Attaching audio to a menu

Hi, I've just built my first DVD using Encore CS4. I've made two menus and attached an audio track to each. When the preview the file the audio track plays fine but when I select another link the track plays from the start.
How do I get the tack to continue play whilst selecting other butttons?
Thanks in advance.
Chris.

Chris,
Not sure that I am following totally. Are you saying that when you select and navigate to the second Menu, the Audio starts over?
If so, that is the limitation of DVD-specs. - Audio cannot span multiple Menus. Each Audio Clip, on each Menu, is treated separately. The only way "around" that is to fool the user into thinking that the Audio has spanned multiple Menus. I use many simple Audio Clips (SmartSound mostly), that have a Fade-In and Fade-Out and a lot of simple repetition with slight pauses in the music. The user needs to listen carefully to tell that Menu 2 is not picking up from the exact spot that the Audio in Menu 1 was. I collect such pieces, when I find them. Yes, one is then limited in the selections, and other than maybe chants, there are no vocals, but it "seems" to span.
If it's something like the Audio in Menu 1 starting over, each time that a Button is navigated to, but not yet activated, let us know all about your Looping, Loop Points and your Audio files.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Attaching audio and editing M2V files

I have about 200 M2V files that were provided to me for use in a Final Cut Pro project. They originated from about six different HDV cameras in 1080i60. The clips were captured to a PC running some version of Pinnacle software on-site at an event. Each M2V file has no sound, but is accompanied by a pair of WAV files. Left and right channels. I have MPEG Streamclip to transcode the clips, but the problem I am having is figuring out how to get the audio attached so that it can be edited. Also, I'm wondering if this can be done without transcoding with generational loss. Since they are HDV files, can they be converted to Quicktime HDV wrapper? Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Thanks.

What are the pixel dimensions of the m2v files? They should open in quicktime player and you should be able to check there. Some compression/conversion utilities allow you to attach audio files during the encoding. Don't think compressor will do it. I will see if Squeeze will do it, if you like, but Squeeze costs money.

  • Can't 'detect tempo' under audio drop down menu :-(

    Hi
I am trying to fix up the tempo to quantisize a track and I can't seem to be able to use 'detect tempo' under the audio drop down menu.
When I select the region and then click on 'detect tempo' I am told that there are 'no regions selected'.
I selected the regions in both the main window and in piano bar seperately but still no luck.
    Any help would be fantastic!
    Thanks soo much!

    keeden,
    You may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Edit attached audio with movie clip

I made a project by combining movie from one camera (with audio muted), plus audio only from a second camera as an attached audio track. The two cameras were recording the same scene, so the (better quality) attached audio can be put in sync with the video from the other camera.
How then can I delete a section of the video AND the corresponding section from the attached audio channel, so the remaining audio remains in sync?
"Split Clip" splits the movie but not the attached audio. Is there a way round this?

Sorry I never posted back about this. I got sidetracked with putting together a different vacation video and forgot all about it.
Anyway, what I posted before totally worked. I exported the movie as an mp4 at full quality (I'm not sure if there was any loss of quality, as the footage I started with was not very high resolution. There was no discernible loss of quality, though). Then I took that newly created mp4 and re-imported it into iMovie.
iMovie treated the audio that had previously been pinned as embedded audio, so now when I cut a clip, it cuts the audio with it.
Kind of a pain to do the extra step (especially since importing all of my raw, unedited footage and re-importing it took a while, but working with it now is soooo much easier.
Hope this helps anyone who may stumble onto this thread in the future.

  • No Audio on Main Menu - Please post if you are having this issue....

    Howdy...
I am having trouble getting any audio on the main menu. I can drag and drop audio files (non-DRM) to all my menus, and it shows up in the inspector, but when I preview or burn a disc, the main menu has no audio. All of the sub-menus have the audio just fine, but not the main.
I'm currently using the 'Stretch' theme...
Again, all sub menus work just fine, but the same audio will not play on the main menu.
    Does anyone have a solution?
If you are also having this problem, please post here...
    Thanks...
    Best,
    Ben

I've stumbled onto the reason for this problem. It's because you unintentionally muted your audio for this menu. To resolve it do the following:
    1. Open the menu where you are having audio problems
    2. Click on the drop zone icon to open the drop zones
    3. Move the music (the iTunes music notes) that you've placed here out of the menu box
    4. By getting the music icon out of the way, you will reveal a tiny black sound/audio icon
    5. If you strain your eyes and look real close you will see that there are no sound waves coming out of the sound icon
    6. Click on the icon and tiny black sound waves will appear
    7. You have now "unmuted" your menu
    8. Drop your music selection back into the menu drop zone
    9. You now have sound!

  • Re-attaching audio to video after a detach?

Any one know if re-attaching audio to video after a detach? I discovered(with irritation) that expand, rather than detach, is what I initially was trying to do. thanks!

sorry, but your only option is to make a compound clip at that point. it explicitly states this in the manual:
"To reattach an audio clip to its original video clip, you need to create a compound clip."

  • Audio plays for menu but not for the movie??

    Hi-
I made a dvd with music from an mp3 playing over the menu. It works fantastically. Then when I play the movie, the audio is GONE.
Note: I CAN get the movie audio to play when I increase the music level of the menu audio, but then when that happens the audio of the menu gets extremely distorted because its too loud. I dont want the level of the menu audio louder than the movie audio anyway. Anyone run into this?

    Hi
iMovie and iDVD seems to have problems with various audio formats.
iTune music - goes silent on DVD disc etc.
Way around (and I allways do):
    • convert all audio esp .mp3 and from iTunes to .aiff
    • import this into iMovie then after edit closing iMovie
    • open iDVD and import the movie project
(I never use the Share/Export to iDVD function in iMovie)

  • Continuing backing audio from main menu to sub menus?

    Hi.
I've never created a DVD before, but have got the general hang of iDVD. The only thing I seem to be having trouble with is having continuous music through all my menus. I have dragged and dropped a song to the top level which plays in the background ok, but as soon as I navigate to a sub menu it stops playing. Is there a way to just have the same song on loop no matter which menu I am in?
I'm using iLife 11 if that makes any difference.

If you are asking if you can have one audio playing continuously from one menu to the next.....this has been asked many times, and I still don't understand why it is an issue. When a viewer inserts your DVD disk to select to play your movie, an audio track plays and loops because no one knows how long the viewer will keep the menu on before making a selection...on any of the menus. You can add the same song/audio file to each menu and submenu so the same track plays, but you cannot make the audio consecutive from menu to menu.

  • Attaching audio to clips

when i add sound to my clips, it displays it in the timeline viewer. how do i get the sound to attach to just that one clip so i can remove it from the timeline viewer? i ask because when i have audio in the timeline viewer but then select a different clip to export, it exports what's in the timeline viewer.

    Welcome to the Forum, gOrOsie!
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you want to do. You want to "add" an audio clip to a video clip so the video clip plays the audio, right? If I'm wrong, please say.
There is no way to "join" the video and audio in iMovie But iMovie lets us export a few clips of the project to a Full Quality movie that contains both the audio and video of that section of the project. Essentially, you export the clip(s) you want, and the audio below the clips is exported with it.
You must first align your audio clip to your video clip on the Timeline so they play together. Then you export that video clip to a Full Quality movie, import the FQ movie back into the project and use it to replace the original video clip and audio clip.
After aligning the video and audio, select the video clip. Choose File > Share. Click on the QuickTime button at the top of the window. Check the checkbox "Share selected clips only". In the popUp menu "Compress movie for:", choose "Full Quality", then click Share. Name the new file "Joined" or something, choose the folder to save it in, and click OK.
In the Finder, locate the Full Quality movie and drag it to the project's Clips pane or Timeline. Use it to replace the video clip and audio clip.
Note that if the audio clip is longer than the single video clip above it, exporting the single video clip will "chop off" the audio before it's done playing. To preserve the entire audio clip, select additional video clips above it on the Timeline before you export. If you need to later, you can split the imported FQ movie to remove the "too-long" video stuff.
Note too that iMovie lets you control which audio tracks you export with the selected video clips. Use the checkboxes at the right end of the Timeline to enable/disable audio on the three tracks.

  • Can't get Sound to application from attached audio mixer

I have an Onyx 1220 mixer connected to the mac pro via firewire.
The mac sees it and allows me to select it in System Preferences.
In prefs, I can talk into a mic attached to the mixer and see the level on the mac register normally.
However, when I run an app, Garage Band, SoundTrack Pro, anything, and select the mixer as input, I get no sound into the application.
I can't help but think this is user error since when I connect it to the PC running Win XP via firewire, and select the correct device, everything works fine.
Any ideas? I know many podcasters use this model, so I must be doing something wrong or missing a step.

You need an adapter. Mini DisplayPort can not output audio.

  • Email attachment download shows "invalid menu handle"

I click on an email attachment, the download box appears in top left corner and starts downloading then a rectangular box appears in middle of screen saying "invalid menu handle" and download won't open.

Not the same thing. Google "Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility". The first hit will be what you need (on the Microsoft site).

  • Set desired in and out of audio video in menu...

Sorry - so basic but can't figure out - how do I set the in and out point for audio playing during the menu and the video that is being viewed in the menu? Thanks!

You mean using Motion eus? Look Motion Menu up in the manual for the details. It's not intutive. You select the button and then open the inspector and you will see a media tab where you can set the in point. You cannot select the outpoint since Motion Menus are 30 seconds by default. Adjusting the loop point for the entire menu is described, confusingly, in the manual.

  • Looping audio on the menu page

I have edited a piece of audio for use on the menu page of an iDVD project. It is cropped, so that when it loops, there is a natural transition from the end of the clip to the beginning, as it starts over. I imported this clip into my iDVD project, and it loops fine, but it apparently is too short for the menu screen because after it loops through, it plays for a few more seconds and then starts over. I'm not sure if this makes sense, but how can I adjust the timing of the menu screen to match the timing of my audio clip?

How did you edit the music file - trying to take a 15 second piece of a song & loop it for the menu screen... not sure what software to use.
    Thanks!
