Attachments embedding in mail

How do I stop attachments embedding in mail?

Your problem may not be exactly the same as that of the original poster of this older thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread.
In order for us to give your problem our undivided attention to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail, including completing your details to show what Mac or iDevice you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question. Please remember to post in the forum relevant to your hardware or version of OS X, in your case the iPad forum.

  • Email attachments embedded with mail 6.6 instead of separate file attachments?? How do you fix?

    Using Mail 6.6 - all of a sudden my attachments are embedded in the message, what do I change to have them as separate attachments?

  • Do not want attachments embedded - how do I fix this problem?!?!?!

    I frequently have to send attachments in my mail messages (jpegs, tiffs, eps). However, every time I send attachments in jpeg, eps and tiff formats the recipient cannot download them. They are either invisible or embedded in the message - which I do NOT want. The only attachments that my clients seem to NOT have problems with are pdf's. How do I fix this problem? For now, whenever I have to send attachments in those formats, I have to switch over to Entourage. It does not make sense that this is a problem, since most designers use macs and have to deal with graphics on a daily basis, I am stunned that Mac is having this issue. I cringe that I have to switch to a Microsoft product in order to send certain e-mails. HELP!!!

    Maybe I can make a picture. I don't know if it's possible to send a screen shot in these discussions.
    When I receive mail, there is no problem. Attachments that people send me show up in an attachment list at the top of their message, just like in Entourage. I can flip the triangle and see the list of file names in their attachments, and can drag from this list to the location where I want to put a copy of the file. The fact that the image itself shows up at the bottom of the message isn't a problem (and is sometimes a benefit).
    But when sending mail, it is very hard for me to compose my message. I can't control the attachments, and can't review the names of the files that I have included just before hitting "send".
    Here is the Entourage format, which is what I really want. There is a place to put the attachments where they are independent of the message. I can drag a new attachment to this list any time while writing my message.

  • I cannot upload attachments to e-mails. When I click on browse in the attachment pop up nothing happens

    I cannot upload attachments to e-mails. When I click on browse in the attachment pop up nothing happens, I cant even type in a document address in the file location box
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I downloaded the latest version of firefox

    Again, where are you seeing the date?
    Select one of the imported photos, type Command + i and check in the iPhoto Info drawer to see what the EXIF capture date is for those photos.
    If the date is correct then you're looking at the file created or modified date and not the EXIF capture date that's embedded in the image file itself.

  • Attachments to Apple Mails

    There are two issues with attachments to Apple Mail.
    The first is that they don't work. The mere fact that you have to click "Windows friendly" (which is NOT the default) says that they are processed in some way. Apple, please don't process anything. Just attach the file and send it on its way. You can't change the world single-handed. If folks want to use Windows, that is their (big) problem. Disabling them from receiving attachments sent from us who "get it" so that they give some serious thought to their values in life is not the purpose of providing an attachment feature. (Today I logged in to Gmail to send a .doc attachment. Again).
    The second is that Apple does not provide an attachment feature in Mail. It provides an embedding feature. If I wanted to embed stuff in my email, I would look for the command "embed". There isn't one. When I press attach, I don't expect my text, graphics, pdf's and other stuff to appear in-line within my email. I expect them to be ... um, what's the word ... oh yes - attached to my email.
    While I'm there, how about basic formatting in Mail - fonts, italics, bold, bullets and numbering. I know you can make it happen, but how about some press-buttons up top, to make it easy, intuitive and simple? Y'know, Applesque...

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
    how about basic formatting in Mail - fonts, italics, bold, bullets and numbering.
    When composing an email, you can click on the fonts button to change fonts, bigger/smaller, bold, italics, etc. While in an email, on the mail toolbar, if you click on view and customize toolbar, you can move some other buttons to the toolbar for easier formatting access. Of course you can always highlight something you want to underline and push cmd (apple) U, or cmd B for bold, etc.

    Attachments freeze in MAIL
    The "Choose File" blinks..I cannot cance, or save, or select all, or dismiss.

    I just experienced the same issue...
    Although, it chaged a bit: sometimes hitting the "Attach file" Button would freeze mail, sometimes not. But adding an Image by drag'n'drop freezes the app everytime here.
    Even replying to an email containing attachments (like images) would result in Mail.app freezing, as the attachment would be copied to the new email...
    And it seems it's not related to the Upgrade to Mavericks, it worked like charm the last couple of months, now its happening....
    I tried re-creating the Mail Account, removed the mail.plist, removed all emails on disk, had it downloaded new... I don't know what to do next...
    Does anybody have any idea how to fix it?

  • Firefox crashes, even in safe mode, when I try to add attachments in Yahoo mail -- running Mac OSX 10.4.11, FF 3.6.16.

    Firefox has consistently crashed when adding attachments in Yahoo mail. For a while Firefox would crash immediately when I clicked "attach." Then, for a while it would allow me to upload files if they were located in a folder that the Yahoo mail application opened when I clicked "attach," but if I tried to navigate to a different folder, I would crash when I clicked on the root user folder. I then updated Flash and tried Firefox in safe mode, and now Firefox (in safe mode or not) is again crashing as soon as I click attach in Yahoo mail. My system is as above, Mac OSX Tiger (10.4.11) on an original Mac Pro, all stock parts (I had added some aftermarket RAM but removed it some time ago, before these crashes started). Firefox does NOT generate a crash report dialog when I restart.

    can't make much of this crash log but try this. when you get to the smtp server page in setup assistant hold option while clicking "create" or 'continue". this will skip the actual server validation and might prevent crashing.

  • How to edit file attachments in Mavricks Mail?

    Does anyone know how to edit file attachments in Mavricks Mail?
    Eudora, Foxmail and many other email programs allow you to simply click file attachment, open it, edit it, and FORWARD it to others.
    This is extremely difficult with Mail because it forces every single incoming file attachment to be READ-ONLY which means you are forced to re-save a copy in a folder then after editing it you need to spend time to fish it out of the folder, reattach it and then forward to others. It is a huge time wasting headache not to mention polluting your system with extra copies of files.
    Thanks

    I believe you are missing something. I'm not on my Mac right now but there should be a setting where to save attachments and also muiltiples at one time.

  • How to handle multiple attachments in XI mail sender adapter?

    Hi,
    is it possible to handle multiple attachments in a mail receiving in XI?
    Our customer wants to send us mails with multiple attachments and we have to convert each attachment to an idoc.
    But as I know XI (receiving mails) can handle only a single attachment in a mail. Is it true?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards
    Wolfgang

    Hi Wolfgang,
    Well, although I have never tried a scenario of picking more than two attachments from one mail, I wonder if its possible in the first place!
    Here are the reasons why I think it is possible:-
    It is not mentioned anywhere in the SAP Notes for mail adapter that it is not possible.
    *It is not mentioned anywhere in the SAP help documentation that it is not possible
    *Also, I think if the receiver mail adapter can create more than one attachment, the sender should be able to pick more than one!:)
    Have you tried defining a PayloadSwapBean module to pick up more than one attachment?
    Just try experimenting with this particular part of the module code:-
    Content-Disposition: attachment;filename="MailAttachment-1.xml"
    Content-Description: MailAttachment-1
    I think even the following weblog might be able to help you to a certain extent:-

  • I have been unable for the past few days to download attachments to E-mails on my Mac OS using Firefox

    I have been able to download attachments to E-mails for years. However, for the last several days the download process which seems okay but the attachment doesn't show up on the screen and a note appears about a blank document. When I switch to Safari, the downloads work fine. Therefore, I assume that the problem is with Firefox.

    Hello,
    '''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
    ''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
    ''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
    '''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
    ''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    ''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.

    Nagaraju G.

    This works fine with me, try it or compare it if you want.
    public void sendEmail( String from, String to,
    String subject, String body) {
    fMailServerConfig.put("mail.smtp.host", " <<mail server>>");
    Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance( fMailServerConfig, null );
    MimeMessage message = new MimeMessage( session );
    try {
    message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(from));
    message.setRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO,
    new InternetAddress(to));
    message.setSubject( subject);
    message.setText( body);
    //Adds Attechment:
    Multipart multipart = new MimeMultipart();
    BodyPart messageBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
    messageBodyPart.setText("Here are my attachments");
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart);
    messageBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
    //first attachment
    DataSource source = new FileDataSource("C:\\img1.jpg");
    messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(source));
    messageBodyPart.setFileName("C:\\Telnor1.jpg");
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart);
    //Second attachment
    DataSource source2 = new FileDataSource("C:\\img2.jpg");
    messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(source2));
    messageBodyPart.setFileName("C:\\Telnor2.jpg");
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart);
    //etc...
    message.setContent(multipart);
    Transport.send( message );
    }catch (MessagingException e){
    System.err.println("Cant send mail. " + e);
    The error on your code might be:
    BodyPart messageBodyPart1=new MimeBodyPart();
    DataSource source1=new FileDataSource(filename1);
    messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(new DataHandler(source1));
    messageBodyPart.setFileName(filename1);
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart1);
    You don't need to create a new BodyPart, and apart from that you'r seting values on "messageBodyPart" but adding "messageBodyPart1" to your multipart :P
    Well see u and have a good one!
    p.s. i know it's a little late from the day you posted, but at least it might help somebody else :D .

  • Attachments in e-mails won't open

    Yesterday all was fine but today, when I double click on attachments within e-mails, they won't open. Clicking 'save to computer' also doesn't work.  Any ideas?
    Thanks
    PS I am using btinternet as my e-mail provider

    Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in earlier versions there is only one.
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
    from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
    Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
    Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Some pdf attachments missing in mail 5.2

    I fail to receive pdf attachments intermittently using Mail 5.2 running OS X 10.7.3 (Lion).  When the attachments do not arrive, I see no paperclip in the attachments column.  On a recent occasion, a colleague sent me three consecutive emails, each with 1-2 pdf files attached.  The middle one (containing one pdf), shows no attachment in Mail.  However, I know the attachment is there, because if I open it on my iPhone, I see the attachment.  What's more, if I forward the email to myself from the iPhone, I can now see the attachment again.  This has happened several times in the past as well.  Any ideas?

    I have the same problem, failing to receive pdf attachments intermittently using Mail 5.2 running OS X 10.7.3 (Lion), and not being counted among the attachments
    Two times where I'm aware it happened, the sender had replied and included the attachments I had sent in my original message, and I'm wondering if those attachments somehow led to their own attachments not displaying and not even being counted in the e-mail window.  "3 Attachments, 317 KB" displayed, but those were my three; clicking the "Save" drop-down menu listed only those 3 attachments of mine.  In one case, I had them resend their attachments as a new e-mail, and that worked.  Their 2 attachments totalled 941 KB, so Mail missed rather a lot by displaying just 317 KB.
