Attach photo in Mail as a file...

Apparently I have to attach the photo, then right click and a pop up option appears and I choose 'Attach as file'... Ummm... any hints?  Rain dance as well perhaps?

People get understandably confused about this. The truth is, if you're sending an image within an email, you have no control over how the other person sees it in their email program. (Unless you're sending HTML mail such as a formatted newsletter.)
The option you're talking about - which is actually the "View as Icon" option from your right-click - only changes the way that you see it as you're composing the message. It may be easier to write your message if you're not distracted by a large image in the middle of the typing area.

I don't think there's a setting in Mail to make this a default.  a ittle searching revealed an app that claims to do it.  Attachment Tamer is free to try before you buy to see if its worth it for you or if you just want to do it manually.

You are right, this option seems to be gone. I am pretty sure this is a bug, though, because the option is not even appearing when I am using cellular data and I can't imagine Apple wants us to sent 3MB images over cellular. You should sent feedback about this ( http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html ).

  • How can I attach photos to Mail as a thumbnail?

When I attach photos or PDF documents containing photos, to a mail message, the whole photo appears as part of the message. This provides problems at the recipient end as it can take a long time for the mail message to fully open.
What I want is to be able to attach a photo as a thumbnail which can then be opened by the recipient at a convenient time.
I have searched through Preferences and online help but to no avail. Does anyone know if this can be done and how?

The Mail.app displays all image/photo type attachments and smaller PDF attachments (1 page only) inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default for sent and received messages.
Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which you have no control over.
And the same is true in reverse.
For example, such attachments for a Windows Outlook or Outlook Express user appear as attached files only (not shown inline or viewed in place within the body of the message) before and when sending the message but when received by a Mail.app user, the attachments will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default when the message is opened regardless.
You can control-click on an inline or viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but such attachments will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default regardless when opened by a Mail.app recipient.
All this depends on the recipient's email client. The only way to prevent this going either direction is for the sender to archive all attachments as a zip file attachment.

  • Why can't you easily attach photos from Mail?

I'm kind of scratching my head that there is no option in Mail to attach photos or videos. I know that I can exit from Mail, go to Photos, select Copy, select photos, exit Photos, go back to Mail and paste them, but that's about 7 steps too many for my liking. Why isn't there an attachment feature right in the Mail app?

Because we're talking about creating an email in the Mail app _on an iPhone_, not in the Mail app on a Mac. Scroll up to check the forum you're posting in...

  • Attaching photos in mail

Is there a way to attach photos in email as an ATTACHMENT, not embedded in the email?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That's just how Mail presents the photo. If you want it to appear as an icon Control-click on the image and select "View as Icon". The recipient will see it however their mail client is set up.

  • Attaching photos to Mail then saving by Outlook users

While I can attach and send photos, the problem is for the recipient if they are using Outlook. They see the picture and the file name as a JPEG, but they can't save it as a JPEG.
How do you resolve that or can you?

I use Mail to send photos, and the problems are with Microsoft receivers. At work we run Windows XP so I sent some photos to myself a couple of different ways. When I send it, I am attaching JPEG. When it arrives, I see the picture as if it were a text document and the file name is displayed below the picture with a JPEG extension. The problem is saving it - there is no JPEG option. HTML, Text and a few other options.
That just seems odd to me. If I attach an Excel file, I receive an Excel file.

  • Embedded vs Attached photos in Mail

It doesn't matter what email server I use, all of my photos embed. I need them to attach.   I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.7.5 using Mail 5.3.  Can you help?

    The longer list is:
    [√] use Windows-friendly attachments
Place the attachment at the very beginning of the text or at the very end of the text, or send it by itself in its own email with subject: Photo Attached (nt) ... stands for no text.
Don't let iPhoto send it, attach it manually in Mail.

  • Attaching photo to mail

Is there a way (or there should be a way) to attach a photo to an email when you already have the email opened. I.E. You click on a link on a website that opens an email and you want to add a photo from the iPhone onto it without having to write down the email address, close that mail, go to Photos, click send, etc.

A photo can be selected from the iPhone's camera roll, which can be accessed from the Camera app and includes photos that were captured by the iPhone or that were saved from a recieved email or from a website, or by selecting the Photos app, which provides access to all photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone and photos available in the iPhone's camera roll.

  • Attaching pictures to Mail from within iPhoto

For my sister in law I am trying to find out, why she cannot attach photos to mails anymore, i.e. from within iPhoto. In iPhoto, when you select one or more photos, then click on Mail on icon list below the photos, the photos are prepared for attachment. In a pop-up window you can choose from different sizes, for example. When you click on ok, a progress bar appears. Once the process is complete nothing happens, Mail does not open. Also, there is no draft mail created in Mail. What went wrong? How do I fix it? Attaching photos by dragging them on the Mail icon in the dock works fine, though. Thanks a lot in advance.

Given that iPhoto goes through the motions of resizing etc, I would suspect the problem is at the Mail end.
Has she tried repairing permissions with Disk Utility?

  • How do you attach photos to a Yahoo e-mail via Firefox?

I cannot find how to attach photos to e-mails to my Yahoo mail contacts via Firefox. Every attempt has failed.

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Also, for 10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.

  • When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts.

When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.

Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:

  • Problems with photos attached to a mail

Normally a photo attached to a mail arrives at the addressee as a separate file which can be detached and stored separately.
Since a couple of days it does not work this way, when I use the Apple mail program to send messages from my iMac (OSX 10.5.3). Now they are embedded into the mail as very large pictures. I think there must be something wrong with the settings of mail.
Does anybody know what I can do in order to get back the "normal" state?

    Sogar Microsoft hat so was...
(Hoffentlich hat das jetzt auch einer von denen gelesen - und verstanden!)
    Gruß
    Dietmar

    Hello Mats in Sweden!
I'm from Austria, not so far away! The file that you've received seems to be a Windows Media File and you may need a special software for your iPad to be able to open it. I've found something HERE.
If you open this link on your iPad it should take you to the App Store, resp. open it. The price for this app is 1,59 €.
