Attaching photos in gmail?

My photo files were successfully imported into iPhoto.  When I want to attach a photo in an email (gmail), I can't access individual folders/photos as I used to on PC.  How is this done on MacBook?  Thanks.

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Cant attach photos to gmail

first post here for me- i'm struggling to work out how to attach photos to to my composed gmail messages. I'm clicking on 'attach file' then 'choose file' but cant find any where amongst my documents, files and applications etc my photo libary from which to choose my photos.
I've tried bringing up iphoto, select a photo and drag/droping it onto the composed gmail message but that doesn't work either..
I know its got to be some simple way but I can't find it?
    help...

    Greetings,
    Welcome to Discussions.
The simply way only works if you use Mail to send your emails, not a webmail interface like gmail.com. You know, you can setup Gmail as a POP account in Mail. Then just choose the picture in iPhoto and click the Email button.
However, if you wish to continue to use the webmail interface (or another email app like Eudora) then you must choose the picture in iPhoto and choose to Share -> Export. Choose your desktop and I suggest that you scale large images to no more than 640 along the largest dimension. With Gmail, this is not such an issue, but the reader still has to download it. Then once it is on your desktop, you can attach it using the Choose method you describe. Then you can delete the file from you desktop after you send the email.
There is not advisable way to get the actual photo from where iPhoto stores it other than exporting it as noted.

  • I am trying to attach photos in an e-mail (Gmail), however I can't access yesterday's or todays photos which were downloaded from the iphone to iphoto, and added to a new album. I can access all photos from all days previous to yesterday. Why? I

I am not able to access today's or yesterday's photos in the Attachment box when trying to e-mail photos using Gmail. I am using a new Mac Book Pro, photos from my iPhone, and download to iPhoto. All photos previous to yesterday are accessible. This is a recurring issue. Any help here?

The photos is question don't show up in the Last Import smart album?
In the Event mode set View ➙ Sort Events ➙ By Date ➙ Descending.  That way the newest Events will be at the top of the window.  Do you see the photos in the last couple of events?
If no to all of the above try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.

I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library.  I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive.  I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space.  Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb.  Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
    -eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
    -live happily ever after
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!

If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.
-move aperture library to live on external drive
Managed or Referenced Library? Managed -
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit Aperture
    2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced -  relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.
-import iphoto library into aperture library
FIle -> Import -> iPhoto Library? Have you done this already? If so are you trying to move the Masters to Aperture from an  iPhoto Library? Or Consolidate them?
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
You can't. Every photo is in a Project.  They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app  you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.

  • AdBlockPlus is preventing me from attaching photos to emails I want to send via gmail - How do I correct this?

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/877475''
Quite some time ago I switched to Mozilla Firefox, and installed AdBlocker. Have had NO ads since then and have been very happy with it. Ever since I've had AdBlocker, when I go to attach a file to an email I'm about to send in gmail, I see a little word "Block" pop up over "Attach a file". I just always ignored it. Now, however, I find I am unable to attach photos I want to send. When I click on that little word "Block" I get a whole menu that I don't really understand titled Add AdBlock Filter Rule. It shows this in the "New Filter" field at top: "||mail.google.com/mail/uploader/*. Under that a "Blocking Filter" radio button is selected, and under, under "Look for "Pattern", I see the item "mail.google.com/mail/uploader/*" is selected. At the bottom of the screen is a radio button "Custom" that has https://mail.google.com/mail/uploader/uploaderapi2.swf after it, but that button is not selected. I just removed all custom filters in an attempt to get rid of whatever is disallowing me to attach photos. But that didn't work. Any ideas? I'm lost

BTW, I should have said AdBlockerPlus above - I have ABP, not just AB.

  • Unable to attach photo in iPhoto library using gmail in Safari

I am unable to attach a photo that is in the iphoto library when I am sending an email from my gmail account in Safari. The way it should work is to go to Compose new emai, then click on attach file which opens a window to navigate to the photos folder. Inside that folder is a iphoto library which has the photo I want to send. It is not possible to open the library and choose the photo! Instead it tries to attach the entire library! I have no problem attaching photos that are in folders in the photos folder.
I know Ican open the photos folder and find the picture and drag it to the message. What I want to do is be able to use the attach file dialogue window. Thanks!!!

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click Details then remove all Google related data.
    Same for Jimdo.
Then press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try Gmail or Jimdo.
    If that didn't help ..
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try Gmail to test.

  • When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts.

When we attach photos to an email in the Apple Mail app, the photos appear tiny on gmail accounts. They are unable to download the file as the size sent. We have tested this in multiple gmail accounts and we have tried sending as different sizes and actual size with no difference. Other photos attached in other ways come through fine. This seems to be a a result of the recent iphotos to photos app update.
Please advise on if this is a bug with how mail is ending the photos or how gmail is receiving them.

Try using Mail as the email client for iPhoto and see if that will fix the problem:

  • Attaching photos to places like facebook/yahoo/gmail

iPhoto library is grayed out when attempting to attach photos in internet-based applications such as facebook or yahoo. Photobooth pics can be selected. As a workaround, I can move a picture to desktop and then find it and attach it.
I don't understand why the picture folder cannot be used as it contains .jpg files. Are they somehow locked and is there a way to either automatically redirect or save to a new location so these photos are automatically there when attempting to attach?
    Any ideas here?

With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are no user serviceable parts in the iPhoto Library. Any time you access it with the Finder or some other application you risk damaging it.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:

All of these are a:faster and b: safer than rooting through the iPhoto Library Folder.

OK. Thank you. Is there any way to get rid of that little "Block" pop up above over "Attach a file" when composing an email in Gmail? I think the problem I'm having (being prevented from attaching photos to emails) is because I may have inadvertently clicked that Block pop-up numerous times. I can't think of any time when I would want to block myself from attaching items to email I compose. So I don't really need that pop-up. How can I stop that from appearing?

  • How can I get to see attached video, How can I get to see attached photos sent from my iPad in a normal browser mail?

Let me elaborate: I sent a photo from the mail app my iPad has and I sent it to myself. When I receive the mail I get to see the attached photo on the mail app but when I get to look it on a normal browser FROM the iPad I doesn't appear. However when I do get to see the mail from a browser from any other device I can get to see the photo. Please help!!

Whoever provides you web access to your email may suppress photo viewing on mobile devices. You should check with them. (E.g., ask Google if it's Gmail, ask your ISP if it's your ISP's webmail viewer, etc.)

The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

I'm sorry for the confusion. I understand completely how gmail works, that's not the issue. I only included that info as a possible referenc. To be more specific, sharing photos from iPhoto was easy. Options to share using message, email, Facebook, etc were always available.
