Attaching objects to text

Hi there,
I have a very large document that I've been working on for months that has hundreds of objects placed around paragraphs with carefully organized formatting text wrap. I just realized that I'm going to have to add some text (and new photos) at the beginning and within the document. When I try to add new text, it pushes the existing text down but leaves the objects where they are, totally screwing up all of my formatting. Am I doing something wrong? How do I "lock" the objects to the text? I tried creating a blank document to cut and paste the existing text & objects so that I could add what I needed and then paste it back in, but it seems that I'm unable to select the text and the objects at the same time so that they move together. Any suggestions?

In the Word Processor document the text moves down when new text is put in front of it. If you have the object floating they will stay put. What to do?
1) You can insert a new page section break and you'll get a whole new blank page inserted at the new section break.
2) For having the images move with the text you have to make them inline. select the image and in the Tool bar or in the Wrap Inspector, choose Inline. You need to rewrap the images to place them where you want them.
3) Get the Pages User Guide fom the Help menu in Pages. It gives you a lot of good info on how things work in Pages.

Captivate does not have Speech to Text feature. It has text to speech, which is basically an audio file. You can generate the audio using this feature. The audio that is generated using this feature is in the library. You can drag and drop the audio on any object.

Send object behind text

Can you send an object behind text in the Ipad pages app so that the text is over the top of the object?

After some researching I found it more productive to use a
textArea component.
One reason was the UIScrollBar is attached to it so
dynamicallt resizing and moving is a breeze.
I looked into the movieclip method swapDepths() to change the
depth of movieclips and found
it may be useful down the road.
The main point of this thread was the dynamic UIScrollBar
sitting on top of the area when created.
With a dynamic textArea it positions itself acording to the
Layer hiarcy. Add setSyles and there is
no reason I see to use Dynamic text unless for less
overhead???

Error when attaching object link in DMS

Hi Experts,
I am calling the function module CV110_DOC_CREATE in my program. This program i have attached to a ztransaction.Thus the screen after entering the document type, document version and part in the cv01n transaction appears when my ztransaction is executed. But the problem is that i can attach object link (document info record) when the ztransaction is executed initially. But when i click on back button and again comes to the screen i am not able to attach the object link.Then it gives an error as " Object does not exist". Please help.

When the back button is clicked screen for my ztransaction comes.From there it is calling the actual screen to attach the object link.there i am trying to attach the object link again...then it is saying as object does not exists. This same dir i have attached earlier as object link when the ztransaction was run initially.

I am trying to place a multilple page pdf as an anchored object in text. Ideally I'd like it to flow in and size to the column width. Is this possible? Im running ID 5.5 on windows 7. Ive tried the script for MultiPageImporter-but I cant seem to get it place the pdfs in text. Any ideas?

If you use the mutlipage importer to import the PDF into a New Document that has the same width as your text frame (perhaps a bit smaller).
Then Export that to PDF from InDesign.
You should now have a smaller PDF.
Then in your document you want to place that PDF choose File>Place and select the New PDF you created.
Make sure the Show Import Options is ticked.
Import all the Pages.
You now have to manually place the PDF into the document into the text to anchor them.

Anchored Objects with text wrap, need vertical space

Hi. I'm a fairly new InDesign user and have just this past week learned about anchored objects, threading text frames, numbered lists, and some other fun options. So far InDesign has done most everything I need fairly elegantly. However, I have not been able solve one issue.
In my book I have numerous pages that have this issue; I'll just describe one case. On this page there are 4 graphics running down the right side of the page. These are not anchored graphics. They do have text wrap defined on the left side and bottom. There is text that wraps lovely on the left.
Each of these four graphics has a specific paragraph it needs to top align with. However, the text it aligns with may not take up as much vertical space as the graphic does. When I anchor each graphic with the paragraph it needs to align with, the four graphics overlap each other.
At the moment, to make it look right, I have placed each graphic individually and added a blank paragraph above each paragraph of text that should align with a graphic and use the Space Above of each blank paragraph to have it align with the graphic.
I'm not even sure what to search to try and solve this. I looked briefly into compound paths, but that didn't look like it would help.
I hope this is clear and thank you for any assistance at all.

No problem. Click your cursor somewhere in the paragraph that ought to be aligned with the next image down, then run this Javascript.
It's not entirely accurate, as it uses the font size to do a minimal adjustment where it actually should use the font's cap height -- but you cannot get to that through scripting. This final adjustment is necessary because ID does know the baseline, and your first line ought to dip just below this to have the top of the first line aligned to the top of the image.

This image shows three paragraphs aligned with their respective images (it won't work on the first paragraph, but that ought not to be necessary anyhoo).

Can't move objects or text boxes in indesign CS6

I'm using a Mac (10.8.5), CS6 InDesign, and today my move tool stopped working. Any object or text box I create I can't move with the selection tool/dragging it -- they'll move with the arrows on my keyboard. I tried resetting the preferences (cmd + opt + control + shift). Any other fixes?

Anchoring objects to text in InDesign CS5.0

Hi,
I'm trying to convert a heavily styled book with lots of photos and charts to Kindle. When I export to Kindle, it's a mess. Is it possible to anchor objects to text in CS5? I know CS5.5 can do it, but I'm having a hard time figuring it out in CS5.
Any helpful hints for making this conversion as easy as possible ... and without knowing any HTML would be greatly appreciated.

Here is how she suggests you do it in InDesign CS5:
Place the cursor in the flow of your book where you want to illustration to go (at the beginning of a paragraph).
Press Return to create a separate paragraph for the illustration
Apply an Illustration paragraph style. She suggests setting autoleading so the paragraph expands to the height of the illustration.
Choose File > Place to place the illustration in that paragraph.
If you need a caption, press return to create a new paragraph and apply the Caption style.

Lock objects to text

Does anyone know of a way to lock floating objects to text in a Pages09 document? I love the way Pages deals with floating objects, so much better than Word, but I'd like to be able to lock individual or grouped objects (images, text boxes) to a specific paragraph, so they move together during editing. I see how to lock objects to a specific location on a page, but this is not what I want.

What you are requesting is called an anchor and it is a feature that I too wish Pages had. For now, if you want an object to flow with our edited text, the only choice is an inline object. However I have found that either Pages 09 has better inline text wrapping or I totally missed that Pages 08 got it. Try placing an object inline, setting its text wrapping to on, and then play with the options. You might find that you can get what you want this way.
I'm in the midst of creating a large set of tutorials with lots of pictures of menus, palettes, and the like. Each tutorial is from 5 to 12 pages long. Even though I'm not getting the exact placement I want using this method, it is close enough for me to use while I'm writing and editing. When I'm finished with a tutorial I've been going back and making some of them floating objects again and tweaking their locations a bit. A bit of a kludge but we work with what we've got, eh?

Objects print Text does not?

I installed a new black ink cartridge
and only objects print text will not print.
I drew a black box to test the black ink and
a dark gray box prints but not black.
My main concern is text will not print or
only very faintly.
I wiped the contacts on the cartridge but no difference.
The printer is and HP 830c which as always worked.

Turn off print color - print grayscale to test black ink cartridge. Continually print black boxes full ink until print head clears and wipe head with wet hot cotton ball. Black print slowly gets better and better. These were re manufactured print cartridges from PrintPal.

Links set as objects and text are lost

Currently I am using Acrobat X (Trial) before purchasing it for my organisation. It seems that when I try to convert a Word 2003 document containing object and text links, most of them are being lost during the conversion to pdf using Acrobat X. I went through certain forums and found that this seems to be a known issue. Is there a workaround or a bug fix for these types of problems? Thanks in advance.

I am using the PDF Plugin (icon in Word 2003). Still, most of the object links are getting lost. I am not printing directly to the PDF printer.
