Attachments Embedded in the Email

I am using Mail 3.6. Whenever I attach an image or a PDF, they get embedded in the body of the e-mail rather than listed as a file. Non-Mac users tend to have a problem opening and saving these attachments, regardless of my advice to right-click and save.
Is there a way that I can prevent an image and/or PDF from being embedded in the body of the message?
Thanks!
Paul

I have just had this problem.
I think there is an issue if you use a signature but I have yet to get to the root of the problem. Try turn ing your signature off, attach / drag in your image into the email and then send.
I tried it with no signature and it works. With the signature it doesn't.

    Yes there is,
When you recieve a mail with an attachement (inline or as a picture) right click (or control click) the attachement and choose "show as symbol" or "show fullsize" (or completely or something like that, I don't work in English version). Mail will take this as a general preference.

  • How do I send photos as jpg icons not embedded in the email?

Hi was wondering how I would send a photo as a jpg icon and have it show up as the same icon, not the actual photo embedded in the email?

You can Command (right) - click  on the photo in the email and select View as Icon in the contextual menu.
Set the format as plain text as select Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments in the Edit ➙ Attachments menu.
It will display as an icon in the outgoing email.  However, no matter you do it will depend on how the receiving email client is configured as to how the photo will be presented at that end.

  • Why are my mail attachments embedding in the mail doc. rather than showing up as an attachment

after upgrading to Lion 10.7.2. It seems my mail document attachments are embedding in the email, rather than showing up as an attachment. How do I resolve this?

There's been a lot of discussion on this.  Some indicate that setting your email format to plain text will result in the photos being just attachments.  When I've tested it by sending to myself that's not been the case.
There's a 3rd party plugin for Mail that is supposed to do what you want.  I've not tested it so can't comment one way or another:
One way to assure the image files travel as attachments is to put them in a folder first and add the folder to the email body. That zips/compresses the folder and sends it that way.

  • Aperture Email Attachments are Embedded in the Email Sent to Windows PC's

I've searched the forum and have run across this problem discussed previously.  When sharing photos from Aperture 3.4.3 using the Email preset, the jpg's show up embedded in the body of the email when sent to people using PC's and running Outlook.  Oftentimes, the jpgs actually appear as thumbnails as well, and not full size.  I've tried the suggestions found here in this forum without any success.  In Mail, I have "windows friendly attachments" checked, although that particular menu item is greyed out, and can't either be selected or de-selected.  I've also formatted the email as "Plain Text".  Still photos attached don't show up on the Windows PC's as attachments.  I even exported a photo from Aperture to my desktop, then attached that jpg to an email, and got the same results.  I'm not sure if this is an Aperture problem, or a Mail problem.  I'm using Aperture 3.4.3 and OS 10.7 .  Am I missing something?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have experimented extensively with this issue.  It is related to the recipitants email app, but in previous versions of Mail could be made successful by clicking on Format/Make Plain Text prior to sending.  In Mail in Lion and ML, this change does not stick, and the message utlimately gets sent in Rich Text/HTML which is why the MS apps have problems.
The Make Plain Text strangely enough endures if you add a Signature following the attachments that is EMPTY but composed as text only plain text.  This 'tricks" Mail and OSX to not change it back.  I cooresponded with Apple engineering about this, and they say the use of Rich Text is necessary and helpful with Exchange Accounts.  But this does not help the many who are not in Exchange Account Situations.
    See:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17550705#17550705
The use of Attachment Tamer in general can help this, but I don't use it, and it is not clear to me how it would work when invoking Mail sending from within Aperture (or iPhoto which suffers the same issue).
MS could probably solve the problem, but at last check even RTF produced in Outlook could be problematic to those using Outlook Express, or vice-versa.

  • How can I sent photos as attachment rather than embedded in the email?

For work, I need to send photos to my editor via email. In Mail, the jpgs automatically become embedded in the body of the the email, but my editor would prefer to receive them as attachments. Is there any way to send photos as attachments in Mail, rather than embedded email itself?

LaSylphide, the Mail forum shows up as one of the categories within the "Mac OS and System Software" forum. Click on whichever version of OSX you're using, and you'll see the list of categories.
There are several threads on this topic, and I've seen three solutions:
    1. Check the "Send Windows-Friendly Attachments" box. Some people say it works, some say it doesn't.
    2. Open Terminal and type:
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes
Some people say this works, some say it doesn't.
    3. In Mail > Preferences > Composing, make sure "Message Format" is set to "Plain Text." Once again, some say this works, some say it doesn't.
Hopefully, one of those will solve your problem. There may also be a setting in your editor's email program that would solve it, but I'm assuming that's a Windows app and I haven't worked with Windows since 1993, so I'm no help there.

  • IPhone: Sending a picture as an attachment, not embedded within the email?

    Hello Community,
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to e-mail a picture from your iPhone, as an attachment? NOT embedded within the e-mail....?
My wife's e-mail client (school teacher) will not allow her to receive/view emails that have pictures embedded within the body text. She can only receive pictures if they are attached separately on the e-mail.
The only work-around I have found, is by installing the Google Mail app onto my iPhone. Google Mail will allow you to send pictures as attachments. But I do not prefer this. I would like to use the iPhone's native e-mail application.
    Thanks,
    BP

To follow up on this question, is there any way to receive *.tiff or *.jpg on an iPhone/iOS device in general as an attachment rather than imbedded in the email, and "open with" some other application, or save to an application store, like GoodReader does with say, *.pdf's?

  • TS2451 how to send photo as attachment and not embedded in the email content

Is there any way that I can send photo as email attachment instead of it appearing in the email content.

Actually it has to do with the receiver and their email client. Certain email clients will show it as an attachment, some as imbedded.

They are still attachments, even though you see the embedded version (which can be turned off by rightclicking the embedded attachment and choosing 'View as Icon')

Can this be removed or is there a setting to change this. It appears normally in Outlook and Mail.

SIRacer09, I think I have the same issue as you are describing. Some users at my company, when they go into the outlook calendar to open up the meeting invite, the webex meeting info would be missing. It would look something like this:
XXXXX invites you to attend this online meeting.
    Topic: LS Q1 Town Hall
    Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2015
Time: 9:00 am, Pacific Daylight Time (San Francisco, GMT-07:00)
    Meeting Number: 000 000 0000
    Meeting Password: WeRock
To join the online meeting (Now from mobile devices!)
Normally there are the links and other info of the meeting there. But now its just ------------------------------ this.
To fix this, I had to tell the meeting organizer to resend the invite and it would be fixed.
    Any ideas?

  • How do I send images in an email, but not embedded in the message body?

I want to submit some jpg images of artwork to a competition and the rules state that attached images must *not* be embedded in the email body. They want the list where you can see the file name and you click on it to open it, as I've seen in Windows MS Outlook. I've searched the net and I see that this is a problem for other people, but I've not seen a solution.
I'm using the current version of iMail, and I've tried setting the message to Plain Text, the "Windows Friendly" setting, as well as the "Always attach at end of message" setting. All leave the image embedded. I'm using the current version of iMail. Anyone know how to do this? I have a deadline approacing so time is of the essence. Thanks!!

I agree that it's a shame to have to buy something that I feel Mail should already do. That said, it seems that people's experience with sending attachments using Mail seems varies - I believe it's often to do with how the recipients email client is configured.
All I know is that since installing Attachment Tamer (used to be called Mail Attachments Iconizer) a few years ago it's something I no longer have to bother about.
I think you can run AT in demo mode to test flight it, before committing to buy.

if you prefer not to see the contents of your attachments embedded in your email...
Open Terminal in Applications>Utilities and paste this in. Then hit return.
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 1
To reverse the setting, change the 1 to a 0.

  • How to delete the attachments of several ancient emails simultaneously?

In order to diminish the space used by Thunderbird, I'd like to delete the attachments, without deleting the email. How to do this for 50 emails all together? I only found a way to do it one by one, email after email, which takes much time… Thank you!

Thunderbirds add-ons are platform neutral, so of course it works on OSX. You may however have tried to install it in Firefox which tells you bad things about not installing.

From iPhoto? You can't. iPhoto sends HTML emails.

Who's sending the pictures?  If they are sent embedded in the email, then they come opened.  If they are sent as an attachement, they should come as a downloadable attachement.  Depends on how it is sent to you.
