Att unlock

I've recently had my iPhone factory unlocked and although iTunes reports "Congratulations, your iPhone is now unlocked," the small lock symbol still shows up on my phone as well as iTunes and I'm unable to use my foreign sim card. Any suggestions?

Small lock symbol?
There is no visual indicator of SIM locked status.
Where is this lock symbol appearing? Are you sure you're not confusing the screen lock symbol?

  • Dead iPhone 3GS after ATT Unlock

After I upgraded to a 4S, I kept my 3GS in hopes of someday unlocking it for my wife to use on t-Mobile. I was pleased to hear that ATT and Apple would provide an Unlock for out of contract iPhones. I got the unlock and everything went well for about week. Then one morning the 3GS was completely dead. I tried every reset and plugging it in to every type of charger. Still dead. I even took into the Apple Store and they said they couldn't do anything and would replace the 3GS for $150. This phone worked fine until the unlock, it may be coincidence but phone has never been dropped, or wet and is grreat condition. $150 is not an excessive amount if I can unlock it, which Apple says I can. I thought about replacing the battery for about $25 but Apple says that if I open it up the $150 is off the table. I would like to keep this phone since it is already unlocked and if I replace the battery could Apple really tell.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When ATT unlocked my iphone 3gs, it also turned into a brick. Completely died. I was traveling in Europe at the time, and wanted to switch out the sim card. When it died, boarding passes, reservations, directions, contacts, camera, etc, all gone. Totally aggravating. I had replaced a few parts over the years. It was old, but it still worked great, before the unlock.
Anyway, when I got home, I took out the battery and tested it, and sure enough it still had 3.5v. (I had replaced the battery maybe a year before.) And just for my own edification, I replaced the dock connector, thinking maybe that was the cause. Nope. Still wouldn't even be recognized on USB...let alone itunes.
When I went into Apple store, they confirmed that the phone was probably too old to support the software/change. Fair enough. But apparently, ATT unlocking phones has been problematic. Here's an recent example:
    http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303559504579195881629809394
If it happens to you, I suggest demanding a credit from the carrier. ATT gave me $170. I bought a used, factory-unlocked GSM iphone 5s. swappa.com worked great. And going non-contract cut my mobile phone bill by two-thirds.

  • I bought a use iPhone Requested an  ATT unlock.  The request was granted.  After updateing the phone won't activat

I purchased an iPhone 3GS for my girlfriend in Colombia.  It was advertized as new, factory unlocked. When i received the phone  it was obviously used and still locked to ATT.  I requested an unlock from ATT. ATT granted my request.  After updating through iTunes the phone will not connect to the activation server.   have read all the information I can find. I have had no success.  Is there a solution to this problem¿

Your'e right, Sears acts as a middleman for their associate resellers just as Amazon does.  I have already contacted Sears via email., and left feedback on the site, which they did not publish. The wording for the advertisement was changed so it is not as misleading, and is more or less legal.  The seller also offered to replace the phone or to let me return it but I had already sent it to Colombia.  My girlfriend is using it, but it is about like having an ordinary cellular with SMS and mms messaging and a camera. Basically, at this point we are stuck with a very expensive used cell phone.

  • Unable to upgrade 3GS after ATT unlocked it

    Hi
I own an iphone 5 and an iphone 3GS that I use for international travel.
The iphone 3GS was unlocked by ATT successfully, but it has an older 4 version of iOS and the apps require minimum ios5.
I have tried to upgrade to ios5 but the itunes says that is the most current version.
Any ideas why it wont upgrade and how to make it upgrade.
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi and thanks for the replies
I checked the serial and the phone has no warranty.  That is OK, but I try to upgrade I click the iTunes button (phone) to Check for Updates and it says that it is that Version 4.2.1 is the current version.
My phone is a 3GS and ATT (before to unlock) told me to back it up, erase and restore.  I read that to upgrade  to ios5 you need to again, back it up, clean up phone and check for updates and then restore the backup.  But now I am scared that it will lock it again.  I guess I can request for ATT to lock if anything happens...
Any help or ideas will be appreciated.

  • Can ATT unlock an iPhone 5 that is currently being used on Consumer Cellular?

    Hello,
I currently have an ATT iPhone 5 that is being used on Consumer Cellular. I want to unlock my iPhone so that I can use it on a different carrier. I was wondering if ATT can unlock my iPhone, since Consumer Cellular is a MVNO of ATT.

You would need to direct that question to AT&T.
    Cheers,

  • Unlocking iphone 5 att

So I bought an iphone 5 on eBay and it is att unlocked . I have gone to there website to try and fill out the form to request but I don't have a wireless number . My dad is a customer of att but he only uses att for the internet could I still unlock my iphone 5 even though we don't use any of there phone plans. And what exactly is a wireless number?

Why don't you contact AT&T by telephone and ask them?  They will probably ask you for other identifying information about the iPhone (other than the telephone number).
If you are in the U.S., you can phone them at (800) 331-0500.  This number operates 24 hours a day.

  • Will upgrading to iOS5.1.1 revert the ATT official unlock?

    I am a T-mobile customer and I have a iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1 (9B176), firmware 04.12.01.
The iPhone was originally locked to ATT but in April 2012 I requested the official ATT unlock. The phone is now unlocked and works well with T-mobile.
If I upgrade from iOS5.1 to iOS5.1.1 will I loose the unlock? Does anyone has firsthand experience?

    I have upgraded to iOS5.1.1 (9B206) though iTunes 10.6.1.7.
Before the process started I removed the T-Mobile sim card.
As everyone was suggesting, the iPhone remained unlocked after the upgrade.
Thank you all for your information.

  • Has anyone got ATT Lumia 920 work on T-Mobile netw...

Hi there, I just got my Lumia 920 ATT unlocked, I got the 20 digits unlock code from ATT customer service. But I found it cannot get any signal after I push my T-Mobile SIM card in, it says "No service" and the signal bar is grayed out with a forbidden sign on it, even if I choose to join a network manually in celluar settings page. The most strange thing is, if I call someone using the T-Mobile SIM card, the signal comes back, and the call could be connected successfully, but after hang up, signal is gone again.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    strange.
so long as you put the tmo sim, then responded with the unlock code when prompted, you should be able to get good signal.
have you tried to do a reset of the device first?
when you put the tmo sim in the device, it should auto-configure the network used.
if not, try getting the lumia pusher like scoobyman said and be sure that the you do what he said. it should allow you to manually set-up the network. so not sure why you cannot set it up.

  • My New Unlocked IPhone 4 S is showing "310-410" as a carrier while roaming (instead of AT&T)

    Hello,
Yesterday, I wanted to buy an unlocked IP4 S from New York Soho store.
They told me that they don't have unlocked in stock, but if I pay full price ($649) they can unlock an AT&T phone for me.
I said ok and purchased the phone. They put my Turkish sim card in it and itr worked greatly.
My operater is Turkcell and they work with AT&T in US. Normally in most of the time I see AT&T in the left top corner as a carrier. But sometimes, AT&T changes to "310-410". Does any anybody know what does it stand for? Is it normal? I can make calls or messaging in 310-410 mode as well but I still couldn't understand what it is.
In some of the forums, I saw some people had the same issue. They went to talk to a genius and Apple changed their phones with the new one.
Do you think, I also need to return my phone? Is there any difference between a factory unlocked and an ATT unlocked phone?
    Appreciate your help
    Thanks

You may have not understood that he was referring to an Apple Store in Soho, but it was obvious to me that was his intent, I have shopped in the store, and it is something he cleared up for you in a later comment.
My company works with the local Apple Authorized Retailer here in Monterrey, Mexico almost daily. We sell hundreds of Apple products for them every year to our clients. You are spewing a crock. We have phones unlocked every other week when there is insufficient unlocked stock available.
I have read the entire thread. I am well versed in what has been asserted and by whom. My reading comprehension in English is excellent. You are who has asserted that it was a mismarked AT&T phone. That is a tale that you fabricated out of thin air. You lot have turned a simple question about which company he was roaming with, into a farce claiming he purchased a hacked phone.

  • How to unlock Nokia Lumia 1020? Please Help Me.

Hi! How do you unlock Nokia Lumia 1020 w/c is locked with AT&T? I just bought mine in the US a couple weeks ago, but before I bought the phone I asked the AT&T Customer Number (1-800-331-0500) that I am a non-US resident and I bringing the phone to my Country. The lady on the other line told me there's no problem as long as I am buying the phone with no obligaation / pay in full price of the phone and call them again thay can unlock the phone. When I bought the phone and called again, the person on the other line told me he can't and the only way is thru website www.att.com/deviceunlock. Now, I've been trying to unlock my phone since Aug. 31 but no avail. So, are those people in AT&T customer service didn't really know what are they doing and if it is really in their hearth to be called a customer service representative? Because, if they knew what are they doing this should have not happen and I should not bought this phone. Now, when I blog thru their website somebody emailed me and telling me different policies again, here is the last email he sent me.
Thanks for taking my call today. As discussed, after further review your device is not eligible to be unlocked for the following reasons:
The person requesting the unlock must be one of the following:
    a current AT&T customer
a former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account
    Customer-Specific Requirements
Postpaid Smartphone Customers: Account has been active for at least ninety days and is in good standing (i.e., it has no past due amount or unpaid balance owed AT&T.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. If you have further questions or concerns, please let us know.
Their apologies cannot return my $700 bucks w/c I paid for the unit for the wrong information of their Customer Service.
Is there anyone here can help me to unlock my Lumia 1020? Thank you in advance.

It does seem slightly hit or miss although users buying via Microsoft Store seemed to have better luck if this is anything to go by: http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-lumia-1020/235805-nokia-lumia-1020-msft-store-att-unlocking-%5Bmy-...

I upgraded to Iphone 5 Oct 1st, my old contract for the Iphone 4 expires Dec 27th. AT&T Service Agreement (Devices) 3.1 (b) states early upgrade is eligible for unlock. I called AT&T for the third time after receiving a second negative unlock response by email, I talked with a supervisor and threatened a Class Action against AT&T and they responded by emmediatly unlocking my Iphone 4.

  • HT201210 iPhone 4 dilemma...

I have an iphone 4 in recovery mode and I am trying to restore its software and keep receiving error. I followed the support web link how to restore the iPhone software and did exactly from instructions and still giving me errors. My iPhone 4 is ATT unlocked, I have used this iphone for a month after unlocking and for some reason, after updating the software, my trouble went on. I have connected and used different Mac computers to restore my phone and still giving me errors. This is so frustrating. Will it ever have a solution? I do not make a lot of money to spend so much on a phone. Can someone help out?

AT&T seeked my IMEI number and instructed me to press, (It was a 10 digit, symbols, character, all in combine code). Anyway, I am using a different carrier now. My iphone was of AT&T that prompted me to have it unlocked. That was the situation. If it was the situation, the company ATT must have been using a third party decoders. I certainly doubt it though. Now, even if I go back and have it unlocked again, there is no way I can retrieve the information. Only if iTunes allows me to. This is very unfortunate. Thank you for helping out...

  • Buying iphone from Apple store for use with various carriers

If I buy an iphone 4 from Apple store (not subsidized), can I use it with Virgin Mobile's no contract plan?  Or do I need to buy it from Virgin Mobile?
And If, after a month or two, I decide not to use Virgin Mobile, can I switch to another carrier using the same phone? or do I need to unlock it or whatever?
I guess what I am really getting down to is this:  I want to choose Virgin as carrier because there is no 2-year contract locked in, i.e. flexibility to switch, and I am willing to pay full price for the phone.  But if, for some reason I don't like Virgin's service, or they to raise their monthly fee so that it is no longer competitive to ATT, VZ, etc., I want to be able to switch to another carrier with the same phone, and not have to sell it on the 2nd hand market.
I know I can just purchase the iphone 4 that Virgin offers for 350.  But if it only works with Virgin and no other carrier, then what is the point of not having tied into a contract?  The phone is useless unless I use it with that carrier.
I have not asked Virgin this question yet, because what I really want to know is, if an iphone purchased in an Apple store can be used "universally" across all carriers.  I kind of understand there is a different standard that ATT use as opposed to all other carriers, but I am hoping to find the definitive answer about iphone compatibility for all carriers that offer the iphone.

    Spiral Aim wrote:
    3)  I assume VZ and S use CDMA.  So, an unlocked VZ CDMA iphone user can switch to S and vice versa, and that's it?
You assume correctly that Verizon and Sprint are CDMA.  However, no CDMA carrier will activate a device sold for a network other than their own.  In the "CDMA world" there is no such thing as an unlocked device.
    Spiral Aim wrote:
    4)  ATT unlocked iphone users cannot use same phone with VZ, S, Virgin, or whoever else offering iphones at this time?
An unlocked GSM iPhone can be used on TMobile and any other GSM carrier in the US, there are quite a few regional GSM carriers and resellers (like StraightTalk).  Not all features are supported/work and it's up to those carriers to get them working.
    Spiral Aim wrote:

Now this is where it gets confusing, kindof.
The iPhone 4 is GSM or CDMA only.
The 4S and 5 are World phones meaning they have GSM and CDMA antenna's.  A CDMA 4S or 5 can be unlocked by the carrier (Sprint, Verizon, Virgin, etc) and activated on a GSM network.  Generally the carrier will only unlock for International carriers for the purpose of using GSM when the user is traveling and there is no partner CDMA carrier network for the user to roam on.
