ATT family plan & two iPhones

Hello
I have family plan with AT&T. I've bought iPhone right after world premiere. My girlfriend has different phone and her own number (obviously). Right now I would like to get new 3G iPhone (June-July). It's going to be connected with my girlfriends phone number. Later I would like to give my old iPhone to my girlfriend and transfer her number to my old iPhone, and I'll use new iPhone with my own phone number. Is it possible to "transfer" phone numbers between iPhones (without signing new contract with AT&T?

No one but Apple knows when the 3G iPhone will be released. It's not necessarily connected with the June firmware/app store release. All Apple has said is that it will be sometime in 2008 - that could be December for all we know.
As far as the number switching...I don't see why that wouldn't be possible. I would call AT&T. In any event, I don't see how switching numbers between phones would cause a contract renewal.
And why does your girlfriend get your old phone and YOU get the new one?

  • Is there a way to transfer contacts from my 1 iphone to my 2nd iphone, both of my att family plan

I want to transfer my contacts from my 4GS phone to my 3GS phone. Both are on my family plan on AT&T. My husband also has a 4G Iphone.
Thank you for your help. I've tried everything. katmay43

Another option is to use the free app My Contacts Backup.  This will back up your contacts on your 4S as an email attachement.  Send this email to yourself, open it on your 3GS, tap the attachment and it will import the contacts.

  • Family Plan: 2 iPhones - 1 Computer

I'm just about ready to buy my 2 iPhones (for me and my girlfriend), and I'm going for the family plan, plus unlimited texting for the both of us, which would be an additional $30, if I'm correct.
What I'm thinking about now is the activation. If it helps to answering my question, I own a 2nd generation Mid-end MacBook, my girlfriend a 1st generation iMac 17-inch. We don't live together.
Okay, now my question is how the activation of two iPhones work through the Family Plan using one computer (my MacBook). I'm guessing I plug in both iPhones to my USB ports, occupying the only two that's there, and I just go through the whole process like normal? But, the thing is, how does the second iPhone get activated? I mean, will activating one iPhone with a Family Plan detect the other one that I have plugged in? Or do I have to activate them individually?

I'm sorry if I'm not making any sense. It's hard for me to explain. I'm want to get through this activation thing w/o any issues whatsoever so I can just go ahead and use them immediately. I really don't want to have to go back to the Apple store or AT&T to sort this out.
    Thanks in advance.

I think this is going to work OK, considering what I've read above. But if you'd indulge me so I could clarify my understanding of this.
I've had an iPhone for a couple of months now, and my son, who lives in another city, is getting his mom an iPhone for Mother's Day. I have the single-user AT&T plan, of course. If I understand the above correctly, in order to add the second iPhone to my account and change the account to a Family Plan, I would:
    • Dock the new iPhone to my computer, using my iTunes account.
    • At the appropriate prompt, select the option to add the new iPhone to an existing account.
    • Follow directions to convert that account to a Family Plan (according to whatever options I choose).
    • Let the iPhone activate, then check my AT&T Web page to make sure my wife's name appears as the primary user.
    Correct?
I'll also need to add the ability for her iPhone to make calls to The Philippines, but I assume I'll do that by later calling AT&T and requesting that service.

  • Switching over to Verizon family plan with iPhone 4S?

I'm switiching from T-mobile to Verizon for the iPhone. Now the rest of my family would like to switch over as well but only one of them wants the iPhone 4S with me. When I went through a mock purchase with the regular iPhone 4. apple.com told me I had to visit a store to set up my family plan and would not let me pre order anything unless I was starting anew verizon contract by myself without a family plan. Is ther a way around this and if not, what's next? Will the iPhone be available at a Verizon store so my family and I can set up all our phones at once? Or do My brother and I need to go to an apple store to get our iPhones and set up the plan, but from there where and when would the rest of my family get their phones? Can anyone shed any light on this or offer any insight? I'm new to the chaos of trying to get an iPhone, especially when switching carriers. Thanks.

I'm new to the chaos of trying to get an iPhone, especially when switching carriers.
IMO, your best bet is to go to a VZW store and work it all out there.  They can switch you over and get you the phones you want right there in the store.

  • Family plan with iPhone 4

Is it possible to have a family plan with one iPhone and 3 other regular phones? Would it be the same price as a family plan of 4?

For existing subscribers, AT&T charges an $18 activation fee for the iPhone.
After using an original iPhone for a year purchasing a 3G, I was charged an $18 activation fee to activate the 3G. AT&T waived the activation fee for me when activating the iPhone 4.

  • Our family has two iphones how can my mac tell them a part?

yes my wife has had her iphone since Christmas I just received my iphone yesterday. Our Mac book pro synced my phone to all of her settings with her apps.  Is this a big deal or am i not understanding the technology of the iphone

how can my mac tell the apart?
by their serial number, or imei number or their udid number.
Our Mac book pro synced my phone to all of her settings with her apps.
That's because you set it up and told iTunes to use a backup from your wife's phone intead of setting it up as a new phone.

  • I have purchased a new iPhone on an upgrade from one of my family plan numbers, how do I activate it to use with another number on my account

I purchased a new iPhone through upgrading one of the phones on my att family plan. when I receive the phone how do i switch it to another phone number on my plan I want to use it with?

I have a friend who does this every year. He just brings both phones into his AT&T store and they swap the numbers for him. Pretty painless process, as long as they are not too busy (i.e. iPhone lauch day)

  • More questions about iphone family plan - second line regular phone

I am planning to switch from a verizon family plan(2 phones) to att family plan with 1 3g iphone and one regular phone.
I will get the iphone and my wife won't
what is the best free phone to get from att ?
and how can i do this in apple retail store? they don't sell other phones right?
don't want to go to att store because they usually out of stock of iphone...

I would say your best bet is to go to an apple store and buy your iphone. Apple stores do not carry any other AT&T phones, and AT&T stores do not have many free phones. Once you buy your phone register online with AT&T and add a line there, they have tons of free phones online and ship second day air.

  • Two iPhones using same iCloud account with separate contact lists?

Our family has two iPhones and we each use different contact lists.  If we use the same Apple Id is there a way to separate the contact lists in iCloud or do we need separate account (i.e Apple Id's)?

I have my iphone and ipad on Apple icloud services and it finds both units. I think you have to have different account names set up in order to use it. Do you have itunes? if so you can add the device from there. For instructions go to http://www.apple.com check under support, then forums to see if that has been posted.
    Good Luck

  • Create two different iCloud accounts with 2 iPhones (family plan)?

How do I create two different iCloud accounts with 2 iPhones (family plan). Both phones are registered under my name, and when my wife set up her phone with iOS 5, it will only let her log in using my account. I thought it used your iTunes account info, is this not the case?  I really want her to have her own seperate account on her phone.
    --Brian

I resolved it by using our seperate apple ID's. Since we already had our own itunes accounts I canceled iCloud on her phone that was using my account and logged in with hers.  I did read somewhere where you can have multiple iCloud accounts under the same user ID but I'm not sure how that works because that is exactly how ours were set up initially and all the suddon all of her contacts and calendar items were on my phone and iPad and vica-versa . It was a pain to remove them one at a time after I broke the accoutns apart.  I know that doesn;t really answer your question, but that was my workaround. Of course that also mean no app sharing.

  • Two iPhone Family plan?

As an "early adaptor", I've had a new iPhone each year from day one and I plan to order the #4 next week. However, this time I'll be giving my wife my 3GS and bringing her over from Verizon, putting the 2 iPhones on a family plan. I've been to AT&T's website to learn how they work the Family Plan but as one would expect there is much fluff and little substantial information.
If you have experience with a 2 iPhone Family plan with AT&T could you let me know how they "share" minutes, text messaging and data? Any tricks or traps in getting the best deal?
    Thanks, denny

OK, so the minutes are shared, the data plans are separate (we could each use the lowest $15 one) and texting could be separate or shared. That is about what I had thought.
One last question just occurred to me: Since I'm eligible for the discounted iPhone 4, I'll get the lower cost. If I were to get my wife an iPhone 4 also, could she also get the lower price - all assuming a new 2 year contract of course. I'll give AT&T a call next week to learn for certain as they should have the newest information by then, but I was curious if anyone knew.
    Thanks, denny

  • IPhone & Family Plan

Hello. I really need help here. I need to find out some information about prices.
    1. How much would it be with a family plan of 1400 shared minutes with one iPhone and two normal phones along with unlitmited texting for the iPhone?
How much monthly, though. Not at the start.
Also, I do not currently have AT&T, i'm switching so is there a difference in price there?
also how much is the average govenrment charges + surcharges?
    Thanks in advance!

    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/iPhoneCenter.html
The 1400 FamilyTalk plan is $129.99/month.
It only includes 2 lines...one additional non-iPhone line is $9.99/month.
    Unlimited messaging is $19.99/month.
So that adds up to $159.97.
As for taxes and fees, those will vary by your location. You can get an estimate of what they will be by going to http://www.wireless.att.com/customerservice/additionalcharges and putting in your zip code.
If you are still in a contract with your current cellular provider they will charge you a fee for early termination of the contract. This fee is typically $175 - $200.

  • Iphone with existing unlimited texting family plan

Hi, I just got an iPhone today butt ATT has given me two different answers about my question:
I am on a family plan with 3 other family members. We have the 30 dollar unlimited text messaging that covers everyone. I was told by two people at ATT that if I picked the 20 dollar data pack for my iphone, even though it says I'll only get 200 sms texts a month, since we have unlimited texting on the family plan, the unlimited texting will override the 200 texts a month that the iphone offers.
I was also told by one person that this is not correct.. that the 20 dollars of 200 texts message will replace the unlimited texting (for only my line) that my family has.
ATT is closed right now so if anyone could give me some feedback asap I would be very happy! Thanks!

Yea, but isn't the data plan for the iPhone, iPhone specific. You know, so we can get our visual voicemail and things like that. I mean if it wasn't that way, then why would they make you have to buy it. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong.
Ok, so you have unlimited testing for all the lines on your plan. Ok I got a little confused then, sorry about the date refrences.. I think though that what your saying about the number of texts will be correct. The rest of the lines on your plan will still have unlimited texts, but you'll be reduced to the 200 limit. You'll not have the Unlimited data as well, which is good if you surf the net a lot of the iPhone.

  • Family Plan Question for iPhone 3G

My brother and I share a family plan together. He already has a first generation iPhone on the account and I am getting the 3G iphone when is comes out.
Will our plan go up 30 dollars when I get the iPhone setup or will it go up just 10 dollars for me adding the 3g data price on the account?
This probably didn't make any sense lol, but any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Brendan

Info I've been getting from ATT:
2g(original) remains 20 bucks for data and 200 text message
3g add 30 dollars to account and if you want text - 5 bucks for 200 messages.
10 dollars more would be only if you upgraded to 3g and gave away old iphone.
since you're keeping 2 iphones to account you need data for each iphone and its corresponding data plan. You will renew a 2 year contract with att for 3g and if eligible for upgrade you pay discount price and 18 dollars upgrade fee to appear next bill !

  • Can I move my old iPhone 4 to another account in the same family plan

I currently have an iPhone 4 and a 3GS on the same family plan.  I would like to upgrade to the 4s (with a new 2-yr contract) and replace my old 3GS with my old 4 (without re-upping for 2 more years for the privilege of swapping old phones).  Is this possible?

    Yes.
Stop by an ATT corporate store to request a new micro-SIM card for the iPhone 4 where the iPhone 4 can also be activated with the line/number that is currently using the 3GS. The 3GS will be deactivated automatically at that time.
