Attachments in body = ATT0001.htm: Outlook and iPhone different

Hi,
We have Exchange 2013 and Outlook 2010 clients. Recently, a email arrived with various PDF and Doc attachments inserted throughout the body of the message.
When we received the email and viewed it in Outlook, the message appeared to cut off half way through. The remaining text was found in the numerous ATT0001.htm attachments. According to the title window, the message was in HTML format.
When viewing the same email on iPhone, the message displays correctly - all text is present and the attachments appear in-line, just as the sender intended.
The message headers include
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="Apple-Mail=_EC258E9B-097C-4F7B-97F1-D997E5A6D497"
This KB describes similar results, but has not been updated to include whether Exch 2013 is also affected.
Is there anything I can do on our Exchange 2013 server to convert or preserve the message as it was intended?
Kind regards

Hi,
Does this message sent from App Mail?
Generally, this happens because Microsoft Exchange Server is reformatting messages sent through it.
The Exchange server insists that message text must always be first and attachments must always be last. As soon as the Exchange software sees one attachment in a message, it stops looking for text, and treats anything else in that message as an attachment.
Any remaining text sections are converted into attachment sections, and given fake file names (like "ATT00001.htm").
At this time, there is no way to make the Exchange server stop turning text sections into attachment sections. The only workaround is to include attachments at the end of a message, after text and after any signatures.
Workaround
In Apple Mail, go to the menu Edit > Attachments
Make sure the following settings are checked:
Always Send Windows-Friendly Attachments
Always Insert Attachments at End of Message
Use the menu Mail > Preferences and go to the Composing section
Make sure that Message Format is set to "Plain Text"
With these settings, any attachments added with the "Attach" paperclip button will be put at the end of your message, after all message text.
Best Regards.

  • I need help syncing my contacts between Outlook and iPhone using iTunes. I followed the steps given and ended up with just email addresses showing in my contacts even though I have phone numbers and snail mail in my Outlook Contacts. Using  Windows 7

I need help syncing my contacts between Outlook and iPhone using iTunes. I used the knowldge document and set it up to transfer my Outlook contacts to the iphone using itunes.
In contacts on the iphone I only see the email addresses.
Yet in Outlook I have email, snail mail and phone numbers.
I followed the knowledge document from iphone.
I did it once, didn't work so deleted all the contacts from the phone and tried again. Same result. I have a PC using Windows 7 64 bit.

You can't access an Exchange account via ActiveSync with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac.
You can access a MM account with Outlook on your PC at work and keep your MM email account server stored mailboxes synced between your PC at work, your iPhone, and the MM "cloud". Not sure about syncing MM contact info and calendar events with Outlook at the same time with an Exchange account.
This will not provide for syncing your Exchange account contact info and calendar events with the Addresss Book and iCal on your Mac because the accounts are separate.
You can access an Exchange account and a MM account at the same time with the iPhone's mail client, and sync contact info and calendar events over the air with both accounts at the same time. You can view combined contact info or separately for each account, and the same for calendar events.

  • Conflict resolution between Outlook and iPhone

Once again, when trying to resolve conflicts between my Outlook and my iPhone, I am told that the system can't access the server and conflicts can't be resolved.  This error message commenced with IOS 5 and one could expect it to be resolved by now.
This is today's issue but, perhaps someone can explain that even when hitting iCloud refresh, appointments don't always transpose to my iPhone and almost never to my iPad2.   This has been ongoing for some months and, mostly, I ignore it but, every now and again, I feel bound to process.
My iPhone has settings for three calendars, including birthdays.  I wonder why the iPad 2 doesn't have the same options?
Do I feel better for saying all this?  Not really.
    Cheers
    Ron

You choose which one you want to keep. You can not merge the two entries.
Your Palm pilot would not allow you to do this either in a note. It's one or the other. If you had created items in a to do list (reminders for example), each line item is a separate record. In notes, each note is a single piece of data. If you change both, you end up with a conflict, which is what happened.

  • PC Sync issues with Outlook and Iphone

Can anyone point me to a discussion group which can address the sync issues I am having with my iphone since upgrading itunes and iphone last night on my windows PC.
Most discssions threads are mac orientated and as a result I rarely get a response to my issues!
I am not able to carry out any syncs on my iphone as it crashes outlook.
I appreciate any advice to where top look for an answer to this.

I found a workaround and I hope this helps someone, I had a client with this issue today. Her iPhone synced up great with the outlook calendar but not with the contacts and that was what was important to her. Here is my words of advice.......
    1. Please don't bash apple on this issue, I have seen many posts that do this on this topic.
Apple seems to be releaseing full exchange support in June.
    2. Here is what I think is going on.
Take a look at WHAT type of set up you have on your outlook (imap, Exchange, or POP)
If you use your outlook with imap or exchange, outlook will not create a .pst file, you will have a .ost file which seems like itunes sync cant read and you get an error. With a pop account you get a .pst file.
    Here is what I did.
I made a personal folder and copied all of her contacts to it and changed the DEFAULT mail folder to point to the newly created personal folder. (personal folders make a .pst file)
then I went into iTunes and started a sync and all the contacts got synced up with her phone. ( she was very very happy )
Hopefully in June the iPhone will have full exchange support.
Hope this helps and please correct me if i'm wrong.
    Thanks

  • Help, icloud won't sync with outlook and iphone

I downloaded the iCloud from iTunes and now my Outlook no longer syncs with my iPhone. It worked perfectly before. Now when I make an entry in my phone it doesn't sync with my PC. This is so annoying, and has cost me dearly with missed appointments. I would like to disable it and go back to how it was but don't know how. Or fix it. I've read the posts and I'm so confused by the different responses that I am going crazy. Please someone just give me a simple solution to either fix this problem or to get rid of iCloud.
    Thanks, much appreciated

SOLUTION POSTED THIS ELSEWHERE ON APPLE.COM
TeddyDo wrote: Hi, I have just found a great solution for syncing up Outlook default folders with iCloud folders and thought I wuold share it with you. The Control Panel still needs to be installed but the new iCloud folders can be synced with default calendars in real time by means of CodeTwo Sync for iCloud. Seems to be working great so far:
    http://www.codetwo.com/sync-for-icloud/
Works with calendars, tasks and contacts.
Thanks TeddyDo...this works for us to. We (my wife and I) each have an iPhone 4S that we sync with our outllook 2010 on our home PC. after a little bit of reconciliation they all sync real-time! OUTSTANDING
worth adding a couple of additional bits of info.
check out the CodeTwo website videos as they are really easy to follow (2 minutes) and the software does it all for you, barring a little bit on the intial configuration, which is why I thought I would type up what to look out for.
only works (supported) if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7
assuming you already have outlook installed, first install install iCloud
go to www.apple.com/icloud and set up the syncs (what you want to sync)
iCloud will have set up a iCloud Calendar in Outlook and you will see that it has probably moved all the data out of the default folder onto the iCloud folder so they are out of sync
install CodeTwo sync for iCloud http://www.codetwo.com/sync-for-icloud/ it cost $10, if you live in the EU it will stupidly ask you for your VAT number, if like me this is for personal use rather than a company it is a pain, but if you put your country as say USA and pay by paypal it works
if you have Norton 360 you will need to go to 'manage the firewall' and 'allow' CodeTwo (which is C2...) otherwise Norton wont allow it to sync.
configure CodeTwo by going to the settings button on the Outlook top bar/ribbon and select which folders you wish to sync and you probably want to go for two-way.
if you are viewing both the iCloud and default calendars you will see that they should start to sync, this may intially take 10 minutes or so as it is making sure they are identical - there is a manage conflicts calendar that is worth flicking through in case there is anything there.
you need to go throught the same process for the contacts (i have 1500 of them so it took10 mins) and then tasks, reminders, etc
they should all (PC, iCloud and iPhones)be synced, but your iPhone calendar will seem as if it has duplicated the lot...it hasn't it is just that it is displaying both the PC calendar and iCloud calendar and they are now identical. go to the iPhone Calendar and tick only the iCloud calendar and your duplicates disappear. contacts etc shouldnt need that attention as it doesnt show duplicates, although if like me you may have some old unreconciled conflicts (historically using iTunes to sync PC and iCloud - not CodeTwo's fault) to deal with, but I should have dealt with that before.
we have multiple PC/laptops at home and given this success we have been thinking about syncing a couple of PCs so we can both be clearing down our outlook emails and all our emails sync. CodeTwo do a couple of similar syncing packages to do that...one for simply two PCs and one for multiple PCs across a home network, giving you most of the functionality of MS Exchange at home...will post something if we go for it, but confident it will probably work.

  • Outlook and iPhone Calendar Sync Issue

I’m having an issue where any meeting on my Outlook calendar that is after 3AM and spans multiple days (i.e meeting is from Sunday 4AM to Monday 6PM) it actually shows up on my phone as being Monday-Tuesday instead of Sunday-Monday.
    Has anyone else seen this?

We have had this same issue on the older through to the latest os. I dont know whether the issue is the iphone diary or outlook.
We have 2 phones syncing to one outlook account. If I put in an all day event on my iphone when it syncs to outlook it spans 2 days and then when synced back to the phone it honors this, so suddenly I have no idea which day the event is on.

  • Calendar syncing problems with outlook and iphone

Months and months ago I had the following window pop up when I go to sync my phone:
"synching with iphone will change more than XX% of your calendars"
First I have to say the vagueness of Apples messages is disappointing.  This message does not convey to me exactly what its going to do if I accept the message.  This is my first apple product and I love my iphone, but itunes and everything related to the PC is disappointing!  Anyway, I have been hitting cancel because when I attempt to lookup the problem online in a Google search I don't find any quick definitive answers.  I no longer use outlook on this computer, so I want all the calendar entries in the phone to remain the same.  I've attempted to uncheck calendar syncing and get the following message:
"Itunes will no longer sync calendars to the Iphone.  Would you like itunes to remove calendars previously synced to you iphone"
Once again, the infamous apple user friendliness I've heard so much about doesn't seam to be true!  This message is so vague.  What calendars is it going to remove, the ones on the pc or the phone?  And why would it remove anything, I just want it to stop syncing.  Urg, frustraded.  Any help is appreciated!  Thanks.

Originally all of Apple products were intended for use with Mac computers. Macs have default program - iCal to sync calendars. Windows default program is ironically Microsoft Outlook. There couple more options in iTunes for
calendar sync, but those need to be chosen and not default.
In your particular situation since you don't have outlook anymore, you don't need to make any changes. No outlook - no sync. Apple way - no user interference nessesary.
Please do remember that everyting I write is just my opinion, nothing more or less.

  • Error when synchronise outlook and iphone

    Hello,
I have a problem with an iPhone 4.
I synchronise my Outlook calendar with iTunes on USB.
The synchro does not work since some weeks, and I found a log file with this error :

    Anyone have an idea?

  • Pop Email In Outlook and iPhone

My manager switched from an AT&T  iPhone to a Verizon iPhone (company switched carriers). It used to be when he checked his POP3 in Outlook, it would still download to his phone but it would show as read. If he hadn't yet read the email in Outlook, it would show as new/unread on the iPhone. I'd like to get his set back to that for him. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Brian

    OK, thanks for the info.
I would have just thought in terms of logic that an email message is simply a file and that once it is downlodaed to one device, it could be "copied" (synced) with any other device, just as i would back up my data to a hard drive for instance. I don't really care about the server at this stage, I just want to able to access my eamil on the go, but use my PC as my main interface.
Anyway, I'll pursue the gmail route - thanks.

  • ICloud not syncing between Outlook and iPhone...

For over a year it was great, my iPhone and PC were linked in contacts, mail and photo stream. All of a sudden yesterday (Feb. 14) iCloud is not in Outlook 2010. I have tried deleting and starting over twice but it still they are not in sync in Outlook, hence my contacts are not there and the calendar is missing. The set-up says they're linked but not...I have plenty of storage space.... Help?

This is what was wrong on in my problem.  I had to ensure the iCloud Outlook Add-in is active within Outlook.
    Open Outlook 2010.
    Click the File menu.
Click Options in the left panel of the Outlook window.
Click Add-Ins in the left panel of the Outlook Options window.
Look at the list of add-ins beneath "Active Application Add-Ins" and verify that the "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is listed.
If not, find the "Manage" and click "Go"
Find "iCLoud Outlook Add-in" and check it if it's unchecked and then click "OK"
After I did this everything synced once again.  I hope this works for you as it did for me.

  • POP3 Email with Outlook and iPhone email at the same time??

I have my iPhone set up to receive my Comcast email.
I would like to use Microsoft Outlook to also get my Comcast email.
I know how to set up Microsoft Outlook to get my Comcast email - my problem is this:
When I have Microsoft Outlook opened on my PC, I no longer get the emails sent to my iPhone. The only way to get the emails to show up on my iPhone is to have Outlook closed on my PC.
Anyone know how to have Microsoft Outlook always opened on my PC and receive the emails on both my iPhone and in Microsoft Outlook?
    Thanks

It sounds like Outlook is set to remove messages from the server when retrieving email.
Try clicking on File-->Account Settings-->Select your account and click change-->click More Settings-->click the Advanced Tab and check the box to leave a copy of the emails on the server.
You can then also choose to have the emails removed from the server after x number of days or when the email is deleted from the Deleted Items box

  • Exchange/Outlook and iPhone 1 hour off, and Time Zone Support is OFF

Hi, in reading thru the threads about Accepting an appointment in an iPhone shifting the appointment 1 hour ahead in the iPhone and Outlook 2003, the consensus is that the issue is with a bug in the Time Zone Support setting in Mail, Contacts and Calendars, and that either refreshing this setting or disabling Time Zone Support fixes the sync. At our facility there were 2 iPhone 3GSs that had this issue and the refresh fixed only one of them. The other persists in moving the appointment forward 1 hour after accepting on the iPhone; if the user accepts from Outlook, the correct time is reflected on the iPhone. The strange thing is that the appointment time is correct when it shows up in the calendar inbox, you can watch it move the appointment forward after pressing accept on the iPhone!
I've double-checked everything on the Outlook/Exchange side, the time zone and DST settings are correct. This user has noticed this behavior after DST in March.
    Anything I'm missing?

they are not always on the same time due to daytime saving time changes twice a year in Israel which are not syncronized with any changes in Gaza, Beirut, etc.

  • Outlook and Iphone 4 Exchange Email behaviour

I have set up my iphone 4 with exchange activesync and believe that the basic function works but I experience odd email visibility behaviour. When I receive a new incoming email exchange will push the email out to my iphone but when I open outlook on my workstation this causes the mail item within the iphone inbox to disappear (I use this term as it does not seem to exhibit deletion behaviour). Can anyone help? This is an example of the add behaviour but I have others that seem to be related. I have many read emails in my exchange inbox but none of these are synced with the inbox on iphone, again can anyone help?
    Thank you

You will need to see if your e-mail provider can provide a POP email server instead of your current IMAP account.
That way your iPhone and Server will no longer be in sync
