i've installed xf86-video-ati, ati-dri, mesa and linux-firmware.
if i have a radeon entry in my mkinitcpio.conf or a entry in my /etc/modules-load.d/modules.conf, i get acceleration not enabled:

any ideas anyone?
thanks for your help

cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
# vim:set ft=sh
# MODULES
# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
# run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
# in this array. For instance:
# MODULES="piix ide_disk reiserfs"
MODULES=""
# BINARIES
# This setting includes any additional binaries a given user may
# wish into the CPIO image. This is run last, so it may be used to
# override the actual binaries included by a given hook
# BINARIES are dependency parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
BINARIES=""
# FILES
# This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
# as-is and are not parsed in any way. This is useful for config files.
# Some users may wish to include modprobe.conf for custom module options
# like so:
# FILES="/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf"
FILES=""
# HOOKS
# This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
# modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
# Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
# order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
# help on a given hook.
# 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
# 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
# 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES
# Examples:
## This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
## No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.
# HOOKS="base"
## This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should
## work as a sane default
# HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems"
## This is identical to the above, except the old ide subsystem is
## used for IDE devices instead of the new pata subsystem.
# HOOKS="base udev autodetect ide scsi sata filesystems"
## This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
## No autodetection is done.
# HOOKS="base udev pata scsi sata usb filesystems"
## This setup assembles a pata mdadm array with an encrypted root FS.
## Note: See 'mkinitcpio -H mdadm' for more information on raid devices.
# HOOKS="base udev pata mdadm encrypt filesystems"
## This setup loads an lvm2 volume group on a usb device.
# HOOKS="base udev usb lvm2 filesystems"
## NOTE: If you have /usr on a separate partition, you MUST include the
# usr, fsck and shutdown hooks.
HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata encrypt filesystems usbinput fsck"

  • GPU acceleration disabled after loading image

I recently purchased Photoshop CS6. I've installed on Windows 7 and run updates. I've also today updated my graphics drivers to latest version (catalyst 12.8). I have an AMD Radeon HD 7700 which has 1024MB RAM. This card is on the list of supported cards.
When I first load Photoshop I can look in "Preferences -> Performance" and see that the GPU has been detected correctly and 'Use Graphics Processor' is ticked.
However after loading any image, including using "File -> New" to open an blank white image, the GPU is disabled. Looking back in "Preferences -> Performance" it tells me:
"no gpu options available with photoshop standard"
What can I do about this?

I have notified AMD.  It wouldn't hurt for you to do so as well - the more people who report problems with using Photoshop to them the more likely they are to take Photoshop users seriously, rather than just worrying about gamers.

  • Missing Renderer - GPU Acceleration Disabled

    Hi.
I've been having a problem with premiere lately. When I create new project, the render settings are set for CUDA GPU acceleration. I have no issues while editing the project or when rendering preview files. However, once I save the project, quit premiere, and then later re-open the project, I am presented with the dialog "Missing Renderer" - "This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration, CUDA, which is either not available, or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."
After this message, my timeline opens completely unrendered. I've attempted to change the project setting and reselect GPU Acceleration as the renderer, but the dropdown box is disabled in the project settings menu.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Computer Specs:

NVIDIA GeForce 710M with 1GB Dedicated RAM
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Do you have dual graphics adapters?
Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound and then select Device Manager... In Device manager you click the + sign to the left of Display Adapters... and see if 2 are listed

  • GPU Acceleration disabled even with latest drivers

I´m trying to enable GPU acceleration, but even with the latest drivers it wont enable.
Note that this is with AMDs Legacy driver for Windows 8 x64. The card is a 4870x2.
Firefox wants a higher driver number then 12.8 but in CCC it states that my driver version is 13.1.

hello, there seems to be a different technical driver naming scheme by amd for radeon HD 2/3/4000 series graphic cards (their latest driver version is 13.1 which translates to the technical version 8.97.100.7) & hd 5/6/700 cards (13.4, which translates to 12.104.0.0).
due to crashes triggered by older driver versions firefox is blocking all cards below version 9.10.8.0 for HWA - i don't think it is possible to differentiate these blocks for certain card models (since there are too many of them)...
you could try to circumvent the blocklisting like it is described at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting/Blocked_Graphics_Drivers#How_to_force-enable_blocked_graphics_features though.

  • 694d pro w/ ati 9700 pro radeon, black screen

i have the latest bios and chipset drivers installed, ati said that that this would fix the problem, it did not. does anyone know how to fix this problem. it goes through the win xp loading screen and then a black screen and my monitor shuts off

  • Is the Flash player GPU acceleration supported on the ATI Radeon X1900 XT?

Anyone know if Flash player 11.1.102.55 GPU acceleration is supported on the ATI Radeon X1900 XT? I didn't see it explicitly listed in the unsupported hardware list (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/921/cpsid_92103.html). The card is not displaying any of the stage 3D content unless I disable hardware acceleration. I get the same results whether I use Firefox, Chome, or Safari.
    I'm on a Mac, my system specs are;
    Processor  2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory  2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
Graphics  ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)
If I need to I'll replace the card but I want to make sure it's the issue before I do.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have an X1950 pro and am trying to get it to help out with youtube videos.
The latest X**** driver was released in 2010, and the original driver at the very earliest March 2009. Both the X1900XT and X1950 Pro are not listed on that list.
However, I do recall feeling Flash player 11 being slightly faster than Flash 10 when I first installed it. Flash still didn't become "10x" faster and 720p through 1080p video certainly still isn't smooth.

  • Updated ATI Radeon HD 5450

I have a HPE - 350t using Windows 7 and I recently installed an update for the  ATI Radeon HD 5450. Since then the video and audio on my computer system is not working. When I ran the diagnostics I had an Abnormal Exit on both the Primary Surface Test and the Color Line Test. On the Video Memory Test on got the a Internal Error message : Structured Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION Stack Trace: stack trace functionality is not implemented for 64 bit.(end stack trace) Stack Trace: !!! Stack Trace exceptions not supported in 64-bit. !!!
So now what do I do? If HP sent me the install how do I undo it?

    Wofatswife, welcome to the forum.
When requesting help you should always include the make/model (i.e. p6-xxxx) of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.
You say the audio and video are not working.  Can you see the screen?

  • Graphic card ATI RADEON HD 5450 and EMPIRE TOTAL WAR

    I've installed EMPIRE TOTAL WAR
I plaied some days, but suddenly now I've a video problem and when start a game the video is not ok.
It is very strange, I'v plaied some days, but now, nothing.
I have an ATI RADEON HD 5450
    What is the possible problem?
    Thanks for every help
    Paolo, form Italy

Paolo, the first thing that I would do is install the latest patch for the game.  Next, install the latest software suite from ATI; Catalyst Control Center.  This will allow you to control the fan speed of the video card.  If this doesn't solve your problem, let us know.

  • ATI Radeon HD4870, not used with motion as GPU acceleration

Hi, I have a problem with my setup. Motion does not use my ATI card for GPU acceleration.
So a simple project on my new mac with this card, is much, much slower than my macbookpro with Nvidia GeForce 9400M, or my old edit machine that has a Radeon X1900 on a macPro 3GHz.
And the atMonitor utility shows good use of GPU on these machines, but on my new machine with ATI HD 4870 card, the GPU is never used in motion.... So what is wrong with my HD4870 card.
    /Helge

Motion uses the GPU to do all its heavy lifting, I'm not sure how accurately the atMonitor software reflects this, nor how taxing your project is. CPU is used to perform the math, but the GPU does all the image manipulation.

  • For All The ATI Radeon9600 Pro users only.

If you are an owner of a built by ATI Radeon 9600pro card then you should take some interest in this post.
Some of you may know of the modifications you can do to the Radeon 9500 non-pro and turning it into a 9700 Pro.  By installing the bios of a 9700 into the bios of a 9500 you will fool the computer into making it run as a 9700 pro.  The idea was that the board layout and GPU core of the 9500 and 9700 were identical to each other that the only deference was the bios.  Same micron cores, but only the 9500 was underclocked via the bios.  The quality control team at ATI would test the GPU cores for 9700 performance standards and the ones that fell slightly short were used on some OEM 9500 boards.  So doing the bios mod one would achieve, in most cases, 9700 results.  A voltage mod would remedy any GPU that couldn't handle the load.
ATI caught wind of this and soon introduced the 9600 and 9800 Radeon series.  How ever, you can still modify the 9600 to a lesser degree.  On the Built By ATI 9600 pro cards, you will notice a template for a FDD power connector.  You can attach an FDD connector to it and will achieve higher overclocking on this card.  The reason is simple, more power to the ram and GPU, the more MHz it can handle.  The default speeds of the 9600 pro are 400GPU/300RAM.  Most boards are reaching 500/345 with out the FDD mod.  With the FDD mod you can expect a minimum of 10%, but most results are higher.  The 9600 Pro uses a smaller micron core then anything out today, so there is a lot of headroom for overclocking with heat being less of an issue.  If you are brave enough to try it, I'm sure you will be impressed with your efforts.  I will post my benchtests after I deal with my MOBO issues.
P.S.  The FDD mod will only work on the revision 1 Built By ATI Radeon 9600 Pro.  These are better also because they use 2.8ns ram as compared to 3.3ns on rev. 2's.

    I'm going crazy!!!
I'm not sure if the problem is the graphics card which is the one mentioned.
Because my computer's performance is slower than ever:
    * When I restart it takes quite a while to open any aplication.
    * Video freezes during playback (playback doesn't stop, but the image does)
    * Rendering with Final Cut, Photoshop and Maya is way slower than my old Pc's.
Even when all system software is up to date nothing fixes this problems.
I tried a couple of times reinstalling the hole system but those problems remain intact.
Does anybody knows if this could be fixed with an specific codec or with a different graphic card????
Has some of this issues happened to you????

hey guys. i need to upgrade my video card to accomodate the 30" cinema display. im pretty sure my current graphics card is the ATI R9000 Pro.
can someone PLEASE tell me which current card is the BEST out there for my computer? im having a really hard time distinguishing the best...

    Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums!
There is currently only one BEST solution for your situation available for a Mac G5 2.0 AGP. It is the The RADEON X800 XT Mac Edition with ADC and DVI Dual Link connectors. As seen here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435317/
This gives you a Dual Link DVI connector for the 30" ACD.
The remaining ADC port can be converted to DVI output for your 20" LCD with this:
Belkin F2E9142 Apple Monitor Adapter (ADC to DVI)
    As seen here:

  • Mac Pro GPU Accelerator

Premiere CS3 and AE are not fast at all at rendering. I believe this is because its rendered on the CPU. A few questions on this..
    - I heard final cut uses the GPU to render, is this true?
    - In premiere is there a way to switch to GPU rendering, not just "GPU Acceleration" which doesn't seem to do much.
    - Is this technology simply just too new?
    - I have the ati radeon 1900xt. Would I benefit from a newer card? Or would that allow pure GPU rendering? Is it a matter of having a different graphics card, or is it software settings, drivers, etc. that hold back the GPU for video renders?
I also saw this, http://elementaltechnologies.com/products.php?id=5 is this the only way?

    Notice this in that link:
*NVIDIA Quadro* graphics processing unit (GPU)
    However,
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 Featuring a massive 1.5GB frame buffer of GDDR3 memory, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 is the ultimate workstation-level graphics card. It’s ideal for industrial-strength 3D design work, modeling, animation, and stereo 3D visualization. One of the most advanced graphics cards available, it has an integrated stereo 3D port, so you can use stereo goggles for stereo-in-a-window visualization applications. With two dual-link DVI ports, you can connect two 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays. - Apple Store
The Quadro FX 5600 ($2700) does feature more video memory (1.5GB vs 512MB). And, according to one Maya guru, the extra memory (and superior memory management code) of the Quadro workstation cards becomes useful for frame buffering in Maya. This is especially true for redraw of multiple views of the same complex 3D model.
This has been enhanced further by Quadro FX 5600's new integrated memory allocation which allows the card to dynamically allocate on-board RAM to whatever task is at hand rather than have specific hard wired allocations. So rather than say a maximum of 40% of total on-board RAM dedicated to the texture buffer the card can ramp up and down from 80% sharing with the immediate needs of the other buffers. http://www.barefeats.com/york2.html
    *Radeon 3870* (requires 10.5.3+)compared to X1900
    http://www.barefeats.com/harper16.html
Other things to look at that you can do:
More RAM, faster drives and scratch RAID, updating to 10.5.4 (the Radeon 3870 and Nvidia 8800GT both require 10.5.3+).
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401089
    http://homepage.mac.com/boots911/.Public/PhotoshopAccelerationBasics2.4W.pdf
The GTX 280 or Radeon HD 4870 X2, (Windows only, don't work in OS X due to lack of EFI firmware).
ATI has optimized their Mac Edition drivers and firmware for the Radeon 2600 XT and 3870 so that they run Core Image effects much faster than comparable nVidia cards including the GeForce 8800 GT and Quadro FX 5600.
    http://www.barefeats.com/harper19.html
GPGPU will probably see more use in the future. Adobe plans to add such a feature to the next version for Windows ("*CS4 Stonehenge*") http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/37643/128/

  • Any recommendations for a new Graphics card for Prem Pro 2014 (Windows) that offers Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration?

    Hi.
I am led to believe I could benefit from GPU acceleration when editing as my PC is a little under spec. I do have a card but when I switch to GPU acceleration it does work but every time I stop moving / playing / scrubbing on the timeline the preview screen goes black.
I am not sure which might be the best card to obtain for my reqs. I dont think I put the biggest of demands on the software but it does still struggle. Most of my editing is 3 - 10 min long interviews. 2 camera multi-cam editing. I invariably have need to edit RGB curves, three way colour corrector, transitions and sometimes Neat noise reduction. Any of those leaves my PC struggling. All the usual titles, music & voice-overs etc but nothing too heavy going like making films or inserting lots of video lines.
I also do an occasional bit of work in After effects too.
    PC spec is:
Intel Xeon CPU 1.86GHz (2 processors)
12GB RAM which I am going to upgrade to 16GB
    64 bit op system
    Windows 7
    Radeon HD 5450 graphics card.
Any guidance would be much appreciated

Thanks for insight. I am not technical but I suspect your right about the base technology of my PC. The processors and RAM (even if I upgrade) are probably too limited. I was not so sure about the relationship between the main processor and the graphic card. I rather hoped that the card would get round the limitations of the CPU's.
I maybe need to invest some time looking in to improving the spec of my PC. Any thoughts on a suitable spec from anyone would be helpful bearing in mind my relatively narrow editing needs.
Even so I will look at the GTX 660 and see what it might offer. The only reason I thought the 5450 might offer GPU acceleration was because the option was available to select in the preferences in PremPro. Figured it wouldn't be an option otherwise. Certainly doesnt seem to work correctly or offer any advantage so gone back to software only.
This is not going to be a quick or inexpensive resolution by the looks of it :-)
    Thanks again for input.
