ATI 8x AGP

First off, this is what i'm running.
MSI K7N2 delta-L
Amd xp 2600+ @2.1ghz (10.5x200)
512 pc3200 ddr
Ati Radeon 9700 pro
Whenever I run the video card at 8x agp it will crash out of anything 3d in 5 seconds flat. I jump it down to 4x and it's fine.
I've seen that alot of other people have had this problem with msi boards and i guess msi hates ati.
I would like to run the video card that I spend a load of money on at its full potential.
Besides that, this board rocks.
Does anyone know when i can expect a fix (driver or bios) for this, or does anyone know a way to get this thing to run stabaly at 8x?
Thanks.

What type of memory are you using? Do you have any IRQ conflicts? What type of PSU are you using? ATI cards are power hungry!
Listen, you don't know the situation. And I don't have an Ati, I have a FX5800!!! You know this card???  :P
Wonkanoby knows about it,MSI knows about it (and they promised a fix for it)

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac AGP (driver needed for OS 9.2?)

    Hi guys!
    How's everybody doin?
I just picked up a used ATI 9000 AGP 128 MB (as an upgrade for my G4 Quicksilver 800 MHZ).
I'm using 2 HD's (one with OS9), the other (with OSX)
I think OS 9.2 will do ok without the need for a driver, but I just wanna make sure ...
    Thanx
Everyone is very helpful around here
    Mike

    Hello again Carl, and Dave
I know it's been a while since we last talked about this issue. Well apparently, I do have OS freezing problems
with 9.2 and the ATI 9000 Mac Pro - take a look:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4289264#4289264
Wonder if your driver would solve this?
But can I put your driver in the system while it's still functioning with the older OEM video card back in?
(that's the only way I can get the system not to freeze)
    Thanks

  • Fed up with ATI X800. Looking for Nvidia 7800 GT

After weeks of research I've come to learn that the ATI X800 AGP graphics card I have in my (non-PCI-Express) G5 dual 1.8 has serious design flaws that ATI simply isn't interested in addressing.
So since I need a card that will work with my 30" Cinema Display, and I'm use to the power of an X800 with 256 VRAM (when it was working), I don't want to settle for anything less powerful.
Based on my research Nvidia's 7800GT is compatible with my G5's AGP slot, has 256VRAM, and even benchmarks faster than the x800!
Problem is, I can't seem to find a place where I can buy it. At least not for the Mac.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi-
You will need to "make" your own 7800, or have someone mod it for use in the G5. The Nvidia Geforce 7800 AGP is the best candidate. Check through the site for info on how to mod the card, or, visit The Mac Elite Forums, and check out stuff for sale, or inquire as to having a card modded for you.

  • Pixel corruption with ATI X800XT Mac edition

To allow running a 30 inch Cinema display, I installed an ATI X800XT AGP card in my Powermac G5 (3.5 GB RAM). After working well for a few days without excessive fan noise, it developed pixel corruption; whether in the post screen or after booting the OS. I replaced the card with another; this time it worked for two weeks before developing the same problem. Any solution?

In case anyone who's in the dark about this problem (I had as well), this is what I've found in ATI's web site:
    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=30606
In spite of the lack of details as to what the problem is, is irrelevant. Unless your super-tech savvy and can solve the problem yourself, don't waist time asking them to fix the card. Tell them to replace it PERIOD (if ATI has any in-stock).
I bought my card from www.macsales.com and didn't send it to ATI because of all the rumors I heard about ATI's lousy costumer service (MAC people get the bad end of it). Long story short I was LUCKY to discover at the time, that they had an "open box" *+NVIDIA 6800 ULTRA+* for sale. After sending them a copy of ATI's report and sending a picture of my display, they sent me the card and only paid the difference in price.
If I were you, I would send it back to whomever you bought the card from, and let them deal with it on your behalf (depending on their sales policies) or get your money back. I do that with most products I buy.

  • MS-6590 & AGP 8x/4x card installation Problem

I've got an MSI MS-6590 motherboard and am having problems installing AGP 8x/4x cards in it.  I've tried two different cards (one being an ATI 128mb AGP Radeon 9200, the other a GeForce FX 5200 256mb AGP card) and in both cases when I booted up my system after installing the card Window 98 identified both cards as  PCI cards and wanted to install a PCI driver.  I canceled out of this both times and tried to install the AGP driver in each case from the CD supplied with the card only to get an error message stating that the driver I was attempting to install didn't match the  card the system was seeing.  After this the installation was aborted.
Both cards claimed to support Windows 98/98SE (the Radeon through the Windows ME driver).
My system currently uses an ATI Radeon 7200 card with works just fine with my MS-6590.
Do AGP 8x/4x cards require Windows XP inspite the card manufacturer claiming that Windows 98SE is supported or is there some kind of hardware conflict that is causing Windows 98 not to see the card as being AGP?  If the latter, how do I resolve the problem?
    Scott Miller

Well, I downloaded the 455vp1 version of VIA Hyperion 4in1 driver and installed it without any problems.  It did, however, install a VIA Standard Host Bridge driver and a VIA Standard PCI to ISA Bridge driver.  Are these, particularly the latter, going to cause problems (so far they haven't) since the MS-6590 doesn't have any ISA slots?  Can I remove them (if necessary)? If so, how? I tried deleting the latter via the Control Panel/Device Manager but Windows 98SE insisted on reinstalling it when I restarted my system!
I also found a "VIA AGP 4x/133 Setup Program" in my App Add/Remove list (I don't know if the previous 449 4in1 installer added it or it was installed by the 6590 CD driver installer).  Do I need to keep this or can it be safely uninstalled?
    Thanks for all the help!

  • MSI 645 Ultra-C AGP voltage?

Would like to know what is the AGP voltage of the motherboard mentioned above, can't find it anywhere in the MSI site.
Asking because I'm using that mobo, and my newly bought ATI radeon 9600xt just won't work on it. When I say it won't work, I mean it crashes at any attempt to do 3d rendering(including direct3d test at dxdiag). My older card GF2MX worked pretty well.
Someone suggested that "cause new graphic cards are using 1.5V......... Old 4X AGP are only compatible with 3V graphic card. " How true is that? Could that be precisely just why my new graphic card won't work on my mobo? The board I mentioned above only support 4xagp true enough, but I'm not sure of the voltage. Does anyone know? The manual does not specify it.
Yeap, I installed and updated to the latest drivers.
    Thank you!

My mobo can support 4x/8x AGP but I did use older AGP cards on it so no worries. I used to have an SIS 645D SA7 mobo from Abit that runs 2x/4x AGP Gart but also supports 4x/8x AGP cards as well as 1x/2x & 2x/4x AGP cards since 4x are found in all current AGP cards and on almost the new AGP cards, the RAMDACs are running on 1.5v(including the older GF4 series) so it's definately supported.
Just follow my suggestions on increasing your AGP Voltage for your ATI card in BIOS and use Omega drivers for ATI based AGP card. It won't harm your ATI card at all .
Lastly,I recommend that you do a clean un-installation of your old nVidia drivers or any older versions of AGP drivers before installing the new drivers. You may also be required to update your AGP Accelerator Gart driver for SIS based mobo, check the mobo's driver page for the latest version .

  • AGP Video card upgrade

I fear the answer will cost me $400, but here we go:
I have a dual processor Power Mac G5 tower.
There's an AGP 9800 128mb video card in there I want to upgrade.
I have an ATI X800 AGP 256mb card from a PC that's not being used anymore. I can install the card and use a Y connector off the optical drive to get power to the card, but when I boot the system I get no video.
Just as a test, I removed the card and booted the mac with no video card, it acted the same as when the X800 was in: System appears to be booting, no error beeps or anything, I just don't see anything on the screen.
I fear the answer is "Buy a Mac Edition card" but really, the only feasible option is the X800XT MacEd which is a ~$400 card after shipping costs.
Now, is there a bios upgrade that I need to make the card work? Do I need to reset the PRAM to make it be recognized? Does anyone know a card with 256mb RAM that will outperform the 9800 I have now, but not cost me an arm and a leg?
I only run two applications on this computer: Firefox and World of Warcraft. I guess if this card won't work, I'll just ebay it and spend $100 on another gig of ram and wait for the X800 video cards price to drop.
Any help the can be offered, I greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
    G5 Power Mac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Check with Mike over at Accelerate Your Mac, he should know how to flash that card to get it to work with a Mac.
It' probably best to sell it and buy a Mac card, than take a chance.
The X800xt is your best choice and I would choose soon because AMD bought ATI and the future is a little uncertain. Certainly AGP cards will be running out and getting more powerful ones even harder.
You should also run the latest ATI updater before installing the new card.

    Hey,
I have exactly the same problem (Radeon 9700 Mobility here). My native resolution is 1400x1050 and it used to work just fine but the newest driver maxes out at 1280x1024 (as reported by xrandr).
    Shame ATI can't write drivers.

  • At my wits end can any one save xmas for me Re K6Delta LSR And lock ups

    Hi Guys,
Right i have built a pc for the kids but when i try to get it to run it locks up randomly.
    Spec
80 gig seagate baracuda 7200 rpm
    Amd Athlon 2800 XP CPU
    Copper King Cpu Fan
    512 DDr 400 Mhz
    DVD Rom
    DVD 106 RW
ATI 8x AGP 9600 Radeon Pro
Latest drivers for all the above where aplicable are installed.
The machiene seems happy to back up data to the dvdrw and happy for general video play back and editing as well as spread sheets etc. But when it comes to game play the pc just locks up. I have tried another card and another cpu and mother board and on all occassions the symptoms persist. So i can rule out any bads componenets. The only thing i hav'nt changed is the ram but i did use a proggy called docmem which runs from a floppy and checks the ram which it was happy with.
When it crashes my cpu temp is arround 56o - 59o i thought this may be high but according to sources this temp plus alot more should not cause instability.
I got this reading on 2 seperate delta k6 lsr boards as well as 2 cpus ??
Any one any ideas. I'm stuffed and it's supposed to be a xmas presant for the kids but it wo'nt be much good if they cant game.
Is their anything else i should be doing as i dont belive that 2 boards 2 cpus can both be faulty.
    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP QUICK

Perhaps you could try the usual stuff, I suggest you start with no 5 or 6, as the other then will be natural:
1 Are all cables properly connected: power cables, IDE-cables, sound etc
2 Are the units set as master and slave if applicable? Suggestion, keep harddisks on a separate IDE connection, No 1.
3 Are there any hard ware conflicts? See Control Panel/System!
4 Have you tried entering 'Safe Mode, if applicable, where you can see and remove surplus hard ware?
5 Try minimizing your system, and install just one unit at a time! Time consuming, I know, but rather effective.
6 What does the BIOS say about the installed units? Are they correctly acknowledged? Press Delete (or whatever) during start-up to enter BIOS.
7 Can you reach Windows Update? Microsofts knowledge base might also be useful.
8 Have you had backgroun programs running while installing software and drivers? Common problem when updating. The only thing you really, really need is Explorer, but SysTray is also recommended.
9 Run MSCONFIG or applicable to see what the computer thinks it should load and be running. There you can also remove programs to start automatically.
Hope things work out! Remember that its as easy to do a mistake as it is to forget it.

  • High amount of caching

Hello, all. First post about arch. Cool distro.
I'm pretty new to Arch but I've been using mainly Fedora for awhile now.  I've noticed something odd in Arch on my most recently acquired box.
    Pentium 4 3.0ghz
    2x 80GB HDD
    1GB of memory
    ATI Radeon AGP card
    Arch 2008.6
I've noticed unusually high amounts of memory caching - unusual at least in my experience. The true usage is very low but I've been noticing the kernel caching about 800-900MB at any given time. The box is currently running without X as I try to troubleshoot my xorg.conf (that's an issue for another post). top, free -m, and /proc/meminfo routinely point to high amounts of memory being cached but actual usage has been hovering around 100MB at most.

However, the machine is very responsive and is handling Samba service very quickly. I should mention I have one 1 GB swap per hard drive for a total of 2GB swap, but I've not even seen those swaps in use yet. Do I need to be concerned or is the high amount of caching something I should look into further? I know it's common for the kernel to cache some, but I've never seen the kernel cache ~95% of the system's available memory.
Thanks. Let me know if you need more output or further specs.

No, definitely not. I realize that caching is not the same as "using," but it seemed like a high amount of caching. I'm being paranoid, then?
Yes, you're. But the term is "ricer" I guess
Seriously now... you can argue what is a high amount of cache with kernel developers, they know better.

  • Audigy Platnium EX re-install probl

    Hello everyone,
I'm having major problems reinstalling my drivers and creative programs for my Sound Blaster Audigy Platnium EX card. My system dri've had problems and I had to restore from a backup. Everything else but the sound card is working BETTER than before the crash.
    Here's my system info:
Windows XP Pro SP, completely up to date
    MSI motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz HT on
    4GB RAM
    ATI X850 AGP Graphics Card
Raid on MB used for (2) RAID 0 stripes of SATA dri'ves.
    Audigy Platnium Card#?? SB0090
    External Break Out Box#? SB00B
I?do a cleansweep following this article:
    Solution ID # 72
How to un-install Sound Blaster drivers and applications?
Then I run DriverCleanerPro and CCleaner. Then I install from the original CD-ROM from a services disabled startup. I keep running into these errors both on install and when I try to cleanup for another attempt:
?You have previously uninstalled drivers without rebooting. Please reboot now and try again.
    or
?You have previously installed drivers without rebooting. Please reboot now and try again.
The IRQs are sharing with minimal devices. They are actually much better set know than before when it was working. I've tried the card in many locations. It used to work fine. The hardware device manager shows no conflicts.
Sometimes the drivers do in fact install and the device manager reports that the card is functioning fine but the creative programs don't find the card and report that it is missing or not functioning?
Other times the drivers fail to install reporting that they were previously installed without a reboot.
Is there a secret order to installing successfully?
    such-as
    -cleanup
    2-install from original CD
    3-autoupdate drivers and programs
I've been at it 2 days now with no luck. Any ideas would be very welcome...
    Thanks much,

I have a simular problem. On the first boot of the day my system will freeze, could be 2sec in, or 2 hours. Once i restart it runds like a dream. Now confirmed it is soundcard drivers by process of elimination. What drivers did you install to get it working without the freezing?

This setup was running great for 2 years until a four year old WD drive failed 3 weeks ago and corrupted its data etc. I had the data backed up so no panic.
I decided to replaced it 3 weeks ago with a new 500GB WD IDE and reinstall 10.5 and migrate users for that drive.
Ever since I have been getting daily if not hourly kernel panics and issues with ALL drives on my system.
At one point the system loscked 4 drives and I could not access them at all.
Discussion group helped fix that issue.
I have managed to saved all my important data to a 500GB drive without a system on it and hopefully can deal with the issues at hand without worrying about the data.
Booted from my System 1.5 install disk and had a dark grey/ Must restart your mac screen while I was booting from the DVD!
Did an Apple Service diagnostics on the machine and all was great - no issues.
So I did a clean install on a drive and all looked great!
No other software installed except the system.
    Rebooted OK.
I then did the apple software update and restarted.
    No startup!
Rebooted with option key down - no drives??
I have been working on this for three days and seem to be going backwards at best.
I can boot sometimes and usually get a kernal panic eventually.
It can happen right away or an hour later.
Sometimes I get a message "your computer was shut down etc" sometimes I don't!?
    Sometimes I get a startup chime - sometimes I don't!!??
    What should I do next?
Advise whatever info you might need and I will do my best to provide it.

I stripped my Mac down to barebones incluing original 80GB Drive 512 RAM and Original Video card and started over.
To make a long procedure shorter I found that all hardware was OK and after running ASD to confirm I reinstalled all my hardware/Add ins except for drives.
I then started to check each drive individually with Applejack and then formatting and reinstalling virgin systems on each drive.
Applejack and/or the system DVD would not fix and/or install on three of the Hard Drives (1 IDE 500GB and 2 500GB SATA)due to permission corruption. I could not do anything with these drives at all!
When I had these individual drives in the computer I experienced kernel panics with every one!
All the drives were under warranty and Western Digital replaced all of them. (I cannot begin to tell you how great Western Digital was in turnaround time and cross shipping and help in this matter.) Their warranty service is the best I have ever experienced bar none!
I am now running non stop for nearly a week without any kernel panic or problem whatsoever. I have also noticed a significant speed up in my computer.
I have rebooted many times and run non stop for days at a time.
I maintain my computer with maintenance scripts once per week and do it faithfully and this type of permission issue can still occur!
Without my backups there would have been a disaster for me.
Many thanks to all the peolpe that emailed help to me from all sources.

  • X800-XT Mac Edition and Photoshop CS2 in Full Screen Mode

I recently installed a new ATI X800XT AGP Retail card into my Dual 2-Gig G5 Mac. I have (2) Sony CRTs connected to this card - a 21" Artisan and a 24" GDM-FW900. So far I have only found one problem and this involves Full-Screen Mode in Photoshop CS2 under a certain condition.
All of the following conditions must be met to reproduce this anomoly, but it is at least consistent and happens 100% of the time. Here are the conditions:
    (1) Open any image in Photoshop CS2
    (2) Zoom in on the image until the image area exceeds the boindaries of the screen.
    (3) Go into Full-Screen Mode (without Menu Bar showing) but hitting the "F" key twice.
    (4) Hit the Tab key to hide toolbars (the image should now fill the screen and extend off all four borders.
    (5) Now - holding down the spacebar to get the hand tool - pan the umage around the screen with the grabber hand. You will notice that the image will not refresh properly.
    (6) One other condition must be met - you must perform this while on the main monitor which normally has the OSX Menu Bar present. Note: changing the menu bar to the other monitor causes this problem to migrate to that monitor only.
    Can anyone else reproduce this?

Post this over at the Adobe forums to see if it's just a CS2 problem.
Also you might want to file a bug report with them.
