Attachments included in Reply

Currently any attachments in an e-mail are included when I reply. I would like the text to be quoted, but I do not want the attachment included.
I have tried combinations of settings in the 'Compose' tab, but either I get no quoted text, or I get quoted text, with the attachment included.
What are the proper settings?
Thanks,
Steve

This option is controlled by the menu item (toggle). Go to Edit, Attachments -->, there are 3 options there, Include Original..., Always Send..., Always Insert...
They are toggle options. Click on the ones you want and a check will appear in front of them if they are activated.

  • Original message not included in reply

    I am using Microsoft Outlook:Mac 2011 and recently when I reply the original message is not included. This does not happen all the time and does not happen if you right click the message and then click reply. I note this was an issue some time back (2007/8) with Safari 3.0 but cannot find any more references to this problem. Does anyone else have a similar problem and have a fix?

    I'm actually glad you posted this -- thank you OP. Recently, my replies and forwards STOPPED including the original message as well, 100% inexplicably. I right-clicked one message, chose Reply, and now the Reply and Forward buttons are functioning properly again. You never know when just asking a question will help another user out!

  • Wrong Message Content Included In Reply

    I encountered a strange problem this morning. I replied to a message on my iPhone and it included the wrong content in the reply. The subject and everything else was fine. Just the content. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future?
    i.e. I replied to a message like this:
    from: [email protected]
    Subject ABC
    ABC
    At the same time, another of my messages was of the form:
    from: [email protected]
    Subject XYZ
    XYZ
    The message that went out was:
    to: [email protected]
    Subject Re: ABC
    On <datetime> [email protected] wrote:
    | XYZ
    The wrong message was included in the reply. I hope I'm clear in my description.
    This is a little scary, what if XYZ was something I didn't want [email protected] to know.
    I'm using an 8GB iPhone classic (i.e. not 3g) with the latest software, my mail account is gmail setup through imap (not the special gmail setup, since I don't want the from address to be my gmail account.)

    I'm actually glad you posted this -- thank you OP. Recently, my replies and forwards STOPPED including the original message as well, 100% inexplicably. • Why am I included in 'Reply All'?

    When I choose 'reply all', for some reason Mail adds my email address to the 'send to' list. This doesn't happen on my Mac Pro, only the iPad version of Mail.
    Is this a bug, or is there a setting I can change? It's just a bit annoying.
    Thanx for any help.

    I'm having the same problem on my MacBook Pro.

  • Attachments removed when replying

    Hi, if someone sends me an email with some text and png files etc and I reply, then the png files disappear and are replaced by text ...
    <image001.png>
    I want these images to remain in my emails as we are discussing items in the images and it is easier if we can send them back and forward. I cannot see anything in the preferences that will make this happen.
    How do I do this?
    rgds McDirt

    Hi mcdirt,
    There's no way to make that the default behavior as far as I know. And that's a good thing. If someone's sending you an attachment, there's no need to send the unedited version back—your recipient already has it. If you resend an attachment that someone already has, you're just using up extra space on his hard drive, extra time to download the message from the servers, and so on.
    If you really have to send something back to someone, you'll have to attach it to your message in the usual way. But let me stress that there's really no reason to do this.
    Hope that helps!

  • I have OSX Maverick on an iMac using Outlook e-mail.  PDF attachments are included in the e-mail  as the whole document rather than just the PDF icon.  How can i have just the PDF icon as an attachment?

    In Outlook my PDF attachments appear as whole documents and not just the PDF icon.  How can I have attachments included as PDF icons and not the documents?

    For your own viewing, you can of course control-click on the attachment and select "View as Icon".
    For others' viewing, it depends upon their email reader.  To ensure that attachments are not displayed expicitly you can put them all in a zip file (via control click and "Compress") then attaching them, or you can use third party stuff like Attachment Tamer.

  • Is there a quick way in Outlook 2007 (using Acrobat Pro X) to change the setting for including/excluding attachments when exporting email ?

    I have to export Outlook 2007 email a hundred times a day. Most of the time I do not want the attachments included with the email because I have to save them off to various directories and do not want or need to double up the storage space. However, every couple days, there is an email that I have to save with the attachments. So I have to go into the Adobe settings, change to include attachments. Save the email. Go back into settings, change it back to not include the attachments.
    Is there a way - shortcut key, ctrl-alt combinataion, something, that will allow me to save that one email every couple days with attachments without having to go into the settings?
    I am using Outlook 2007 with Adobe Acrobat Pro X on a Windows 7 PC.
    Thanks,

    Hi Slowtorque,
    There isn't a shortcut but you can use the options in conversion settings to toggle whether to include attachments or not:

  • Sending Original Attachments with Reply

    How do I send original attachments along with reply to preserve the "string" of emails?

    John,
    Just as with Send Windows Friendly, and the new Always Insert Attachments at End of Message (a good feature, btw) the setting persists until clicked again. It does not have to be done with each reply.

  • Outlook 2010/Outlook365/ not showing some attachments

    We are plagued with random situations where emails coming with inline attachmnets are not showing in outlook
    2010 If attachments. Forward the message to a different mail provider , for example yahoo mail  the exact same messages show attachments as expected! So in other words, the attachments really are there but for some reason when the messages come through
    the Office365/Exchange 2013 server Outlook 2010 won't show them and the message has to be forwarded to a different email system to get at the attachments.
    Await reply from Microsoft

    Hi
    As per the information and details provided by you, to solve the Outlook attachment problem, please follow these steps: -
    All versions of Outlook include a security feature that blocks attachments that might put your computer at risk for viruses or other threats. You can still open the attachments
    that Outlook blocks by using one of the following methods: -
    Use a file share to access the attachment.
    Use a file compression utility to change the file name extension.
    Rename the file to have a different file name extension.
    Follow these steps to save the attachment and rename it to use the original file name extension:
    Locate the attachment in the e-mail.
    Right-click the attachment, and then click
    Copy.
    Right- click the desktop, and then click
    Paste.
    Right-click the pasted file, and then click
    Rename.
    Rename the file to use the original file name extension,
    such as .exe.
    4. Ask the Exchange server administrator to change the security settings.
    I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • Attachment only appears as text name when I reply, how do I change that?

    How do I reply in mail to a group email I have received and keep the original attachment in my reply, whenever I reply to a group for example, instead of the original attachment appearing in the reply all I see is <photo.JPG>?

    Most consider it bad form to repeat the attachment in a Reply.  But if you always want to, change the setting under Edit -- Attachments/Include Original Attachments in Reply.  If only for these few special messages, click on Message in the menubar and choose Send Again, and pen your reply and check that To address remains correct.

  • Unable to open attachments from Exchange

    I have recently added two mail accounts to my iPhone one is POP3 and works perfectly; I can view images and attachments as expected. The other is my corporate exchange account. During the initial setup I received a certificate could not be loaded error and was prompted to press cancel or retry I pressed retry and the same message came back, I pressed retry again and the account verified. Mail, contacts and calendar started to sync and I thought everything was going to be fine. When opening emails I noticed that images failed to appear (a link in their place) and while I could see attachments I am unable to open them. When an attachment is selected it appears to be downloading, although the progress bar never makes any progress and just sits on 0kb of ?kb. The message is similar to what you would expect from plain text not HTML. I am able to see the company directory and edit calendar entries and all my contacts have updated just no images or attachments.

    Sounds like the attachments were not actually added to the reply, just placeholder text to show there was an attachment.  Mail, for example, inserts such text in replies by default, though you can change that behavior using Edit -> Attachments -> Include Original Attachments in Reply.  Forwarded messages in Mail should include the attachments by default.  Different e-mail clients may behave differently.

  • Cannot originate, reply to or forward email with attachment

    A couple weeks ago something happened with Mail on my G5 PowerMac, such that emails received with attachments cannot be replied to or forwarded and attachments cannot be added to a newly created email.
    When attempting to forward or reply to Emails received with attachments, 1/2 the time a forward or reply message opens but all the text and attachments are stripped out and no new text can be added or attachments attached. The other 1/2 of the time a forward or reply message doesn't even open, when clicking their respective buttons or selecting from the pop-out menu.
    When creating a new email no files of any type can be attached, period.
    I do NOT have any of these attachment problems with the G4 PowerBook Mail application. I have examined the Preferences closely and they appear to be the same on both machines.
    Per another tip on the forum I downloaded and ran the OnyX application, in every possible configuration (including resetting the Launch Services Database) but the problem is still present.
    Thanks for any help.
    (The good news is this is the first problem I've ever had with any of my half-dozen Macs in the past 6 years.)
    G5 PowerMac and G4 PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    The something that happened could have been file corruption. Try running Disk Utility's First Aid fixes to make sure your disk structure & file permissions are OK.
    Also, if this is not the main admin account on the Mac, check System Preferences > Accounts > Parental Controls to make sure that nothing is prohibited that would impact Mail.

  • Xerces : Parsingproblem when "include" one or more Schema in another

    Hi.
    My problem is that i parse an xml-document and validate it against a schema. but the schema has multiple other schemas included (i'm using "include" not "import" because all schemas using the same namespace). and the sax parser (from xerces) can't find these schemas, because he is obviously searching in the wrong directory - in fact in the dirctory of the application, not in the directory of the including schema. the path, within the "include" attribute is given relativ to the including schema.
    i'm using java 1.3.1 and have tried different xerces versions. With xerces 2.0.0 and higher, the sax parser seems not to validate at all. xerces 1.4.4 do validate but doesn't find the included schemas.
    here is the java code:
    SAXParser saxParser = new SAXParser();
    saxParser.setContentHandler(handler);
    saxParser.setErrorHandler(handler);
    InputStream ioStream =null;
    try
    saxParser.setFeature
    ("http://xml.org/sax/features/validation",true);
    saxParser.setFeature
    ("http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema", true);
    saxParser.setFeature
    ("http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema-full-checking", true);
    InputStreamReader inputstream = new InputStreamReader(m_oStream,"UTF-8");
    InputSource inputsource = new InputSource(inputstream);
    saxParser.parse(inputsource);
    heres a fragment of the including schema (Reply.xsd) (against this an xml file is validated)
    <xs:schema targetNamespace="www.interface.de" xmlns="www.interface.de" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" elementFormDefault="qualified" attributeFormDefault="unqualified">
    <xs:include schemaLocation="./KOM.xsd"/>
    <xs:include schemaLocation="./Ort.xsd"/>
    <xs:element name="Reply">
    <xs:complexType name="reply">
    <xs:choice>
    <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="AKOM" type="auditkom" minOccurs="0"/>
    <xs:element name="AOrt" type="auditort" minOccurs="0"/>
    these to schemas (KOM, Ort) were not found, when the parser validates an xml file. all schemas are in the same dirctory (an other then the application directory). and the absolut path to the Reply.xsd (which is found) is given in the xml file.
    can't sax from xerces handle "include" from xml-schema? or is there a version wich can?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sascha

    Instead of importing a scema in another schema specifiy the schemas in the external-schemaLocation property.
    SAXParser saxParser = new SAXParser();
    saxParser.setProperty("http://apache.org/xml/properties/schema/external-schemaLocation", "xmlschema1.xsd, xmlschema2.xsd");

  • Receiving mail, but can't send mail with attachments?

    Hello,
    I can't send mails anymore, I have been able to send some without any attachments (i.e. reply doesn't work as it automatically attaches the original text). This started 3 days ago. Also, my mail doesn't seem to recognize powerpoint and word docs., but I a know the people who have send me such files do not have VISTA. When I choose "open with" then it works. So I have 2 problems, one being moe urgent then the other.
    1) can't send mail with attachments
    2) .doc (word), .pps (powerpoint)attachments are not always recognized.
    thank you all!!!

    Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if it then works
