ATI 6750M issue in Boot Camp

I recently purchased a Mac Book Pro for gaming and work. (15" with 8GB ram, 2.3Ghz with the 1GB ATI 6750M)
I used Boot Camp to install Windows 7 for some of my windows related games. Unfortunately, games like WoW, and other steam games don't seem to take advantage of the ATI 6750M even though the drivers are installed.
I know WoW has a MAC client, but I was hoping to make my Windows install ... My "gaming" environment, where all my games lived.
WoW for example says I don't have a shader compatible card installed.   The new FPS Brink seems to run at around 20 FPS.
Any suggestions?

No answers yet, but I saw an update come from Apple today on Boot Camp performance and the Turbo processor.
Maybe this will be taken care of.

  • Video Issues with Boot Camp / WinXP Pro

    I have a MacPro 2.66, Radeon X1900 with a 23" Cinema HD Display.
The problem I'm running in to was the same one I first experienced when installing XP Pro. No video. There was a video signal to the 23" display, but I got nothing other than a black screen.
I found a solution to use a different monitor, as apparently there are some "issues" with Boot Camp and/or XP Pro and the 23" display.
The install of XP Pro went fine on a different (smaller) monitor. It's the post-install that is not working.
I got XP to boot up once or twice and all seemed to be fine.
Now, when I boot back up in to XP Pro, I get a video signal and can hear XP boot up (Nice cozy XP startup music), but I only get a black monitor screen. No video whatsoever. No posting, no nothing.
Granted, I have not done it yet, but I'm sure I can slap on the smaller tube and get XP to boot.
I'm suspecting a video driver issue with the Radeon X1900 and the 23" display, but was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and what the solution might be?
I'm probably going to have to wait to see if Boot Camp 1.2 fixes this issue....seeing how there is already an sata issue that needs to be addressed as well.
    Any thoughts?
    Michael

Well, I'm not sure what one should do if another display isn't available. But, I was lucky to have an old 17" Cinema to use instead of the 23" to install drivers with the X1900 card installed.
    I went here...
    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folder ID=293
... and downloaded their Catalyst Control Center, installed it, and went to "Advanced" to do display discovery. Then I did a full shutdown and restart.
The 23" works now. Though, as others have said, it's black until just before the XP desktop loads (as I assume the drivers load with the desktop).
Aside from it being a pain to get working on XP, the card screams (on both platforms)! There is a slight bit of fan noise which is pretty subtle and only seems to rev on startup/self-test but so far it's definitely worth it. I didn't think it'd be observable outside of 3D apps but with Mac OS GPU acceleration even Tiger seems faster!

  • Apple Store Refuses to Diagnose Hardware Issue after Boot Camp Installed

I previously reported an issue in the Boot Camp Beta forum, but figured I share this with other MBP users as well. After loading the updated firmware, running boot camp to partion my drive, I installed Windows XP Professional. During the install, the screen would go dark, and come back at irregular intervals, as if there was a video sync problem of something. I managed to get XP installed, and booted it and loaded the updated drives from the Boot Camp driver CD which I had earlier created. Subsequent attempt to use the XP installation result in a constantly blank screen, with only occational glitches, as if there is some activity coming out of the GPU, but it's not working correctly.
This is what led me to take my machine to my local (15 miles away) Apple Retail Store (Washington Sqaure, Tigard, Oregon), and attempt to show the problem to a "genius". HOWEVER... As soon as I mentioned "Boot Camp" and XP, they went into the whole "public beta, blah, blah, blah", "not supported", etc. I tried to explain that I was not reporting a SOFTWARE issue with Boot Camp, but rather a HARDWARE ISSUE which is exposed on my machine only after using BOOT CAMP to partition the hard drive, and then installing Windows XP. All I get was "Well, it works fine in OSX, and Boot Camp is Public Beta, so there's nothing we're going to do". Obviously, I'm livid. And, will pursuing any and all avenues to bring this problem to Apple Management attention. First it was Mark Pienpakdee the "genius" who tried to help me, and then I was further rebuked by Mark Macsurak, Assistant Manager. So, I'm left with broken hardware which won't work correctly running Windows, and no recourse until Boot Camp isn't "Public Beta". What a load of crap. I was so mad, I didn't even bother buying the extra AC adapter I was planning on picking up. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was absolutly shocked that the "genius" didn't react with anything like "wow, what an interesting problem, let's see if we can diagnose it". He didn't even want to see me boot XP to show the problem, only wanted to see that OSX was working normally and send me on my way.
If you have had similar problem at the Washington Square store in Oregon, be sure to let them know by sending e-mail to [email protected], I know I will...
    Eric

If you are going to send an e-mail you should send it to [email protected] However, nobody from Apple is going to send you a response. The Software is Beta which means it is not ready for Prime Time (Also that means that the drivers are beta too). Plus they say before you decide to install any of this in their write ups that they do not and will not provide any support for BootCamp and/or Windows. So they are right not to do anything if the computer works like it is supposed to under OS 10.4.6. Now they might take a look at somethings when OS 10.5 comes out if it has BootCamp in it. They may have something similiar in it, or it might be a perfected BootCamp. However, I doubt that they will ever provide any support for Windows. There has been some talk that Microsoft is looking into supporting Windows on the MAC. However, as far as I have heard no decision on that has come out as of yet.

  • Hardware issues with boot camp?

I wasn't sure where to put this, as it's actually a hardware issue, but it does directly relate to my software.
I use Windows for gaming and for college work that is windows only. The issue I have is that the graphics card doesn't seem to want to register. Everything looks blocky and pixelated. When windows starts up, and it does the loading screen with the flag and the "Windows is starting...", the flag might as well be a 256 color image. When I run games, some look okay, but not like they should. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion looks okay when you're outside, but the coloring looks off, and the objects look like they have serrated edges. It's bad... And I've seen it on a normal PC.
For a machine that has a really nice updated graphics card, this mac should run anything. I have two gigs of ram, an ATI Radeon HD 2600, and a nice display. Not to mention, this machine picks up at 2.4 Ghz on an intel core 2 duo. Why are all my applications looking like they belong on a Windows 95 machine? I tried to upgrade the drivers, but it tells me it can't find an ATI card. I look in the system preferences for the windows, and it shows I have an ATI Radeon XT 2600. I read that the card is the same as the HD, but still the updates don't see the card.
Not to mention I keep getting system crashes that deal with the hal.dll file. I know that this is the hardware file in the system folder, so it makes sense that the problem would be due to the graphics card. I've already had to reinstall the system twice, and this last time I did a system a repair and it lost the paths to all my files. So all the programs were there, but none of them would run. Also, now I don't have access to my mac drive anymore. It lets me view it, but no trading files between machines. I've checked sharing already. Looks fine.
Anyone know what's going on here? And yes, I know about the little pixelated dots that people talk about. I haven't had them... And I am using boot camp 2.0 with the latest drivers. Didn't help much.
Running Windows XP SP2, fully updated.

Re installing windows works best if you erase and or format the disc first with disc utility in os x. I couldn't reinstall windows correctly and had simalar error untill I used macs disc utility first. I read your post all the way and I can't comment why the graphics are messed up though, sorry good luck

  • Help Put An End to Windows Activation Issue in Boot Camp and Fusion

Several people have indicated you should set it up Fusion first before you activate Windows. Does that mean you activate in Fusion before Boot Camp? What is also not clear is the reason for this and whether this bypasses the issue of having to activate Windows twice - once in native mode (Boot Camp) and once in VM (Fusion), if you intend on using Windows in both Boot Camp and Fusion.
I'm hoping to finally put an end to this ongoing question and issue since I've yet to find a definitive answer on several boards. The only answer I was able to find was that you have to activate Windows in both native and VM but this obviously conflicts with what a few people have posted, unless of course I have misinterpreted what they've stated.

Thnx. My MBP has a built-in optical drive, so that explains the first screen without the option to create the installation disk.
So the problem remains to get Boot Camp recognize the installation disk. I tried to create an 8 GB (and after that even a 16 GB) installation disk on a USB stick and add the Boot Camp files to this stick. Next screen, Boot Camp still asks to insert the Windows Installation Disk. After that I burned the iso on a new DVD to be able to insert an original disk in the optical drive, but even this did not work out.
Today I called Microsoft to tell me whether I was taking the right steps, but this guy couldn't help me either. "I should not install windows in a partition, but I should use parallels to install it under iOS..." ?
The iso I have is an original disk image of Windows 8.1 Pro NL, meant to make a clean install. So what am I doing wrong?

  • Updating an ATI video drivers in Boot Camp with Vista, should it be done?

I use Boot Camp on my Mac Pro for games. I play Age of Conan on Vista on my Mac using Boot Camp. I can't play Conan anymore because it is telling me to update my video drivers but I am worried it will effect the Mac side of the computer. What should I do?

The guide on drivers heaven tells you all you need to know, disable the UAC in vista and reboot. Download the ATI driver package which is now 8.6, extract the package and then cancel the install. Use the mod tool and then navigate to the ATI folder and double click setup. It should run perfectly and all is well, I did it the other day with my iMac which has the ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT chip. The simple way to say what the mod tool does is that it changes the driver to recognise the apple signature on the chip.

  • Issue with boot camp installation

Hi, i have som problem with installing boot camp. I get an error message in the Windows installation guide that my superdrive are missing the correct drivers. I have tried to eject the Windows disk to insert my Snow Leopard recovery disk, but i cant eject it during the set up.
    Any suggestions?

First post so sorry if this is not in the right place but wanted to post this so it might help someone.  I have installed boot camp on macbook air and had no issues.  We were trying to install Boot Camp on new macbook pro with 10.7.4 and boot camp 4.0.4.  We could not get it to burn the windows support files.  It would download the windows support files but fail to burn every time with no option to save the file.  I forget the exact verbage.  After searching all over the web  / forums, etc we tried several times and it would fail every time.  We finally thought that maybe it was too large of a download to fit on a CD so we tried it with a DVD and BINGO!!  I feel stupid but seriously!!!!  It couldn't just tell us that the target was not large enough.  Just wanted to post for others.  Thanks

  • Audio issues in Boot Camp

I recently picked up the new MacBook Pro model to use as a mobile computer for audio production. I rely on low-latency and high-fidelity real-time audio processing for what I do, and unfortunately I have been having some sever issues with that.
I use a program called FL Studio on Windows 8.1 in Boot Camp. The CPU usage meter within the program shows ~50% CPU usage for the program, even when the project file loaded is idle and not playing anything. When I press play, the CPU usage will jump up to 99% and occasionally drop down to 0%, presumably as some sort of CPU overload safety feature. However, the laptop has far better specifications than my PC desktop with the same software setup, which handles the projects with ease.
I have yet to find any sort of conclusive answer or reason for this crippling issue, and I would like to know if there is anything I can do to solve it so I can produce on this powerhouse of a notebook ASAP
    Thanks!

Yes if you want the Lag to go away. But from the other thread I read about this problem one person replace their original Mac with another and the lag was still there. It seems to be a hardware problem.
    A question.
If everyone in the Audio field is using Mac computers why do you use a Windows Only Audio program.
I was visiting a friend in Colorado last year and we went to a music studio, he's a musician, and the owner was running Windows 7 on the studio computer. I think he was running Pro Tools.

  • Unicode issue with Boot Camp XP

My Boot Camp XP is running perfectly fine. However, I have a piece of software that has a process which involves renaming files, and this renaming now results in some weird file names (the software does not do this when running a "regular" Win XP). The support for the software told me to try changing the unicode setting (to UTF-8) - how do I go about this? Thanks!

Actually, you must have Windows finish its installation before installing the Bootcamp Drivers. When you get in your desktop for the first time, go to: Start> My Computer> Select your Mac's DVD Drive. Look for an "eject" button in the Windows Explorer window.
You may also want to check the Bootcamp Installation guide for Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6), it comes handy in these situations:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
This is the one for Mac OS X Lion (10.7):
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
    EDIT:
Added a video tutorial from CNET, but follow the Apple Provided installation guide:

This video is more up to date:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-CXTovYk3A&feature=related
Note that the tutorial says that Windows 7 is not compatible, this not longer the case after the release of Bootcamp 3.1.

  • Issues with boot camp on iMac 5K

I'm trying to dual boot my iMac 5K with Windows 8. Initially, I used the windows media creation tool to set up my USB stick with the windows installation process. This was giving me an error relating to the partition format, can't remember the exact error though. So I torrented a copy of windows 8 (I have a valid activation key that I purchased). I used Boot Camp Assistant to create the Windows install USB stick, the support software, and the partition. When my computer restarts in to the Windows installation, I enter my activation key, select the software to install, and the bootcamp-created partition. The installer tells me that I can't install Windows on this partition, so I clicked the format button AND ran diskpart to format it to NTFS. This resulted in an error saying "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one." I've been reading through forums and trying things for the last six or so hours and figured it was time for me to turn to asking my own question.
    Thanks in advance

  • Still waiting for a solution to the option key issue and boot camp.

I posed a question about not being able to boot up into windows using the option key method during restart.  I never found an answer to it.  Also, I'm one of those folks who lacks audio in windows Vista.

There is no solution, it cannot be done. Yes they are all products made by Apple, but the Mac has a different operating system than the iPad and the iPhone. The iPad and the iPhone run iOS. The Mac runs OS X. Apps for iOS do not run on a Mac and apps for OS X do not run on iPads or iPhones. If a developer makes an app for both iOS and for OS X they are separate purchases.

First line in my question reads "I've installed Windows 8 Pro on my Macbook Pro"
I don't need to install Windows 8, I have it installed. If you even read my question; I am asking if any one knows how to get Windows 8 to see all the memory on the graphic card, and not only 2MB of it like the picture show above.
The picture above shows "2112 MBytes" which is roughly 2 GB.  The picture above does NOT show "only 2MB"

I don't use Bootcamp/Parallels/Windows but I saw in the Bootcamp forums that someone solved this issue by going to the ATI site and downloading and installing the X1900 drivers for Windows (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html). They had to do this while in Windows (which was difficult) do to the garbled screen but managed to suceed. Not sure why they didn't download the trial version of Parallels and do the same thing with an ungarbled screen.

  • Mac Pro/ Leopard/ Boot Camp/ XP and 2 ATI Radeon XT1900 ????

I recently went surfaced from a hardware nightmare with my Mac Pro. I need 4 monitors on the XP pro/ boot camp side and was unble to do so using an added ATI XT1900 to my Mac Pro. The drivers would not successfully load. Also the added card buggered the original card. After uninstall and some trouble shooting I was able to get back to a functional configuration with 1 card.
Now that Leopard is out with the new boot camp.... does anyone have experience (successful) with 2 video cards (ATI radeon xt1900) in boot camp/ XP pro??? I dont want to go through me last experience as my job depends on the XP/ boot camp working.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Dan

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the original poster didn't ask or mention anything about Crossfire. (though as a side note, I have read that some people have sucessfully got their 7300gt's into SLI by purchasing a special dongle and downloading a hacked driver.)
And as to whether a user would need two or more monitors for their needs is completely up to the them if it fits their needs, the way i see it the term 'waste' is subjective depending on the user and his/her needs.
