Attaching DBF / ORA files to Oracle 10g express

Hi,
I have Oracle 10g Express and I want to attach/restore database. I`m begginer in oracle so I know little about process of restoring/attaching databases. I have only DBF/ORA files, is it possible to restore them and how?
Any help appreciated.

Probably not... Oracle does not generally allow you to take data files from one machine and mount them on another machine.
If you have a small dump file (generally .DMP) and a handful of data files, you might have some transportable tablespaces, but it doesn't sound like that is the case.
If you have control files, you might have a closed database backup. If that were the case, you could do a database restore, but you would only be able to use the express edition if that was the original database version you took the backup from. It doesn't sound like you have control files, though, so I don't expect that you could do a recovery.
If the original database is still around, the easiest option would probably be to do an export from that system and an import into your new database (using the exp/imp or expdp/impdp tools depending on the source Oracle version).

  • I need OrderEntry schema SQL file for Oracle 10g Express

It seems Oracle 10g Express does not come with oe schema.
I do not want to download another Oracle.

    I think its doable:
    1) http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/common/OBEConnection.htm
    Download the sample_schema_scripts9i10g.zip
Since you have Oracle Express you should unzip it to :
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\demo
    Thereafter copy
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\demo\schema\order_entry
    to
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\demo\schema
    then :
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\demo\schema>path=c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\pr
    oduct\10.2.0\server\BIN
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\demo\schema>sqlplus system/manager
    then
    @mksample as described in http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/common/OBEConnection.htm
I agree with you that this was not straight forward since these scripts are pretty complex, but I did this now and I have at least the customer - orders relation up and running so I hope it helps.
    kind regards

Thanx.Show the output and verify for any initialization paramtere file in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directoryIf it really is missing (so far we only have your word, and I trust Oracle more ... show us the actual error message) and you have no backup, you can recreate it by referencing your alert log. At every startup, the alert log will record all non-default initialization parms.

    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?Ordinarily, I'd recommend getting Oracle Linux (http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux) because the default install includes all the prerequisite RPM packages you will need. And failing that, also offers another RPM package "oracle-validated" which will cause the installation of the necessary prerequisites.
But... you mentioned customer: if this is a revenue-producing situation and customer money is at stake, I strongly recommend they obtain commercial O/S support with either Oracle, Red Hat, or maybe SuSE/Novell. Compared to the cost of a downed business, an O/S support arrangement is cheap, cheap, cheap.
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?Sure. You can run Oracle VirtualBox on most Linux, Windows, or Solaris boxes. http://VirtualBox.org for info.
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases? No real differences in either environment.
    4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setupWhat, you didn't try http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux yet?

  • Oracle 10g Express Edition and Forms 6i

    Hi,
Need to know if Oracle 10g express edition supports forms 6i or not?
    Please advise.
    Thanks you very much.

    Thanks for the answers.
Yes, XE universal does not work, but XE Western European does. I am having a hard time to configure Net8. The net configuration tools simply crash right away every time I try to run them. The sql*plus on form side crashes when I hit the connect button. The only thing that can run with no problem is form. I had to manually edit the tnsnames.ora file on form side, setting host=computer name and sid=XE. Tried many times until it worked.

  • Java Connection Pooling issue with Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello
I have a Java based web application that uses the Oracle 10g Express Edition database. I am using a connection pool to get connections to the database.
I use the NetBeans IDE and run my web application on the bundled Tomcat server(5.5.7) that comes with the IDE. Though when I initially run the application from the IDE, the connection pool is set up fine, when I recompile my java code and try to run the application again, I get the following error each time:
Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12516, TNS:listener could not find available handler with the
    matching protocol stack.
The logs before the error shows up, indicate that the connection pool object is fine and gives me the number of available connections and the number of active connections and so on, which I have printed from the constructor of the Connection Pool class:
    For e.g.:
    Cache size = 17
    Available Connections = 17
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
However, if I kill my Tomcat server process and run the application again, it works fine with no error.
I looked around for possible causes and solutions and all I could find
was increasing the processes parameter value in the init.ora file. I have increased the parameter value to from 100 to 20000 now, in increments of 500/1000 each time but it hasnt worked so far.
Someone else suggested that I increase the size of my connection pool; I initially had it set to a minimum limit of 5, an initial limit of 10 and a maximum limit of 1000. However if I set the Initial Limit to anything above 17 connections, I see the following log on the Bundled Tomcat log and my application doesn't run at all:
    Log: Loading JDBC Driver : class=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver ...
    Log: Loaded JDBC Driver
Log: Connection with URL=jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:xe as username/password
Error code not handled : 0
Exception Message :java.sql.SQLException: Listener refused the connection with the following error:
ORA-12519, TNS: no appropriate service handler found
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
    localhost:1521:xe
    // End of log
And the Bundled Tomcat server automatically shuts down.
Again the System.out statements from the Connection Pool class constructor show that the cache has been initialized and that currently there are free connections available in the pool.
    E.g.
    Cache size = 18
    Available Connections = 18
    Cache Limit = 1000
    Active size = 0
Has anyone faced anything similar? Could someone please suggest what I'm doing wrong here and what I should do to set right this problem?
    Swetha

hello, please pardon me, my english is basic. i do of my best. i had the same problem until reading the pdf documentation 2 days for java devvelloper.it is simple, follow this way.
    try {OracleDataSource ds;
         Connection conn;
      ds = new OracleDataSource();
      ds.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost");
      conn = ds.getConnection("userid","password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
don't forget to Dowload the user client of oracle Express Edition. do the rest of your program and it will work. take a look to the documentation pdf for java develloper. all it is explained.  good look

I am having all kinds of problems connecting oracle 10g express edition with my jdeveloper 10.1.3.3. I have been all through the google results looking for an answer and have come to the conclusion that it is something with either the listerner file or the tns file, but as of yet have been unable to locate them. here are both of those files too.

Please any help would be appreciated I have been at this for days, thanks.

This has to be some kind of bug with 10g express because I see lots of people having similar problems. I'm in the process of uninstalling 10g, and I will re-install it see if that makes a difference. Again if anyone has any other ideas please keep them coming because this is utter BS it shouldn't be this hard.

  • Create tablespace in Oracle 10g Express

    Hi,
I've been playing around over the last few days with Oracle 10g Express and I need to create my own tablespace and therefore create user associated with my custom table space.
I tried with the command create tablespace, but I am not successful with configuring the parameters such as the datafile location and such. I did go through the Oracle Concepts Guide which was very helpful, but I must be missing something.
Also assuming that my db scheme will be part of my application and therefore released to my client as script so they can re-create my database how would the table space integration work on their end.
I would I have to place my first line of the script to create the table space and ask them for database file location?
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

I am also not sure how to specify the datafile.
Thank you.How about checking with the fine SQL Reference manual for the syntax of the CREATE TABLESPACE command?
Learning where to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to tahiti.oracle.com. Drill down to your product and version.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are reference manuals. Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

  • How do I connect from Crystal Report version XI to Oracle 10G express?

I'm new to oracle 10G express and I'm developing an application that needs reports to preview some data from oracle tables.
The oracle database is installed on the server and I installed the client on my machine. I need to use the crystal report 11 to report the output. Thus, I designed a crystal report that should simply read a table on oracle and though I need to be able to connect to the oracle 10G Express Edition database. I tried to create a connection from the crystal report using the Database Expert >> Create New Connection >> Oracle Server and I include the following parameters.:
    - Service: host:1521/XE
    - Username: username
    - Password: password
Then when I tried to connect the crystal report crashes always.
Is there any way to create a connection to the Oracle Database 10G express from Crystal Report 11?
    Please advise...

    Thank you bala,
First, How I should start the Listener on the database server?
    Listener.ora content:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    +(SID_LIST =+
    +(SID_DESC =+
    +(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)+
    +(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)+
    +(PROGRAM = extproc)+
    +)+
    +(SID_DESC =+
    +(SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)+
    +(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)+
    +(PROGRAM = extproc)+
    +)+
    +)+
    LISTENER =
    +(DESCRIPTION_LIST =+
    +(DESCRIPTION =+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Daoud-PC)(PORT = 1521))+
    +)+
    +)+
    DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER = (XE)
How to configure the tnsnames.ora on the client side?
    tnsnames.ora content:
    XE =
    +(DESCRIPTION =+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Daoud-PC)(PORT = 1521))+
    +(CONNECT_DATA =+
    +(SERVER = DEDICATED)+
    +(SERVICE_NAME = XE)+
    +)+
    +)+
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    +(DESCRIPTION =+
    +(ADDRESS_LIST =+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))+
    +)+
    +(CONNECT_DATA =+
    +(SID = PLSExtProc)+
    +(PRESENTATION = RO)+
    +)+
    +)+
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
    +(DESCRIPTION =+
    +(ADDRESS_LIST =+
    +(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))+
    +)+
    +(CONNECT_DATA =+
    +(SID = CLRExtProc)+
    +(PRESENTATION = RO)+
    +)+
    +)+
Now I`m trying to initialize this on one machine (database & client) and so the crystal report will be on the same machine where the database exist; Additionally, this machine has OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and include the Oracle 10g Express Database & Oracle 10g Express Client software.
Please check the files content I included above and give me the way on how to establish a connection from the crystal report to the database where both are installed on the same machine.
    Thanks in advance...

  • Unable to connect Oracle 10g Express from Visual Studio Server Explorer

    Hello,
Please help me out here. I am connecting from Visual Studio 2008 to Oracle 10g Express Edition and the I have installed the ODAC 11 and the ODP.NET as well for Visual Studio(Both include Oracle Developer tools). But whenever I tried to connect from my Visual Studio 2008 server explorer so that I can have the database and its object there, I do get this error : "ORA-12560 : TNS: protocol adapter error."
The following is what I specified in my connection box:
    DataSource Name: (Local Database)
    Username : HR
    Password: the password for it.
My OS is : Windows Vista Ultimate.
Please anyone who has solved such error should just help out here.
    Thanks all

Thank you for your reply. I will like to know if you can use Visual Studio. In visual studio there is what we called Server Explorer and from there you can create connection and access all the database server from there. I am able to connect to the Oracle XE through the browser and I was able to crete table and other stuffs like that but when I tried to connect from Visual Studio 2008, I get the 12560 Error. I checked my TNSNAMES and found this:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = OLAMMIE)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = CLRExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
Look at what I have in my Sqlnet.Ora file,
    # This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
    # install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
    # authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
Please kindly help me out of this as it is very urgent. I can connect from browser using http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex but cannot connect from my C# code and Server Explorer. What is likely to cause this error.
Thank you for helping me in advance.

You could also try using "<host name or IP address>/xe" as connection string (database).
