Attachments can't be dragged to desktop, get Text Clipping instead
Has anyone had this problem?
I have a MacBook Air, OS 10.5.2, Mail 3.2. Every time or almost every time (98% of the time) when I try to drag an attachment or attachments to the desktop (from the attachment window within the email) I get a Text Clipping on the desktop instead of the documents.
I can save to the downloads folder and drag them out of there but that's just another time consuming step.
This has never occurred before with previous Mail versions until I got my MacBook Air and 10.5.2.
Anyone else having this problem?
Any suggestions?

I will have to pay attention to the body of the email to see if the attachment is highlighted. I do not try to drag it out of the body of the email, I turn down the triangle for the attachment window, revealing the attachments, highlighting them and then double click using my multi-touch pad and then try to drag them out (I do not use the touch bar below the pad area anymore). Most of the time, I can not see the entire email or the attachments in the email body, so I have never noticed if they are highlighted. They most likely are if I highlight them in the attachment window as I do.
The weird thing is, I have dragged out attachments the exact same way for years using Mail, but now there seems to be a problem.

Can't select, drag or do anything with clips
Can't select any clips in any iMovie project, but I can use the FILE, EDIT, WINDOW, etc. functions. Nothing else will work, not minimizing the program, not playing the clips, dragging, cutting, etc.
it started around the time I updated to Quicktime 7.4.1
I had been putting that off because of the issues with AE, but decided to run it last night. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or if it's just coincidental.Have the exact same problem, up till now everything worked fine. Not sure when it started, various OS - iApps - QT updates recently, but here it is. I dragged a 90 minute .mov file to the clips pane, 55 minutes of importing (including the 5 minute beach ball at the end) and although the drop down finder bar menus work I can't select anything in the window including the clip itself, timeline/clip viewer switch, or the red-yellow-green buttons at the top left corner. Although "select all" is available in the edit drop down menu nothing selects. Tried tossing the com.apple.imovie.plist with no change. Opened a new movie with nothing imported same thing.
Any ideas?

This is not just an ESPN or Sportsline problem because those websites are coming through fine with IE. And I have had the issue with other sites.
when I went to put music on it, I had to update my itunes to do so. when I did, bonjour cme up with an error message and wanted me to find the path "bonjour.msi".
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.) -
I had Leopard. I jumped to Mountain Lion. Sorry sorry sorry I did. Many things are stupidly difficult to do, minor tasks, that once were EASY.
I USED to be able to go onto a website, then DRAG AND DROP the ICON from it ONTO my desktop. NO MORE. Frankly, there is NOW no easy way that I've found ..........May I also say, Mountain Lion is one horrendous piece of ........##@@!!!. I gave my old iMac to a friend after upgrading it for her...with Mountain Lion. I wish to God I'd not tormented her with that OSX. I wish to God I'd not tormented myself with it on my own iMac.
Someone tell me......there MUST be an easy way to Drag/drop a website to my desktop for regular use??? IF NOT, we have YET another glitch on this stupid OSX.

When I now go to any website, I can only go on it by clicking FULL page. In other words, I can get to it by 2 ways, by putting it into the "google" bar, or by FULL screening to type in http....www....etc.
I am then in Full screen to access any website. THEN, I can no longer drag/drop the website's Icon to my desktop.......If I diminish, I lose the website. It may bring up the same site, but will not let me drag the site's icon ONTO my desktop to use in the future.
That seems to have disappeared with Mountain Lion. I was able to do it with ease on Leopard.

In Leopard, I would go to a website and could drag that website's icon ONTO my desktop. Period.
I am no longer able to do this with Mountain Lion.
If I try to drag anything, NOTHING happens OTHER than it replicates the page...it does not place an icon on my desktop to use in the future.

After installing Mavericks my iMac opens with the "rolling surf" desktop. I can then start my preferred desktop from a saved 'photo but when I retsart the iMac it reverts to "rolling surf". How can I get it to remember to open with MY choice rather than Apple's?
I did a little research on this, as I found some strange things with the .plist files.
It appears that Apple has changed the way that the plist files are handled, and there is now an extra step in the trashing-the-.plist-file fix:
1. hold down the option key
2. in the Go menu in the Finder, scroll down to Libary
3. in Library, find Preferences
4. in Preferences, find com.apple.desktop.plist and drag it to the trash.
5. go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor
1. Sort by Process Name and look for two processes named cfprefsd.
2. Make sure you select the one that has your user account, not "root", listed as the User.
3. Click the X up at the top left to kill that process
5. restart
6. this will generate a new .plist file, so you will have to reenter your preferences.

As the title says I need help on how to take a photo from one event and put it in another, without dragging to desktop and dragging back into iPhoto and moving it to the event folder I want it in. Right now when I want to move a picture from one event to another I drag it to my desktop then delete it from iPhoto then I drag it back into iPhoto and put where I want it.An example would be taking a photo from the Christmas event and add it to a specific person event. Can I do that within the events section without all the dragging. Also is there anyway I can remove duplicates from iPhoto without going through each and every file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Apple doesn't make it easy to do what you want. However, here's how I do it.
Select the photo you want to move and create a new Event for it via the Event ➙ Create Event menu option.
In the Event mode select the new Event with the one picture and drag it onto the Event you want to move the photo to. -

You have to use get a 3rd party video converter like WinAvi.

ThanksThis seems to be a desktop issue rather than an iPhoto one, as you can't drag from Mail either.
So I'd start by repairing permissions.

Some details like the OS version, version of iPhoto, what does happen and what does not ahppen, any recent changes, ect would at least give someone a chance to try to assist you

I am currently running Mavericks 10.9.5You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

I understand that with my Photoshop/Lightroom 9.95 subscription I can activate two "machines". Do I have to include my iPad and Android cell phone, both of which have LR Mobile installed, or can I just count my desktop and the laptop I'm getting ready to purchase?
