ATI radeon card on mega 180

Is anyone using a radeon card with the mega 180 ?
Which model would fit ?
I was thinking about the sapphire 9600 xt ultimate edition
since it has passive cooling, but the cooler seems a bit big  at the back of the card ?
AND does the ati TV out work better than the nvidia tv out ?
Is it possible to finetune the height /width of the picture ?
Please post any model of ATI that will fit.
I'm tired of this piece of  nvidia onboard card.
Dst

I don't have a 180, I have an 865 that has an ATI Radeon card.  Works great with my Mega 865, but it's one huge beast.
It took up the AGP slot, and both PCIs.   I don't suggest getting this card unless you are willing to make some modifications to it straight out of the box.

  • ATI Radeon Card with 2 DVI LCD Display

At last, I made a big step forward by purchasing the new MP. I already have a 23" Apple Display and intend to buy another DVI display (non Apple). How do I connect both LCD screen to the ATI Radeon card? Do I need to purchase any adaptor?

    Hi SamsonSimon;
    Here are the specs on the ATI Radeon card;
ATI Radeon HD 4870 includes two video ports: one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port. This allows you to connect both the 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display or another Mini DisplayPort-based display, and a DVI-based display such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display. Display adapters are available to connect VGA displays.
Since it says it has two ports, one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port, it would seem you are going to need an adapter for the second LCD screen.

  • Advice needed for buying an AGP card for MEGA 180

    Since 1 year I have a MEGA 180 with a SEMPRON 2500 processor, 512 MB DDR RAM, Lite-On DVD-R/W, Hauppauge PVR-150 running MediaPortal 2.0.0.0.-RC4 and it rocks!
I am not so happy though about the TV-output of the integrated GF4MX that came with the nForce2 chipset. I would like to disable this and insert a low profile, passive cooled nVidia-6200 with 128 MB-DDR. I am a bit worried about the power requirements of the card and the juice that the power supply (200W ) can deliver. Is it safe to use this card or should I adjust my demands? I am using the system for media purposes only, e.g. recording and watching recorded TV, watching movies and playing music. MediaPortal requires a DirectX-9 compliant card, DirectX-8 also works but with video artefacts. Gaming is no requirement.
Can anyone please advice what to do  ???
    Thanks in advance, Leo

Problem: Installer freezes during boot at "setting console to utf-8 mode".
Solution: Add "radeon.modeset=0" to kernel command line.
Posting for the sake of anyone else who might be having this same problem.

    Same here:
    System: Dell Inspiron 1525

Problem: screen turn black during system load.
Solution: Add "nomodeset" or "i915.modeset0" to kernel command line.

  • What is the best ATI Radeon Card that will work in a mid 2012 12 core mac pro?

What is the high model # ati Radeon Graphics card that will work with my new mid year Mac Pro 2012 .. 12 core, If I use 2 cards can I have up to 6 screens operating
How much from Apple  is a 5870 card?   Can it be purchased for less somewhere else?   Can it be used in conjunction with the stock 5770 card?
    Thankyou
    Stuart

One or two Apple-firmware 5770 cards can be used simultaneousy in a Mac Pro. It requires ONE Aux power cord for each card.
ONE Apple-Firmware 5870 can be used in a Mac Pro, as it requires TWO Aux power cords, and that is all that are available.

  • MDD G4 1.25GHz 9600 Pro 256Mb ATI Radeon Card is this the best?

I have MDD 1.25GHz want to upgrade to new AGP graphics card and keep running two monitors both Apple Studio Displays (ADC connections?)and if possible get rid of the Apple DVI-I to ADC Adapter current card is ATI 9000 pro (64Mb).
Is this card the best it has dual DVI which is no good for my monitors, how do I get over the connectivity issues?
Really don't want to change monitors as these are still great.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Flashing the ROM on a PC card to make it Mac-usable typically requires the process start on a PC. There are sites around that have instructions--I don't have any bookmarked at the moment. Google "flashing Mac video card" and see what you get. I got this:
    Google results
The ATI 9600 is supposed to be a cross-platform card with ROM for both Macs and PCs. However, that only applies if the card is a retail ATI-branded model. If it was a card once sold with a PC, it may not be cross-platform.
I've used only retail ATI cards or the cards that shipped new in a Mac, so my understanding of flashing cards is limited to what others have posted in these forums.

I'm just curious about graphic card settings.........i've posted a couple times b4 but really didn't get the info i needed,
I'm just looking for all the suggested settings for my graphic card
cuz its running too slow for comfort
just settings like agp aperture or voltage settings cuz im not sure
    of any of that.

The Radeon 9600 Mac & PC will not work with some G4 Macs. So if you have one of the G4s listed below then Apple is correct.
The following was taken from ATI's "Knowledge Base" web site at this URL: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894

The Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition is not compatible with the "Quicksilver", "Quicksilver 2002" or the "Digital Audio" PowerMac G4. If a Radeon 9600 Mac & PC Edition board is installed in one of these systems the result is a blank display.

I seem to be going backwards!

  • Ati, radeon, fglrx, catalyst, ???

I am converting one of my boxes to Arch.  it has an older ATI Radeon card (7500, I think).  I have always used the "radeon" driver.
pacman finds no "radeon" driver--only "radeonhd".  Some quick digging--including here--finds discussion of "catalyst" as the replacement for "fglrx".
But---what is the replacement for "radeon"?  And, if "radeonhd" is not it, then what is "radeonhd"
Also----is it true that the ATI Radeon requires "dri" to be loaded?  Both my other boxes use Nvidia, and dri is not used.

pixellany wrote:Thanks--in the interim I loaded that and setup to use "ati".  I did not notice if it loaded "radeon" also.
    Anyway, now it's working....
Yes, it did  load "radeon" also--which I am now using.
    Anyone know what "radeonhd" is?

  • Leopard and Second life on MacBook Pro 2.0 with ATI X1600 card

    Hi,
I really want to get Leopard but am very hesitant given some of the reports and forums I have read about people having with SL in Leopard.
I have a 2.0 Macbook Pro with the X1600 Ati Radeon card and 1.5 Gig RAM.
Right now, SL runs perfectly in Tiger. I love it. Very smooth and fast.
However, I would like to upgrade to Leopard for some of the new features.
Has anybody had trouble running Second Life on a MacBook pro with the above specifications, with Leopard installed ? I am also concerned about Photoshop CS continuing to work but will make that another topic.
Please let know. I really don't want to get all the crashes and freezes some people have been talking about in Leopard with SL and don't want to have to run the different viewers to make it work.
    Thank you !

Since you use Aperture you must do a lot of photo work. Aperture really makes a lot of system demands so I suspect that you are spending a decent amount of time waiting. Aperture also likes a big screen and lots of RAM.
Hard drive size should not be that much of an issue. First, you should be moving those photos over to storage media for safe backup. (A smaller drive should make you more religious about doing this, right? LOL) Second, hard drives can be replaced with bigger and better models.
So, could you use an upgrade? Probably. But, the price seems a bit high at 1700. When buying used, the software included with the system means very little. Don't allow the price to rise because of it. Get some comps off of ebay for similar systems that have sold recently and negotiate. Don't be afraid to make a lower offer and walk away if the seller says no. You have a decent chance that you'll get a call a few days later agreeing to your reasonable offer.
PS: make sure that ATI Radeon card is a 256 and not a 128.

  • Can I put two ATI Radeon X1900 XT's into a MacPro?

    Hi
We've just bought a MacPro, with 3 NVIDEA 7300 cards. Sadly it seems the 7300 does not support the apple DVI-Video adapter. Our system requires three dual link DVI ports supporting the adapter, so on face value we should be able achieve this by removing the 7300's and installing two ATI Radeon X1900 XT's instead.
The question is is it possible to put two ATI Radeon X1900 XT's into a MacPro? Has any one done this? or indeed does anyone know how to get the 7300's to recognize a DVPAL device such as video projector or analogue video monitor?
    Cheers
    Nick
    MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

PCI-E (Peripheral Component Interconnect-Express) is a newer implementation of PCI which uses a much faster physical-layer communications protocol than older PCI bus architectures.
Rather than using a bus as PCI did, PCI-E uses dedicated, unidirectional, point-to-point connections known as "lanes" to communicate with PCI-E devices.
The Mac Pro features four PCI-E 16-"lane" connectors on the main logic board. In PCI-E, these are known as "x16" slots. These can be used for PCI-E-compatible cards, like the ATI Radeon card that is available as a configure-to-order option in the Mac Pro.
PCI-E cards will work in slots that are at least as large as the card is. This means that the "x16" slots in the Mac Pro computer also supports "x1" and "x4" cards as well. However, all four slots cannot simultaneously support four cards that implement the same lane configuration. Only one slot actually has 16 lanes going to it—you can put a x16 card into a slot that is only using one lane and it will operate properly, but it will operate more slowly than the same card in a x4, x8 or x16 slot.
The Expansion Slot Utility, located in /System/Library/Core Services, allows you to configure the PCI-E expansion slots and how many lanes each slot will support, as illustrated below. This example shows a "x16" graphics card occupying the first slot, and the other slots are configured to support an "x1" card in slot two and "x4" cards in slots three and four. The example shows the other options available. When you have picked the appropriate configuration of slots to support your compliment of PCI-E cards, click the Save and Restart... button to implement the configuration.

  • Is there a fix to the ATI Radeon 5800 series scree...

I have an ATI Radeon 8.850.0.0 and it has a screen resolution problem. Basically, I came home to find everything on my screen enlarged. I attempted to adjust the screen resolution through Windows 7 and couldn't find any resolution that looked okay. Everything is blurrier and stretched. Other ATI Radeon owners are having similar problems and posting the issues on forums. However, I haven't found many solutions to this issue online.
I would try and roll back the driver but it won't allow me. The Roll Back Driver option is grayed out. My driver is fully updated now as well. Is there anyone that knows how to fix this problem?

excuse me but what's the relation with Nokia/Ovi Suite or a mobile device and the ATI Radeon cards?

  • Mega 180 - Install Video Card or Install Video Driver

I just spent 6 hours at a customer's house trying to fix the Mega 180 I built for her.
As I stated in a previous thread, the machine was working fine and then she experienced the BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.  This is when your machine POSTS, loads Windows and just before Windows starts, the monitor goes dead.  Windows still loads and if you remember where icons are on the desktop, you can click them and stuff happens.  The monitor just stops getting a signal.  However, if you hold down F8 during boot and chose VGA mode, you can use Windows in VGA mode.  The monitor being used is a Sony Multiscan200ES.
Once in Windows, if you look under device manager, you'll see a listing of Unknown and under that it lists nVidia GeForce4 MX Integrated CPU.
So, I've tried the following fixes:
    1) Uninstalled all chipset & viideo drivers, reboot, reinstall chipset drivers, reboot, reinstall video driver, reboot.  BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
    2) Uninstall video driver, reboot.  Windows starts under the generic driver.  I install the video driver, reboot, BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH.
    3)  Figuring there had to be an easier solution to this problem, I installed an ATI Radeon 8500 card that I had laying around (I know this card works) figuring that I'll just sidestep the whole video driver issue by not using the onboard video.  Things just aren't that easy because after I installed the card the machine won't even POST.  It turns on but nothing happens.  ARRRR!!!  I try reseating the card, nope - nothing.  I take the card out and use the onboard graphics to make sure everything is ok in BIOS.  I read that if the BIOS detects an AGP card it will automatically disable the onboard graphics but it doesn't seem like that's happening.  So I look around BIOS and there is no way to disable the onboard graphics.  I have it set to boot AGP first, etc. and nothing works.
I guess the last thing I can do is reformat the drive, reinstall windows, and reinstall everything else.  But I don't want to do this because the machine is all set up, been used for a while, and it takes so long to reinstall everything.
My question is this.  How can I either reinstall the video driver so it works or how can I install a video card so it works?  Ideas???

I'm going to hunt over at nVidia's website to see if they have a cleaner utility (ATI does for its Radeon drivers - rids the system of every last trace).
nVidia don't need a cleaner utility cos their software is better written!
stab in the dark - the vga lead is connected to PRIMARY vga port?
go to add/remove programs and Remove "Nvidia Display Driver" in Safe mode
restart your computer and it should boot into VGA mode, and prompt with Found New Hardware. cancel this.
the nvidia software will leave the install stuff on your computer, usually in C:\NVIDIA. browse to here and find and run the setup.exe to reinstall the software.
if its been working before, then its probably not a memory issue - it might also be worth making sure the latest nforce drivers (3.13) are installed too.
oh and customers usually WON'T admit to messing around to stuff they shouldn't - in my experience anyway!!

  • Mega 180 TV Card---the straight scoop...

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what TV card and what TV card drivers work well in the Mega 180.
After a whole bunch of trial and error----here's what seems to be the scoop. the dope, the real deal----to the best of my knowledge.....
---there is a mixup with TV Tuner Cards----two versions of the 8606 card
8606-10---Regular card----with an FM tuner---not really made for the MEGA----and....
8606-40 MEGA TV card----without the tuner (cuz your Mega already has one) and made especially for the MEGA
    Further confusion:
If you have a Mega 180------ONLY use the TV Tuner drivers on the Mega 180 Install disk----NOT the regular drivers that are included with the MEGA TV card as this card will also work on the older Mega 651's and those drivers are basically for it.
In other words---DON'T use the Win Cinema Install disk that comes with the Mega TV Card if you have the Mega 180...
AND---guess what----those TV card drivers on the Mega 180 install disk only become visible in the main install menu when you have the card installed----they don't automatically appear so you know you need to use THOSE drivers vice the ones included with the card.
AND---the drivers only seem to work in conjunction with Media Center III!
It would be nice if MSI put out a little help sheet with some of this info....
    Help----and a good manual-----what a concept......

It's installed to C: with the card readers on E: and F:   Also, not only is the intervideo software not working but also Media Center III.  If I can get Media Center III stable I'd be satisfied.
I've also tried removing the Radeon 9200SE but that didn't resolve the problem.  Next I suppose I'll try some other capture/viewing software to see if it runs stable.  Thanks for the help so far.

  • ATI Radeon HD 3870 Graphics Card for Mac debuts

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,147040-c,graphicsboards/article.html
AMD on Thursday announced the ATI Radeon HD 3870 for Mac and PC Edition. The new card is expected to ship at the end of June for US$219.
The card works in the PCI Express slots of both first-generation and second-generation Mac Pro systems, and features 512MB of 256-bit GDDR4 frame buffer memory and 320 stream processors. It's designed as a graphics upgrade for Mac Pros -- even those that may have come equipped with the Nvidia GeForce 8800 card introduced earlier this year. AMD claims its new Radeon card runs faster and costs less than the GeForce 8800 GT, which is only available from the Apple Store and costs $279.
The graphics processor can crank up to 70 gigabytes per second bandwidth using a 775MHz engine. That translates, according to AMD's internal benchmarks, into *30 to 180 percent better performance in Apple's Motion 3 software than the GeForce 8800*; slow Motion performance has been an Achilles' heel of Nvidia's rival card since its introduction.
    http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonhd3800/macpc/index.html

    Rob has it benchmarked:
    http://www.barefeats.com/harper16.html
I'm going to definitely buy this as soon as it's online. I'll order it through Rob's link too to reward him for all the work he's done on this issue.
Now, how about a refund on my GeForce 8800 upgrade, Apple?
