ATI HD5770 Problem

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could help me solving a little problem that  I have with my newly purchased graphic card.... It's and ATI HD5770 i just can't get it working with the opensource driver xf86-video-ati the login manager just won't start up I'm using the vesa driver for now i just don't wanna install the catalyst driver...
By the way is that card supported by the opensource driver?
thanks

The reason why I didn't wanted to install the proprietary driver is because I was using the opensource one with my old graphic card and I was very satisfied with it... but since the series HD5XXX is not supported I've decided to install the proprietary and thank you for sharing your opinion about the catalyst driver And yes its working smoothly
Thank you once again

  • ATI HD5770 and 2008 Mac Pro - Only DVI Port works

I went through 4 ATI Radeon HD 2600 video cards since 2008. Enough is enough.  I bought a ATI HD5770 and i hope this is the end of it.
However, I have two monitors and I am unable to use the second monitor.
The main monitor is hooked into the DVIPort.  It is a 24" NEC.  The cable is a VGA to DVI.
I have another small 15" NEC monitor and I have a VGA to mini adapter into the mini port on the video card and it will not work.
I use both 10.5 and 10.8 on this machine and have no luck on either operating system.
When I plug into the mini port, the monitor in the DVI port tries to act as the second monitor yet the Mini port monitor will not turn on or activate.  To elaborate, the working monitor will switch from the startup monitor and display as if it were a 2nd screen.
    ideas?
    help?

yes. 'tis tricky. I'd say see if mirroring is turned on, but I suspect it is.  acorrding to apple, the monitor on the dvi port is fine. However, the 2nd one needs a mini displayport to VGA adapter. It ought  to be active, rather than passive. the DVI I'm presuming is a Dual link one?
apparently, there's a mini DP to vga adapter firmware update, found here:
About the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter firmware update - Apple Support
so, maybe give that a try

  • ATI HD5770 Performance Issue

I have a HD5770 card driving an Acer 22" monitor and my old HD2600XT powering another 17" IBM monitor. Everything works well, I think. I do alot of FCP and Logic stuff and play World of Warcraft, but I im not really seeing any performance increase from the 5770 to the 2600.
I ran Xbench on each card, and im actualy showing better performance on the 2600... Doesnt make since. WoW has framerate counters, and i really dont see any difference. It looks better with the 5770, but at the same in game setting on the old card, im getting the same frame rates. Just for **** and giggles, i removed the 2600 and ran xbench with just the 5770, and again, better performance number on the 2600. I was 1/2 tempted to grab a spare HD, and do a OS reinstall, but that seems kinda harsh. Granted my main HD is kinda slow, which im going to replace and do a clean install when 10.7 releases, but I still dont think thats the problem.
    This is a MacPro 3.1 with a quad core 2.8, 16gb ram, 500gb main HD, and 2 1.5tb drives.
    Any ideas?

Yeah, I know xbench is kinda old and i figured prolly not all that accurate anymore, but between that, and WoW, i really dont see any difference with the cards. Here is the info from the system profiler:

From what I can see it looks like they are files from a previous xf86-video-ati installation, although I've no idea why they would be there since I removed it cleanly. I was thinking perhaps I should just force the install?

  • Ati HD5770 - catalyst 10.x - no mouse pointer at all :|

    hallo.
i (was) using the old_xorg repo with the catalyst drivers. My hd5770 used to work pretty fine. Yesterday i did a pacman -Syu.
Since then, my mouse pointer disappeared (in Xorg.N.log there are no evidence of this). I tryed to start X without an actual WM/DM and the mouse pointer is still missing. This makes me suppose i have some glitch with xorg or ati drivers.
Does anyone incurred in this? Is it solvable?
I tryed to update xorg to a newer version (commenting hte xorg_old repo), but now i get nothing (X crashes).
Is there a way to remove X and all its libraries and start from a fresh point using the right xorg/driver version?
    I'm using arch64.
    Thanks!

  • Radeon ATI 4870 PROBLEM????

    Hey Everyone,
So I have a brand new MacPro with the Dual Quad 2.93 and 16GB of Ram, I have the ATI 4870 Card running along with my DeckLink HD Extreme 3 capture card. My question is that it seems like this graphics card is having trouble supporting my 30inchACD and TWO Samsung P2570HD's TOTAL OF 3 DISPLAYS, one of the Samsungs is connected via HDMI from my Decklink HD Ex and the other through MiniDisplay to DVI, I get weird issues like my mouse pointer freezing up and sometimes weird dropped frames in FCP7...can i or should i add another graphics card??? any solutions...MANY THANKS!!!!

Nice. 150 bucks for the converter. And its out of stock.
Luckily I found a much better solution... sold my 24inch cinema display on craiglist, and buy an ASUS VW266H for 280 bucks on amzn. Turns out the image quality on it is much better as well.
I'd highly recommend anyone to ditch their apple lcd for a higher quality lcd for a fraction of the cost. And leave these horrific compatibility problems behind you.

  • ATI Driver Problem - Encore CS5

    Hi All,
I have spent a number of hours now trying to troubleshoot an issue with Encore CS5.  I have it installed on a HP 6930p Notebook computer with a ATI HD3400 onboard video card.  Whenever Encore starts, my screens go black and I get an error "display driver stopped responding and has recovered".  I have the latest (22nd October 2010) drivers installed and I have tried changing nearly every setting for the display card, but to no avail.  It is obviously the driver, because if I change the driver back to the standard Microsoft driver, the software works, but with limited resolution and without the ability to extend screens.  If I also revert to the oldest version of the ATI driver, it doesn't black out, just crashes with a "application has stopped working" error.
Now I could just keep changing drivers when I use Encore, but this is a bit extreme and you would think it would work.  All my other CS5 software works ok...  PPro, AE, Photoshop, InDesign etc.
Operating System is Windows 7 Enterprise 64Bit with 4GB Memory.
Anyone got any suggestions or advice?  Or is anyone else having a similar issue and managed to solve the problem?
I could always install my older version of Encore CS4, but does installing Encore CS4 after CS5 has been installed cause any issues or problems?  Is this the easiest answer?
    Regards, John.

You have to do what you have to do, but I would be reluctant to settle for EN CS4 with a CS5 suite - dynamic link is further improved, and you'll be giving that up or complicating it.
(Yes, there are some users with problems, particularly doing Bluray, and they refer to using CS4 at times to fix things.  I like dual installations.)
No real idea on the video card issues.  I do think it is interesting that it is only Encore.

  • ATI x1600 problem almost fixed!

    Hello there,
As you already know, there are frequent display artifact problems and in general GPU stability problems with iMac (and macbook pro!) models featuring the notorious ATI x1600.
My last attempt at fixing this problem was to check the GPU diode temperature, which was around 59 degrees Celcius. The video card stability tests that I made showed beyond doubt that graphics chip stability was compromised at this temperature. One program showed random video RAM errors suggesting GPU bus instability, and the other program found artifacts in under 10 seconds.
Therefore, I downloaded the wonderful freeware program called smcFanControl and adjusted the minimum fan speed to about first 2000 rpm and then 1500 rpm, yes there is more noise, but the GPU Diode temperature is about 44 degrees now and there haven't been any nasty crashes for a while, and on the boot camp the video card stability surpassed the one minute mark. And I haven't seen any crashes since then, let's see how far it will go, it's past one day and there is no sign of a storm yet. I also keep the LCD brightness as low as possible (around median) to avoid excessive heat and do not use graphics intensive screensavers just to be on the safe side.
Hope this helps somebody around here!
    Regards,
    Eray Ozkural
    Researcher, Erendiz Superbilgisayar Ltd.
PS: The Apple Hardware Test cannot find any fault when the GPU is malfunctioning....

The only difference is that people with problems tend to post on forums to state that they have problems. People who do not have problems generally do not have any reason to post that everything is perfectly fine. Therefore, such anecdotal evidence is heavy skewed to the negative.
Also, when I do a Google search on "ati x1600 mac," most of the hits are about people over-clocking their X1600 and how to do it (not about problems). Because they are able to over-clock from the stock settings, that tells me Apple designed a fairly large safety margin into the design, since any over-clocking will increase heat and decrease reliability. I have not personally over-clocked anything, since I am happy with the stock performance.
(I see no evidence to justify calling it "notorious.")
So my guess would be that I am not particularly lucky, but you may be unlucky. Or perhaps your iMac's cooling system is not working as well as it should, since you say that increasing the fan speed improves reliability; maybe airflow is being blocked or hindered internally or one of the fans is not working properly. Or your iMac's power supply is becoming faulty. Or you are plugging it into an old surge suppressor (power strip) or one with too many other devices connected (overloaded).

  • Radeon Mobility HD 4650 / xf86-video-ati driver problem

    Hi everyone,
I am under Archlinux with my laptop (Asus N81vp)  since a year, and i've got this problem since the begining. With the radeon driver installed, my X work well but the fan of my card is screaming and my laptop anormaly hot. I do not have this problem under Windows or with the catalyst driver (witch is working). I really want to use the radeon, more maintained (and free ^^).
I cannot have the temperature and the state of the fan, my ic2 chips aren't recognized by lm-sensors...
I really don't know where the problem is : if anyone have a Radeon mobility HD 4650, i would like to know if they have the same problem or a solution. Maybe it's a bug of the driver, or a configuration problem...
Anyway, if anyone have a solution, i googlize it for hours, and this problem outclass my knowledge...
Here's a bit of my hardware and configs files. I you want more, tell me

As far as I know, the open source driver simply churns through quite a bit more power than catalyst when idling. The higher core temperature is the unfortunate direct result of this.
I'm using xf86-video-ati 6.14.2-1 too, but with a Radeon Mobility HD4570 (which is detected by lm-sensors, by the way). With the default driver settings (highest power state), I see core temperatures as high as 88 degrees C when doing nothing. I've added
    echo mid > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile
to /etc/rc.local as a workaround for the issue. This basically forces a lower power mode than default at boot. Currently, my GPU idles at 64 degrees C, which is sort of acceptable in my opinion. The obvious side effect of this workaround is that your graphics performance goes down, which I'd even notice in Gnome 3's transitions (not being as smooth as before).

Well problem solved. Of course it is strange, but.. Before update I installed fluidsynth and enabled to run it as daemon through rc.conf. Then was update and restart after that I had message that my sound card doesn`t work. I was thinking and decided to remove fluidsynth from daemons array. After restart everything works again. The strangest thing is that if I start fluidsynth daemon during system run(/etc/rc.d/fluidsynth start) everything works fine.

  • [ATI] Resolution Problems

Okay, so my monitor's native resolution is 1440x900 (19" 16:10) but for some reason xorg will only display at 1400x1050 (4:3) which makes my eyes very sad, and I was hoping someone here could help me get it to the right resolution.
    xorg conf: http://pastebin.com/m717e1aa9
    Oh and I have a radeon 3870.

R00KIE wrote:It does so because your xorg.conf says your monitor can do it.
In the "Section "Monitor"" try to comment modes your monitor doesn't support or that you don't want to use, I would delete or comment every resolution except the native one (if you are using a tft which I guess you do).
Or you could give autodetection a try,
The problem is my monitor's native resolution isn't in there, and I don't know exactly how to make a new one. I have tried tweaking the 1400x1050 resolution but it doesn't work (probably doin it wrong.) I have heard also from a friend that it might be the VESA driver which I'd like to replace anyway but I can't seem to get the ATI driver loaded.

Thanks for the suggestion, but doesn't work when the proper mode isn't in there anyways.

  • Overheating the laptop - Ati driver problem (SOLVED)

    Hi ppl.
I have Acer Aspire 5732 Z laptop. Intel Pentium processor T4400 2.2 GHz. Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512 MB VRAM, 15.6", 3 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD.
I successfully solved all the problems during the installation, but this one I can not handle. The laptop is HEATING too much. I also have Ubuntu 9.10 on the other partition and its all fine. Its working on the temperature of ~46 C. And my Arch is working on the temperature of ~60 C. So its about 15 C difference between Ubuntu and Arch. Way too much.
Arch is running in KDE mode. Have to add that I installed all KDE packages. Maybe the cause of this problem ?
I am using the proprietary Ati Radeon driver. I tried to change it with open source Ati driver but Xorg refused to configure again (gave me a blank screen).
I checked Wiki on laptop, but didnt succeded to solve this problem. Here s my rc.conf:
    MODULES=( acpi-cpufreq )
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus hal !acpid !acpi-support powernowd wicd !network !netfs alsa crond laptop-mode kdm)
    powernowd configuration:
    OPTIONS="-q -u 30 -l 10"
acpi-support is blacklisted because I installed it from AUR and didnt managed it to work. Its just saying "no permission" during the boot. I actually installed it because I read that its Ubuntus Acpi management. ~ I repeat Acpi is working fine on my Ubuntu.
I can also show my laptop-mode configuration files - if needed.
I am a newbie for Arch but I rlly done my best on this issue as I want to use this system. I think its great and highly configurable and I just love the fact its a rolling distro. But I cant use it overheating.
    So, please help.

I am using lmsensors on Arch and some kind of panel sensor on Mint, but its ok for sure. Few minutes ago I checked temperature on Arch and it was 56 C. Then I rebooted and when I logged into Mint it was 56 C. But few mins later temperature normalized to 45 C in Mint. After lsmod I logged into Arch again and temperature raised to 54 C.
So its Arch problem for sure.
    @hokasch
I am not sure about noise level of fans. Sounds similar to me. But maybe its a fan problem. I know its sometimes loud and sometimes silent. Probably depends on the system temperature. Maybe Arch cant control it normaly. Is there any kind of software that is used for fan speed ?

  • ATI GraphicCaralyst problem

    Hi
I have a problem with my graphic driver
Now I found the solution in this article
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … _or_startx
But anybody can explain me what does the below text mean ?
Wiki wrote:Boot to init3, add the number 3 at the end of the menu.lst kernel options:
    # rm /etc/ati/amdpcsdb
    Finally forgive my poor English
    Thank you so much

Right after boot you get in the GRUB menu. Select the entry with the arrow keys but dont press 'enter' as you normally would. Press 'e' instead, this will allow you to edit the entry. You will get to a new screen with all the lines of that entry, select the line tha says 'kernel ....' and press 'e' again. Put a '3' at the end of the line, 'enter' when you are done and 'b' to boot.
Normally you should boot to init5 which willl start X. Booting to init3 will only give you a terminal.

  • ATI Driver Problems Version 8.533.3.1-081110a-075168C-Lenovo

I hope I'm pasting this in the correct location.
The lastet version of the ATI drivers for my ThinkPad (T60) have a problem. The Catalyst Control Panel will simply open and close really fast. It will not run. Is there anyway to diagnose and fix this issue?
At this time I am forced to use NGO's Optimized drivers, but I'd rather use Lenovo's drivers.
    Thank you.
