Attaching a financial report URL to planning tasklist 11.1.2.3

Hi I have tried in 11.1.2.3 to attach a URL (Smartcut of a financial report) to an item in a Planning tasklist.
from there i got the following message:
" EPM Workspace cannot function inside of a frame. Contact your system administrator."
So i found a first workaround based on this article of the knowledge base
How to Open Planning Task List and Menu Items (Financial Reporting or Web Analysis) Within a Workspace Tab (Doc ID 1339568.1)
which suggests to encode the smartcut url and attach a customized version.
This solution in my case worked for a couple of days and than not anymore: Now i get half of the initial message only:
" EPM Workspace cannot function inside of a frame."
and at times a pop up which wants me to leave this page to open the report. If i follow it the report opens on a new window and my planning/workspace application where i came from closes..
I'm completely lost on this one and oracle support as well. Anybody discovered another way?

i am a fan of your blog and i want to thank you for posting this here but it was DJSmeadly that gave me a push to try / test again in several ways.
turns out that it works without any pop-ups and strange messages (not even to leave the page and so on) for me using this format:

so thanks for responsing to this thread and giving the motivation to give it another try!

http://[hyperion reporting servername]:19000/workspace
The Financial Reporting Studio to configure, edit and create reports is an executable. This is found
C:\Hyperion\BIPlus\bin\HReports.exe on the desktop workstation (assuming you have installed the client version of Hyperion)

Problems about financial reporting studio and planning

Hi,all:
Here are two problems:
1. after i have installed the fr client in my pc,when i connect to the server,it promot an error infomation as follow:
; nested exception is:
java.lang.NullPointerException
and i can't open the fr interface and view the fr report
2. When i create a new rule under business rules folder in Essbase Administration Servers,i select the outlin,but only the Essbase applications i can choose in the "avilable server",there is no Planning applications.

What's the version of Hyperion that you are using?
For the first issue, if this is working in somebody else's pc, I would be suspected by your pc's security/java settings.
For the second issue you mentioned below is possible answers:
1. You can't write business rules against EPMA apps in AAS. Use calcmanager instead.
2. Login to planning with your user name, launch a form, go back to AAS and try again.
3. Make sure you've got access to write rules in AAS.

Financial Reports import into excel using Smart View - error

All,
I have encountered an error message when trying to use R&A Import.
The message is
Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office, Fusion Edition
"Excel cannot insert the sheets into the destination workbook, because it contains fewer rows and columns than the source workbook. To move or copy the data to the destination workbook, you can select the data, and then use the Copy and Paste commands to insert it into the sheets of another workbook."
This only affects some users and then they are able to reimport the reports no problem in the same workbook after the error is posted.
Does anybody know how to fix this issue?
We are using Excel 2007, Oracle Hyperion Smart View 11.1.13, Financial Reporting Studio, Hyperion Planning 11.1.13.

Answer appears to be users were using Excel 2007 in compatibility mode. Switching from compatibility mode to saving in Excel 2007 removed the errors.

Financial reporting not working

we are using hyperion 11.1.1.3 , installed in linux server and from windows xp iam trying to open financial reporting url it is showing the error?
Error 404--Not Found

The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.

Actually that's what I thought so that I won't have to run the config utility for a client install. When I did the Typical installation it gave me an option at he end of an install to run the Config utility or not.
As far as the registery cleaning is concerned, there are probably 100 entries all over the place. Pain the neck but I guess that would be my only option here.
With the vpd.properties file, I can definitly say that in 9.3.1.3 it is there. I have the same version installed on my machine and I have the vpd.properties file.
So, I think the bottom line would be to uninstall everything related to Hyperion.
Clean the registery for all Hyperion entries.
Reboot and reinstall.

Which URL to use to open a financial report from a Task list ?

I've got a big issue in Hyperion Planning : I do not know which URL to use to open a financial report from a task list.
If I use the Smartcut (given when you do a right-click on the report, then Properties), a tab is opening (normal behaviour), but another tab is opening under the tab, which is very ugly, and moreover which prevent from using the PDF/HTML display icons !
Is someone know which URL to use to display correctly a financial report when opening it from a task list ?
It's an emergency, please help !

I've just a problem. 2 tabs are opening.
One is opening correctly and displays my report. I can display it in PDF/HTML.
But another tab is opening with this message : This window can now be closed since the application has been launched in a separate window. Note: Popup blockers may prevent this application from working properly.
Do you know why this tab is opening ?

Financial report for essbase and planning application

Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.

Financial Reporting - Planning 11.1.2.1 Data Source

We are trying to do salary planning, specifically new hire planning at an employee level. Is it possible to have an account of data type text that users could input into a form, and then build reports in Financial Reporting Studio that would display that text? I know there is an ADM driver that allows Financial Reporting Studio Data Sources to use Planning as a data source, but I wanted to survey for input on if and how well that works.

That's exactly what I did last year. Business wanted to see the Job description (they entered it on the form) of the new hires in a report.
In Workspace, create a Planning datasource and when you create your report, map your report to the Planning datasource.
You just need to login to Workspace > Explore > Tools > Database Connection Manager > New > Select Planning as the Type.

No sync between Financial Report Studio repository and planning

Hi,
I have a problem in Hyperion Planning 11.1.3 when I am trying to open reports that are either in Explorer or in a task list linked by a smartcut. An error (#2108) occured saying that the object I am trying to open is not in the repository. I am using Financial Report Studio 11.1.1.3. to create reports.
Does anyone have an idea of why I am getting that error?

Hi,
This is a known issue and there is no solution yet as far as I'm aware. It happens when you open a report using different user names on the same PC.
The solution is this, log off from workspace, clean internet explorer caches (including temp files). shut down internet explorer and try openning the report again from workspace.
Obviously, you need to repeat this steps everytime you face the issue.

Cache memory usage of Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting

We have installed Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting in one single server and we would like to know is there any cache memory setting can be fine tuned to improved the overall online performance of the system.
How can we control the memory usage of individual user logged into Workspace and Hyperion Planning? And if users generate a large size report in Financial Reporting, should more memory be allocated to the user so as to speed up the report generation speed?

Our onsite consultants told us that as we have many web forms and some web forms contains lot of cells, the compiled Hyperion Planning application is quite large (> 1GB) and sometimes may have "out of memory" problem. We just wonder we are using 64bit version of Windows 2003 we should have a much larger memory address space. How can we improve the "out of memory" issue?
Or Hyperion Planning is still a 32 bit application?

Cell Text Annotations of Hyperion Planning on Hyperion Financial Reporting

There is a business requirement to show Cell text entered as annotation on each cells in data form to be reported using Hyperion Financial Reporting.
Also there is a case of some of the data types being text. Some of the forms also have supporting details.
Now I want to check how easy or difficult is it to report from Hyperion Planning V11.1.2 for the above mentioned.
Are there any noticeable performance issues?
Is it possible to report the cell text annotations , Supporting details & Datatype 'Text' from data form on Financial Report?

I haven't used the text data type, however I have done quite a bit of reporting on supporting detail. All you have to do is use a Hyperion Planning data source instead of an Essbase data source. (and specify on the report to show supporting detail). In general, Hyperion Planning data sources are slightly slower than Essbase data sources. How much slower depends on a lot of factors, but supporting detail can certainly slow things down.
One key limitation with reports that display this type of data is that it doesn't "roll up" the hierarchies. Your report has to be at the same level (in all dimensions) where the supporting detail was entered. So you can't pick an upper level Entity and show all of the supporting detail for it's descendants unless your report also includes the descendants. I understand why this limitation exists, but I routinely have clients that would like this functionality. (For Example - Show me all of the supporting details for the entire plan.)

Using Planning vs Essbase connection in financial reports

What are the pros/cons of using an essbase connection for financial reporting vs using a planning connection? we are on 9.2.1. using the Financial reporting studio client. These are basic financial reports-cost center expense reports, income statement, revenue analysis, etc.
I notice that when I use a planning connection, I cannot select any attribute dimensions in my financial report.
Also, are there any differences in the security used with a planning connection vs an essbase connection

you can select any attribute (see WorkSpace->File->Properties->Financial Reporting...)

there are not big differences.
We use planning for most of our reports. If report is very big (many rows or lines) we use financial report.

Hyperion smart cut link of Financial report not opening as pdf in tasklist 11

Hi ,
I am using Smartcut Link to open FR from tasklist.
Reports are opening properly in HTML but didn't show any option for PDF.
While I am opening the same report from Explorer->Right click->Open as html. This will show option to save/open report as pdf.
I am working on 11.1.1.4.

Planning ADM driver with Financial Reporting

We are receiving a "Error: Error creating objectjava.lang.ClassNotFoundException" when trying to create a Planning Detail db connection through workspace and an "error setting CSS Support Information Driver" error when trying to do the same thing through Financial Reporting studio.
I think this has to do with the ADM driver, but the IT dept says they installed it. Any ideas? Or does anyone know a workaround that does not involve uninstalling?

Just check if Planning ADM drivers are installed on Reporting server. We also faced the same problem. All you can do is run Plannign executable on reporting server and choose custome installation option. Then choose onle ADM driver for installation. It solved our problem.
