ATi Binary drivers issue [SOLVED]

Hi guys. Giving Arch a try since I am getting sick of gentoo and its enormous compile times.
I recently installed base arch (in less than 30min!!) and installed fglrx drivers.
Now the problem is when I go into Gnome there is a white horizontal line underneath my mouse cursor.
Any ideas?

I had to manually edit my xorg.conf after running hwd -x to set my keyboard up correctly.
Oh, is that because your in Sweden? Did it detect the wrong keyboard layout??
And yes will definitely post here if it goes well/bad. Thanks for the help bro.

any idea on what to do?
i want to use the proprietary over the open source because it gives me less problems when using 3d rendering.
or are there any other ways of installing these packages other than pacman?

You could add 'SigLevel = Never' under the catalyst repo in pacman.conf, so that it doesn't check for package integrity.
And about the 404, maybe your 'Server' is incorrect. I use 'Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/$arch'

  • Probs with ATI Catalysts Drivers

I’m currently using ATI Catalyst Drivers 6.14.10.6404 (3.9) for my ATI Radeon 9600xt.
If I upgrade to the latest ATI or Omega Drivers (4.7 I think), my card crashes and is very unstable.
    my current graphics settings are:
    enabled VPU recover
    fast write is on
    AGPx8
Why does 3.9 work and 4.7 not work, I have only had this problem since changing to this board.
    Any help appreciated.

Well I hope it works for you engrrowl!  I was installing a slipstreamed version of XP with SP2.  But that sure didn't help me.  I would randomly have my screen corrupt with my 9700.  And that stupid card has given me headaches since I got an LCD.  So driver incompatibility used to make my screen go black all the time.  It would then revert to normal (maybe!).  But there were many times I had to shutdown by the keyboard and disconnect the DVI cable to get it to work again.  And the LCD is a Samsung so it's not cheap.
I broke down the other night and when I had to reinstall WinXP from scratch I reverted to an older GF4.  This morning I ordered a Geforce 6800, and it will "upgrade" fine.  But if I tried to go from an ATI to an Nvidia I would have had to reload my OS again.    So it worked out for me.
But it's strange that switching video cards solved all my "issues".  That and the fact that I've never really like ATI's drivers means I will never get another of their cards.

  • Can't Install ATI Video Drivers on Bootcamp with Windows 7 64-bit

I've just installed Windows 7 64-bit under Bootcamp but can't seem to get any ATI Graphics drivers to install. I ran into the common blank-screen problem during installation and temporarily solved that by deleting atikmdag.sys from within Lion. At the moment W7 runs with 640x800 resolution (pretty chunky on a 27" screen!). The ATI Catalyst software just doesn't run at all (i.e click on it and nothing happens). I've used DriverSweeper to force remove all drivers and start again but every time I reboot, Windows automatically reinstalls the default driver that seems to be causing the problem in the first place!
For reference, here are iMac specs:
    iMac 27" w/ OS X Lion 10.7.2
    2.8Ghz Intel Core i7
    4GB 1067Mhz DDR3 RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • OTA Update 4.08.605.2 "Rebooting Now..." Issue - SOLVED!

After so many tries and frustration I finally came across the information below and it worked like a charm
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-droid-incredible/134246-second-gb-update-patch-wont-reboot-issue-solved.html
Can't say this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.
    Boot into recovery
Press and hold Power, Choose "Restart" option
When screen turns off, press and hold Volume Down and Power
When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
Using the volume button, scroll down to “Wipe cache partition” and select it.
    Select "Reboot system now"
You can now wait for the update to show up again, or try one of the methods in the post: For those who want the second GB update/patch to get the update again. It should reboot this time. Beware, it will stay at the Droid Eye screen after reboot for a while (~5 mins), but eventually, it did get installed. Be sure to make a lot of space for it though...

The restart option that AmDroid is talking about is not on the regular phone menu. Please read his post carefully. What he is talking about is in an advanced recovery based menu option.
Also, I was on 2.2 and the clear cache set date and time forward trick did not work for me to get the udpate. The clear cache and set date and time forward trick seems to mostly work if you are already on 4.06 software version and want to get the 4.08 software version.
For those on 2.2, patience is warranted! However, if you really cant wait and want to go the 4.06 update manually, you can search Android Forums dot com for manually install gingerbread. And don't worry about the article talking about being rooted. You dont need to be rooted. The instructions will work for a stock phone too. As soon as you do the manual 4.06, the 4.08 update will show up immediately.
    Hope this helps!

  • Using Linux with Nvidia binary drivers, how do I enable WebGL in Firefox 8?

I've heard it is possible to use WebGL in firefox 8 for linux if using Nvidia binary drivers, but I haven't found a succinct recipe. can someone point me to a working recipe?
    thanks!

You have a WebGL renderer listed on the Help > Troubleshooting Information page:
    WebGL Renderer: NVIDIA Corporation -- GeForce 9800 GT/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW! -- 3.3.0 NVIDIA 280.13
You can check the values of the webgl prefs on the about:config page via the location bar.

What language are you talking about? You might need to enable Edit/Preferences/Type/Middle Eastern and South Asian for proper display.

  • IMac Intel Core Duo and ATI Video Drivers

I was wondering if the latest ATI Catalyst drivers are compatible with the X1600 that comes in the Intel Core DUO iMacs. I wasn't sure if the driver needed to come from apple or not

Nope. The latest Catalyst drivers 6.X are not compatible with the iMac vid card. You need the driver on the disc that Bootcamp install creates. It's a ver 8.x driver made especially for our Radeon Mobility x1600's.

since the cursor used through the proprietary catalyst driver have issues, use instead the SW cursor,

    Option "SWCursor" "true"

  • [SOLVED] ATI Catalyst Driver Issues

I'm sure issues with these drivers get posted often, but I'm honestly not entirely sure how to search for this.  I installed the base system with no issues, but when it came to adding a DE, I had some issues.  I tried several times to install the catalyst drivers for my radeon hd 6800.  I installed from the official repository using:
    #pacman -S catalyst-dkms catalyst-utils
I had no luck starting X server after that so I tried installing from Vi0l0's unnoficial repository.  This caused X Server to seg fault every time I attempted to start it.
I'm a little confused on how I am even using gnome at this point considering I have not successfully installed a graphics driver.
I blacklisted radeon and uninstalled catalyst and somehow was able to start X Server.  I'm obviously using a lame driver considering every time I move a console window around it moves at around 2 FPS.
How can I successfully install the proprietary fglrx/catalyst drivers?

  • [SOLVED] Artifacts with EXAPixmap ON and KMS with ATI OSS drivers

I had some problems for many months on my Arch Linux installation and I couldnt figure out what was causing it, so, because I found the sollution, I wanted to post it here and share it with you.
I, like others, was experiencing huge artifacts with KMS and EXAPixmaps on, on various cases, visuals and textures. After fiddling with all radeon options in xorg.conf and KMS on/off I found out thats its best for me to have KMS on (I couldnt play wine games otherwise) and EXAPixmaps off. But then again, when EXAPixmaps was off, I had poor 2D performance with KMS on, Xrender acceleration wasnt working and was falling back to software engine. Solution came from something that was brought to my attention in this topic. I ve set ARGB visuals off, raster engine for rendering and tried EXAPixmaps on.
It worked! Everything are as they supposed to be. Xrender engine and composite manager are finally working, no more artifacts. Framebuffer memory on my radeon card was somehow cleared. I then later found out an awkward solution on how to clear it by demand... Start X with vesa driver... then fix again xorg.conf back to radeon driver and reboot.
Now I have both 2D and 3D acceleration, I am logged in with KDE and have good performance. My glxgears output is 1000 to 1150 fps (vsync off) and I am using Xrender for the KDE desktop effects.
EDIT: I must clarify that I have an ATI Radeon 9200 Mobility M9+ (R200 serries)

I 've made some more edits and this is my current xorg.conf
    http://pastebin.com/x6ubG80K
I have ColorTiling set on for performance, be careful as it may be resource hungry in 3D apps but it increases dramatically fps.
You can try setting off EXAPixmaps as well and see how it goes, but then you ll have poor 2D performance and yet videos will play just fine either way.

  • [SOLVED] kms, xf86-video-ati: direct rendering issues

    Hi,
Quite possible I'm doing something completely wrong, but how to enable direct rendering on an r500 chip (x1400 mobility radeon) with kms enabled?
I let the module be loaded early (-> mkinitcpio) and have radeon.modeset=1 in my grub-menu.lst. kernel mode setting works, the x-server starts (in contrast to when having modeset=0, then Xorg segfaults due to libglx) and in the Xorg.0.log when looking for DRI, it tells me that the modules dri, dri2 and glx are all properly loaded. Nevertheless, glxgears is damn slow as well as glxinfo telling me that direct rendering is not enabled.
Using the git versions of xf86-video-ati and libdrm didn't change the bahaviour.
    package versions:
    kernel 2.6.36.2-1
    mesa 7.9-1
libdrm-git (from a few minutes ago)
xf86-video-ati-git (from a few minutes ago)
xorg.conf: there's no difference in having LoadModule "dri", "dri2" in the Module-Section or having Option "DRI" "on" in the Device section or not having any xorg.conf at all.
Any ideas? or is dri up and running and glxgears just sucks and glxinfo doesn't show the correct information?

    you have to install ati-dri
and BTW, you should not use libdrm-git if you don't planning compile mesa yourself. libdrm in arch repo is new enough.

  • [SOLVED] Steam not working or installing well and AMD drivers issues

Well, I figured this was the place to post.
I just installed Arch in my main box. Since I tried to install steam from the repos using pacman but i got the 'package not found'.
So I downloaded from the mirror in the official arch repos.
Then i was going to run steam (that's in /usr/bin/steam) and the script couldnt find a file that was just next door. Thing was, the script couldnt find a file next door cause it will try to find it from / . I added /home/[myuser] .
I changed the code sightly to my directory so it will find the .xz file.
Then, the client apparently installed (since it created a .steam  dir) but it did not appear on the screen. I tried running it from .steam, but i get absolutely nothing.
Also, looking at the script, the installation should have created a desktop icon and, it did not. So its possible that the installation itself is not working.
Since I make this thread (and since i have your attention) , I want to post another problem that may be, maybe lagging my XFCE interface.
Its the AMD drivers for my 6950 cards. I saw that the drivers ran with good performance on one of the games I like, so I tried to install them.
Weirdly, they didnt (couldnt run a module at the ending) ... it thre an error saying that there were problems with the installation. I wasnt running X, and no drivers were previously installed.. but I booted into X and it worked, and also I can see the signature saying 'Testing use Only' from AMD at the bottom.

And this sounds like you don't know how to install Arch packages.
and also I can see the signature saying 'Testing use Only' from AMD at the bottom.
Um. Where did you get that driver? Because this thing is so old, AMD does not do the watermark thing anymore.
I did pacman -Sy , why it still cant find it?
Got the driver from the page, its a beta driver.. You sure? Im triying to reinstall but i still get an error.
    Please, enlighten me.
