ATI HD 5770 Display port won't work

Hi, I'm running Mac Pro mid-2010 on OS10.9.5 with 2-monitor setup.  Recently both the display ports went dead.  The DVI port works fine.  I tried to switch monitors but still not working.  The Mac preference can only show 1 port and 1 monitor.  Is it the end of my HD 5770 card?  Please help.

These 6-pin cords are readily available for not much money, but the searches are toturous, often involving references to the G5. Like this one from Amazon (US):

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • T410s display port no longer works after lenovo / win7 upgrade

Arrggh...  I have a Dell u2711h monitor that i connected to my t410s via display port.   It worked fine until i did a lenovo driver updateand windows 7 update.   Now, it just goes into powersaving mode with the display port.   I backed out the windows7 updates, went back to a windows restore point from when i knew the dp worked, uinstalled / reinstalled the lenovo drivers for nvidia nvs 3100m optimus, audio, etc.
The HDMI cable works, the monitor works with display port off of another PC, but no longer on my t410s.   Anybody have any ideas?   I spent a lot of money getting a big monitor with a high resolution trhough dp, but now i can't use it.  Very fustrating.
    Any ideas?

  • Will thunder bolt display work off Ati 7970 mini display port?

Hay sorry if this has been done before, after reading a few threads i am still confused re compartiblity,
I have a MacPro 3.1 2x 3.2Ghz quad core, with an Ati 7970, it has a mini display port on it, will a 27inch thunderbolt display work of this? i understand that the thunder bolts on the back of the display will not? but also what about the usb's?

those displays now will be out of warranty and a good number have brightness issues over time.
False. The reported brightness issues are very rare. The 30" is one of the best displays ever sold by Apple. Find one for $700-800.
Both the ACD and TBD have the same glare issue as the pre-2012 iMacs. They were never updated to the direct lamination of the 2012-13 iMac screens.

  • Cinema Display 24" won't work with Mac Mini 3.1

I recently purchased a refurbished Apple LED Cinema Display 24" from a buddy.  I'm pairing it with my used Mac Mini 3.1 (2009?). The display port mini connections seem to match.  The USB is plugged in.  The only cable unused is the "macbook power" plug, from the display.  I know the display and CPU both work fine independently. Cinema display seems to power the USB and "Macbook power".  I just can't get any life out of the display.  These 2 devices should work together right?  Is there a sceret power-button that I don't know about?

The video cards that ship with the current Pro have one Display Port and one mini DVI port.
There is an adapter to connect a DVI monitor to a Display Port connection. There is no such thing as an adaptor that will let you connect a Display Port equipped monitor to a mini DVI port on the graphics card.
Final Cut Pro uses dual monitors connected to the same graphics card. Using a twin graphics card setup causes problems with FX Plug FCP plugins, which can cause FCP to fail to launch.
The solution is to find a Graphics card with dual Display Port connectors, (if one even exists) or replace it with a grahics card that uses dual DVI ports, such as the ATI 3870 HD. Of course, the latter means that you cannot connect two 24" Apple Cinema Displays.

  • T420s display port won't drive 2560x1600?

    Hi all,
Just received a T420s, udpating from a T410s. The T410s has the switchable graphics. When connected with a display port cable using a series 3 docking station, the old T410s will drive my Dell 3008 at its native 2560x1600 resolution without any trouble.
The new T420s will *not*, no matter what I do. Same cable, same monitor, same docking station, etc. The highest it will go is 2016 x 1000-something (writing from home and going by memory, sorry I don't know the exact numbers).
Any ideas? This is a real bummer as I really need the extra real estate. Every tech spec says it will do the right resolution, but it simply won't.. I don't even get the option in the NVIDIA control panel. It won't let me put in 2560x1600 as a custom resolution. Display driver appears up to date. As I've said, there's nothing wrong with the cable, monitor, connection.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Wanted to give everybody an update on this situation. Previously I indicated that the suggestion to change the BIOS to discrete graphics only fixed this problem. Turns out I spoke too soon - it seems that even with this setting, I only get native 2560x1600 resolution 25% of the time. Fiddling around with other settings did nothing, in the end I concluded that the discrete vs. optimus setting in the BIOS didn't do anything to help me - I just got lucky following the BIOS suggestion. There may be other things that correlate with this 25%, but I don't have time to track down what they might be.
I finally found a permanent solution by changing from the default Lenovo display driver to a beta NVS 4200M driver from the NVIDIA website. Installed this a couple of days ago and my system now goes into 2560x1600 every time it is placed in the dock.
I have not revisited the discrete vs. optimus setting in the BIOS, but will eventually. Regardless, I conclude there's a problem with the Lenovo NVS 4200M drivers. FYI, I was running the 8.17.12.6696 version for Win7 64bit. I am now running the 275.27 beta drivers from NVIDIA. Everything else seems stable with these drivers, including the hardcore 3D modeling application I use at high resolution.

  • I have a late 2010 MB Air (mini display port) and a new 2013 iMac (thunderbolt) which I would love to use as an external display. I suspect that target display mode won't work.Any ideas for how to achieve this?

According to the TDM support page, this isn't possible. I tried it with a Mnidisplay port to minidisplay port cable without success. Its a shame that thunderbolt doesn't appear to be backwards compable as I could have achieved this with an older iMac.
    Cheers

You are correct....it will not work. Please carefully read Apple's Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • USB ports won't work

Hi, I recently bought a Probook 4441s-445TX. I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on it but I couldn't get my 2 USB ports on the right side of my laptop to work. I looked into this and it seems like HP Probooks series have similar issue as well. The USB ports on the right (USB 2.0) don't work at all, they won't recognize any devices nor they can recharge any devices via USB cable.
Any suggestion? Am I missing a driver here (I checked Device Manager and it says I miss one driver but it's unknown device with Hardware ID "ACPI/HPQ6000" which I still couldn't find the driver for it, btw, but I don't think it has anything to do with the USB ports.

    Hi:
If the notebook is still under warranty, it is time for you to call HP technical support.
    Good luck,

  • Mail Client Crashing, Mac Messenger won't connect, 1 USB port won't work!!!

Any ideas on why my macbook pro has the above probs.....Wen I open mail and click on a message, Mal just crashes and gives me a message to relaunch. MSN won't connect no matter how many times i reinstall it and my son decided to unplug his Ipod from the usb port and now anything i plug into the port isn't recognised.......Pleeeeeeaaassseeeee Help!!!!! TY

Both cables (Cat5e and Cat6) that I used was tested with my WD live hub and worked at 1 Gbps. The Cat5e is not shielded and I'm fairly confident the Cat 6 cable is unshielded as well. I should mention at this point that I've made my own network patch leads for over 10 years now and my networking career started out using coax cables. I would say that I know what I'm doing and can concluded with 100% certainty that it is not the cables.
After installing Windows 7 through Bootcamp there is not even an option in the network adapter setting to set the speed any faster than 100 Mbps.
After going to my local Apple store (30 Km away in London!) the genius I spoke with suggested I book a slot and bring it in for them to test to determine if a new logic board should be ordered. I must be honest, I thought however I spoke with would treat me like an idiot and try and blame anything but the mac but she listened and agreed with my assessment and suggested I bring it it for a test.

  • Mid-2010 macbook pro mini display port to hdmi works only intermittently

I have a 13-inch mid-2010 MacBook Pro running OS X 10.10.2.  HDMI out from mini displayport to my Dynex TV only intermittently works.  The times that I have gotten it to work involves a combination of restarting the computer, unplugging the TV and plugging it back in, then plugging in the MDP adapter.  Now when I plug it in, the MacBook screen flashes black like it is trying to detect the external display, but no picture on the TV.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Mini display port - vga only works with lid closed - then computer goes to sleep

my problem is simple, but strange.
I have a 2009 unibody macbook pro. I have 42 in lcd tv. I have a minidisplay to vga adapter and a vga cable. When I try to connect the monitor to the mbp when the lid is open nothing is detected. I do not get any options to change to mirror mode or am able to change any settings regarding the monitor. I can change the resolution of the built in display only. Now for the twist.
If I connect everything, do a restart and close the lid, as the computer boots up the external monitor works. Its the grey boot screen with the apple logo. But as soon as the computer begins to load the desktop, the monitor losses the signal. At first I thought it was going into sleep mode, so I hooked up a usb mouse to keep the computer awake. I tried the process again, and as soon as it goes to the desktop it losses the signal. So I don't think it is sleep mode.
I downloaded the minidisplay prot firmware update, but because the screen is not detected when the lid is open I cant run it. When the lid is closed the computer either goes to sleep or doesn't send the desktop signal and I still cant run it.
Nothing happens if I change between the video cards (9400 and 9600gm). Is it a resolution issue? Do the vga cables have a max resolution that is lower than 1900 x 1200?
    What should I do? thanks

see all this time you DID have the info i was looking for:
"Do the vga cables have a max resolution that is lower than 1900 x 1200?"
    3 posts later
"The VGA displays Apple has typically in the past offered only had 1024 x 768 resolution at most."
im sorry I inticed you to giving me the information i needed, but i guess it was required. you have earned your 10 points today.

  • Old Cinema Display 22" won't work with DVI-ADC adapter & Mac Pro

So, I want to use my old 22" ADC Cinema Display with my new Mac Pro with the Radeon x1900 card.
And I was told to buy the DVI to ADC adapter, which I did.
But it doesn't work! The adapter powers up my monitor, and it shows up in the Display settings of system prefs, but the monitor remains DARK.
Anyone hear of this happening? I spent an hour with Apple Care phone support. They have no idea what to do.
Is the 22" (model #M8149) just not compatible with this adapter? I'd hate to have to buy a whole new monitor!

Yes, I tried re-setting the PRAM as well. Didn't work.
I've gone into the Monitor display settings and clicked "Detect Displays"...I've changed the Hz on the VGA monitor that I have plugged in simultaneously (a Gateway FPD1510). Not working.
As I mentioned, the computer does detect the monitor...it shows up in the Display Arrangement window and I can change its resolution, etc.
And the power light is on.
It's just that the screen in black.
Is this monitor just incompatible with this adapter?
Sounds like someone else is having this issue too, right?

  • Mac pro usb ports won't work when ipod is plugged in

I just bought a used Mac Pro (2008). 8 cores, 12 meg 0f ram, all of this so I wouldnt be limited as I was with my 4 meg Imac. I go to plug in my ipod, and none of the other ports work, I can't use the mouse or keyboard. Is there any way around this. I had to plug the ipod directly into the tower (the port wouldnt work) This is frustrating, I get this model to be more than capable for what I need, and something like this pops up...always something. If anyone out there has had this experience, and figured out a work around, please help. Thanks

okay, that doesn't sound usual. Sounds to me like the usb port is drawing too much power. Try doing a repair permission or SMC reset. If you are using it with a USB hub, maybe that needs plugging in to the wall, or maybe it has gone bad. I can't help you a lot, but just a little bit. repairing permissions is through Disk Utility. SMC goes like this:  shut down the Mac pro, unplug the power cord,  wait 15-20 seconds. reattach power cord, wait about 15 seconds, then press power button. you can maybe try resetting the PRAM-shut down Mac, turn on computer, hold down Command, Option,P and R keys before grey screen appears. Hold down until computer restarts again and you hear the 2nd startup sound. Let go of the keys.  You can also check in "About this mac" (more info) to see if there's something wrong with the USB ports themselves.
