ATI Driver AUR package Catalyst-Utils libgl conflict?
Hey guys I tried installing the Catalyst-Utils b/c the Catalyst build needs the Catalyst-Utils as a dependency. Making the Catalyst-Utils package went fine, but when installing it I got this error.
bash-4.0$ sudo pacman -U catalyst-utils-9.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
loading package data...
checking dependencies...
error: replacing packages with -U is not supported yet
error: you can replace packages manually using -Rd and -U
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: catalyst-utils: conflicts with libgl
bash-4.0$
Is it b/c of the opensource radeonhd drivers that I have working? Thank you for you help guys!
I installed the catalyst one as well, but I am having a problem, upon reboot, my comp is still using the radeonhd drivers. I looked in my xorg.conf and it shows that I am still using the radeonhd drivers. How do I change it so that it uses the catalyst drivers?

The post I linked to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1330764 says
You're doing an update and something is trying to install mesa-libgl which conflicts with the already installed nvidia-libgl.
Find out which package is it.
In your case it conflicts with catalyst-utils, not with nvidia-libgl.
You cant deny that they are really similiar, I didnt note, my bad.
How can I find that package?
I cannot remove catalyst-utils, as I need to use that..
Yes, I knew it conflicted with catalyst-utils that why I made a new thread. In that thread it got solved by waiting. For me, Im having this problem since some days, and now I got some time to post here and try to fix it.

Catalyst driver & aur question
Hi there!
First I must say i'm totaly new in arch world. I have ATI Radeon HD3430 graphics card and want to install catalyst driver (moved from official repos to aur) but have had no luck so far. I red wiki but i just cant figure out how to install that. Can i get some help about it? Tnx in advance!
Edit: For now i have open source ati driver installed.
Last edited by Cracker (2009-04-24 10:06:39)Cracker wrote:OK, but do i need to do some extra configuration, or this is it? Do i have to uninstall my old ati driver (the open source one)?
Yes, you will have to remove xf86-video-ati and also probably libgl, and possibly other packages that conflict with the catalyst driver and catalyst-utils packages. I'm not sure if there's a more elegent way to do this, but I recently switched from the Catalyst driver to the ATI driver and I did:
pacman -Rsc catalyst catalyst-utils
which uninstalled something like 10gigs worth of programs, did
pacman -S xorg xf86-video-ati
then reinstalled all my other old programs, just don't clean you're pacman cache before re-installing or you'll be downloading stuff forever. -
[SOLVED]Swapping from xf86-video-ati driver to catalyst
Hey everyone,
So as the title implies, I need some help on this. I tried doing a pacman -R xf86-video-ati, then setting my xorg over to vesa as the driver prior to installing the catalyst driver. That part went fine. Installed catalyst which updated my xorg accordingly. Rebooted, and X won't load. So per ATI's instructions, I removed the catalyst driver, reloaded, did a new xorg - configure and worked my way back to xf86-video-ati.
I would really like to get catalyst going. Where did I screw up on my first attempt? I saw somewhere on the forum that you can actually get 3d working with the xf86 driver, but I forgot to bookmark that thread lol. Here's a copy of my current xorg if it helps at all.

It's not Xorg that is the issue. It's the Catalyst drivers, they only support up to Xorg 1.6.
So you will have to downgrade Xorg in order to use them.
I'm using the xf86-video-ati drivers myself on Xorg 1.7 with a HD4850, 2D works fine. Xv and especially 3D is a no-go so far, but my system has been running for just a day now, so i'm still setting up lots of things.
In the new kernel (2.6.32) there is KMS support for the Radeon HD3xxx and HD4xxx series. I'm hoping that will get the drm module working (fails to initialize over here), and i'm hoping that will bring me at least Xv support, so I can watch videos properly. The open-source ati driver does support it.
So if you can wait for that kernel to move from testing to core, that's what I would do before jumping into the Xorg 1.6 and Catalyst "jungle".
[Edit]
I got Xv working by disabling KMS tries by the kernel, using "nomodeset" in my kernel boot line.
OpenGL attempts (even glxgears) crashes

[SOLVED]Weird conflict with official packages and aur packages
Hi. I have enchant-zemberek installed on my system. It is my package that i'm maintaining at AUR. Yesterday i tried to install poedit which depends on enchant. Weirdly altoguh enchant-zemberek provides enchant; pacman tried to remove enchant-zemberek and instead install enchant. Otherwise it won't let me install poedit. I have updated enchant-zemberek PKGBUILD and pacman let me install poedit without forcing me to install enchant. Here is what i have in my first PKGBUILD before update:
replaces=("enchant")
provides=("enchant")
conflicts=('enchant')
And after updating;
replaces=("enchant=${pkgver}")
provides=("enchant=${pkgver}")
conflicts=('enchant')
Now, i'm wondering while an AUR package have different package name than the official one why pacman tries to replace it? Why PKGBUILD needs package version in provides tag? Say, if i want to keep my own my-abc-1.0-1.i686.pkg.tar.xz but official package abc-1.1-1.i686.pkg.tar.xz released; must i keep my package only in Ignores array? Should i report this as a bug?
Last edited by tarakbumba (2011-04-07 09:52:41)No, its not a bug. poedit depends on gtkspell which depends on enchant>=1.5.0 - your original custom enchant package did not provide any specific version of enchant, so pacman pulled in the repo package instead to satisfy the versioned dependency. As you have built your package with replaces=enchant, pacman also honours that.

ATI Driver Package GCC4 Problem
Hi,
I'm following this tutorial to build an ATI driver package, but I'm getting these errors:
/var/abs/local/ati-drivers/src/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/nvidia-agp.c:57: error: static declaration of '__fgl_agp_try_unsupported' follows non-static declaration
/var/abs/local/ati-drivers/src/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/agp_backend.h:92: error: previous declaration of '__fgl_agp_try_unsupported' was here
After googling around, the problem seems to be with GCC versions (I'm using 4.0.1, the driver probably uses 3.x.x). Then this post pointed me to a patch. Pardon my ignorance, but how do I use this patch? Or are there any other options available?
Thanks!
WillI saved it as a .patch file in {driver dir}/src/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod and it works!

Problem Getting Proprietary ATI driver
Hello once again Arch Linux, after going through the "easy" (but definitely rewarding) setup of Arch Linux in general, it's time to get some entertainment! But first, I've run into yet another problem. This one I'm not sure I can fix on my own, so here it goes...
So, as the title says, I'm trying to install the proprietary driver for ATI video cards (catalyst). I have it set up in my mirrorlists folder to be able to download them (as I can *get* the error message), I've done
pacman -Syu
And now when I do
pacman -Ss catalyst
I get:
catalyst/catalyst 11.10-1
AMD/ATI Catalyst drivers for linux. fglrx kernel module only
catalyst/catalyst-daemon 11.10-1
AMD/ATI drivers. Auto re-compile the fglrx module (while system's start) if
kernel was updated
catalyst/catalyst-generator 11.10-1
AMD/ATI drivers. Generator of catalyst-{kernver} packages with fglrx module
inside
catalyst/catalyst-hook 11.10-1
AMD/ATI drivers. Auto re-compile the fglrx module when kernel update
(mkinitcpio's hook)
catalyst/catalyst-utils 11.10-1
AMD/ATI Catalyst drivers utilities and libraries.
catalyst/lib32-catalyst-utils 11.10-1 (lib32)
AMD/ATI catalyst driver utilities and libraries. (32-bit)
catalyst/xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix 1.10.4-1 (xorg)
X.Org X servers with backclear patch that fix slow maximizing and resizing
with catalyst. xorg-server + xorg-server-common + xorg-server-devel
So I can download it. Now passing where I'm in my comfortable realm.
After I do
# pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils
I get this error:
resolving dependencies...
warning: dependency cycle detected:
:: xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix and xf86-input-evdev are in conflict (xorg-server<1.10.99.902). Remove xf86-input-evdev? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: xorg-server-catalyst-maximize-fix: requires xf86-input-evdev
So from what I can tell this is in a loop.
I've searched on both the wiki *and* the forum, but I couldn't find anything. (Time to get embarresed by someone who posts a wiki link ).
So now I come here to ask my own question, have any ideas how I could fix this and install my proprietary driver?
Thank you

I got this too today when I ran a system update, I use catalyst-daemon from AUR.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. -
Can't upgrade AUR packages after removal of /var/lib/pacman/local
Hi guys, i accidentally deleted the content of /var/lib/pacman/local but fortunately i restored it following the wiki.
But, in this way, i only restored base packages and so no one of the packages i've installed from AUR is shown in the list of the installed packages....i thought to install them again one by one, but installation is not successful because files already exist and, beside this, i don't rember the name of all the AUR packages....
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Unless you have a backup of /var/lib/pacman/local, I think you're going to have to manually remove files provided by AUR packages, then reunstall them. Or you could try forcing the install (see man pacman), but take care not to break other packages in the process.
If it's useful to you, you can generate a list of files that pacman doesn't know about with:
find / -exec pacman -Qo -- {} + 2> /tmp/files >/dev/null
less /tmp/files
This will include cache files, user created files, etc. so don't just rm everything unowned by pacman.
That's what i thought to do but as i wrote i don't remember which are the aur packages, better still i remember just some of them...i tried your commands but i get a list of such strange things about cache etc...i can't see nothing concerning pacman....surely is a lack of mine....

Catalyst-Utils Build & Download Issues
On various occasions since last Thursday (May 14th 09) I've tried to install the ATI Catalyst blob from the AUR. Each time I've come up with this error. Cleared the tmp after each failed attempt as well.

Any suggestions on how to handle this, do I have to force the un-install .... seems like not a good way to proceed ..
As this is a laptop I use evey day, I don't want to break it .. :-0
Cheers,
Berniecatalyst-test is kinda old now, it's only updated when AMD is releasing ubuntu beta driver with fresh xserver support ;P
please:
# pacman -Rd catalyst-test
and install newest catalyst and catalyst-utils packages
And yes, wiki is a good place to find extra infos and candies

Java/ATI driver issue with Minecraft on ArchLinux 64-bit
I am having an issue with Java on ArchLinux. I think it has something to do with my graphics drivers. I have an Alienware M17x R2. Here are my specs:
Intel Core i7 940XM
8GB 1333MHz RAM
Dual ATI 5870M in CrossFireX
ArchLinux 64-bit
I am using the open source ATI drivers (xf86-video-ati) and everything (ex. desktop compositing) is significantly faster than when I was running catalyst. I get an error when I launch minecraft though. It happens when I launch in the web browser and the jar. I also downloaded the AUR package which is essentially the same as the jar file with a shell script in the bin folder. I have also tried both OpenJDK6 and Oracle JDK/JRE and it happens on both. I have also tried replacing the lwjgl jars and putting the 64 bit so files in /opt/java/lib and renaming them to resemble the 32-bit filenames. Here is the console output from minecraft:

Thanks,
JoeyHas anyone had any luck with this? I just got a set of 5. speakers to go with my sb li've! 5. card on xp x64, and ran into the same problem... it works fine on 32-bit, but I got a 64-bit processor for a reason and hate the fact that I can't have my surround working just because I'm using a 64-bit operating system. It'd be nice if Creative would get their act together and do something about all of these problems I'm seeing on the forums...

Open source ati driver -- garbled graphics
I'm trying to run an openGL game (Uplink-demo) with the open source ati driver, but I just get strange garbled graphics. It's not the card or the game either -- I installed opensuse 10.2 on this same box the other day and had no problems running the game. Even XGL worked surprisingly. But opensuse is a pig next to Arch though so I'm hoping for a fix Here is the result:
Help! :S
BTW, I can't run the closed source fglrx driver because my card is no longer supported (Radeon 9000, rv250 chipset). The legacy drivers ATI provides don't seem to install with Xorg 7.2.

Nope, no dice. By any chance, does this game load ok for you?

If you tried the fglrx package first did you reinstall libgl or is it libdri? The exact one is in the wiki something having to do with them being the same name but different internally so one is downloaded based on which driver you have...or something like that.
Also do you have the right mesa? This is am totally guessing you do have. But I received weird issues once very similar to yours when I tried to do things with out mesa...
Well, I've never installed fglrx on this box since I already knew about the incompatibility regarding ati cars older than r300. So that's taken out of the equation. Is there a different mesa? I only see one in the packages.
On a whim, I decided to try a fresh install of Arch. I installed xorg, xf86-video-ati, and gnome + extras -- I basically got the same result. So it's either something missing in my xorg config or I'm missing some gl lib. I hope. Dunno
Thanks for the replies guys!
