ATI Radeon HD2600 with FCP HD
Hi,
Will this card enable me to edit HD video with FCP?
It's part a system I'm thinking about buying from someone, my first mac.
It's a 24" model. How easy is it to upgrade the video card, if that's needed?
Thanks,
Tim
It's a 24" model.
I take it you are talking about an iMac? You can't upgrade the video card on that model.
Most of FCP will run on it as it is, though Color will probably be dog slow.
Consider also that the iMac is limited to using USB and FireWire connections so you will be limited to working with DV, HDV and AVCHD video formats. There's no way to add a capture card.

Mac Pro with ATI Radeon HD2600, can't get Vista Aero to work
Hi from Newbie
I have a Mac Pro with Vista bootcamp installed, ATI Radeon HD2600, 512 mb of video ram, and 8 gb's of RAM, but I can't get Vista Aero mode to work. The driver doesn't specify WDDM, could this be the problem? Can I find a compatible driver elsewhere?
Thanks in advance. You need to install drivers from ATI directly.
http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
And when upgrading drivers, it helps to use Driver Sweeper and follow some recommended steps:
http://evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=396474
(applies to any driver but written with Nvidia in mind)
Of course to get full benefit of RAM, and power of your system, you need 64-bit version. -
Ok....so i've posted this question in a different way, and i gotten several "scratch the surface" answers from people just saying to install "Ati catalyst", or insert the os x dvd and run set up.exe, and update to boot camp 3.1 or 3.2...while these all seem like great suggestions, I am finding myself needing more specific direction or "hand holding" so to speak.....here is the MAIN problem...
The Background/history
I used boot camp (3.0, and i found updates for 3.1 for imac and for windows, but can't find for mac pro, AND they all are ".exe" files which run on windows..which as you'll see is the big part of my problem...So I recently updated my mac pro (with the ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic PCIe card with 10.6.7 from 10.5.8. I created a single partitioned drive to install windows 7 professional 64 bit. The download software function didn't work (Thanks, APPLE for that poor level of support) so have to select the option that i have already downloaded, or have other media with the drivers already on it....i restarted with the windows 7 disk in....
The installation of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
So the installation of windows 7 seemed to go flawlessly, was able to use my existing 23" hd apple cinema display (so somehow it has drivers that work with the graphics card, or maybe the motherboard's on board video components) and i select english, and install now, custom, blah, blah, blah...installation causes a few reboots, then restarts ultimately back in os x since that is the default boot os i use on this desk top and have to do the "opt" button to select booting in windows....so when i try restarting in windows, now using the actual boot drive on which i am installing it, it ran through another reboot or two, but then after that, my display goes black.... in the communities, the solution sounds super simple... "go download the ATI catalyst for the black screen problem....windows 7 doesn't have device drivers that work with the ATI radeon hd2600...no problem, just go download and install...."
The problem, re-emphasized : I cannot even finish the install for windows, because of this driver problem....i cannot see anything....I have tried to reboot in safe mode, and that then seems to invoke whatever basic drivers that do work, likely through the motherboards onboard video vs the actual graphic card, and the screen works and says that it's wanting to complete the installation, so i'm thinking awesome this is gonna work....and then.. "windows installation was not completed and cannot be completed in SAFE MODE, need to restart, blah, blah, blah" pops up...and forces reboot...so Safe Mode allows me to see, but won't allow me to finish the install of windows 7...and without completing the install i can't run (ranther I DONT KNOW HOW TO) any of the various .exe files everyone is telling me are the solutions to my problem...like update 3.1 and 3.2 bootcamp...they're all .exe files? not sure why, because bootcamp runs in 10.6.7 i thought, but whatever...it needs running Windows to execute...then the ATI radeon hd2600 driver for windows 7 that i downloaded from the site has an installation program that is an .exe file, which needs windows to run... Does this make sense, why i can't just use these fixes, that seem to be the only fixes out there....so can someone school me step by step here (not just the highlights) of how to update bootcamp, and how to install the ati radeon driver without having been able to complete the windows 7 installation because the monitor goes and stays black????
This is so very frustrating for the record...and any substantial help "not just go download this..." would be immensely appreciated.
Some other things i've been told to try that i've tried and nothing seems to happen as i'm told it will....
---I've been told to install the osx dvd and run "setup.exe" - AGAIN...it's an exe file...and 2 - when i put in the os x file it just wants to re install 10.6...so need more help if this is even a real solution to understand how to make it work...
---I've been told to update boot camp to 3.1 and/or 3.2 from 3.0, using Apple Software Update....Well, my software update is saying everything is up to date and there is nothing new to download at all, and when i reverify the bootcamp version it is still only 3.0.2...and again downloading the updates from www.apple.com/support/ for 3.1 and 3.2...all of those are .exe files...need windows to run them...again, refer to the problem described in detail above...
---I've been referred to the black screen on imac early 2011 thread saying it should fix my problem...and reading it it SEEMED like the most promising resolution...it involves creating a boot flash drive for windows 7 and an xml file that sets the imac drivers to auto install during the windows installation..and it got me farther than anything else..but still ultimately ended up in the darned black screen...my assumption is that it's because it's for imac and not mac pro so not ati-radeon specific drivers....ok....that's enough..please...anyone who thinks they can help...your help is desperately needed...thanks so much in advance!hey Hatter, thanks so much for getting back...so just to be super clear...is there no way to install the drivers using an exe file given my current state? no way to do it with command prompt or something? if can make work with existing card, i'd prefer it...now when you say it's 'toast' how do you mean? it works well with the os x partitions and always has...so i'm not sure i follow, just want to be clear...
Now to your point of starting with only the one drive installed...so i would put that bootcamp drive in bay 1 and disconnect the rest...i'm not totally sure what you're suggesting the effect should be of doing this? just that i'm just installing windows without the bootcamp deal...but if windows 7 doesn't support the ati radeon hd2600, it still will go black screen no? or you're saying it will run video through the motherboard if it's the only bootdrive, and will run all the way through the windows install without trying to switch over to the hd2600? (slrry flr these questions..just really want to make sure i understand what you're telling me..thanks so much for your patience and help by the way...it's very greatly appreciated...your support is priceless!
So now, assuming none of the above is possible...referring now to the ati 5770 that you referred to...you mention it works with 10.6 well, and that windows 7 supports it ...2 questions on that
1) Windows 7 supports" meaning, out of the box windows 7 supports it? or will i have to install drivers still through some update, because again, if that's how i have to do it, then won't work, cuz can't start windows to see anything to install any drivers or run any thing at all...so it would have to just work with initial installation.
2)hardware wise for my Mac Pro 3,1...intel dual quad core xeon, blah blah....will this card work? it's a PCIe and should fit on my board no prob, etc? -

T500 ATI Radeon issue with Alibre Designer 11.2
Note - I uploaded a video showing the symptom to Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTg3piX-H8I
I have a Thinkpad T500 the switchable graphics ATI Radeon 3450 for accelerated 3D/OpenGL support. I got this to be able to run CAD software. Unfortunately, there is a bug and Alibre Designer will not render reference lines when used with the ATI Radeon driver. This is not good, as reference lines are very much needed while drawing designs. The problem goes away if I switch to the slower Intel Media graphics driver.
I have installed the very latest ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center, per Lenovo (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7vd541ww.txt) -- the CCC currently shows:
Item Value
Driver Packaging Version 8.563.2.1-090401a-079160c-Lenovo
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 7.01.01.849
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MPCH INE/SYSTEM/ControlSe
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0630
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.8306
Catalyst® Control Center Version 2009.0401.1328.22301Well, with Alibre's help, we tried turning off the switchable graphics per:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70495#g5
After the first reboot, the hardware was recognized, but the ATI driver was not properly loaded; but after the second reboots, the ATI driver was installed correctly. Then, Alibre worked correctly.
It appears that the switchable graphics driver support is interfering with the proper operation of the underlying ATI driver. I'm sad to lose switchable graphics support, but at least I can work! -
ATI Radeon 9000 with a K7T Turbo2
I have a K7T Turbo2 running AMD XP 2100+.
I had a Asus GeForce4 MX 440 with 8xAGP 64MB. Then swapped it out for a MS ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 128MB. I installed it, after the installation, it rebooted, then after the Windows XP Home Edition screen, it blacks out. ;( Can anybody tell me why? I tried even the ATI driver too, and same thing. My board handles the max of 4xAGP. Could that be it? Either driver I use, I get the same result. Can someone help me? ) Thanks.can you access XP in safe mode? It could be the refresh rate set itself too high. Try going into the display control panel and setting it back to the minimum settings at 60hz, reboot, and it should be fine if that is the problem.

Two Radeons 3870 with FCP and Motion?
Hi!
Have you tried to use two 3870 with FCP and Motion?
I just wanted to have all 512MB of video RAM for my canvas and use the second card with my Matrox MXO to display broadcast preview.
I know it could be risky, but as I remember earlier the problems shows only while rendering some of the plugins in FCP (my test was on 2006).
Do you have any experience with pair of 3870 cards?
I've just ordered two of them:)
regards
artiFrom what I've read on this forum, FCP doesn't work properly with two video cards.

ATI Radeon Card with 2 DVI LCD Display
At last, I made a big step forward by purchasing the new MP. I already have a 23" Apple Display and intend to buy another DVI display (non Apple). How do I connect both LCD screen to the ATI Radeon card? Do I need to purchase any adaptor?
Hi SamsonSimon;
Here are the specs on the ATI Radeon card;
ATI Radeon HD 4870 includes two video ports: one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port. This allows you to connect both the 24-inch Apple LED Cinema Display or another Mini DisplayPort-based display, and a DVI-based display such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display. Display adapters are available to connect VGA displays.
Since it says it has two ports, one Mini DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port, it would seem you are going to need an adapter for the second LCD screen.

Anybody running ATI Radeon 5770HD with an Original MacPro?
Id be interest to how much success users are having running an Original MacPro 2006 (1,1) with the 5770HD graphics card... Im using one with mine, but occasionally get Kernel Crashes... however Im running FCPX & Motion 5 plus DVDSP4, Cinema Tools (and FCS3 made me install Qmaster even though I have it built in, in Compressor 4). Nothing else on my machine.
Panics can be due to a number of issues. Drivers, hardware, heat even. Crashes are entirely different from a kernel panic.
I'd be concerned with system maintenance and repair, and how well you cloned your system. Any crash or freeze can cause directory corruption requiring action and not just a Safe boot or restart to resolve.

ATi Radeon HD2600 firmware update
I keep getting this as an update - I download, install and get the "installed successfully" message. Anyone else keep seeing this happen?
Check to make sure you have the iMac update 1.21(10.4) or 10.4.11 or iMac update 1.3(10.5) or 10.5.1 inatalled prior to running the graphics update.

ATI Radeon 5770 for 2008 Mac Pro
I just bought this card for my 2008 mac pro. According to the Apple store's Q&A, this card should work fine with my computer. I am curious if this is just a simple swap, or if I need to attach any additional power cable to the mother board.
Also, is it possible to use this card and the ATI Radeon HD2600 simultaneously on my computer? I have a USB card and a black magic HDMI in/out card I use for video already installed. Just want to make sure I won't pull too much power and overheat.
Thanks!I had basically the same problem with trying to run the Mac 5770 with a Mac/PC 3870 in my 2008 Octo 3.1 MP. I was hoping I could use the component output on the 3870 (using the 9 pin ATI adapter that has component, s-video and composite outputs) for my Sony CRT Pro monitor and using the DVI to run a large screen TV for Netflicks, etc, or another smaller digital monitor. Plus, I was keeping my fingers crossed that Apple's "Color" application wouldn't see the 3850 if I had the AV switcher turning the connections off when not in use while editing in FCP Studio (Color will usually not launch if it "sees" two graphics cards connected to monitors).
Apparently the 5770 firmware has a conflict with other ATI cards: 2600, 3850 and maybe even 4870. I thought they would have a better chance of working together being ATI, but apparently not. Another user posted that he was able to get a NVIDIA GT 120 working fine with the ATI 5770 after having the same issues with the ATI 2600, but whether Color will launch is another question. I suppose I can try some older cheaper NVIDIA's maybe even some with analog outputs that the 3870 had if I could find one? Any suggestions or success stories in running a second card with the 5770?
Finally, I removed the 3870 to see how the 5770 would work by itself: the screen start-up time went from several minutes to seconds. Both monitors are very snappy and working fine with one 23" CD in the DVI port and the other23" CD using the mini-display port adapter (just the single $29 one, not dual DVI $99 type).
I don't play games or do much 3D, so I hope it was worth the upgrade price, as the 3870 had a passive cooler, was rock solid in every aspect and ran Core apps fast, but it didn't have OpenCL, so I'm hoping to see some improvement across the board in my graphics, especially the Adobe CS5 Suite. -
ATI Radeon HD 2600 firmware update and others
Hi all,
About a month ago my 1 month old 2.4 imac was replaced with the 2.66 on account of noise after the firmware update. I do have quite a few software updates now and I am a bit concerned about updating them. I am also very new to using a MAC.
1. ATI Radeon HD2600 which updates the firmware ( I have absolutely no problems with graphics)
should I leave well enough alone and NOT update.
2. Mac OSX update to 10.5.3 (I am not having any issues now running 10.5.2}
3. Airport Utility 5.3.2 and airport base station Agent (is this what is built into my computer?]
4 iTunes 7.6.2
5. Quicktime 7.5
6 Pro Application Update 2006-02 { I do not have any of the programs that this update mentions}
Has anyone updated any of these same updates and experienced problems. Have not seen posts concerning the Radeon Update
I have been reading some posts about the 10.5.3
Just wondering if I should leave well enough alone and not do any of these. Computer has been great so far.
Thanks in advance.
Message was edited by: iJancyThese are varied and different updates that you have listed all together; one is an update for the graphic hardware on your Mac, a few are updates to Mac OS X itself and lastly there are a couple which update individual applications/technologies on your Mac.
Do you have a clone backup of your Mac's current situation? If so, with the exception of the hardware update, implementing each update individually would allow you to evaluate the update and "roll back" to your clone if it was unsatisfactory.
Bare in mind that future updates to Mac OS X or the primary applications/technologies on your Mac may well require that these previous updates have been installed. There is the possibility that Software Update will not notify/alert you of an update available because the previous update has not been installed.
I have every update/upgrade applicable to my particular iMac model installed. I have no issues and have never had any issues. -
ATI Raedon HD2600 or 2600 Pro?
Hello,
My 24", 2.4 ghz aluminum iMac, purchased in August 2007, has the ATI Radeon HD2600 graphics card with 265 mb of RAM. Is this different than the ATI Radeon HD2600 Pro card that requires the firmware update?
I downloaded & installed all the appropriate updates (10.4.11, 1.2.1) and when I downloaded the firmware update & tried to install it, the machine said it did not need it.
Are there 2 cards - the HD 2600 & the HD 2600 Pro? If so, when did the "Pro" card begin to be used? My machine is only 3 months old!
bub_starOnly some of the HD 2600 cards require the update, but their specifications are all the same. Your iMac has the same video card still shipping with the iMac.... technology hasn't left you behind just yet
It seems if the Video RAM on your iMac w/HD 2600 card is from a certain vendor, THEN you need the update.

Problem between a Mac Pro / 01-2007 and ATI Radeon X1900XT
Hello,
My friend has bought a second hand ATI Radeon X1900XT with a fan Zalmann Fatality VC-ZV9 and has the following problems. She can switch on her computer without any problem and the card works fine (Photoshop, ...) As soon as she launches Secondlife client, the screen gets black few minutes after, and if she tries to switch off and on the screen, it says "No signal" anologic or digital. This card is reported to work very well with Secondlife. It can't be overheat, since it comes very quickly, and just after the crash, she can touch the card which is not hot. The fan works fine. How can I investigate to find out what goes wrong with this card ? Her computer is a Mac Pro bought in January 2007 with 3 Gb RAM and Leopard. The problems has occured before 10.5.3 version of Leopard was installed. I've made a test of the Video Memory with Techtool Deluxe and it didn't find any problem.
Thank youI think I'm having a similar problem: running a Mac Pro/ATI Radeon X1900XT. Was having issues with general artifacts that seemed to come and go randomly. The machine got very hot one day when the AC was not on and the office was closed: random artifact "pixel dots" became lines on the screen, and then the entire screen just went black.
I had to do a hard shut down, and it's happened several times since. When I pulled the ATI card out, there was considerable dust built up at the intake which I cleaned out. It hasn't blacked out again, but the artifacts remain on the screen.
I suspect the card is about to die, but was trying to see if anyone else had this experience? Also, if anyone recommends replacing it with the same card, or if there is a better recommendation? I do general design and photo editing, no gaming and nothing very intense.
Thanks for the help!! -
Arch Noodle ATI Radeon 7000 Scroll Wheel
Hi,
I'm at a lose here would much appreciate any help.
I've done a new Arch installation and my screen is not nice and Scroll wheel is not working.
I went looking for /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it is not there.
I have two graphic cards: one built into MB other is ATI Radeon 7000 with TVout (this is the one I'v connected my Monitor)
I did xorgcfg but I cant find ATi drivers in the config list.
I've done a lot of searches but not yet sure how to go about this.
(I've installed Mandrake 2006 and It found ATi and due to this I think my HW is ok)
