ATM VP switching over MPLS

hi,
is it possible to do VP switching for AToM ?
ie:
R1---PVC1/200-----MPLS-----PVC2/200--R2

I believe you are trying to do VP Mode ATOM.
The below link has information on how to configure the same.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1829/products_feature_guide09186a008016102a.html#wp1271181
But this has platform dependencies I believe. Like in 7600 you will need a SIP/SPA, and in 7200 it works but i believe its single cell relay, just check on these features part as to what is your requirement when you implement VP mode.
HTH-Cheers,
Swaroop

  • Ask the Expert:Concepts, Configuration and Troubleshooting Layer 2 MPLS VPN – Any Transport over MPLS (AToM)

    With Vignesh R. P.
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about  concept, configuration and troubleshooting Layer 2 MPLS VPN - Any Transport over MPLS (AToM) with Vignesh R. P.
Cisco Any Transport over MPLS (AToM) is a solution for transporting Layer 2 packets over an MPLS backbone. It enables Service Providers to supply connectivity between customer sites with existing data link layer (Layer 2) networks via a single, integrated, packet-based network infrastructure: a Cisco MPLS network. Instead of using separate networks with network management environments, service providers can deliver Layer 2 connections over an MPLS backbone. AToM provides a common framework to encapsulate and transport supported Layer 2 traffic types over an MPLS network core.

    Hi Tenaro,
AToM stands for Any Transport over MPLS and it is Cisco's terminology used for Layer 2 MPLS VPN or Virtual Private Wire Service. It is basically a Layer 2 Point-to-Point Service. AToM basically supports various Layer 2 protocols like Ethernet, HDLC, PPP, ATM and Frame Relay.
The customer routers interconnect with the service provider routers at Layer 2. AToM eliminates the need for the legacy network from the service provider carrying these kinds of traffic and integrates this service into the MPLS network that already transports the MPLS VPN traffic.
AToM is an open standards-based architecture that uses the label switching architecture of MPLS and can be integrated into any network that is running MPLS. The advantage to the customer is that they do not need to change anything. Their routers that are connecting to the service provider routers can still use the same Layer 2 encapsulation type as before and do not need to run an IP routing protocol to the provider edge routers as in the MPLS VPN solution.
The service provider does not need to change anything on the provider (P) routers in the core of the MPLS network. The intelligence to support AToM sits entirely on the PE routers. The core label switching routers (LSRs) only switch labeled packets, whereas the edge LSRs impose and dispose of labels on the Layer 2 frames.
Whereas pseudowire is a connection between the PE routers and emulates a wire that is carrying Layer 2 frames. Pseudowires use tunneling. The Layer 2 frames are encapsulated into a labeled (MPLS) packet. The result is that the specific Layer 2 service—its operation and characteristics—is emulated across a Packet Switched Network.
Another technology that more or less achieves the result of AToM is L2TPV3. In the case of L2TPV3 Layer 2 frames are encapsulated into an IP packet instead of a labelled MPLS packet.
Hope the above explanation helps you. Kindly revert incase of further clarification required.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • TDM OVER MPLS

    Dears,
Is possible to run a TDM service over two STM-1 channelized by pseudowire circuit , what about the encapsulation
    Thanks

The move by service providers to migrate legacy networks based on time division multiplexing (TDM), Frame Relay, and ATM into intelligent, integrated, Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) packet-based networks capable of supporting converged network services is well under way.Refer URL

  • Point to Mulipoint L2VPN trunks over MPLS

Can we have trunk between more than 2 CE over MPLS in short we are looking for the point to multipoint MPLS L2 VPN where more than 2 CE will share the common ethernet segment over MPLS  to share the vlan database
Let me give more info @ solution which we are trying find out
CE1,CE2,CE3 & CE4 are the core switches at respective location, we are looking for the same vlan database between these core switches over the MPLS
CE1 will be connected to PE1
CE2 will be connected to PE2
CE3 will be connected to PE3
CE4 will be connected to PE4
so can we have the L2 vpn between CE1,CE2,CE3 & CE4 where the interface connected to respective PE's will be TRUNK ?

    hi
thanks for the pdf, I had tried the VPLS earlier. the circuit are coming up but I am not able to ping between CE's Vlan ip address although VC are up
    PE end config
    interface GigabitEthernet1/35
description L2 Connectivity to KBL039SW1 (TEMP)
    switchport
    switchport access vlan 100
    switchport mode dot1q-tunnel
    l2protocol-tunnel cdp
    CE-1 end config
    interface FastEthernet1/0/48
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    end
    int vlan 100
    ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0
other end vlan 100 ip address is 10.10.10.2 but not able to ping this ip address from CE-1
any guess what cpuld be the problem?

  • FR over MPLS

    Dears,
hope you support me understtanding the following:
    i have the following topology:
now i need CE1 and CE2 communicate to CE3 ( CE3 connected to mpls through ethernet)  over MPLS cloud  and be aware that mpls cloud working perfectly but my head stund at how to make CE1 and CE2 connect to customer VRF  on PE router through FR switch .
    please i need your support.
    thanks in advance

Check whether you have enabled IP CEF .

  • Cell-relay over MPLS using MGX 8850

we have existing ATM network using TDM links between MGX 8850 & have PVCs for voice & data traffic. We are planning to migrate the same over MPLS network
    following is the setup.
    MGX1----> PE1 ------>MPLS Cloud ------> PE2 ---->MGX2
As per this plan we will terminate existing TDM trunks to PE routers at both the end & map VPI/VCI values at PE routers for virtual ATM pvcs over MPLS cloud. We are using cell-relay over MPLS with VC mode. My query is, can we enable MPLS L3 & L2 on the same last mile in this scenario? We want to have one IP over ATM interface on same ATM interface at PE router & make that part of VRF & enable L3 MPLS VPN between all the sites for any to any data transfer. For data we don't want to use L2 MPLS as its any to any & it will end up with too many ATM PVCs.
In this setup PE router & MGX will be configured in NNI-NNI at both end. If we want to create one sub-interface at same ATM interface at PE router end, then that port need to be in UNI. Is it possible to use same ATM trunk port as NNI & UNI?
In MGX 8850 we have RPM,AXSM & VISM modules.

the following document should give you some idea,

  • Secondary Site SRST over MPLS

My company has IPT in our HQ. We have a secondary mfg location in the next town that is connected via a point-2-point T1, and we run VoIP over it. We have a PRI for PSTN access at the HQ. The 2nd location had POTS access until someone canceled them feeling they were unnecessary (pros and cons for that) At both locations we have SRST on a 1760-V.
Our location in CA (HQ is in WI) currently has its own PBX which is dying. I wish to roll out VoIP to it over MPLS, which I would then replace the P2P T1 and put it in the MPLS cloud too. I plan NOT to add a voice gateway at the CA location and just put a switch out there and route all calls through WI (Leaving a POTS line for fax and 911).
Management only worry is if the phones go out at the HQ, CA will be stranded. I said SRST would kick in and maintain call processing, until the batteries ran out. Only THEN everything would be down. (The other scenario would be the HQ building is compromised somehow).
Is it possible if a DR plan is in place that if an extended power loss occurs, or the HQ building is destroyed, that call routing could be established through our secondary location; since everything is connected via MPLS? I know POTS lines would need to be reestablished, but could the second WI location run SRST for the CA site?

I am not asking how to do it, just if it is possible down the road some time. This could sell the plan to management if it is possible.

  • HT5824 I switched over from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 & I haven't been able to receive any text messages from iPhones. Please help with turning my iMessage completely off..

I switched over from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S3 & I haven't been able to receive any text messages from iPhones. I have no problem sending the text messages but I'm not receivng any from iPhones at all. It has been about a week now that I'm having this problem. I've already tried fixing it myself and I also went into the sprint store, they tried everything as well. My last option was to contact Apple directly. Please help with turning my iMessage completely off so that I can receive my texts.

If you registered your iPhone with Apple using a support profile, try going to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregistering it.  Also, try changing the password associated with the Apple ID that you were using for iMessage.

  • Switch over between two SAP PI systems for downtime minimization

    Hello Colleagues,
with our interfaces over our SAP PI 7.31 (ABAP/Java) system we assume we will run in a 7x24 h runtime scenario in the future.
Regarding Business Continuity we have to think about solutions which help us to handle downtimes greater than 15 min. regarding Support Package upgrade, Kernel update, EHP, etc.
The first idea is to implement a second equal SAP PI productive system in parallel to the existing one.
On the sender side a switch over implementation like WebDispatcher, Load Balancer, etc.
For maintenance all Interface traffic can run over PI Nr. 1 and PI Nr. 2 can be updated.
Afterward all interfaces will switched to PI Nr. 2 and PI Nr. 1 can go in maintenance.
Could be this as suitable solution for SAP PI Business Continuity or do you know better solutions?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Jochen

    Hello Bernhard, Hello Holger,
many thanks for reply and providing these valuable information's.
The nZDM Concept is already known to me but it doesn’t answer all our questions.
Please let me explain a little more in detail.
Not currently but in the near future we assume some new interface over our SAP PI System will come with the requirement max. downtime lower thank 10 to 15 min. only allowed.
To be prepared regarding this possible scenario, we start thinking about possible different solutions.
First step was the nZDM Concept, of course. But it didn’t meet all our requirements regarding interface downtime.
    Some points are:
possible min. downtime is 30 min. and thus is over our requirements for interfaces
only for Update (and planed for Upgrade) the SAP PI application
all operating system and database related maintenance tasks are not covered by nZDM
all Hardware (Server, Storage, etc.) as well not covered by nZDM
Among others, because of these facts we start thinking about a second equal SAP PI system beside to existing productive one.
Than line 1 will take over the whole interface traffic and in the meantime the line 2 can go in maintenance. After finalizing the maintenance for SAP PI Nr. 2 we can switch the interface traffic to SAP PI Nr. 2 to get SAP PI Nr. 1 free for maintenance.
Regarding the topic “PI Federation” I found here in these documentation's several hints regarding this scenario (two SAP PI systems in an switch over scenario).
    PI Federation – An Overview
    among others  Page: 27
Business Continuity: Central PI integration Server with redundant Integration Server to be used in controlled switch over scenarios when upgrading or patching.
    or
How to Fast-Switch Integration Scenarios between SAP PI Runtimes Part II: Web Dispatcher
But I didn’t found any further detail documentation's regarding this approach.
The solution should fit as well to our existing hardware infrastructure.
For production we use an IBM (AIX) failover-cluster switch between our both data center.
Regarding our hardware infrastructure prerequisites and downtime requirements, which solution(s) do you recommend? Is PI Federation still an option?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Jochen

  • External and internal mikes are not automatically switching over either recording or on voice calls

My laptop model name is HP Pavilion dv4-1100ea which is shipped with Vista Home premium 32 bits and has got service pack 1.
Restored the laptop to factory setting since then I am having the following problems; I had the same problem when my laptop was brand new and whenever I reset the laptop to factory setting I get the following problems:
    1. External and internal mikes are not automatically switching over either in middle of the recording using sound recorder or while the call in progress on voice calls (skype):
Using the sound recorder if I start recording the sound with external  mike  and in-between  recording if I  switchover from external mike to inbuilt mike and later on when I play back I can only hear the sound  up till where I used the external mike during recording, after the switchover to inbuilt mike I cant hear any sound.
But if I start the recording with inbuilt mike and in between recording  if I plug in  the external mike and later on when I play back I can only hear the sound up till where I used the inbuilt mike during recording , after the switchover to external mike I cant hear any sound.
So in brief both my external and internal mikes are working fine, only problem is that if I start recording (using sound recorder) or voice call with one specific mike, I have to continue with it till the end. I can’t switchover to another mike in between the conversation (voice call) or recording, if I do so, I have to select the mike manually in chat software but while recording I cant even select manually because in laptop, it takes the mike whichever is in current use as default mike in recording tab(sound window). The green tick automatically (in recording device tab) switches over according to the use of mike. Though the green tick in the recording tab is switching over automatically according to use of mikes, its not picking up the sound after switch over during recording.
    2. And also when I click on recording device tab in sound window and plug in external mike, though the green tick automatically switchovers from internal to external mike, while I speak both internal and external mikes volume meter respond to the sound inputs by rising and falling but if I take out external mike, green tick goes to internal mike and when I speak only internal mike volume meter respond to sound rising up and down not the external mike.
To resolve the issue I have tried following steps with no luck:
1.I have checked the mikes(internal and external) properties, the both mike shows to be enabled in general tab, in level tab the volume is set to 100 and in advanced tab , all options are selected.
    2. In device manager I have got only one audio driver named as “IDT High definition Audio CODEC”. I have uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled it using scan for hardware option
    3. Uninstalled the audio driver in device manager and reinstalled the audio driver using recovery manager > advanced option> hardware driver re-installation.
    3. I have updated the BIOS(Insyde F.65, 12/02/2010).
    4. I tried to update the audio driver using below link but things went more worse so I did system restore (not factory setting though).

Sounds like you need to upgrade to the iPhone 5s
    The 5s has Touch ID
You can unlock your phone with your finger instead of typing in a key code
No swiping to unlock either, just touch the home button
You can enrol multiple fingers as well
Here is a video of it in action
    http://www.apple.com/iphone-5s/videos/#video-touch
Or wait and see what iPhone 6 has to offer
That being said, as desiel vdub posted if the phone is up to your face, the proximity sensor should turn the screen off
And when you lower the phone turn it back on again
Not sure about the phone locking when your on a call doesn't sound right

  • Switching over to Verizon family plan with iPhone 4S?

I'm switiching from T-mobile to Verizon for the iPhone. Now the rest of my family would like to switch over as well but only one of them wants the iPhone 4S with me. When I went through a mock purchase with the regular iPhone 4. apple.com told me I had to visit a store to set up my family plan and would not let me pre order anything unless I was starting anew verizon contract by myself without a family plan. Is ther a way around this and if not, what's next? Will the iPhone be available at a Verizon store so my family and I can set up all our phones at once? Or do My brother and I need to go to an apple store to get our iPhones and set up the plan, but from there where and when would the rest of my family get their phones? Can anyone shed any light on this or offer any insight? I'm new to the chaos of trying to get an iPhone, especially when switching carriers. Thanks.

I'm new to the chaos of trying to get an iPhone, especially when switching carriers.
IMO, your best bet is to go to a VZW store and work it all out there.  They can switch you over and get you the phones you want right there in the store.

I’m looking for a voicemail app that will automatically switch over after normal business hours and play an alternate voice-mail message. Does this currently exist?

Voicemail is through your carrier and on their equipment.
It's function and features is set by them, not your phone.

  • My phone is not switching from 4G over to WiFi. The phone has the network memorized its just not check marking the network and to switch over to WiFi. How can I fix this?

I have the iPhone 4S and the wifi was working on it earlier yesterday. I noticed that the wifi didn't kick on last night. It has the network memorized so it could connect automatically. The network name pops up and there's a signal but the spinning circle thing is there and it won't put a check mark by the network name. The wifi will pop up every now and then but only stay for a minute or less. Everyone else's phone and computer is connecting just fine but mine isn't. It won't switch over to WiFi from 4G. I've tried turning off the wifi on my phone. I've tried to forget the network and put in the password numerous of times and I tried to fix it by turning my phone on and off and that still didn't work. I'm hoping that this is a temporary thing but I don't know. What's a good way to fix this because seriously I would like to not use up all of my data for this kind of bull crap. So what's a good way to fix this?

I got the ATV hooked up to the WiFi after manually inputting the DHCP settings.
The ATV will not see iTunes from a PC on the same iTune network.  I guess you need an Apple computer for iTunes to connect to the ATV.
The biggest problem is that the iTunes store on the ATV is nonexistent I imagine because of competition/ monopolies in the UAE.  If I was in Lao, Burma, Thailand, Mozambique no problem.  40 Countries are listed and non of them are from the Middle East.  When I logon to the iTunes store on my PC it too does not allow for me to buy any movies or TV shows.  I am not sure why.
As for the iPad OS6, iTunes has an icon and when you click it you get iTune U or Podcast, no video content.  The App store works fine and they are always happy to take your money but no video content.
To top it all off YouTube is no longer licensed under OS6.0 and although I can get it on Google Chrome it is by no means as quick (for reasons unknown).
As I said before if I choose United States as my country the ATV hooks up and lets me browse TV and movies and watch trailers but not able to purchase (obviously).
So my conclusion is that ATV will not hook up to the iTune store in the UAE?  If this is incorrect please clue me in.
