  • Boot Camp 4.0 - Atikmdag.sys crash

    Hi all,
I've got a BIG problem with Boot Camp 4.0 ATI driver.
I use a mac mini mid-2011 plugged to a Iiyama PLB2403WS monitor with a HDMI cable. That screen can display 1920x1200 mode.
When I boot the system on Mac OS X Lion, it works perfectly.
After using Boot Camp 4.0 to install Windows 7, the first boot worked well. I had no Aero effects.
But, when I installed Boot Camp Windows support drivers, it did not work anymore.
ATI drivers are guilty because it makes Windows 7 crash at each startup.
I get the famous BSOD displaying the filename Atikmdag.sys with error "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA".
I guess Apple and AMD must fix the ATI driver for the graphic chip "AMD Radeon 6630M".
When i plug the mac mini on my Samsung HDMI TV, it works great, Windows starts without crashing and i get the Aero effects.
And then when i plug it back to the Iiyama monitor, Windows crashes.
It's confusing and frustrating as I'm not willing to use my TV as the mac mini's monitor display.
Is there any way to make Apple or AMD fix that ?
Or has anyone of you succeeded in using same hardware than me ?
    Thanks for your help !

Well I found out by my own a way to overcome this problem
Here is the process to do under windows 7:
    1. Install Bootcamp drivers
    2. Windows 7 restarts the computer
    3. Blue Screen Of Death and the computer automatically restarts...
    4. At the restart, press and hold ALT key for boot selection. Choose Windows and then press F8 and then choose Safe Mode with Network activated
    5. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename atikmdag.sys to atikmdag.sys.old
    6. Download latest AMD Radeon Mobility driver for the graphic card (mine is AMD Radeon 6xxxM series)
    7. Install the driver
    8. Restart the computer
    9. Optional : delete file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\atikmdag.sys.old
It works ! You get the Aero effects, no more crash.
My mistake was uninstalling bootcamp's graphical driver beforetrying to install AMD's official drivers (that couldn't detect/recognize the hardware).
But if you don't uninstall bootcamp's graphics drivers, then use the official and latest AMD driver it detects the hardware and you can install the up-to-date driver that works.

  • Msiscsi.sys crashing in Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter x64

After enabling MPIO for ISCSI one of our HyperV Clustered Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter x64 servers has been unstable, crashing 3-5 times daily.  I've had to take it out of service and after analyzing the dump file it seems there is an issue with msiscsi.sys and overlapping drivers 'tssecsrv' and 'tdtcp.sys'   This all started occuring after we enabled MPIO to connect to our Promise Vessraid ISCSI using MultiPath I/O over iSCSI.  We are connecting using two intel network cards to 2 gigabit ports on the VessRaid.  Other than the Intel network drivers (v14.7 package version 11.0.103 7/14/2009) and Intel Matrix Storage Array 10R drivers, everything is Microsoft (OS, patches, iscsi initiator, HyperV, MPIO)  Any ideas and where to start?

  • BSOD occurs when SD card inserted. FASTFAT.SYS crashes.

I this will happen almost everytime if the machine has been in use for some time. Inserting an SD card (4GB Canon format) a BSOD is virtually guaranteed. After a new boot up it works fine but catastrophic if not since all info is lost and nothing is closed.
I looked at the dump file and the FASTFAT.SYS is the cause of the crash. This is a very old driver used in Windows 7 and there are numerous issues with it in many forums dating back even to XP. There are no crashes introduced by any other device or USB key/drive connected. Only the SD card.
I thought it may have be due to the USB controller being turned off for power conservation but even after removing the ability by toggling not to turn off to save power to the USB devices it still crashed the very next time I used it which was days later. The system was plugged in as well as it usually is.
I can do the same thing on my old notebook with its internal multicast reader running Window 7 32 bit and it does not have a problem. The Thinkpad does with Win 7 64bit. I am always conscious of a BSOD occurring if I dare plug in my camera card. This renders the port useless since I cannot afford regular crashes and a card reader externally may have to be used.

I had exactly the same problem and have managed to solve it, however it took me several sleepless nights.
The faulty driver my Card reader used was ver. 6.10.10.32 (according to info in Device manager). I found another driver on Lenovo's website (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/8axw02ww.exe ; ver. 6.20.11.42 dated 4th July 2012). What I did was install the new driver. During the installation process I found it was not digitally signed, but I continued the installation process anyway. Then, in Device manager, I chose the Card controller (in IDE ATA/ATAPI section) and clicked on Update driver. I chose manual installation and indicated the place where my driver was saved (by default: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\MULTICARD). Windows won't let you use the driver straight away as it lacks digital signature and here is how to cope with that: http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/how-to-install-use-unsigned-drivers-in-windows-vista-7-x64.... . I followed "Solution number 2" and the "Finding out what files to sign" section. If you do it carefully, your drivers will be signed automatically and the whole procedure will finish at this point.
The only difference is that my Card reader is now listed under Storage controllers, which changes nothing, in fact. I have tried using different SD cards and have not encountered the BSOD anymore.
    Hope you'll find that useful.
    Cheers,
    Robert

  • MSI KT4 Ultra based sys crashing/rebooting

Just Built a brand new machine with a KT4 Ultra, Athlon XP2000+, 512MB Corsair PC3200 Stick, ATi Radeon 8500 DV (64MB) card and a giant special edition hard drive from WD.
Love everything about the system - except it is clearly not functioning properly and I believe that I have isolated the problem down to the MOBO or problems associated there.
Problem is the system crashes in any taxing graphical situation.  (Since I've only had it built for about 3-4 days, now, I only have a few fairly limited examples so bear wtih me.)
2-3 minutes into either Quake III or Unreal Tournament 2003 Screen goes black and system crashes - automatically rebooting.  Problem also came up while trying to download latest AMD AGP sys file from AMD's site.  (That is, so far, the only non-gaming example of this happening).
I have tried absolutely everything I can think of, and even a number of things that a savvy friend of mine could think of.  Anyone else having this problem?  Anyone got any ideas at all, here.  Because this has got me totally frustrated.
    Thanks,
    Ben

BIOS is still what came with the board.  I have only seen that the first version of this BIOS is available.  I have looked for updated versions but I only see 1.0.  Is there another version of this BIOS available?  I would certainly love to try if it does exist.

  • VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys) crashing my NEW laptop and BSOD while gaming Windows 10

Recently I bought a new laptop, Lenovo Y50, and had no issues with it. I started playing a game called "Path of Exile" and while in the middle of the game it would freeze and then cause my laptop to crash into BSOD and give me the error message VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys) which looked like this:
    Link to image
    https://communities.intel.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-255820-239358/bsod2.jpg
I have searched through for assistance but found no resolution in the attempts I made. The most recent attempt was uninstalling the Intel Driver but that just lowered my FPS entirely. So I reinstalled and the problem came up again and then I foolishly shut my laptop off before it hit the BSOD and when I booted it back up then screen was all black and not changing. Scared of ruining my new computer, I hard shut down the laptop once again and then it booted up normally, only that it was much slower. Have I damaged my laptop? If so, what steps do I need to take? And yes, I have insurance.

I have the same issue with my Y50 laptop after updating to windows 10. For me there is one more problem in the chrome browser: image shaking on videos and gifs..I also tried to clean install windows 10, remove and reinstall drivers for intel and nvidia with no result.Maybe intell will update the drivers soon...

  • N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr2: nvlddmk.sys crash on startup

Every time I start Windows, immediately after the starting windows logo I am getting a BSOD caused by nvlddmk.sys with bugcheck 0x116. I have tried graphic drivers 275 through to the latest beta 301 all with the same result, including the MSI versions.
Between each driver test, I used Driver Sweeper to clean the system. The pc will boot to windows when no drivers are loaded using the default W7 display.
GPU-Z reports the VGA BIOS as 70.24.0A, but MSI Live Update can't find a replacement BIOS, and this BIOS has been working up until now. GPU-Z can't read the sensors and reports the card as having 0MB memory, and running at 0Mhz.
I have been using this card without problems, apart from the occasional driver crash and TDR reset, since Feb 2011. The card idles at 27C and max load is 59C when it is working. I have cleaned the fans of dust and tried re-seating the card.
I have also run a Prime95 test and memTest with no problems reported, so I'm pretty sure that the graphics card is the problem.
I am unsure what the warranty period of the card with MSI is, but the company I bought it from only has a 1 year RMA period so I have exceed that.
Any suggestions as to what may be the problem and any possible solutions would be appreciated.

have you tried to do a new fresh OS installation?
have you tested the video card into another PC?
    Thanks for the reply.
I have tried a fresh O/S install with the same results.
I don't have a spare pc to plug it into, but should be able to try this next week.

  • Fastrack2k.sys crashes XP boot

I want to put a third HDD on IDE3 for audio use. To test this, I attatched an old Western Digital 102AA 10Gb HDD, created an array, and continued to boot. I get to the log in screen, enter through that and then the BSOD appeards, telling me that fastrak2k.sys has caused a problem.
So I detatched the HDD, rebooted. I then unistalled the promise drivers, and also removed them form the windows folder. I then rebooted, re-attatched the HDD and went through bootup. I found myself at the windows desktop, all ok, being asked for drivers for the promisehardware, as expected! I installed the originals from the floppy included with the motherboard, and my HDD was immediately available. I formatted it, partitioned, all without problems.
Then I rebooted. Unfortunately, the BSOD appeared again, with the same error.
I also tried the most up to date drivers - no difference. Anyone got any ideas?
    All help, as always, appreciated.
    Mark

Cable select was how it was jumpered. Will try without jumper tonight.
    Thanks

  • Trouble migrating users/ sys crash/reboot cycle

    Where to start...
Brand new Mac Pro. Trying to migrate two users from the old G5.
First attempt: Migration wizard crashes and starts an endless restart cycle. (machine keeps restarting over and over)
Second Attempt: Boot from install disk and erase and re-install OS 10.5 try once again with migration wizard. Same result. I am able to log in even after force quitting machine and run software updates. Still the machine crashes(restarts repeatedly) when switching users or for any random reason.
Third Attempt: Boot from install disk and erase and re-install OS 10.5. Create new user account, run software updates, fix permissions, Try to migrate just one user. Migration assistant crashes and restart cycle begins. Force Quit.

Hum... trial and error are often the best.
You can use BootCamp to put XP Pro on your boot drive and use a partition. That would let you run XP Pro natively. Fusion can be used by itself (seamless) and is just a Mac disk image. Or it can 'adopt' the native (BootCamp) partition.
So that is one project of its own, once you have things settled and working.
Before you do, I would keep the OEM drive as is, I would do that before even using Migration Assistant so you have a solid system you can use 'just in case.'
Not a fan of mirroring. I prefer diligent backups, and redundant. Plus Time Machine.
Your problems now could be from trying to use Migration Assistant.
I would say keeping your "home account" on another drive works for some, and then you just have the OS and applications on one drive to deal with. If anything happens to the system, your data isn't impacted. And it can help performance for some.
Backup any files you have now though, and either wipe the boot drive clean (erase) and reinstall the system, or use the Archive and Install. That should solve the problems introduced by MA and hopefully avoid the instability.
Booting from an alternate drive would let you easily repair the boot drive if needed, rather than use the DVD.
I would keep it simple for now.
So first, try putting OS X on another drive.
Photoshop: you want to have a scratch drive and memory. Audio, sometimes a mirror if you do live recording work and cannot afford to suffer even a (rare) drive failure. Though I feel backups and Time Machine might be enough.
And because of how Photoshop runs, a fast boot drive and having a scratch drive are paramount.
For performance, a stripped RAID also helps.
There are a couple pdf guides to storage and performance up on MacGurus, one addresses Photoshop specifically. http://www.macgurus.com

  • I think I've decided to give up on this board..P6N SLI-FI. Too many sys. crashes

I thought errantly I had a good board when I changed brands from Asus to this MSI board but apparently I was wrong. I've been having problems I've never seen on any of the Asus based systems I have. This MSI system has crashed twice already and is having serious HDD write problems.  With it outfitted the same as my Asus P5ND2-SLI, except with a faster processor P4 630 on the Asus and P4 650 on the MSI, it is sluggish playing Halo. Whereas the Asus system seems to fly through it with ease.
I don't know whats going on with it but I don't care to see that Blue crash screen again.
I haven't added or changed anything in how it is loaded. Programs are all the same. It even crashes with PowerDVD 4. A program that has been very good on all of the other systems I've used it on.  :(

So, you posted more threads but you weren't able to get the right solution. Well, that happens, unfortunatelly.
Now, just to keep things clear: did you start this topic just to inform us that you are giving up, or do you actually want new input?
If so, please provide full specifications of your power supply unit. Please create a signature, so that your specs are in all your posts. That makes our job a lot easier. You can make a sig through the Profile button.
Now, just one question to start with:
    - Did you install all chipset drivers?
I indicated I was thinking about it. But wasting $150 is too much to think about so I'm trying to make the best of this MSI product.

In the process of upgrading to Leopard, I had experienced bad mojo with multiple apps. I bombed off my MBP in an attempt to simplify the end result, only to discover I had corrupted my BackUp with bad management. All data was lost. Now the burning Q: how can I reload my "clean slate" iWeb with the pages I'd previously published under Tiger with my old system?

Search through your back ups for the Domain.sites (or Domain.sites2 if made with iWeb 2).
The file would be stored in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb
Without that file you'll need to start over.

Our terminal server is a Windows 2008 r2  sp1 based on VMWare 5.0. We have installed al the available updates on this Windows Server.
Any idea how to solve this problem?
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

Ok, I think I found the issue.
I installed JRE 7 Update 51 for 64-bit.  And Chrome does not have a 64-bit for Windows.
I went back and uninstalled this JRE version and instead installed the 32-bit version and now the Chrome plugin is working.
