displays tab in System Profiler.
(the "Express" part belongs with PCI, not Quartz Extreme. You have a "PCI Express" card.)

  • Why does this mavericks start on its own? even after downloading GFX card status it keeps on restarting. Fix it Apple. I'm going Banana.

The laptop says kernel error, but after downloading GFX card status the laptop keeps on getting restarted. Oh why did i buy a macbook?

Either your Mac is broken, or you have something installed which isn't compatible. Hard to tell without the kernel panic log.

  • GFX card HELP!!!

    I'm using OSX 10.4.6 on a G4 Dual 500mhz agp machine.
Was given a Radeon9800pro card but the machine doesn't like it.
I've got FCP Pro 5 - but obviously it doesn't like the piddly ATI card that is in the machine.
Does anyone know which, if any of the compatible cards will work in my machine? The list of gfx cards compatible with fcp pro 5 is here: http://www.apple.com/uk/finalcutstudio/specs.html?finalcutpro
or if there is a card not listed that will work?

Motion requires the standard graphics card found in any Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iMac Intel Core Duo, Power Mac G5, iMac G5, a 1.25GHz or faster PowerBook G4, or a 1.25GHz or faster flat-panel iMac
Minimum supported graphics cards: ATI Radeon 9800XT, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9600 Pro, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, NVIDIA GeForce 6600 and 6600LE, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, NVIDIA GeForce Go5200 or FX 5200 Ultra
Recommended graphics cards: ATI Radeon X1900 XT, ATI Radeon X850 XT, ATI Radeon X800 XT, ATI Radeon X1600, NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4500, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL or 6800 GT DDL
I use a nvidia 5500 that will run all the 10.4.8 video treats. It came out of my PC, I bought it to vo all the tricks with Visra. I had a guy at www.strangedogs.com flash it for the MAC total cost of $50., card 25, flash 25. This would work with your Mac, it is a minimum approach, but works great, it does the Quartz extreme thing with revolving 3D windows in Tiger, etc.
I suggest you go to the strange dogs forum, they seem to really know the Mac and the Video cards. With what you want to do, I suggest you go high end, Radeon 800, 850. In the long run you will be better off.
If you are a gamer then you will always be chasing a faster card.

  • GFX Card) Intel(r) 82815 Graphics Controller

when i play counter strike or other games my fps drops i have tryed every thing even down to reformating
i think i got a onboard gfx card but when i look in bios i theres no option to disable it  (GFX Card) Intel(r) 82815 Graphics Controller.

If you are using the integrated VGA of an i815 chipset it's really not worth anything.
Have a look in the device manager what display adapter is installed.
If the integrated VGA is in use it will be disabled the moment you install an AGP card, there isn't a manual disable option.

  • Nvidia 7900 GFX card now out!!  When will Apple offer it???

Nvidia 7900 GFX card now out!! When will Apple offer it???
Hoping to get one and run Aperture with it sooner rather then wait months like usuall. PC users always get to use it before us
Where can a person order the 7800 from anyway??? Anyone know?

This would be more of an Apple request than Nvida idea. Apple have certain G5 customers to keep sweet (specificially ME!) who want to trade-up. NVida is not going to decide to offer a specific 7900/7600 card for such a low demand. So its Apples decision, i guess, to make the request, set engineering specs and prices. NVida might just want to charge a steep premium to customise the card bios, debug and then test it. Apple really need to put effort into this for our sake.
All this may be irrelevant IF there is a contract between Apple and NVida that states nVida supply 'latest and greatest' video cards no matter what technology nvida is using. Who knows.
What is worrying is we are such a small quantity of (dual-core) users who need a card upgrade that some toad may think it not worthwhile. Time will tell, but Joe Scherr's (sp?) comment on the 'dual 6600' thread is encouraging.

  • Diffrence between quality of preview monitor from hardware & GFX card

Can anyone explain me the diffrence between quality of preview monitor from 3rd party hardware card like BM, matrox, AJA etc  & GFX card like GTX 285 which also gives preview full frame HD, is it an draft mode or full quality

This topic has been quite extensively covered - and VERY recently too.

  • Survey: Which gfx card really acheives the best results?

So there seems to be a whole host of different success stories with the general speed of Aperture and it would be interesting to see what everyone is running with (gfx card) and if thats perceived as quick enough

I'm on a new Dual Core 2.3 PMG5, with the Nvidia 6600 (256MB, not the LE) card. I'd like to see the 6600 and the 6600 LE side by side sometime to see the difference. My primary reason for getting the 2.3 instead of the 2.0 was the extra 128MB on the nvidia card.
Graphic performance is good. I feel I'm able to sort through hundreds of images at a time efficiently without the graphics effects slowing me down. Adjustments aren't blindingly fast, but definitely usable. Loupe tool works perfectly, and stack and fullscreen transitions are smooth. Unless the 7800 card offered massive improvements in showing live changes to image adjustments, I wouldn't be interested in upgrading, and right now I'm glad I didn't opt for the upgrade.
The stack, autostack, and searching performance problems are what really give me headaches though.

  • I need a new gfx card

    Hi
I have an ati 5870 card and i use 3 screens with DVI ports incl 1 display port adapter for the third screen.
And now i want a new gfx card but i dont know what to chose because i need to connect my 3 screens with DVI
The card i am looking for must have the following port.
    2 DVI
    1 HDMI
    1 display port
But all the new cards seems to have 1 or 2 dvi and 4 mini display ports.
I have looked on this card MSI R7970 Lightning
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R7970-Lightning.html
Can i use these mini display ports and some kind of adapter that makes a HDMI and Displayport ?
Or can i get some adapter that makes my DVI screen ports to mini display port ?
Can i plug in 4 monitors on same time with the 4 minidisplay ports ?
Im a bit confused here..so please help me out

At the moment i have 3 samsung syncmaster 245B with DVI ports
So can i conenct 2 of my screens to the DVI ports on the card and use a "minidisplay port adapter to display port"
and then connect my third screen with this adapter i have. It needs a display port.

  • Mac don't use the dedicated gfx card

       Hi i have a late 2011 macbook pro 15 with i7 and hd6750gfx card.
but i installed osx again and installed every uppdate and so on. But when i play Starcraft 2 i lagg alot.
i look at my speccs and the mac says i only have the hd3000 integrated gfx card. So the question is... how do i activate the dedicated?

The Mac has two GPUs: the integrated Intel GPU and the high performance AMD Radeon GPU, both sharing the 1GB VRAM. The OS switches between the two as needed. Since a static display does not need much processing, you will always see the Intel GPU in the summary report when doing an About This Mac/More Info... If you want to force the faster/bigger/better Radeon GPU to be on all the time, go to System Preferences/Energy Saver and uncheck the Automatic graphics switching checkbox.
Note that battery life will go down the drain and the Mac will run much hotter after doing this.

  • 2.3 DP (Sept. 2005 model) whats best GFX card to upgrade to?

    Hi,
I'm sick of my "whining" Radeon 9650 GFX card in my DP 2.3.
Whats a better card to get? Without spending silly amounts of money!
My main graphical things are video editing, and gaming.
    Thanks

the graphics cards for macs seem to be special ones, I have looked at my 6800 and it seems to be different than the others, also on the nvidia/ATI websites they have different ones... I would try searching froogle( google shop) to find a place to buy the apple ones... also the 6800 is supposed to take power from 2 other places than the actial AGP slot.. on mine it doesn;t do this so it must be different for mac

  • Damaged GFX-card or AGP-port? (Fx5700 Ultra)

    Hi
Before I decide to return my gfx-card to the store where I bought it I thought I'd ask you experts what you think of the problem. I would hate to get a new card back and still have "the problem". This is what happened...
Few days back decided to play some CounterStrike: Source, as I've done hundreds of times with this comp. and setup before. Suddenly my FPS drops to 5 and ping goes up to 600+. I checked Task-manager and CPU-usage was going from 20% to 99% with like 1 second intervals. Rebooted etc. and decided it was a problem with CS:s. I tried watching a movie and same thing happened (CPU going crazy and FPS dropping/topping all the time).
I then tried drivers, update MB etc. Nothing worked. So I put in my old GFX-card instead, a GF 4400 Ti, and everything worked like a charm! Video ran smooth and rames ran ok (obviously not as good as with the fx5700). I tried installing my FX5700 again, thinking it might have been a temporary thing, but the problem was/is still here.
Now my GF5700 Ultra ran at 8x AGP, and the old 4400 Ti only ran 4x AGP. So what do you guys think the problem might be ... GFX-card breakdown or AGP (MB) that no longer can handle 8x AGP (for whatever reason)?
Sorry about the long post but I thought I'd give as much info as possible in my first post
and no, no overclocking of any kind have been done. I tried to downclock the 5700 Ultra but problem stayed the same.
Anyone wanna give it a shot or do you need additional info?
    Thanks

yeh ok. I have kind of found the problem, but will post my PSU-specs first for you to comment (I can always buy a better one anyway)
    300W
    +5V - 30A
    +12V - 10A
    -5V - 0.5A
    -12V - 0.8A
    +3.3V - 14A
    +5V grnd - 2A
My GFX-card is broke tho. I just tested it on my buddies computer, who has a 400W PSU, and he got EXACTLY the same problems as I've experienced. What I find particularly odd tho is that I've been having mouseproblems for about 1 month - mouse going crazy once every hour (differs) by lagging ALOT (like the CPU didn't give it any room to even calculate movement etc.). Also I could not boot my computer when mouse was connected to the PS2-port (only USB worked). When my buddy tried my GFX-card he got not only the exact same graphical bugs but his mouse went crazy too - lagging and wouldn't boot if it was connected to PS2-port.
I find this very odd but atleast it proves that the GFX-card is the problem (but how can it be creating PS2-port shutdowns?).
Think I should invest in a new PSU to be on the safe side tho? I will return my GFX-card to get a new one ofcourse. Hope this is not a reaccuring thing for this model.
    Thanks
