ATI Radeon X1900 good for single 1.8 G5?

I want to upgrade my single 1.8 G5's video card, I have been reading alot about the x1900, but I'm not sure if that is the card for me. Does it play well with my config?
If not which one could you recommend?
Thanks in advance.

Your G5 has the 8X AGP graphics slot.
The X1900 is specifically for the Dual core G5s using the PCI-e 16X slot for graphics, so this card won't work in your system.
I beleive there are threads regarding AGP upgrades, and I think people have been happy with the ATI X800, but please check - I don't have an AGP system.
But just got my X1900 for my G5, and so far its a vast improvement over the nvidia 6600, for those interested.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT only for MacPro?

I Just noticed this this morning at Apple's Online Store ( US )
"ATI Radeon X1900 XT Graphics Upgrade Kit US$ 399.00"
I wonder if this will work in the G5 with Dual Cores ( and Quad ) PCIe ?

Ok thanks Jewell, What a Bugger eh?
X800XT for PCI-X G5's and ATI Radeon X1900 XT for MacPro's and nothing for the PCI-E last generation G5's! (unless you BTO).
I have seen your posts here about the lack of video card upgrades for the Quad, and I feel for you ... it's got to be exasperating !!
It will not unfortunately. Its to do with the way
video cards are recognised by the host system and the
    x1900 is for MacPro only.
    However.
Joe Schorr has confirmed in these forums that ATI
will be releasing a dual-core G5 edition of the x1900
(?) card which would finally make this Apple's first
video upgrade card since the dual-core G5 (quads)
were launched in October 05. Way to go Apple...
I read your repost of it.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT driver for MacPro

I put an ATI Radeon X1900 XT for MacPro in my 2 x 3 GHz MacPro. It displays only 1280 x 800 on my 30" Cinema. Do I need to install a driver, and if so, where to get the driver since card did not come with CD and AMD site has not posted a driver?
    2 x 3 GHz MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    zspike --
You don't need drivers -- they're built in to the OS. However, it would be nice to use the ATi displays panel, so you can turn on various app-specific speed settings and features like full-screen antialiasing.
Now, version 4.5.9 of ATi Displays is a Universal Binary, but ATi in their infinite wisdom have made it so that it WILL NOT install on a Mac Pro, only a G5.
But there's a way around this:
    http://forum.macbidouille.com/index.php?showtopic=199963
Have a look at post No. 8. Simply put the displays.app in your /Applications/Utilities folder, and run it from there. Runs no problem. I couldn't get the Prefs Pane to work, but all that does is launch the Displays.app
    Have fun!

  • What is a good replacement for the ATI Radeon X1900 XT on a late 2007 Mac Pro

I recently took my late 2007 Mac Pro to the Apple Store because it was running quite loud.  They diagnosed the problem as the fan on the ATI Radeon x1900 XT video card.  Whie the card works fine otherwise, I was thinking of replacing it.  I noticed some online recommendations that I need to upgrade to perhaps the Radeo HD 4870 if I want to install FCP X on this machine.  I do use the Mac Pro for video editing, but haven't switched yet to FCP X.  Anyone have a suggestion on a replcement video card that will work both on this machine and will be compatible with FCP X.
    Thanks for any advice.

I want to install a helicopter simulator into my MacPro1,1 with ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB and Open GL 1.7.7. Recommended system requirements for the heli simulator are: OpenGL Version 2.1 compatible 3D-graphics card from NVIDIA or ATI with 512MB (at least as fast as NVIDIA 8600, 9400 or ATI Radeon HD 2400). Is there such a graphics card available that will work in my Mac Pro?

Are you really still running 10.6.3? you will need 10.6.5+ so do that and make a clone.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 worth it for only FCP and Color?

    Hello,
I've been looking around these posts for a while and I can't seem to find this specific answer, so I apologize if my question has been asked already.
I am looking to purchase a MacPro tower. I don't use Motion. I don't play video games. I don't need 8 zillion giant monitors. I intend to use the computer mainly for Final Cut Pro 6.0 and probably a fair amount of Color as well.
With this being the case, what are the benefits of the
ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB Graphics Card, over the
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB Graphics Card? Is it really worth the money? I've seen some posts that say you won't see a difference in FCP, but is this also true for Color? And if so, what exactly will the difference be?
    Thanks,

Here's what they said at the Color board...
With anything less than an ATI x1900...you may experience issues such as lack of realtime playback, missing support for 10-bit images and 2K frame sizes, no float support for your grade settings.
For this version of Color, ATI is the way to go. I wouldn't go so far as to say an Nvidia card gives you a crippled version of the program, but it's close.

  • Need Power Connector Cable for ATI Radeon X1900 XT

I need the 6pin power connector/cable for my ATI Radeon X1900 XT to work with my Mac Pro.
I can't use the card as I lost the small cable pior to installation and now I can't find one anywhere.
It is the 6 pin cable that connects into the Radeon X1900 XT and the other end into the Mac Pro motherboard.
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you

  • Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT and ATI Radeon X1900 XT

I have a Mac Pro 2,1 running 10.6.1 and BootCamp.
I had a Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT video card in it and it ran well under BootCamp.
    I installed a ATI Radeon X1900 XT.
Under BootCamp the 2 cards seem incompatible, with an error message that the driver on the Nvidia card has been disables due to an incompatibility with the other card.
Is there a solution for this?
If I wanted 2 cards inside would they both need to be the ATI's or Nvidia's?
    Thanks

Hi I would maybe get a Apple Upgrade Kit the GT 120 is 512MB's & dose not use all 16 lanes as it like to make you think & will work on 2006 Mac Pro's at $149.00 I would say if you just want more displays get two & eBay your old cards. Please know if you game you will want more power but if only for more displays this 1 slot card is great.

  • Signal Problem MacPro 1.1 w/ATI Radeon X1900 XT

Before I run out an purchase a new video card wanted to run my issue by the forum. I have a MacPro 1.1 (early 2007) with a ATI Radeon X1900 XT card. When booting up recently my screen is blank, no signal. If I switch video ports it fires up.
Is this a video card issue or something else with the OS (running Mac OS X 10.6.6 (10J567))?
Would appreciate a little insight from the forum.
    Thanks,
    Koyangie

    1. There was a replacement program that ended 1/31/2011 for some X1900
    2. Any owner by know should have known and been doing a good deep cleaning for dust, and upping the system fans a tiny notch (900 rpm is quiet but more efficient) to keep more air circulating
    3. While you can't directly measure GPU temps, you can with other sensors
    4. Do you hear the video card fans or system fans working hard?
Poor design with the cooling chamber on X1900 made it a dust magnet and headache.

  • ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed?

I think my ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB graphics card has failed...
This is a MacPro 1,1 (2006). We're on our yacht in a French territory, South Pacific, so local support is non-obtainium. I would appreciate any advice on how I can confirm my graphics card is dead.
I have only 23" Apple Cinema Display for testing. The display works great on MBP, so that end is good.
The MacPro seems to boot normally - AFAIK based on startup sounds, fan, RAM LED diagnostic lights.
    Suggestions?

Case A) the screen goes blank at the login screen
invoke Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key at Startup).
This performs a five minutes or so Disk Utility ( Repair Disk) on the boot drive, then demands your userId and password, even if you normally auto-login.
Safe Mode only loads the absolutely essential Drivers, and the graphics drivers are not considered essential. So screen re-draw may be slow, but you can check your email, surf a little, do many operations that do not require graphics acceleration.
    Edit movies? Probably not.
Case B) your screen completely blank
If the power-on light flashes in a pattern, that indicates not enough good RAM to start up.
If no power light flashing, you need some function you can invoke that will show a non-graphics result.
The Caps Lock light on the keyboard is under software Control. If it works, at least the SMC controller that talks to the keyboard is working.
Holding down Control while pressing the Eject key on the keyboard brings up this familiar dialog box, whether you can see it or not:
    any key except:
    R for Restart;
    S for Sleep;
    Esc for cancel;
and return for the default Shut Down
should cause the System Beep sound. S should Sleep it, and the power light should shortly indicate that it is sleeping. Any key will then wake it up.

  • Mac Pro Early (2008) and ATI Radeon X1900 XT

Hey, I recently got the new Mac Pro (2008), and wanted to put my old ATI Radeon X1900 XT in my new machine, however when i put it in the extra wide x16 PCIe 2.0 slot, secured it and fired up my machine, the screen remained black and the fans went constantly on full speed, i swapped over the DVI to the other graphics card, ATI Radeon HD 2600 in slot 2. In system profiler it didn't recognise the X1900 XT.
According to the apple site, a PCIe 1.1 card can be put in a 2.0 slot and vice versa, so im not quite sure why its not working!
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated .
    Chris

It appears that you can run the 1900 xt in the new Mac Pro early 2008. Rob Morgan has benchmarked the results. Apparently it works well in gaming, however, it does not offer all that much over the stock 2600 xt for Motion performance. With Motion the 1900 XT was only a few seconds faster than 2600 XT. Good luck.

  • 128MB VRAM instead of 256MB on ATI Radeon x1900

I just bought and installed a graphic card ati radeon x1900 mac edition pci-express, 256 MB.
Easily installed and running. However, it registers only 128MB of VRAM.
On ati/amd homepage they this is a Mac issue. Anyone know of this problem or how to solve it?
Question is also if it is a soft- or hardware problem.
    Regards and thanx in advance.

    You're Welcome!
If you download ATIcellerator II, an overclocking utility, using the "Info tab" will tell you how much VRAM the software sees.
BTW, the software is benign, unless used for its purpose- overclocking your card. It's a good utility, but, if one plays with overclocking carelessly, well, you'll be shopping for a new card....

  • Crash with ATI Radeon X1900 XT and second HD display (DVI) ?

hi ! i have a realy tough one for you guys : since 3-4 days i've been getting this realy strange (and scary!) kernal panic screen / crashes / freeze with my macpro dual 2.66 with ati radeon X1900 xt.
the crashes keep coming while doing extensive work (video converting, renders) or just letting the macpro running doing nothing much all night long...
now this is what i found for now : if i disconect my 2nd display (samsung syncmaster 2493hm HD in DVI 1080p) it seem to be stable. when i reconnect it sometime it can run again with this 2nd display for a while but when i leave a render all night long the next morning it will be frozen, nothing on screen (all black).
after rebooting it get this crash report from the system :

  • GPU enhancement issues with ATI Radeon X1900 XT

Upon startup, PS CS4 turns off GPU enhancements and displays the following error message:
"Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software."
Problem is, according to all the research I've done, PS should be perfectly compatible with my Radeon X1900 XT card. To further complicate things, ATI does not appear to have driver updates for Radeon X1900 cards for Intel Macs on their website. Even a Google search doesn't seem to bring up any sites with the drivers. It's maddening!
Is anyone having similar problems, or can anyone offer advice? All Adobe and Apple support seem to recommend is updating my drivers, but of course that doesn't seem possible. Thanks!

I'm having a slightly different problem, but it fits in with what others are saying. I upgraded to CS4 the other day, and starting that night my system (a Mac Pro with the Radeon x1900 card) I have had issues with my display - that is, sometimes the display won't work after waking from sleep. The display is a 23" Cinema.
The rest of the system is fine (I have a laptop so I can peek in and control it remotely), and everything is just as I left it. The display itself responds to being turned on and off using the power button on the side (that is, the tiny light on the front turns on and off...). But the screen itself is pitch black, off entirely.
I took out the video card and it was, indeed, black on the intake with fine dust, so I cleaned that as best I could. That did not solve the problem, however.
Pull the plug to my desktop and plug it into my laptop, and it works just fine. Plug it back into the desktop...dead. The only thing that seems to fix it is shutting it down for a time. I don't know how long is required but it's more than a few minutes (so it's not a simple reset) and it's only been a few days and so far I've just gotten frustrated and left it over night - so it certainly could be related to cooling down.
Seems like Adobe is the culprit as the problem has *never* happened before, and has happened every day since the very day I installed CS4. I'd be reluctant to believe it...if I hadn't spent hours just upgrading to CS4 (I won't go into the legendary problems which plague Adobe's installers).
Given that when I bought this system a couple of years ago this was one of the few video cards I could choose, and it's the high-end of the bunch, there must be a lot of folks out there with this set-up plus CS4...
Sounds like the suggestion is to inhibit performance in CS4 so it doesn't fry my video card? I am running Temperature Monitor, but it doesn't show me that particular stat...

  • NVIDIA GeForce 120 or ATI Radeon X1900... which is better?

    Hi-
I currently have the ATI Radeon X1900 graphics card installed in my Mac Pro 2.26 Nehalem. I'm not having any issue's with the card except that the fans turn On quite frequently, and they're a little loud.
I'm not using it for any games, etc... My primary use is with Pro Tools (a music DAW application).
The ATI Radeon X1900 is running a Apple 30" display and a Sony Bravia 46" LCD.
If I replaced the ATI Radeon X1900 with a NVIDIA GeForce 120, would I be asking for trouble?
    Thanks in advance.

If I replaced the ATI Radeon X1900 with a NVIDIA GeForce 120, would I be asking for trouble?
If your Mac Pro came with ATI Radeon X1900, then it needs a card with EFI-32 firmware. The NVIDIA GeForce 120 has EFI-64 firmware, and won't work in the pre 2008 Mac Pro. The only upgrade for early Mac Pros is the ATI Radeon HD 4870
    <http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB999ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU2NTc>
(Despite what Apple says, it will work in any Mac Pro.)
You will need a Mini DisplayPort adapter for the second display,
