Attachments simply quit opening or open incorrectly on my ipad.
PDF attachments just quit opening correctly. I generally get the first page in the e-mail body, and no options to download the remaider of the file. Other times, it downloads, but will not open. This just started about a week ago. I use 7.1.1 and have not recently added any apps or changed the software. Any ideas?
Try closing all apps on the iPad and then reset the device. No data will be lost when you reset your iPad. It is like rebooting your computer.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Why does Illustrator open this file incorrect (coloured polygon becomes uncoloured)
I have an eps file that opens incorrect in Illustrator (CS6, CS4, 10 I tested). I wonder why this happens. The path seems to be complex, but Photoshop and Distiller converts/opens this file correct. So this seems to be a bug in Illustrator. I ca send you the file.
How can this be solved?
Patrick.Please explain me where I can put my file? Can I email it to you? Can I upload this to this forum?
Patrick.

SOLUTION to iChat quitting immediately after opening
Please consider making this a sticky. This is a temporary fix that will hopefully be fixed by Apple by the next update.
Many people, including myself, have complained of iChat quitting 0-2 seconds after opening it. I have determined the cause of this to be either a cable modem/dsl gateway or a router issue. I have a Westell gateway and an older Linksys 802.11b wireless router. I feel that one of these components is the problem because I have no problem in my brother's apartment, where I believe the router is made by NetGear (I'm not sure of the manufacturer of the modem).
In any case, the fix:
Desktop/wired internet: Remove the ethernet cable from the computer. Open iChat, and in preferences, make sure that Allow Multiple Logins is checked, and Automatically Login is UNCHECKED. Close preferences, plug in the cable, and open iChat. It should work. From that point on, whenever you want to connect, unplug the cable, open iChat, plug in the cable, and log in.
Laptop/wireless internet: Turn airport off on the top right corner of the screen. Open iChat, and in preferences, make sure that Allow Multiple Logins is checked, and Automatically Login is UNCHECKED. Close preferences, plug in the cable, and open iChat. It should work. From that point on, whenever you want to connect, turn airport off, open iChat, turn airport on, and log in.
These should work, and it worked for me. Like I said, this is just a temporary fix until Apple works out the bugs and compatibility issues. Hope it helps anyone with this problem.
AaronI saw that suggested elsewhere, and it does indeed seem to work. But as soon as I tried to initiate an audio or video chat, the app simply quit again.
I performed this:
/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7
as described in another thread, and noticed a whole lot of messages containing the name of my router (a 3Com OfficeConnect), under the heading "UPnP Router Info". Following that was the message "UPnP: Begin TCPPProc", and "Broken Pipe", after which iChat just quit. Sorry for not having the complete info, but it was on a different computer to the one I'm at now.
So, I went into my router settings and disabled UPnP. In the 10 minutes since, I've had no problems and have been able to have a video chat between two computers on my LAN. It's working great, and nothing seems to have been affected - even Bonjour works fine.
Hope that helps someone. This was starting to make me want to cry.
Also, for what it's worth, I'm using iChatUSBCam, but the problem arose before I even installed that. The fact that both computers on my network were having the same problem also prompted me to think it was the router.
Like the original poster, I'd be very interested to see if this helps other people. Judging from the log outputs posted elsewhere, I suspect that there are other reasons for the same problem (e.g. corrupt Quicktime) that this won't help with. -
Where is my "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option?
I want to turn off the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" option but I don't see it in my General pane of the System Preferences, unlike what the on-line posts say. What am I missing? Running 10.8.4
Quit all of your apps.
Navigate to here: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.loginwindow.*.plist (whereby * is a bunch of characters)
Click the file, do a File > Get Info and lock it using the Locked checkbox.
To reverse this setting, simply unlock the file!
Another helpful hint as well: Lion, by default, hides your ~/Library/ folder. To make it visible again without showing all of your other invisible files, simply open up Terminal and type:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/ -
I have noticed an annoying "feature" of Lion, and I'm hoping that someone might have found a workaround.
If I uncheck Preferences->General->Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps, some of my apps still seem to ignore that setting after a restart.
Here's a scenario which illustrates the problem:
Uncheck the Preferences setting mentioned above.
Open up a few Finder windows.
Open up a few Terminal windows.
In the Terminal Preferences, disable everything related to Window Groups.
Do a Logout or a Restart. Uncheck Reopen windows when logging back in.
Relog in.
Open one Terminal window.
After step 6, all of the Finder windows which were previously open before Logout or Restart will also reopen.
After step 7, all of the Terminal windows which were previously open before Logout or Restart will reopen, in addition to the single Terminal window which is manually opened after login.
The only way I can prevent this from happening to Terminal is to add the following two lines right before the final </dict> tag in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app/Contents/Info.plist:
<key>LSUIElement</key>
<string>1</string>
However, this has the undesirable side-effect of not showing anything about Terminal in the menu bar or the dock.
None of this used to happen in Snow Leopard, Leopard, or Tiger. Does anyone know how I can disable this unwanted window-opening-after-relogin behavior in Lion?
Thanks in advance.To urabus. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, this is does not work for me. Furthermore, even if it did work the way you said, it would not be a viable alternative for me.
When I hold down the Option key and select the Terminal menu, I see this: Quit and Keep Windows, not Quit and Discard Windows. If I let go of the Option key, this menu entry changes to simply Quit Terminal. Therefore, I don't even have the option to quit and discard my windows.
As I mentioned, however, even if I had the option you mention, it is not desirable for me. When I restart, I want the OS to properly close all my open windows in the same way that it did in Snow Leopard, Leopard, and Tiger. It is not desirable for me to have to manually close some or all of my apps in a special way before restart, simply to cause them to behave the way that un-checking Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps is supposed to control.
Here is one reason (out of several), for why I don't want this auto-reopen-windows-on-restart "feature": some of my Terminal windows run ssh sessions to remote sites. It is a Bad Thing for these ssh sessions to be auto-restored after Restart, without my having to specificially initiate these sessions.
IMHO, Apple should offer an alternative to this undesirable behavior. For example, during the shutdown procedure which is part of a Restart, we are asked if we want to kill any open Terminal windows. The "Quit and Discard Windows" option could be offered at that point ... but it isn't.
Furthermore, as I mentioned above, this unwanted behavior also occurs in Finder.
Is there any option that I can set in my system or in the defaults for com.apple.Terminal and com.apple.Finder which would force an automatic "Quit and Discard Windows" on restart or re-login?
Updated to add second paragraph which explains how hitting the Option key when selecting the Terminal menu does not work. -
Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps will not stay unchecked
I upgraded my early 2011 model 15" MBP to Lion and this new feature is resulting in lots of strange behavior when it comes to system start-up and when i launch apps afterwards. For now, I want to simply shut this feature off, so I go to System Preferences > General and I uncheck the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" control. If I then close and reopen system preferences, the check on this control is back! I have tried various forms of other work-arounds such as locking the folders on an app by app basis in the ~/library/Saved Application State folder for the apps that act wierd and it sort of helped, but nothing seems allow me to just shut this off globally and make it stick. Any thoughts on why I can't get the preference change to stick?
The Preferences selection simply stops the applications themselves from relaunching (previous state) windows when you launch them manually.
The log-out check box is for something entirely different. It stops the applications from relaunching, if they were open when you logged out, or shutdown.
There is no way to keep that second behaviour from occuring as a default. Apple will have to make a change in Lion to make the change something you can set as a permanent preference.
I use an automator script application to perform my shut-downs with one click. I have an alias for the script in my dock, right next to the Finder icon. The same script also "uncheck's" the box of which you are speaking. -
Attachments won't work or open
The attachments won't work or open and that means cant send photos or anything else
Do you mean you can't send attachments in e-mails or you can't open attachments you receive? Are you using the gmail app? Do you get any error message?

Cannot open the file because the open options are incorrect
I'm trying to iterate through a folder of images, open each one of them, duplicate them into another photoshop file and close the individual image. This code works great on a PC (Photoshop CS3), but when I run it on our macs (Photoshop CS3) I will receive the following error on random images. "Error: Cannot open the file because the open options are incorrect" Does anyone know how to solve this problem? I've read about possibly setting the OpenDocumentType but have not seen an example anywhere. This error will sometimes occur after loading in one image or sometimes after 20 images. Sometimes I run it on the same directory multiple times all with various points of error. Sometimes every images is loaded. Any help would be much appreciated. Sample code is below.
i //CODE BELOW
i //allows the user to select an folder full of images
b var inputFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select a folder that contains the files you want added as layers.");
b var fileList = inputFolder.getFiles();
b var tempRef = app.open(tempName);
b for (var i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++)
b {
b var tempName = fileList[i];
b var tempStringName = fileList[i].toString();
i //used to check if the file in the directory does in fact contain the .png extension
b var reducedFileName = tempStringName.substring(tempStringName.lastIndexOf("/")+1);
b if(reducedFileName.substring((reducedFileName.length - 4),(reducedFileName.length)) != ".png" || reducedFileName.substring((reducedFileName.length - 4),(reducedFileName.length)) != ".PNG")
b {
i //setting reference to opened docuement PNG file
i //This seems to be the section throwing the error. Surrounding with Try Catch revealse the Error noted above
b var tempRef = app.open(tempName);
i //setting a tempName variable to the PNG file name
b var tempName = app.activeDocument.name;
i //setting reference to the active layer in the file
b var graphicLayer = app.activeDocument.activeLayer;
i //setting the PNG layer name to the PNG file
b tempRef.layers[0].name = tempName;
i //duplicating the image onto the opened Photoshop file
b tempRef.layers[0].duplicate(backRef);
i //closing the original PNG file without saving
b tempRef.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES);
b }
b }It looks as if the folder contains non Photoshop files, one way around the problem would be to change
var fileList = inputFolder.getFiles();
To specify the file types you want to process IE:
var fileList = inputFolder.getFiles(/\.(jpg|tif|psd|crw|cr2|nef|dcr|dc2|raw)$/i); -

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a starting point:

My skype is quitting when i open it in mac os x 10.6.8
My Skpe is quitting when I open it in mac os x 10.6.8
It had been working fine. Today I did a restart of the system, and
now skype quits whenever I open it. I deleted the version that I had,
and installed the latest version of skype and it is still quitting when
I open it. What is my solution?Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop then click Get Info.
See: Capacity
Before deleting anymore files, verify the startup disk.
Open Disk Utility /Applications/Utilites
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions).
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks.
If the startup disk is ok, try installing the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update.
that I can't access my app store to set it up.
Just so you are aware, you use iTunes to sync, restore, and backup an iPhone, not the App Store for Mac OS X.
iPhone online user guide available here > http://support.apple.com/manuals/iphone/ -
I have installed adobe reader onto my Mac but when I open up an adobe pdf it tells me that i need to accept the end user license agreement, quite, and then open up a new browser but i have never seen the end user license agreement. What should I do in order to accept the end user license agreement even though it never pops up when i install adobe reader?
Make sure Readr is closed. Go to the Applications form, look for the Adobe Reader icon, double click on it, and follow the lead. Restart Reader when finished.
