ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card is conflicting with additional memory

I have a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I have a 645E Max motherboard (MS-6547). I recently purchased a 512MB dimm of Kingston PC2700 Cas 2.5 memory (KVR333X64C25/512) to go with the the 256MB dimm of the same model # above. I installed the memory and my screen stays blank. When I remove the new dimm it runs fine. I did get the memory and the motherboard tested at the store where I got the motherboard and they work fine. I came to the conclusion it was my video card when I removed all my components except the memory and the video card, and turned on the machine, nothing. I did try swiching dimm location and changing any bios settings I thought would make it work. I tried updating the video card drivers and motherboard AGP drivers. If anybody had this problem in the past could you tell me how you got it to work.

I took the board and the 2 dimms to the store where I bought them.  They hooked up both dimms and a video card to the board.  When it was powered up, both dimms were recognized.  After I got home I proceded to determine if another component it conflicting with the memory.  I started with both dimms and my video card the Radeon.  I powered up with no other hardware connected and the screen remains blank.  I remove the 512MB dimm and leave the 256MB dimm in, and powered up and pc booted up normally.

  • ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card and Quicktime Pro

In an earlier thread, I found out that the reason Quicktime Pro was not working on my new computer is that Apple has not yet worked out incompatibilities with QT Pro and new nVidia video cards. Since I need the QT Pro to do my movie editing work, I am going to switch to another high end video card. Does anyone know if an ATI Radeon X1950 Pro video card works with QT Pro? If not, is there another high-end card that someone can recommend?
    Thanks

Sounds like you need a bigger case.

  • Having trouble with my G4 MDD 867MHz DP and ATi Radeon 9800 Pro video card.

I just recently purchased the ATi Radeon 9800 Pro Mac edition card on ebay. I installed the card on my G4 and turned it on thinking everything would work with no problems, but when I turned it on the grey apple screen came up fine and then it changed to a sky-blue screen with nothing on it and remained on that screen. My desktop or any of my apps did not load up at all. I reset the PRAM and the NVRAM as the seller I bought the card from instructed me to and still I get the same result. Is anyone familiar with this problem? I was wondering if my monitor was the problem because I'm using a Dell LCD monitor as the display for right now? I need help! I'm trying to get this up and running so I can start editing. Whatever information anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Sometimes display cards that support multiple displays (or a second display card in the same Mac) can cause the display you are using to be the SECOND display in a multiple-display "extended desktop".
When this happens, the MenuBar and cursor may be drawn perfectly, but be on the "other" screen, and it is very difficult to determine what has happened. \[This problem is sometimes caused by inadvertently leaving an adapter or cable on an unused display port.]
Try moving the mouse many times to the right to see if the cursor suddenly transitions onto your screen, then try the same experiment to the left.

  • Final Cut Pro with a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

I have an older Power Mac G4 that I have upgraded from 400Mhz to 1.4Ghz and a ATI Radeon 9000 Pro video card. I recently bought Final Cut Pro 2.0 and do not want to upgrade the video card yet again. Does anyone know of any work around to get Final Cut Pro to work on this computer?
    Details are as follows:
    Error message -
The installed graphics card does not support the OpenGL features recommended by Final Cut Pro.
    ATI Radeon 9000 Pro:

Any work around at all would be great. ATI told me to upgrade to 9600 AGP or 9800 AGP. I am not even sure the 9800 AGP will work on this vintage Power Mac.

It looks like http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html you will be able to run the basic Final Cut Pro program but, obviously, its not going to scream. Many of the individual elements of the suite i.e. Motion, Color, are not going to function as they should without a significant boost in several things, memory, processor speed, video card.
In all honesty, you should be running FCP 4.5 or 5.0 which will run very well with your hardware. But since you already have FCS2, (I assume that's what you mean, not really Final Cut 2) hang on to it for when you decide to do what all of us eventually will have to do; buy an Intel based box.
My G5 is fast approaching obsolete, and I'm just waiting for the next version of Final Cut Suite to see how much box I need to go to. Didn't think this time 19 months ago I would be saying that... but time does roll on.
    You'll enjoy FCS2 (FCP6)

  • Can I use an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in a Mac Min

Looking to buy a Mac mini.
In 2004 I upgraded the graphics card in my dual processor 450 MHz G4 desktop with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card to run a 20-inch Cinema Display.
Now my G4 has died (probably the power supply and I'm being told it's not worth it to fix---buy a Mac mini!)
But I've read that the graphics card in the Mac mini is not stellar and I'm wondering if I could reuse the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in the Mac mini. Would this be a good thing to do?
Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,

There are people that claim to have hooked up a PCI-e 1x card (yes, the Mini uses PCI-e). But that requires some serious hardware modifications including soldering, a PC power supply, and so on. But that card is an old AGP card so even that wouldn't even work for what you've got.

  • 645 Ultra-C and ATI Radeon 9000 Pro

    Hi there --
I have a 645 Ultra-C with P4 1.7mhz attached to it. It has 640mb of RAM, Audigy 2, and brand new ATI Radeon 9000 pro. It's running WindowsXP
The issue is that upon installing the ATI card into the machine WindowsXP is freezing and then recovering with an error message about a device failure. In checking the system log I see an error message about the ATI driver being stuck in a loop.
I am using the driver I downloaded from the ATI web site along with the ATI control panel software also downloaded from the ATI site. The drivers are the latest.
I am able to regain stability by disabling hardware acceleration in Display Properties. This is less then ideal.
I'm using version 7.2.0.1130 of the AGP driver. I'm not sure which BIOS rev, it would be the one the motherboard shipped with. However I'm unable to flash the BIOS really since I do not have access to a 98/ME box. As I understand it I can only flash the BIOS from a 98/Me startup floppy on a non-FAT machine. LiveUpdate gives me an error message about the service not being started and that LiveUpdate only works with MSI graphics cards.
In the BIOS I’ve switched the primary video card from PCI to AGP. I’ve even downgrade from AGP 4x to APG 2x using the AGP utility.
    Any ideas?

flashed up to 1.90 via LiveUpdate2, after pulling ATI card and running on tnt2 card, and now I'm cranking

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro and 1440x900 resolution on G4?

I am looking to purchase a new widescreen monitor (Viewsonic VA1912WB) which supports a native resolution on 1440x900. I am trying to determine if the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro card will properly support this resolution. Anyone have a clue, or tried it yourselves? Thanks!

I had found that page and had drawn the same "hopeful" conclusion that you are suggesting. I also looked in my displays preference pane and noticed quite a few options that aren't on the ATI site as "supported displays," which leads me to believe it's possible.
I've checked out some other boards (pc based) and they are able to make it work but it involves modifying all sorts of driver files. Stupid PC's!
Anyone else out there have the ATI card and the ability to test that resolution?

  • ATI Radeon 9000 PRO Mac Edition supported under Tiger ?

    Hi all,
we are still using OS X 10.3.x for our venerable G4 AGP mac. Back in 2005 when Tiger was the new OS, we were told that our ATI Radeon™ 9000 PRO Mac Edition graphics would not be supported under 10.4.x. Has this changed? I don't want to upgrade to Leopard yet, but would like to use some Tiger features as Mail 2.0 or improved iSync.
    Thanks for any input ...

So is this why all my fonts are screwed on my G4 MDD dual 1.25 using a ATI 9000 Pro?
Seems as tho it works perfectly fine when i had 10.4.10 but when 10.4.11 was released all my fonts are screwed. Even when booting from a OSX CD. I installed 10.5 and still doesnt work.
    looks like i need a 9600.

  • ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac AGP (driver needed for OS 9.2?)

    Hi guys!
    How's everybody doin?
I just picked up a used ATI 9000 AGP 128 MB (as an upgrade for my G4 Quicksilver 800 MHZ).
I'm using 2 HD's (one with OS9), the other (with OSX)
I think OS 9.2 will do ok without the need for a driver, but I just wanna make sure ...
    Thanx
Everyone is very helpful around here
    Mike

    Hello again Carl, and Dave
I know it's been a while since we last talked about this issue. Well apparently, I do have OS freezing problems
with 9.2 and the ATI 9000 Mac Pro - take a look:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4289264#4289264
Wonder if your driver would solve this?
But can I put your driver in the system while it's still functioning with the older OEM video card back in?
(that's the only way I can get the system not to freeze)
    Thanks
    Mike

i'm getting a blank screen at start up while using my radeon x1300 pro... dont really know whats wrong with it. the agp slot is good, i'm getting power to the card, my board is set to boot agp/pci for the video so thats good. only problem is is that i'm not sure what the model of my motherboard is to check with compatiblity. got the mb and processor from a buddy of mine. he got the mb and processor from a friends grandpa... so to make long storys short. i have no idea what my computer is made of but from what i hear ati products dont seem to get along well with msi. is there any logical reason? and if so is there anything that i have overlooked here? common problems and such. i've updated everything i could update but still no signs of life comming from my video card " and yes the card was pushed in all the way". any feed back would be appreciated.

  • ATI Radeon 9600 PRO Graphics Card

I am thinking of upgrading my graphics card, my computer came with a Nvidia Geforce4 mx, I was at the apple store and noticed a few people having problems with this card. I was wondering if anyone out there has any info for me about the odds of this card working on my Quicksilver G4 933 MHz. Iam driving a Cinema Display 20 inch. I really like gaming online and could use the added memory that the ATI Radeon Pro 9600 has, plus my curent card has problems with full screen games.

    StephanZcat,
I've been out of town for a bit and just saw your post and links. I'll do some research and see if I can come up with something. ...and maybe we can get some other experts in here.
    JBernstein:
Apple usually has a disclaimer about all 3rd party upgrades to Mac's that states they 'do not support them'. So, if it's not for sale at the Apple Store or a Dealer, "It's not supported" - even if it works just fine. For Apple Authorized Do-it-Yourself upgrades there is a page you can access:
    http://www.apple.com/support/diy/
There are many sites that track Mac upgrades, I'll list a few.
For 3rd party upgrades and issues, look at:
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/
    http://www.barefeats.com/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/benchmark/index.cfm
BTW, your 20' just needs at least a 32MB Video card to push it. Here's a list of most cards that will fit in your 'Sawtooth'. It's set up for Apple Cubes but the information may be helpful in
seeing the differences in video cards
    http://www.cubeowner.com/forums/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=1327
Note: Your Sawtooth's motherboard does NOT support ADC connections. There is no power supply for them. You will have to make sure whatever Video card you get has DVI and VGA (not ADC).
Look at this for compatible video cards for a Sawtooth:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Upgrades.cfm?model=166&type=Video&TI=%23TimeForm at%28Now%28%29%2C&shoupgrds=ShowUpgrades
Finally, there are a host of 'flashed' PC video cards available for Mac's on Ebay. I have a few and most work fine. If you want to see some options, I suggest you look at what a seller named 'yoyomarv' has for sale. Ask questions before you buy. A card you might consider is a converted NVidia Geforce 4 Ti 4600
    It's a start...

  • Mac Edition G5 PCIe ATI Radeon X1900GT 256MB Video Card power cord

I have a G5 2.5 quad, serial number YM5*2EQPS. It has a ATI Radeon 9800 XT on board now. I have two monitors connected.
I want to add a Cintiq graphics tablet, so I need additional video (it is also a monitor). I purchased the Mac Edition G5 PCIe ATI Radeon X1900GT for this purpose.
I can't find a place to plug in the auxiliary power supply. I see several plugs (including a couple centered over the memory slots), but all are filled and none appear to be the six-pin type.
Perhaps I purchased the wrong card for this machine? Or maybe I'm just too stupid to open the back of my computer? Help!
    <Edited by Host>

    HI-
I am confused by your statements saying that you have a G5 Quad (Late 2005, right?) and that you have a Radeon9800 XT installed.
The 9800 XT is an AGP card and won't work in a Quad...
Putting that aside, the Radeon X1900 G5 Edition connects to the G5 logic board at a connector that is centered on the upper edge of the logic board over the memory slots.
