Attaching pictures to Mail from within iPhoto

For my sister in law I am trying to find out, why she cannot attach photos to mails anymore, i.e. from within iPhoto. In iPhoto, when you select one or more photos, then click on Mail on icon list below the photos, the photos are prepared for attachment. In a pop-up window you can choose from different sizes, for example. When you click on ok, a progress bar appears. Once the process is complete nothing happens, Mail does not open. Also, there is no draft mail created in Mail. What went wrong? How do I fix it? Attaching photos by dragging them on the Mail icon in the dock works fine, though. Thanks a lot in advance.

Given that iPhoto goes through the motions of resizing etc, I would suspect the problem is at the Mail end.
Has she tried repairing permissions with Disk Utility?

  • Email from within iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) quit working

I am running Leopard (10.5.1) and iPhoto '08 (7.1.1) on a 2.4ghz 17" MBP. Whenever I try to email a photo from within iPhoto it pops up a window to let me choose size & options, I hit the Compose button, it will then popup a window saying that it is Preparing photos for email... then that window just goes away and it never creates the new email. I see this same behavior regardless of whether or not Mail is already open and regardless of what photo I am trying to email. This was working fine in the past... believe that it quit working after the upgrade to 10.5.1 (but not absolutely positive of that)... Any troubleshooting ideas would be greatly appreciated as I use this feature quite often.
    Cheers!
    Kirk

    Kirk:
Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Next, if needed, download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Are you able to email from Mail with those two accounts?  If so:
1 - go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete both accounts. Now add them back and try again.
2 - a better solution IMO is to set Mail as the email client for iPhoto is iPhoto's General preference pane.  This gives you better access to your contacts, a sent copy of all emails and, if you want a layout similar to iPhoto's, photo layouts located in Mail's stationary.

  • Deleting images from HD from within iPhoto

I know this topic has been discussed in an incredibly unimpressingly high number of discussions forums throughout the world. I know that I should be able to find the answer in one ore more of these forums, but two days has passed and my girlfriends is getting ****** because I am still swearing in front of my computer. So, please help me.
I recently startedusing iPhoto (still unsure whether this was smart or not). I have UNchecked “Copy images to iPhoto library”, which means that iPhoto is working with my original files as they were and will be stored in my own catalogue structure.
I deleted pictures from within iPhoto, and emptied the trash folder in iPhoto. The photos disappear from the interface in iPhoto, but when using Finder I see that the photo is still in its catalogue on the HD - as they were before I deleted them from within iPhoto. It seems to me that it is impossible to, from within iPhoto, permanently delete a picture form BOTH iPhoto library AND the HD.
The logic of iPhoto hence differs from the logic of iTunes. When you delete a song from iTunes, you are asked if you also want the file/song deleted from the HD. Not so with iPhoto.
Does this mean that iPhoto is unable to delete a picture from the HD? And if so, who the **** decided to make iPhoto so utterly incapable of accomplishing such simple and fundamental task?

    LarryHN wrote:
This was a bit frustrating since I only (or at least mainly) bought iPhoto for the purpose for looking thorugh my pictures and deleting the once I do not want to keep - witch iPhoto is not capable of doing since I want to keep my files (or at least the ones I do not want to delete) in its original catalogue structure on the HD.
this is incorrect - Unless you tell iPhoto that you want to manage your originals yourself deleting from iPhoto and emptying the iPhoto trash and the system trash totally delete the photo from iPhoto and from disk
IF you spcifically choose to manage your own originals then you have to manage your originals as you want to - this is one of many reasons what this mode of operation is not recommended
    LN
Perhaps this isa matter for terminology? You say that I "want to manage" the originals myself, and you use this as a way of characterizing my wish to keep the files in their original file structure and not in the iPhoto library.
Regardless of terminology (so please do not refer to “you want to manage” and “you opted tomanage yourself”), what I take from your input is that IF I want to keep the files in their original catalogue structure and not in iPhoto library, THEN I cannot use iPhoto as a tool to manage (hereunder deleting from the HD) the pics.
Hopefully I ammistaking on the way I read you. Nothing would make me happier than to learnthat I can (1) keep the files in its original catalogue structure, (2) AND useiPhoto to delete from the HD the files I do not want to keep.

  • I try to print a thumbnail from within iPhoto and it keeps telling me I don't have any themes installed. When I look in iPhoto folder the themes folder is there. Themes are in app. Support also. I rebuilt iPhoto database and rebooted but no cure. DICKSTER

Try to print from within iPhoto a thumbnail & I get message that there are no themes installed. They are in iPhoto folder and a folder of themes is in the library/ application support. I rebuilt iPhoto data base using iPhoto rebuild. No change, also rebooted hd.
Can someone straighten me out here?
    Thanks

    Restoring iPhoto 9 (11) Themes
First look in your HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there move it to the Trash. Also look in your Home/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder.  If there is one move it to the Trash.  Reinstall iPhoto as described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 -files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
3 - mount the disk that iPhoto 11 came on, either an iLife 11 disc or the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
If iPhoto 11 came with the computer then double click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" file and do a custom install.
Apply all of the latest iPhoto 9 (11) updates followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime version.

  • Filename attachment in E-Mail from Support Message

    Hello,
Can You explain me how to manage a filename of the attachment in E-Mail  from Solution manager ServiceDesk.
We receive the mail notification with attachment which has always same filename - "service_operation.pdf".
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Do you want to receive the e-mail as a pdf or e-mail? I suppose it is in a pdf. However, if you are unable to set teh attachment name, trying setting the e-mail in text format rather than pdf.
You can check the SCOT setiing for SMTP> Internet>Set--> Output formats for SAP documents. Keep this value as TXT.
    This should help.
    Thanks,

  • Why can I no longer play movie files from within iPhoto '08

After uploading all my stills and movie files from by digital camera to iphoto '08, I used to be able to click and play a movie file from within iphoto. The frame and duration still appear but no response. Have I inadvertantly switched something off or has the funtionality changed as a result of my upgrading the OS.

Make sure you have the Quicktime Player 7 installed.  It was an option when installing Lion.  Or you can get it here: QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.  Install it, reboot and try again.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you repair disk permissions after installing iLife 08? If not do so now. Next delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that's in your User/Library/Preferences folder.

  • Trouble when sending pictures by mail from iPhoto

Hello. Recently, while sending pictures with the mail function of iPhoto 9, some pictures have been transformed in tiff format (in this case the name of the picture is becoming PastedGraphic-1 (or2, 3 etc...).tiff.
The size of these .tiff files being at least 3Mo (or more), in general my messages never arrived to their destination.
This problem is not recurent: sometimes it happens, sometimes not, and you become aware of the problem when you receive an error messge of your internet provider regarding the size of the mail you sent and was not distributed because his size.
So this is a little bit boring....
Who got the same kind of problem? is there is a solution?

    Thanks for your comment.
The original pictures are jpg. That's making this issue a little bit mysterious..
One more thing: last time I got the problem, I was sending 7 pictures from iPhoto: two of them were compressed in jpeg, the 5 other ones in this PastedGraphic.tiff
Total weight of the message: 21,9Mo instead of 1,8Mo. That's the difference!

  • Unable to send pictures with mail from iPhoto

Since yesterday i cannot use iPhoto to send pictures with mail, it just does not open a new mesage in mail. can you help me please? have done cleaning tasks and repeired permissions already. thank you.

    Does anything happen?
Have you deleted the iPhoto Preference file - A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

  • I can no longer send picture e-mails from my ipod. Why?

I use to be able to send pictures from the Photos app to my e-mail. Now when I try & send them, I never get them. I also tried sending them to the Facebook mail, but again- never get them. No error message pops up on my ipod. Any suggestions?

Oh my goodness! Thank you sooo much! This worked. I can now stop sending the business e-mails from my personal account - ha ha. Since you helped me with this, maybe you can help me with one more thing. I haven't been able to attach to e-mails in this account for quite awhile now, just been using a jump drive, since a previous automatic update. I didn't obsess over it due to the fact that I could still send e-mails. Any more help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
By the way, you also put it in terms I could understand. I'm not computer illiterate, just not as up to date as I should be. Step-by-steps help alot! :D

  • Why can't I type in the To field to email photos from within iPhoto?

I selected some photos then Share > Email. I can type in the Subject and in the body of the email. I can select the To field but when I type nothing shows up in it. Stumped. I'll email by dragging into Mail, but I'd like to know what's up.

Set up iPhoto to use Mail instead of iPhoto for the mail client in the General preference pane:
If you want a template use one of Mail's many stationary templates:
Try the following to get iPhoto to accept text in the To field of iPhoto's mail window:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
