Attachments missing in mail.app

I have noticed the following problem with an imap account:
I am looking at a message that has an attachment but the attachment is not shown in mail.app. In its place there is a generic graphic with a question mark. I right-click, choose "Download Image" but nothing happens. When I log onto may email account using a web browser and check the same message, the attachment is there (a bmp graphic, in this particular case). This doesn't happen with all messages that have attachments but I've noticed it at least twice in the past couple weeks (and perhaps more often, but I generally ignore attachments).

I have the same problem: I use Mail with an imap server (in fact, exchange), and after upgrading to snow leopard quite often messages in Mail don't show the attachment; I DID figure out that if I rebuild the mailbox, as also suggested by others, the missing attachment is no longer missing and I can download it; rebuilding the mailbox is not such a problem, but, still, this is an irritating behavior; interestingly enough, if I check my mail on my iPod Touch, attachments are always there, but when I check it again on my macbook pro or mac pro they don't appear any longer

  • Some pdf attachments missing in mail 5.2

I fail to receive pdf attachments intermittently using Mail 5.2 running OS X 10.7.3 (Lion).  When the attachments do not arrive, I see no paperclip in the attachments column.  On a recent occasion, a colleague sent me three consecutive emails, each with 1-2 pdf files attached.  The middle one (containing one pdf), shows no attachment in Mail.  However, I know the attachment is there, because if I open it on my iPhone, I see the attachment.  What's more, if I forward the email to myself from the iPhone, I can now see the attachment again.  This has happened several times in the past as well.  Any ideas?

I have the same problem, failing to receive pdf attachments intermittently using Mail 5.2 running OS X 10.7.3 (Lion), and not being counted among the attachments
Two times where I'm aware it happened, the sender had replied and included the attachments I had sent in my original message, and I'm wondering if those attachments somehow led to their own attachments not displaying and not even being counted in the e-mail window.  "3 Attachments, 317 KB" displayed, but those were my three; clicking the "Save" drop-down menu listed only those 3 attachments of mine.  In one case, I had them resend their attachments as a new e-mail, and that worked.  Their 2 attachments totalled 941 KB, so Mail missed rather a lot by displaying just 317 KB.

  • Attachments not in Mail app iOS 7

We switched to a new server. And imported all mails form the old account. Now in Mail all the attachments are shown. But on the iPad, the icon is shown that there is a attachment, but no attachemt is in the mail. This is only with the imported mails, all new mails are working correctly with the attachments. How to solve this ?

For anyone still tracking this issue, I tried baymu's suggestion of deleting all email accounts and adding them back one at a time.  Unfortunately, it didn't make a difference for me.  Both before and after taking that step, I was finding that the mail app functioned properly about 10% of the time, and the other 90% I was having the same problem as baymu -- when I selected multiple emails (whether to move, delete, flag, or whatever) the radio button adjacent to each of the selected emails would stay filled for only a couple of seconds.  During this time, the options at the bottom of the left column (Mark All, Move, and Delete) were active and showing in blue font.  After a couple of seconds, the radio buttons would no longer show the previosuly selected emails as selected, and the Move and Delete options at the bottom were inactive (i.e., in gray font).can suggest somethi
I haven't been able to identify any common characteristics for the 10% of the time it works properly or the 90% of the time it doesn't, so I'm now stumped.  Unless anyone else can mmake a suggestion, I'm stumped -- will just have to deal with actions on multiple emails on my iPhone, which I have not yet upgraded to iOS 7.
    Suggestions??

  • Big feature missing in mail.app: click sort

One great feature of Eudora was option-click to highlight a group of messages, be it by date, author or subject. I would often let a thread build up in my mailbox for a week or so and when it seems to have petered out, I'll opt-click that last message and they all get highlighted and I file them. I was hoping mail.app would offer something similar but i can't find it. This is very important for those of us who don't use "View>Organize by conversation".
Any ideas? Does Apple actually read this forum for improvement ideas?

    Hi jldelaflor,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
This could happen if the attachments sent in the email are not composed in RTF (Rich Text Format). Please use the following article as a resource and for further information.

  • "SEND" button is missing from MAIL app.

This only happens on my wife's login. We use a POP account linked to Comcast.net mail. The only way she can send mail is to use the "pull-down" menu;. She must do this to send or send a "forward" to someone; the "send"-button in the upper left corner is missing... Conversely, MAIL on my login works fine.
Also note that this computer originally came with TIGER and I upgraded it. Everything worked fine for weeks, until just recently.

you are probably looking in the wrong place. mail can't start without that file. you need to look inside library in her home directory, not at the top level of the hard drive. click on the home icon in the sidebar with her name next to it. then go to library->preferences.

  • How do I view attachments in the mail app? (iPad 2, 6.1.3)

I really need to open an attachment from an email, but it won't let me. On the mail screen, it has a gray paper clip next to the name. How do I open this?

What type of file is it?

  • Mail app stopped downloading attachments

All of a sudden I can't open pdf, doc, etc. attachments in my mail app on either my iphone or ipad. This only occurs in the Mail app. I downloaded the gmail app to get around this, but it's inconvenient. The mail app is so much better - when it works!
    Anyone else having this issue?
All it does when I click on the attachment is pretend to open, then stop... or it will just blip like it's launching, then stop.
    This is so frustrating!

By the way, my Mail App is version 5.3

  • Mail.app not recognizing/only partially recognizing attachments

    Hi,
Since upgrading to OS X 10.5, mail.app intermittently doesn't fully recognize attachments. The mail.app *Message Viewer* window correctly lists the email subject and the no. of attachments. But viewing the message shows no attachment, nor is there any 'save attachment' button.
However View -> Message ->*Raw Source* will show the attachment, albeit encoded as base64
My workaround for now is to highlight the message in the Message Viewer window and then select File -> *Save Attachments...* But it's highly inconvenient. Right-mousing on the message in the Message Viewer window does not offer the "Save Attachments..." menu item.
I've experienced the problem with someone sending me an attached PDF, and also regularly from Outlook/Exchange people sending me meeting invitations with attached .ics files. They all show up as a message with 1 item attached in the Message Viewer window, but there's no attachment when the message is viewed, unless I select View->Message->Raw Source
Anyone found a pattern or a workaround? Experiencing the same problem?
    thx, ...b

Exact same thing here. This solution does work. But why doesn't attachment won't just show up when you view the message as Plain Text, which is, and always has been, my default. This has always worked in previous versions of Mail.

  • Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
    Any help with this?

I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7.  Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message.  I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability.   Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

  • Crazy amount of attachments in mail app on Ipad

    Hi All,
I have been having a problem with thw size of my mailbox with the stock mail app on my Ipad. I curently have maybe ten (10) e-mails all with attachments in the mail app.... but the mail app is using 11gig of space? So tonight I added the attachments folder and its showing that I have some 4294967295 attachments! whilst this expalins the space taken up by the mail app. How is this possible & is there anyway I can rectify this?
The e-mail accouct is setup as POP setup to delete mail daily...
    Cheers
    Brendan

That's what I was thinking aswell, so I logged on to the e-mail acc via the web front and there's no way there's that many attachments/e-mails still there....
So as a test I have now deleted the e-mail acc from my ipad & the disk usage has only gone from 11.8gig to 7.8gig.
There are no other e-mail accounts on the Ipad now so i'm at a loss where this "data & attachments" disk usage is coming from?
Epesicailly since the same acc is only using 2.4 gig on my Iphone 5s (where i have  aslo conatins a Gmail acc also present in the mail app)?
Its super wierd that disk usage can still be some 7 gig + when there is no e-mail account present?

  • Movie previews in mail.app

On two different machines with Lion installed, I'm finding that any messages in Mail.app that have movies attached take forever to load and give me the spinning beach ball of death. I can view other attachments fine in Mail.app. Online via me.com the movies come through fine.
Anybody else having this problem, or have any solutions?

So... I'm guessing I'm the only one with this problem? Lion doesn't really like movies in any way shape or form for me. Could it be Perian or Flip4Mac needing upgrades?

  • Mail.app + Google IMAP. Locally stored messages being dropped.

I have an IMAP account setup under mail.app to sync with a gmail account, its was all working fine for a few months until a few weeks ago when I noticed that messages were missing from mail.app. I checked time machine and noticed that at some point my local storage of emails had dropped from ~5Gb to 300mb. All messages remained present under gmail.
This is very annoying because Mail.app obviously figures out the discrepancy at some point and begins trying to cache the Gb's of messages that are missing, and this blows my tiny, expensive, Australian download quota.
I've now just noticed that the same thing has happened again - I have been able to use Time Machine to retrieve the 5Gb worth of messages, however I'm not sure if I can just dump this back into the library>mail folder and hope that everything syncs back up without having to download the lot again.
Anyone know how I might figure out what is causing the local messages to be deleted? And how I might safely move the 5Gb of local messages back allowing me to save some quote for the month?

Same problem here today! Not good at all, i checked the settings of the account and even if i told mail to keep a local copy, all the messages disappeared.
The thing doesn't affect the iphone mail luckily so i think that is a mail bug somewhere...

  • Mail.app suddenly not showing older messages (gmail)

Hate to post another Gmail releated support query, but find myself without another avenue after digging through these forums and searching the web.  Here's the situation.
    Mavericks 10.9.2
    Google Apps mail
Had all the known issues with gmail and Mavericks.
Things seemed better for a while with the 10.9.2 install, then beginning about 5 days ago all of my historic email went missing in Mail.app.  The messages are definitely there and still accessible via the web client and Postbox (another mail client).
Anyone else experiencing this?  Anyone know a way to get around it?

Yes, they are visible on both iPhone and iPad (iOS7).  weird.  I've just moved onto the web interface.
Apologies for the delayed response - notification email going to an abandoned address.
