ATi radeon 5770 3 monitors.

I am running 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon. OSX 10.6.8.
It came with an ATi radeon 5770. I have been succesfully running 3 monitors, however I cannot have them with the proper resolution.
I have 1 samsung syncmaster 2433(24") and 2 samsung 933(18.5").
The 24" is connected via DVI and the 18.5s are VGA via the adaptors.
One of the 18.5s uses the syncmaster resolutions (in display preferences shows that at the top of the box) and the other 18.5 is showing VGA Display at the top of the box. I don't care what it says, but I cannot get them on the same res. I would like them both @ 1360 x 768, but the monitor that shows VGA display will does not give me that as an option.
I have switched the hook ups around. (switching the slots which the monitors are connected to, yet the same monitor continues showing VGA display.....
My 24" is the DVI 1080p setting.
Any thoughts?

Yes. Just to go through step by step with you.
the computer has 3 video outs. 1 dvi and 2 mini dv
I go to display properties=
                    --> dvi  --> 24"                      (resolution = 1080p)   60Hz                title of box SM2333T
                    --> vga with adaptor --> 18.5" ( IS 1360 x 768) 60Hz                        title of box syncmaster
--> vga with adaptor --> 18.5" ( I want it to be same as previous) --    title of box VGA display
X423424X"The Displays preferences should show three windows, one on each display.  And are you saying the resolution selections in each display's window for the vga's does not show 1360 x 768?  Is that a valid resolution for those displays at the selected refresh rate?"
Yes, on one of the 18.5s it does not give me the option for 1360 x 768. And yes, that is the suggestedresolution with that refresh rate.

  • ATI Radeon 5770 w 2008 MacPro 3,1

I recently had my GeForce 8800 go bad on me. And after some research I plunked for the ATI Radeon 5770 (bought from here on the Apple Store).
I have a Dell 24" 2804WP LCD monitor, and am using the DVI port.
Before my 8800 went belly-up, I had ZERO problems with my monitor.
But now, since I've installed the ATI 5770, the monitor often "blacks out", and gives me this error message:
When I log-in via ScreenSharing (from my MacBook) and I see that there are not displays detected:
In fact, I get this same "non-display" configuration even when the monitor is "working."
Is this a driver thing? How do I go about troubleshooting this?
    Any ideas?

The message you are seeing on screen is generated by the display, not by the Mac.
The Mac does not use custom Drivers for any display. Instead, it uses a highly-parameterized Driver that is customized by the reported capabilities of the Display.
The display must report both its NAME and its Capabilities when the Mac asks for them, usually at power-on.
A common problem with displays that have multiple inputs, is that at the moment the Mac asks for this information, the display is not paying attention to the correct port, and misses the query. The Mac does not get a response, so the display stays blank. You can use the (Detect Displays) button to get the Mac to ask again, but this may require an additional display.
I do not believe converting from Mini DisplayPort will improve anything. Direct DVI should be superior. Since your display is only 1920 wide, Dual-Link is not needed.

  • Alittle help with dual-setup with ati radeon 5770

Hello everyone, I have been trying to setup a dual display with 2 flat panel monitors.
    1. A WestingHouse Digital Electronics "17"
    2. A Goldstar Company Ltd "23" (Main Display)
Im currently running the gnome desktop, what im trying to setup, is have both the gnome desktop show up on both monitors. For example if I wanted to move something from my main monitor to the smaller one to the left of me, I want to NOT be able to do that, and only have the mouse be able to move accross the 2. 2 Seperate desktops one 2 seperate screens. Im not quite sure what its called, Im thinking maybe its a clone Desktop? Anways, The graphics card Im using is an
Ati Radeon 5770, has 2 vga ports. I currently have the "video-ati" driver installed and works well with my main screen, but im unable to get my secondary screen (to the left of me) working. I tried going into System>>Preferences>>Monitors, and tried tinkering with the display, and tried enabling the 2 monitors and moving them from left to right, to see if that would possibly let it show up or start to function, but only the main screen works. I generated a new xorg.conf, since I didnt have one prior to installing Arch, I was following these to guides
    http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/X.Org/Dual_Monitors
    http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/X.Org/Dual_Monitors/ATI
both are very nice, but Im still not quite understanding yet. Defiantly am trying. I edited my xorg.conf a few times, but got the same results each time, just the screen going blank and X crashing.  I have here a copy of my xorg.conf, Xorg.conf.log, and xrandr output

    Thank you guys!

An xorg.conf may not be necessary, but I still find it nice to have the control that the file provides.
In looking over yours, I see several things that could be causing your problems.
First off,  I notice that you have Screen0  that is using Card0 and Monitor0.  This part looks ok.
When I look at Screen1, I notice that you are using  ATI Graphics Adapter1 and Monitor1.   I don't see entries for either of those, although you have an ATI Graphics Atapter2, but there is no entry for your second monitor.
I also notice that you are trying to use both radeon and fglrx as drivers.  As far as I know (and I don't have an ATI video card at the moment), you can use one driver or the other, but not both.
After you have these things fixed, then you can put in the Screen section in your server layout to describe the positioning of your second monitor.
All in all, the issues that you have to fix are minor,  but frusterating if you are too close to the situation.
    Good luck.

  • ATI Radeon 5770 Apple Upgrade Kit temperature

    Hi dear friends!
I wonder if anyone can tell me what are the "normal" temperature ranges for an ATI Radeon 5770 Mac Graphic Card running on a Mac Pro 1,1 with one monitor only doing the day-to-day basic operations! Mine gets aroung 45-49 Celsius (113-120 Farenheit) degrees. Im pretty concern about this issue because I cannot find anyone with a normal chart of temperature ranges over internet.
    Best Regards to all, @JRGN.

    JR.GN wrote:
... its the internal temperature of the Mac Pro. But do you think its normal?...
Which internal temperature? For example, Temperature Gauge (App Store) is listing 24 different temperature measurement points ranging from 81ºF to 157ºF in a 2010 Mac Pro right now and none of them is the video card.
The graphics card has a series of heat sink tubes running from the card's fan to the back plane of the card; the fan blows air through the tubes to remove the heat generated by the card and vents it out the back. Those tubes tend to collect a lot of dust, blocking the tubes and messing up the card's cooling system. One solution is to carefully route the tube of a compressed air can between the card's fan blades and aim it toward the rear of the card. You may be surprised at the cloud of dust blown out the back. Since the tubes are arranged like organ pipes, if you move the tube's nozzle to face different tubes, you can clean out most of the tubes in the heat sink.

  • Should I purchase ATI Radeon 5770 vs. ATI Radeon 5870?

I'm using CS5 to do focus stacking (2-3GB files) doing a lot of free transform/opacity changing to match layers underneath and also moderate video editing in Final Cut.
I want to upgrade my graphics card (currently have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120) and was wanting some input as to the ATI Radeon 5770 or the ATI Radeon 5870? Is the 5870 overkill for these applications? Will I see much improvement in smooth anchor point movement? Running dual monitors out of the DVI and mini display port (s).
    Thanks

Outside your budget? Quadro 4000 could potentially do more if CS5 Mercury Engine plug-in is being used or off load and use CUDA.
Trouble is you can't (easily) have 5870 and Quadro 4000.
$449 seems an awful lot for 5870 today, (PC 5870s are now less than Apple 5770). PC Quadro 4000 go for $750 instead of $1195.
One reason why - (there are threads here, too)

  • Question about Parallels and ATI Radeon 5770

Ok, so I have a Mac Pro 3,1 here. I'm upgrading it to 16GB and two 7200 RPM 3TB drives which I'll run in Raid 0.
It has an ATI 2600HD with 256MB VRAM.  This card has two DVI ports.
I just purchased an ATI Radeon 5770.  I will use it with two Cinema Displays (DVI connections).
To connect the second display, I have the Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter at Firmware 1.03.
    My question concerns Parallels 8.
My Windows 7 VM will be a heavy-use VM so I want snappy performance.  I was planning to dedicate 8GB RAM, half my CPU cores to it, and 512MB VRAM on the 5770.
What I was wondering about was the possibility of leaving in the 2600 HD and using its GPU to support my Parallels VM.  Is that feasible?  Practical?
    Thanks

Dump the 2600XT (put it on the shelf, don't use it)
Install Windows natively first, then you can use it both ways, natively and dual boot, plus in a VM when that works.
Another option is 10.8.2 supports more Nvidia cards and more then the 1GB.
Don't use green 3TB in an array.

    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz

I'm shopping around for a replacement graphics card for my Mac Pro and I've found several Radeon 5770s that don't have the PCIe power cable included.
Does anyone know what sort of cable they use and if replacements can be purchased?

yes it can be purchased but first, you are shopping for an Apple version, right?

  • ATI Radeon 5770 in 2006 Mac Pro with Lion

Hit an issue with my 2006 Mac Pro when the video card died in late October. At that point I was running Lion and had kept on top of software updates. Being on a restricted budget, I have purchased and installed an ATI Radeon 5770 card from the Apple store as I cannot afford a new Mac Pro. I knew that before I did this there may be incompatability problems with this card and Lion on the older Mac Pros, and this seems to be the case.
However, having trawled through the forums it seems some users are able to run this card on 1.1 machines with Lion. So I am now wondering if I have another issue - I'd much rather stick with Lion if I can rather than revert to Snow Leopard. Now I have installed the card things seem fine with the display - the 30" cinema display no longer has blocks of pixels all over it. On boot up the screen is a pale grey, the Apple logo appears in the centre with the busy timer underneath. I also get a loading bar for about 20 seconds. This gets to about 20% then disappears. Everything sounds like the machine is booting normally but it just won't progress beyond this point. I have tried holding shift to boot it in safe mode but the same things happens.
If anyone can help point me in the right direction of what I should try next I'd be profoundly grateful!
    Vinny

I knew that before I did this there may be incompatibility problems with this card and Lion on the older Mac Pros,
Although some users have complained of problems, their wounds may be self-inflicted. Use of a non-Apple ATI 5770 or failure to upgrade to at least 10.6.5 are high on the list. The main "issue", if you can even call it that, is the card runs more slowly than its published benchmarks due to PCIe 1 slots in the Mac Pro 1,2 and 2,1.
I also get a loading bar for about 20 seconds. This gets to about 20% then disappears.
That progress bar is indicative of unresolved Hard Drive problems. You need to boot to an alternate source of software (Hold Command-R at startup for Recovery_HD if you are running later than 10.6.8) and check the SMART Status and then select Macintosh_HD or whatever you renamed it and ( Repair Disk ). Repeat until all problems are resolved or it gets stuck. If you need help, copy the EXACT error message back here.

  • ATI RADEON 5770 on Mac Pro 2006

    Hello,
I am using a MacPro 1.1 (from 2006) and out of the blue my video card which was Geforce 7300GT burned out. I can't find a replacement card which is the same and only combatible one I found is Ati Radeon 5770. Before I move on buying this card I am wondering whether it will work first of all on my mac pro, and if so which exact model should I purchase since I see some differences in each one as far as the memory bus (4800Mhz, 5200 Mhz and 1200 Mhz) and the processor clock speed ( 850 Mhz and 875 Mhz) I would really appreciate some help on this matter since it's already 2 weeks I am trying to solve it.
    Thanks!

    Well, thank you for that.
If you are lucky or willing, the link I have for 1st gen 8800GT model on ebay. Pricey as can be though.
    Also:
    http://myworld.ebay.com/macvidcards/
Hopefully 5770s are waiting for drivers or to be replaced with Radeon 6xxx series (but which would then require more retooling of drivers you can be sure).
Last year this time, the 5000's were just coming out. Nvidia was also inbetween the FERMI (GeForce 400s) and older GTX 200 series which caused shortages and when you could find anything, inflated pricing.
When I bought the 8800GT I also picked up ($129) OS X DVD 10.5.6 (had I guessed, I would have waited for Snow Leopard @ $29 maybe). And, you have to call but 10.5.x DVDs can be ordered by phone Apple Store but not online (another peeve, it is almost impossible to buy Leopard now, the last that supports PowerMacs too).
At least the Apple variety of ATI Radeon work in any and all Mac Pro models.
If there is a way to flash or work with PC cards, that would come from MacRumors Mac Pro.

  • ATI Radeon 5770 in Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (the 2008 model), which works with the ATI Radeon 5770 GPU. I want to upgrade from my 2600 because it's noisy and not as fast as I want it to be. It seems like there are two versions of the 5770: Mac and non-Mac. What's the difference? Can I put a regular 5770 in my Mac or only the "Mac version"?

Graphics cards that are PC-BIOS only do not show a picture under MacOS X, which uses EFI firmware.
PC-cards that have been flashed to EFI firmware do not show a picture until the login screen.
Genuine Mac cards show a picture from power-on, and this makes debugging and booting from another drive much simpler.

  • ATI Radeon 5770 on Mac Pro 3.1

    Hi All,
I got a question I want to buy the new 27 inch cinema display but this new display got the apple mini displayport which my mac pro don't have.
    Specs Computer:
MacPro3,1 Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2,8 GHz with videocard: ATI Radeon HD 2600
    So what to do now?
    First option:
Do I need to buy the ATI Radeon HD 5770 because this got all the correct ports to connect to the 27 inch display? And will this display be able to connect to my mac pro? And how many monitors can be connected to one ATI Radeon HD 5770 video card? Because I have also my old display 20 inch and I want to use that if it is possible as a second screen.
    Second option:
I read on the internet that It is possible to buy an dual DVI to apple mini displayport converter but I don't read on apple site if this will work correct? But with this solution if it is possible then I can not work with 2 screens not a big problem but is this cable good to buy for my mac to connect to the display?
I hope i'm clear and understandable and I hop you can help me with this "problem".
    Thnx,
    Nick

There are 10s of comments on the product page, here, and on various sites.
Ony requires 10.6.5 or later. Works in ALL Mac Pro models, as we never of course tire of saying.

  • Conflicts with ATI Radeon 5770?

    Hello,
I am using a Mac Pro 3.1, 2x2.8 quad core Xeon, with OSX 10.6.7.  I recently upgraded to a ATI Radeon HD 5770 in slot 1 and put my original ATI Radeon 2660XT in Slot 4 to run an older DVI monitor.  It ran ok for a while, but my computer starting crashing more and more often--the black screen scrolls down and it says the computer needs to be restarted.  I am using a NEC PA271W on the 5770 and a NEC 2180UX on the 2660.  Removing the 2180UX seems to have  helped.  My computer has crashed only once since then.
The other odd bit is occassionaly the PA 271W doesn't pick up the signal from the 5770, and I have to restart.  This has happened since I first installed the card and monitor.  Different setting on the monitor don't seem to help.
Anybody have similar problems and have any recommendations about how to fix the problem?  I need to run two monitors.  Do I have to buy a new DVI-D monitor that can be run through the mini connector on the 5770 to replace the 2180UX?
    Thanks,
    Drew Harty

If I read that article correctly, they don't mention using any combination of dvi and vga displays. The options they mention are:
2 mini display port displays and 1 dvi display
    2 dvi displays
    3 dvi displays
    3 vga displays
(this article doesn't mention 2 vga displays, or my combination of 1 dvi display and 1 vga display).
Conspicuously, my combination of 1 dvi display, connected to the dvi port, and 1 vga display, connected to a mini display port with an apple mini display port- vga adaptor, occasionally gives me popcorn on my dvi display after waking from sleep, restarting, or starting up.
I've never had a problem with the vga display, but there seems to be a problem with the dvi display and connection through the 5770 card on my mid 2010 4-core.

  • ATI Radeon 5770 for 2008 Mac Pro

I just bought this card for my 2008 mac pro. According to the Apple store's Q&A, this card should work fine with my computer. I am curious if this is just a simple swap, or if I need to attach any additional power cable to the mother board.
Also, is it possible to use this card and the ATI Radeon HD2600 simultaneously on my computer? I have a USB card and a black magic HDMI in/out card I use for video already installed. Just want to make sure I won't pull too much power and overheat.
    Thanks!

I had basically the same problem with trying to run the Mac 5770 with a Mac/PC 3870 in my 2008 Octo 3.1 MP. I was hoping I could use the component output on the 3870 (using the 9 pin ATI adapter that has component, s-video and composite outputs) for my Sony CRT Pro monitor and using the DVI to run a large screen TV for Netflicks, etc, or another smaller digital monitor. Plus, I was keeping my fingers crossed that Apple's "Color" application wouldn't see the 3850 if I had the AV switcher turning the connections off when not in use while editing in FCP Studio (Color will usually not launch if it "sees" two graphics cards connected to monitors).
Apparently the 5770 firmware has a conflict with other ATI cards: 2600, 3850 and maybe even 4870. I thought they would have a better chance of working together being ATI, but apparently not. Another user posted that he was able to get a NVIDIA GT 120 working fine with the ATI 5770 after having the same issues with the ATI 2600, but whether Color will launch is another question. I suppose I can try some older cheaper NVIDIA's maybe even some with analog outputs that the 3870 had if I could find one? Any suggestions or success stories in running a second card with the 5770?
Finally, I removed the 3870 to see how the 5770 would work by itself: the screen start-up time went from several minutes to seconds. Both monitors are very snappy and working fine with one 23" CD in the DVI port and the other23" CD using the mini-display port adapter (just the single $29 one, not dual DVI $99 type).
I don't play games or do much 3D, so I hope it was worth the upgrade price, as the 3870 had a passive cooler, was rock solid in every aspect and ran Core apps fast, but it didn't have OpenCL, so I'm hoping to see some improvement across the board in my graphics, especially the Adobe CS5 Suite.
