Attaching the background music file to the clips

Hello! I'm not sure if I can do this with iMovie but I hope so!
I have made a video that consists of a large number of short clips and I have set it to music. What I want to do now is rearrange those clips but keep the music that is playing with each clip. So when the new video gets played the music will be all shuffled up.
For an example: let's say I have four clips in my movie and they are, in order, A, B, C and D. The music playing the background is "I'm a little teapot". During clip A the lyric "I'm a little teapot" plays. During clip B "short and stout" plays and during clip C "here is my handle" plays and in clip D "here is my spout". What I want to do is reorder those four clips so the movie plays them as B, D, C and A and keeps the music linked to each clip. So, when watching the new video, you hear "short and stout here is my spout here is my handle i'm a little teapot."
Is that possible? Can you link the background music to the individual clips in this way? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are a couple of ways to do this.
1) In iMovie, drag the music clip from the media browser into the project and drop it on the first clip.
Adjust the rear handle so it only plays during the first clip. Then drag in the same music clip from the media browser to the second clip. Drag the front handle to the right so that it starts playing where the other one left off. Drag the back handle to the left until it only covers one clip. Repeat until done.
2) If you know the length of your clips, use Garageband to create a series of short audio clips that are the exact length you need for each clip. Then drag and drop on the iMovie clips.

  • How do I find and save the background music file of my Flash site?

I see that the background music in my Flash site is located in a symbol called muz.  When I click the properties of this symbol, the sound file's location is listed as .\flash\sound\muz.wav  I couldn't find that sound sub-folder in the flash folder nor could I find the file.  I tried doing a search to look for the muz.wav file in my computer but it could not be found.  Does anyone know how I can find and save this file?  Can the symbol somehow be exported and the sound file be extracted that way?

I copied and pasted the symbol into an empty .fla file.  This new .fla file is just 1 frame.  Can you tell me what you mean by "spreading" it along the timeline?  When I tried exporting it to a .wav file (as just 1 frame in timeline), I only hear a fraction of a fraction of the first note of the music in the generated .wav file.  The music is heard fine in its entirety when previewing the .fla file (F12).
By the way, in the symbol's properties, there is an option to "Export for ActionScript" and an option to "Export for runtime sharing".  Do you think any of these would work?

You can use some third party software to copy the music from your old iPod back to computer first, and then import the music into iTunes and re-sync them to yournew iPod. Here is a guide about how to transfer iPod music to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • How can I get the background music from iMovie trailer, "Romance"to be used in another imovie?

Is there any way to download the background music from the  iMovie trailer template "Romance" to be used in another iMovie of greater length than that of a trailer?

In addition to Tom's good advice, another method is to access the audio file in iMovie's package contents folder.
In Finder, in the Applications folder, right-click (or control-click) on iMovie.app and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. Open the folder Contents>Resources. In that folder you will find components for each Trailer, including the soundtrack. The file you are seeking is named "SoundTrack - Romance.m4a".
Copy then paste the file to your Desktop (don't otherwise mess with items in package contents folders!). Open the file in QuickTime - it is titled "Love Story FC2". Opening the Inspector in QuickTime (Window>Show Movie Inspector) reveals it as AAC format. If you wish, as Tom indicated, you can Export the file from QuickTime in other sound formats, such as AIFF. If preferred, you can import either the AAC file or the converted file to iTunes (or other audio apps) for use as required.

  • What is the background music to this video I know it's a ilife jingle or sound effect but what is it

I was a watching a video of a prank from these well known prank ears on youtube and I want to know what the background music is I know for a fact that it is a ilife jingle or sound effect but I don't know what it is here's a link to that video listen to the background music please reply. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Adcy-66et3s
It is also at the beginning of a video by theroyalstampede just goto their vids and look for superman car yard
It's like an irish theme but WHAT IS IT ?

Shazam identifies it as "Dirry Of Dj Smellyballz 2" by Big J. This could be wrong of course - I've never heard of that particular tune. My first attempt to identify it picked up the tune in the ad preceding the video clip, hence my reason for deleting my earlier post.
I agree with AppleMan in that I've never come across it in the iLife jingles.

  • Can I delete the my music file on my computer

I have over 11K songs on my i tunes and almost 30k songs on my music.  It's taking up too much room on my computer.  Can I delete the my music files just have the I tunes,   or delete the my music file and then drag the music from I tunes and put it in the my music.
I sure there are a lot of doubles in the my music file.
I also have an external hard drive.
    Can you please help  me.
    Thank you so much.
    Sally

Yes... With iTunes closed move the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> to the top of the external drive, e.g. as X:\iTunes where X:\ is the drive letter, then click the icon that starts iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key and keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose then browse to and open the file X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl - your library should show exactly as before. Double check that the media folder under Edit > Preferences > Advanced now reads X:\iTunes\iTunes Media. (I'm assuming here that your library won't be old enough for the media folder to have been called iTunes Music as it was back on iTunes 8.) Once you've checked that use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files in case the library is connected to any files stored outside of the media folder. This brings in copies of those files.
If you think there is media in <User's Music> that was not previously connected to the iTunes library you can move this into X:\iTunes\Automatically Add to iTunes otherwise you can discard files that you know to be duplicates.
As for duplicates already within the library, or created by moving the remnants of <User's Music> into Automatically Add to iTunes, Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls. (Such as lost playlist membership!)
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • I had to install a new hard drive because my old hard drives boot files became corrupted, and i want to get all of my music files off the old hard drive and regain all my play counts/ratings/playlists

    Greetings everyone
as the title says, ive had to install a new hard drive  and i want to transfer my old itunes library onto the new drive, maintaining all playlists/play counts/ratings etc, album artwork if possible. The old hard drive is installed as a slave drive and is completely acessible, but due to the boot files being corrupted i cannot use it as the main drive and therefore operate my old itunes. Also, my ipod no longer contains my music library as itunes synced without my permission and wiped it.
The only thing i have tried is copying all of my old music files from the old drive by selecting 'add folder to library' and then the old drive, then replacing the new itunes library.itl file with the one from my old itunes. This restores all my playlists and playcounts but when i try to play any of the songs it says that the files could not be found, and i dont fancy locating  8500 music files individually!
Thankyou for taking the time to read my post, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Ah, my reply was based on the assumption that you had a default installation of iTunes.
i.e you had all your music in the iTunes media folder inside your iTunes folder.
If your iTunes folder is so small compared to the amount of music you have, you must have a different arrangement.
    This complicates you situation considerably.
iTunes can cope with moving around as long as all the music is in the iTunes media folder, not not if it isn't.
Your first step should be to get iTunes working on the old drive. This will involve editing the xml library file so that the drive letter is correct and then rebuilding the library from the xml file.
Then you will need to consolidate your library which moves everything into the iTunes media fodler. After that you will be able to use my first suggestion.
    Step 1
Find the iTunes folder on the old drive and copy the two library files somewhere else so you can find them again. That's iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Library.xml.
Now open the copy of iTunes Library.xml with WordPad.
    Look for lines starting:
    Location
These contain the paths to tracks.
You will need to use a find/replace to change the drive letter so that it is correct.
Make sure that you include enough in the "find" so that you only change the right thing.
Maybe /c:/ and replace with /d:/ or whatever.
After that, tell iTunes to use the library on the old drive with a shift key start.
Hold down the shift key and start iTunes, keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose a library. Navigate to the iTunes folder on the old drive and choose iTunes Library.itl.
    Then use the method in the following article to rebuild your library;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
Unfortunately the date added will be today for all tracks.
If iTunes works correctly after this, consolidate your library
    File>>Library>>Organize>>consolidate
This copies all tracks into to iTunes media folder and could create a problem if you do not have disk space so don't do it if you are unsure about free disk space.
Check that iTunes works OK and then use the first method.

  • HT3842 Does iTunes store the original music file and copy it into a separate folder? If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library?

Hi, on my last PC when transferring music to my new MacBook Pro i noticed i had about 6 duplicated of each song in every album i took hours in removing them.
I Just wondered Does iTunes store the original music file and then copy it into a separate folder?
If i delete the original file from finder will it remove it from my iTunes library or vice versa. I didnt want to lose any music like i have some how managed to on my old computer.
Or should i keep both files of it in the Music folder and also iTunes library folder?
    Which is best ?

    DrewPowell wrote:

It does both at the same time.
When you add files to iTunes, it copies them into /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/ folder. The original file remains where it was.
You can drag a file to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/Automatically add to iTunes/ folder.
This will add to iTunes and move it to /Music/iTunes/iTunes media/.
I keep a shortcut of this folder on my desktop then simply drag files to the shortcut to add to iTunes.
Then there are no "extra" files around.

  • How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?

How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?
The music I want to move was in iTunes but is now just files. I had to reinstall a new iTunes and lost all my old music.
    Thank you!

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • One song on my iPhone only plays the background music on the build-in iPhone speakers. The song has been on my phone for a while and it used to play just fine. With the headphones on it plays normally.

Please help! (I'm actually doing this for a friend but still)
    All you need to know:
    - iPhone 4 16GB
    - iOS 6.0.3 (I think, not the latest iOS but the one before that)
    - Song which started to act strange: niggas in Paris
    - All songs work fine on headphones (including above)
    - The song has been on the iPhone for a couple of months and used to play without any trouble
    - When you play it on the iPhone's speakers you either only hear the background music, no sound at all (for a few seconds) or a weird old FM-radio noise
    - Plays fine on iTunes
    All help is appreciated!
    Thanks.

I have this issue too.  Same specs, newest OS.  Happening on "O.N.E." by Yeasayer, but doesn't play the vocals through the speaker or headphone jack, unlike your issue.  I just get all but the vocal track no matter what.  Plays fine in iTunes.  If you never get that distortion through the speaker any other time, maybe you can delete the song.
In my case, I can't delete the song through the phone since I use iTunes Match, but if you actually sync the songs/download them, that would be my first suggestion (swipe across, hit "delete.").  Maybe that would work?  Then resyncing or redownloading.
If not, maybe resetting or restoring may be the fix.

  • C5-03; how to view music files in the memory card ...

Is it possible to view the files in the memory card (using the File Manager) folder-wise? I have some music files in the memory card; in a folder named 'Music'.  When I go to Menu - Applications- Office- File mgr - E:Memory car-Music , I see the files in different collections corresponding to the artist/ genre names.  I don't see the folders I had created.  The artist/ genre (meta) data is not accurate and so the listing based on that is not useful.
This is related to the problem with Palylists I had posted earlier.

go to music player select options and refresh player this will pick up all the music
you will get a message on screen for example 40 songs added the go to music player select all songs
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Is there a way to make the AAC music files smaller?

A while ago the AAC music files seemed to double, I want to save room on my computer so I've been changing all my songs to the mp3 setting instead, but I would like to go back to AAC, but they are way to big. Does anyone know how to make them smaller?

Go to iTunes>Preferences, click the 'Import Settings' button: choose the 'AAC' encoder in the top menu, set the second menu to 'Custom' and choose your bitrate.
Now close Preferences. Now go to the 'Music' section in iTunes. Select all the songs you want to convert. From the 'Advanced' menu choose 'Create AAC Version'. Copies of the selected songs will be made as AAC files. You can drag these out to the Desktop or a folder and delete them from iTunes, or delete the MP3 versions.
However note that if you have moved to MP3 you have already degraded the quality, and while you can make the files a good deal smaller doing so will degrade it further. You would need to experiment so you can balance degradation of quality agains file size.

  • Can't see certain music files in the music library

I have recently imported some CD's and can see the files in the correct location in the C drive, however I cannot see them in the itunes music library. The file names are identical to others that I can see.

No, that was just to confirm that they don't have an incompatibility, and they passed the test.

    is there a short cut?
If you know where they are, just drag the whole folder into the main iTunes window (or use File > Add Folder to Library) and they should all add.
To the original problem, were these tracks imported by iTunes from audio CD?

  • How do you change the background color not of the video clip, but the background the clip is on?

How do you change the background color upon which the clip resides...
I don't want to change anything within the clip itself, but the matte(?)
from black to white or cream.
I am working with Elements 10...

Create a color matte of the desired color and place it on video track 1.  Then place your video on track 2.
from here: Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Creating specialty clips
Create a colored matte for a background
You can create a clip consisting of a full‑frame matte of solid color, which you can use as a solid background for titles or animated clips.
Brightly colored mattes can serve as temporary backgrounds to help you see transparency more clearly while you adjust a key effect.
    Click Project Assets.
In the Project Assets panel, click New Item from the panel options and choose Color Matte.
Choose a color in the Adobe Color Picker dialog box, and click OK.
A color matte clip is placed into both the Project Assets panel and the Expert view timeline.

  • Is there a way to mute the background music in a slideshow so the audio of an included video can be heard?

I am running iPhoto 11 version 9.4.2 (710.42) on a MacBook Pro.  Some of the slide shows I have developed have videos included along with photos.  I have added background music to these slide shows with the sideshow music selector.  The videos have audio that I want the viewer to hear, however the background music continues to play and the video audio is hard to hear, and when there is music in the audio of the video, the two musical pieces tend to clash. Is there a way to mute the background music so the audio of the video can be clearly heard?
    Thanks,
    Dave

That's called 'ducking' and no, not with iPhoto. You need something with more control of the soundtrack.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
    iMovie, on every Mac sold.
Others, in order of price: PhotoPresenter  $29
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.
