Attachment way too large, now Mail crashes, can't stop process

My daughter attached a huge .AVI movie to an e-mail to send it to her friend and Mail tried to send it for a long time then crashed. Now, whenever we open Mail, it continues to try to send this thing and crashes each time. I've tried to delete the offending e-mail from the Out mailbox but it always reappears the next time Mail is started. How do I get out of this loop? The job never finishes before it crashes and then it starts all over again the next time Mail is opened. Is there a way to "kill" or stop the process, force it to forget this job, and delete it so we can get back to using the Mail tool?

With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Outbox.mbox.
The Outbox.mbox represents "Out" in the mailboxes drawer and is shared by all accounts.
Delete the Outbox.mbox and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and a new Outbox.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the Mailboxes folder and this should resolve the problem.

  • TS3899 my recoverable mailbox wont stop. it seems i sent an email containing too uch or too large of pictures. how can I stop it

my recoverable mailbox won't stop. It seems I sent an email containing too many photos or too large, it will not stop attempting to send.

Posting this as it took me forever to find the fix.  No one with my carrier, Apple etc. seemed to know of the fix or for that matter even recognize that it was an issue. Hopefully this will help someone else.  This is for Exchange 2010
Log on to the Exchange server hosting OWA
start run cmd, right click on the cmd and choose run as adminsitrator
    cd C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\
    appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/serverRuntime /uploadReadAheadSize:"16000000" /commit:apphost
    appcmd.exe set config "Default Web Site" -section:system.webServer/serverRuntime /uploadReadAheadSize:"16000000" /commit:apphost

Note that 1600000 should be the size of the allowed email in bytes.

  • "This file attachment is too large to be viewed." What?

I created a 15.6MB m4v for iPhone using compressor to test being able to email clips to a client for review on his iphone. A couple of strange things. First, when the message is received, the attachment now reads that it is 20.6MB in size. Second, when I attempt to open it on my iPhone... it gives me the message "This file attachment is too large to be viewed."
Is there a limitation with the iPhone here that I didn't know about?

Yes this is a public board, which shouldn't exclude common courtesy.
This is a user to user help forum only and fellow users that post answers to questions or provide suggestions here volunteer their time to do so.
I don't have a problem with you providing what you think is a shortcoming, but there is nothing wrong with me providing a reasons or reasons why it isn't a shortcoming for the most part. If that is being "needlessly defensive", then you are needlessly interested only in thoughts that agree with your own.
What does that mean exactly? I wasn't suggesting they would, they usually use their own dedicated mail servers... which they can set to unlimited if they wish... which is why putting the limitation on the iphone pulls the rug out from under them if they want to use the iPhone AND send/receive large files via email. Pretty simple equation really.
What it means exactly is, you were talking about business use and you mentioned Gmail having a 20MB overall message size limit. Yes many businesses use their own dedicated server, which they can set to unlimited if they wish, but this will only work internally and with other businesses that do the same.
I'll bet you dollars to donuts the overwhelming majority of businesses with or without their own dedicated email server do not have an unlimited overall message size limit. Some may have a larger overall message size limit than 10MB, but 10MB is a very common limit.
So any way in which the iPhone can become more useful as a business device is a good thing... isn't it?
Certainly, but what you consider as being more useful may or many not match what I or someone else may consider as being more useful and there is nothing wrong with that.
Perhaps you will never need or otherwise enjoy landscape email, full screen attached video playback, or attachments greater than 10MB... but to not see the obvious improvement as a business device had these features been implemented in 2.0.2 just doesn't make any sense to me.
I have been discussing overall message size limits only. I haven't mentioned anything about these other items.

  • Font size in email way too large! How to fix?

Hi, in beginning to use my new TOUR, the font email in just one of my 2 inboxes is way too large.  Why is it just 1 email box and not both?  And how do I change this setting for all/that specific inbox?
    Thanks!

  • Mail attachment was too big now that account is frozen

I have two Accounts set up in Mail.app.  One business, one personal via AOL.  Comcast is my ISP.  Attachments are limited to around 10-20 MB.
I tried to send an attached 5 MB Folder that I thought contained five 1 MB video clips.  When that didn't work, I split the contents into 5 separate e-mails.  When that didn't work, I noticed that these were all the actual sizes were GB not MB so I knew they were way too big to go as attachments.  However, Mail kept trying to send them.  Now, the personal account just spins but occasionally, new, outgoing mail will work.
Based on suggestions in this Forum, here is what I have done for troubleshooting so far:
Deleted the messages from the Outbox
Deleted the messages from the Drafts mailbox
In Mail Preferences, I deselected "Store Drafts on the Server."  (My guess was not only was Mail trying to send the messages, it was also trying to store a draft of each message.)
I forced quit Mail and went to ~/Library/Mail and deleted any copies of either the Message or the Attachment that I could find including those in the Outbox, Saved, and Recovered mailboxes/folders.  (I sorted the various folders by size making it fairly easy to find these large attachments and found the individual messages by the created date.)
I can retrieve my AOL Mail by going to their website but I still cannot get my AOL Account to work in Mail.app.
What do I do next?  Should I just delete the Account and recreate it?  Can I do this without losing old saved messages?  Note, everything is backed up by Time Machine.

    Hi,
When you select, New message ... is the window as big as your screen??
If this is the case, try to drag the window smaller and try again to attach any file you like in the message.
Is the drop down window smaller now?? if this is the case then drag the drop down wind to the size you like. On your right hand at the bottom you can drag it to the size you want.
Post back with the results ...

  • NoSquint properly resized web pages, but the upper taskbars are still too large--for instance, I can only the beginning of the URL. How to fix?

After the latest Firefox version magnified everything, I used the NoSquint add-on (at 60%), which now makes web pages look as they did before. However, although the top two bars at the top of the screen are of normal size, the lower ones are still too large. The bar that contains the URL on the left and a Google search space on the right, for instance, can display only the first couple of letters of a URL (after the //).
How do I make these bars look the way they used to? Thanks.

Hi Anne, there is a setting in Firefox that controls the scaling of both the toolbar area and the content area. I'm guessing that you have your Windows font setting at 150%. In that case, I'm going to suggest you try to manually adjust the scaling in Firefox to 125% and then set NoSquint to 80%.
    Here we go!
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''pix''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''layout.css.devPixelsPerPx''' and change its value to '''1.25''' for the equivalent of 125% font size in Windows display settings.
If you view a tab with an address bar and this is not quite right you can adjust it to a different value, such as 1.2 (120%) or 1.3 (130%).
Please do not go lower than 1.0 or everything will start to get tiny.
Once that looks right, you can go back into your NoSquint settings and up your global zoom level for content to a comfortable number.
Can you get it the way you want?

  • After installing Mavericks on my iMac, Apple Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  Now Mail crashes every time I open it.  What's up?

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account.  After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail.  Does anyone have an suggestions?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

My Itunes screen is showing up way too big. When I click on to go to it, my whole screen goes black, then it shows up too big and distorted.
Is there anything I can do to fix this on my own?
    Thank you.

When the large image is on your screen, try clicking on the green dot (top left of window).

  • Attachment file too large

    Hello,
    I have messaging server 7.
I am composing the message having attachment around 5MB and 4.2 MB
    It says file too large.
I checked the domain level attachment quota, it is unlimited.
i tried putting value 10,1000, however no effect.
    what am I missing.
    Users quota is unlimited.
    regards,
    Sumant

It says file too large. There are two limits that control the size of emails composed in the various webmail interfaces (Messenger Express/UWC/Convergence):
    bash-3.00# ./configutil -H -o service.http.maxpostsize
    Configuration option: service.http.maxpostsize
Description: Maximum HTTP post content length. If not specified, uses max(5*1024*1024, service.http.maxmessagesize).
    Syntax: uint
    service.http.maxpostsize is currently unset
    bash-3.00# ./configutil -H -o service.http.maxmessagesize
    Configuration option: service.http.maxmessagesize
Description: Maximum message size client is allowed to send.
    Syntax: uint
    Default: 5242880
    service.http.maxmessagesize is currently unset
So the service.http.maxpostsize is the maximum size of any given attachment upload the service.http.maxmessagesize is the maximum overall size of the email => both are set to 5MB by default.
After changing the configutil settings you need to restart the mshttpd process for the change to take effect (./stop-msg http;./start-msg http).

    Shane.

  • JPEG Signature Block becomes too large as Mail Signature

I'd like to create a signature block to include in Apple Mail.  I have created an appropriately sized one in an image program, but when I drag and drop that jpeg into Apple Mail, it becomes larger, too large for my purposes and too large for the people receiving it.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Not sure what OS you're on, but...
    Might see if this helps...

  • Trying to send vid clip results in "file too large". Yet friends can send me clips larger. Why is this?

I cannot send video clips I have taken to friends.  I get "File too large". Yet friends seem to be able to send ME larger clips from their phones.
Do they have some app or something that zips or compresses files automatically?

Try reproducing the issue in Windows safe mode with Networking.... I think the guess of a synchronization issue was correct. I just think the blame finger went to the wrong place. Windows safe mode should confirm my guess... Or prove me wrong
Note that i can move messages in imap to live from junk to inbox and they are not corrupt.

  • LR 3.3 Video Opens Up Way Too Large

  • Bulk/spam mail, how can i stop it coming from yahoo mail

I have my iphone setup to send my emails to my iphone as I have yahoo mail. like the yahoo mail i can click on one box and delete all my bulk/spam mail with one click, but they also go to my iphone and what a paid deleting over 40 spam mails a day one by one, anyway either to stop my spam mail from going to my iphone and just stay in my yahoo mail where i can delete it there instead of from my iphone and or also is there a way if i cant do that, then delete all the spam mail with one click like i can in yahoo mail. Help.

Andrew: how do you train Yahoo mail to start putting spam in the proper folder and what folder is the folder? also I went into my iPhone and there was about 10 junk emails so i went into my yahoo mail and deleted all of them in my inbox and spam/bulk mail box and erased all of them and then emptied my trash even and i then hooked up the iphone and itunes came up ofcourse and did its thing and the emails are still in the iPhone. ???

  • My email keeps deleting me mail how can i stop this?

how do i stop my emails from deleting themselves from my mailbox

If you delete an email from your computer it will be deleted from your iPhone when you next open the iPhone's mail app.
If you delete an email from your iPhone it will be deleted from your computer when you next open your computer's mail app.
That is the way the IMAP mail protocol is designed to work. The deleted emails should still be in your Trash folder on your computer, and if you open the Trash folder on your iPhone it should sync.
If you don't want your emails deleted from iPhone or computer but don't want them in your inbox create a folder on your computer for Saved Mail, and, instead of deleting email, move it to Saved Mail.
If you don't want it to work this way then delete the mail account and add it back as a POP3 account. POP3 does not sync, but also does not support folders and will require that you delete all emails twice to get rid of them.

  • Upgraded to Mavericks, now mail crashes when I try to select/read an email.

Just installed Mavericks this morning and now my Mail (which has multiple accounts, gmai & .mac) crashes EVERY time I try to select an email to read/delete/manage.  I can send an email just fine, but the minute I go into a specific account and do anything CRASH! I restarted the system, I tried going into Mail preferences and removing all accounts and readding them. I tried deselecting the Mail function on each account then readding...nothing.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.
