Attachments...still screwed up

I continue to get those that I send attachments to that say they cannot view/open my simple attachments like .jpg photos and .pdf files.
This continues to be a pain in the -ss! for me and those that I send attachments to. (dozens a day!)
And was NOT an issue before a year or two ago.
Please Apple FIX THIS NOW!
I know I will get the schills from Apple say this is an issue with our campus server, and would prefer that I get a fix for this and not Apple telling their most long and loyal users that the problem is on our end.
Yes, that's right I and all I send attachments to our NOT happy.

This was NOT a problem until one of the Upgrade/downgrades a few months back. I had no issues for years (yes years) and now when I send something to be printed at Staples, or a photo to a friend, all can no longer view or open.
It must be Apple because Microsoft never updates their software and it works exactly the same as it did month, years, decades ago.
Like your answer, all say it is someone else's fault. Again, please note this was NEVER/EVER! an issue for many years prior to some one of the upgrade/downgrades…
It is someone else's fault: http://www.email-standards.org/
As you can tell I am pretty ticked off, not at you but at Apple for creating this problem that we all have to deal with and continue to get silly answers like it is someone else's fault when this was NOT an issue before one of the up/down/grades.
Please see the above answer.
I've been using Outlook at work for decades and started seeing the problem you describe when Outlook 2007 arrived. For some silly reason, it decides the embed images into the email so that they cannot be removed. That seems pretty darn silly. It knows it is an attachment, but decides to display it in a manner that is impossible to treat it like an attachment.
I know it sees it as an attachment because our company forces everything to display as non-html for security reasons. You can click a header bar to change it to html. When the email with an attachment I send from Mail comes in, it is shown with the message and the attachment. If I switch to html view the "attachment" is hard-embedded into the email and there is virtually nothing you can do to get it out except copy the image and paste it into a document. You can complain all day, but as you can see, this is purely a Microsoft/Outlook display issue.
You can be as mad as you want, but I think asking Apple to make a non-standards compliant email program so that Microsoft can be let off the hook for providing crap is dumb.

  • Attachments still getting queued for a long time

Others have probably observed as well that after the forum upgrade, attachments are still getting queued for a long time, e.g. the attachment in this post has been queued for almost two hours:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/433930?tstart=0
(The attachment posted 9:56 AM PDT, it's now 11:49 AM PDT.)
Is there an ETA on a fix for this?  If it's going to be awhile, can attachments just be disabled until it's fixed?

In lieu of working attachments, I prefer recommending www.pixentral.com, for a couple of reasons:
    - The camera icon is limited to 2 MB, while Pixentral has a larger limit. For the metadata issues I often address, I of course want to see the original.  And not only is it inconvenient for the original poster to resize the image to upload it, but many Photoshop Elements users have difficulty resizing the pixel dimensions of photos.
    - When a 2 MB image is inserted with the camera icon, the Jive software inserts a link to the original 2 MB image and relies on browser-side image resizing, slowing down everyone's page downloads.  For an example:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2000474#2000474
    Here's the HTML:
    <a href="http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/4336/skin91.jpg">
    <img alt="skin91.jpg" class="jive-image-thumbnail jive-image" onclick=""
      src="http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/4336/skin91.jpg" width="620"/>
    </a>
The SRC URL refers to the full 2 MB image.

  • Attachments still not opening even after new September Update??

I hope someone might be able to shed some light on this. After the new update I sent myself some word, excel, pdf attachments thinking to try the tilt/landscape feature in viewing attachments, but nothing. The attachment still shows up as a bar with the file name, but nothing happens when I click on it, as the intro video on Apple said to click on it and the attachment should open and you can see them in landscape mode?? Anyone else having this problem, all the other updates were succefully downloaded.

  • I'm still screwed...

I can't seem to do much at the moment with Linux. I have installed the full version of the OS, and logged into it using the root. I have already asked for help on this forum but as I really don't have a clue about Linux, I can't use the help I'm being given. I have a few queries:
I get "an eth0: unknown interface" error (plus others) when trying to start the network. I've been told it might be because my network card is not installed. I have a Realtek card. What do I need to do to configure it properly?
When I mount a CD, I can access it, but I can't seem to eject it once it has been mounted. Any ideas?
How do I mount a floppy drive?
    Thank you in advance,
    Kirk

eth0 is the first ethernet device.
But, you first need to either load the module for it (in Windows terminology, that would be the driver), or associate the module with the interface. I prefer the latter. You do this by editing
    /etc/modules.conf
    and insert a line
    alias eth0 8139too
See also Section 3.1.6 of http://www.archlinux.org/docs/archdoc_us.html
After you have modified /etc/modules.conf do a depmod -a to tell the system about the change (this also happens during boot), or, to load the module instantly, do a modprobe 8139too. After that, you can start your network with /etc/rc.d/network start
To learn more about how ethernet works on Linux, check out  http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO.html
The Howtos are great documents to learn about Linux. Especially in AL since AL does not do a lot of own configuration and own tools, so most of the generic explanations in the Howtos hold true.
kirkl_uk wrote:When I mount a CD, I can access it, but I can't seem to eject it once it has been mounted. Any ideas?
That is correct behaviour. You first have to umount a CD before you can eject it. A proper OS does not allow the user to rip out the media of a filesystem that the OS wants to access.
    kirkl_uk wrote:How do I mount a floppy drive?
The easiest would be to install mtools. Then you have commands like mdir mcopy etc. which allow you to access DOS formated floppies.
If you need to mount floppies explicitly, this works just like CD's and simply try
    mount /dev/floppy/0 /mnt/fl
Warning : don't forget to umount the floppy before ejecting it. Otherwise your filesystem on the floppy will be corrupt ! Unfortunately, the OS has no means to lock the flopy drive like it can with the CD-Rom drive.
Lastly, not trying to be offensive, but still check out :
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=1815
and do browse http://www.tldp.org/ You will enjoy Linux much more if you are going through the documentation yourself - that's how we all learned it. The (in)famous RTFM is really not as rude as it may seem, it really is helpful - I speak from experience and am glad I heard RTFM in my early years more than I would have liked.

  • Ipod still screwed up after restoring

my ipod has that icon with the folder and exclamation point. i followed the directions on the support page. first, i upgraded to itunes 7.0. then a warning popped up saying a corrupted ipod was detected and it recommended restoring. so i restored it. another pop up said it had been successfully restored and said to wait a min until itunes detected the "new" ipod. so i did. the same stupid warning popped up about detecting a corrupted ipod that needs to be restored. the same stupid folder icon still appears on my ipod. what do i do?????

i have the same exclamation mark with a folder on my ipod, but i cant even restore it.
the computer wont see the ipod at all.. i tried different usb ports, restarted computer several times, reinstalled the latest version of itunes, resetted my ipod several times.. nothing helps.
every time i turn it on the folder comes with the exclamation mark, and after 3 secs it goes off automaticly. when plugged into the pc, it doesnt turn off but it shows the folder non stop. windows doenst play the usb detection sound, windows cant see the ipod, and neither can itunes. no resoting possible.
(btw i cant create new topics on these forums? there is no create new topic link to be found anywhere)

  • Emails with filelink attachments still include tiny files as attachments

This question is the second part of my previous question (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/989074 ). I use filelink feature of Thunderbird a lot for attaching big files. Everything thing works fine, however the email recipients keeps getting some tiny files attached with the email. These files are usually very small (few bytes) and are not related to the actual files attached in content. Also the number of these tiny files is always same as the number of file attached using filelink. See screenshots below. This has been a source of confusion among some of my co-workers.
Is this intended behavior? If not, any idea what could be wrong with my setup?

  • Leave attachments on the server unless i save them

is there a way to keep attachments on my IMAP mail server unless I specifically download them? I have a fast enough internet connection that if i want to download something its not a problem so it doesnt need to be stored locally and I'd rather not waste the space on my local disk. I've enabled the offline option for "all message, but omit attachments" however all of the attachments still want to download automatically? can i stop this?

i may have worked around this, by marking my mailbox as entirely unread, and then "rebuilding it" it now seems to be following the offline option correctly.

  • Corrupted attachments in Mail

    Hi
I know this has been posted many times in the past, but I have found that anyone has had the problem resolved, so I thought I'd make another post.
Basically it goes like this... Almost all attachments sent or received by Mail corrupt. Some badly so they will not open, some not so bad, so they are illegible or appear fragmented.
The attachments are fine when downloaded directly from my webmail, or when I use another application such as Entourage (I'd rather not switch applications, I like Mail and its free).
As I keep my emails stored on my server for a week or so I have been able to create another user and try downloading the same emails through here again in Mail. The attachments still corrupt, but not in the same way, some that were corrupted aren't and vise versa.
It strikes me that this is a problem with the application itself, but will a reinstall help, or is it likely to be a system issue somehow?

    Hi Ayman
Thanks for replying. This has unfortunately not worked for me. The problem has been a proper and thorough corruption. All attachments would corrupt going in and out. Receivers would complain of unrecognisable formats. And received messages would become scrambled.
To confuse things, If I If I reinstalled as a new user and downloaded everything again JPEG attachments would corrupt but in a different way.
Any way, to cut a long story short we opted to send the Mac in question off to some teccy guys, who scratched their heads for a few days. The problem has been identified as a faulty hard drive. Although the hardware test showed no error, the problem mysteriously vanished with the addition of a replacement drive.

  • Number of attachments not showing up in Sent mail list

Since I migrated mail from my MacBook Pro running Leopard to my shiny new MacBook Pro running Lion (I used Migration Assistant), when I look at my Sent Mail box I don't see the number of attachments listed (I'm using the Classic mail format).  I can see emails previous to my migration showing the number of attachments in the Sent mailbox.  When I look at View Columns, Attachment is checked. I've executed the View Rebuild command on the Sent folder.  References to attachment (the paper clip) doesn't appear in the newer Lion mode either.  I also did a Disk Utility rebuild permissions command and the number of attachments still don't show up.  I do see the number of attachments noted in the InBox.  Maybe someone has some insight on this problem?

really nobody else has ever heard of this issue?

  • Allow restricted attachments in OWA

and restarted CAS server, but no luck - cer attachments still unavailable in OWA.
    how to allow it?
    thanks.

  • Mail occasionally loses attachments and headers

once in a while, i recieve messages in Mail which lost their headers and part of the attachments. the attachments can no longer be read from Mail, but they're still there in the source. however, the metadata, as can be seen at the end of the corresponding *.emlx file, were correctly extracted (at some point in time)...
i have two imap accounts with which this is happening.
    anyone having similar experiences?
i've already tried rebuilding the inbox to no avail.

I set up a Yahoo mail account. I now use my Outlook account to send PDF attachments to myself at the Yahoo account. So far this combination seems to work and the attachments are no longer disappearing. If I send via Outlook to my Outlook account, the problem of disappearing attachments still occurs.

No Adobe product is designed to open DOC attachments. What makes you think it did? A DOC file is usually a Microsoft Word document.
HOWEVER, CreatePDF could convert them to PDF, if you subscribed to that.

  • Adobe screwed up my computer with McAfee install

After updating my Adobe Acrobat program, I noticed that McAfee Security Plus had been installed on my computer. I immediately uninstalled the software since I use other Virus protection software, but it has permanently screwed up my Ethernet network connection. I have since researched the problem on the MacAfee Community Forms and there are literally THOUSANDS of others who have had the same problem with McAfee. I have tried all the suggested solutions posted and none of them worked – my Internet connection (via the built-in Ethernet port) has been permanently destroyed. Note that I have tried a Wi-Fi USB card which works flawlessly. NOTE: McAffe is UNINSTALLED but my network card is still screwed up.
Since Adobe installed this software with the Acrobat update, I want to know how Adobe will be compensating customers whose computers they screwed up with the destructive software they included inside their trojan horse called Adobe Reader X download?

With all due respect, Claudio, Adobe was the agent responsible for the installation of McAfee on my computer - I never went to the store to buy the McAfee product and I never visited their website to download it. As an agent, presumably Adobe also earn a commission for selling the software and, just like a car dealer that sells you a lemon, are responsible for their actions as well as the manufacturer. Saying Adobe is not responsible is like telling Troy that their defeat can't be blamed on the Trojan Horse. If the Trojan Horse had never been built, then Troy would not have been defeated.
The second reason I blame Adobe is because the box is pre-checked beside "Yes install McAfee.. etc." (see my first post). IF that box had been unchecked I and many others who have upgraded Adobe software would never have installed the McAfee mess. Adobe is counting on most customers, like myself, to click on the much more prominent red INSTALL button without reading everything on the page. If the box were always UNCHECKED, then Adobe would earn substantially less commisions because most people, myself included, would ignore the offering.
It's easy to say that Adobe is not responsible, but Adobe has been IRRESPONSIBLE in selling defective software and in sneaking it in with their updates in ways where most people won't notice it.
If Adobe were truly honorable, they would:
Apologize for being the agents for installation of this badly-designed software
Change the selection box to UNSELECTED
Add a pop-up disclaimer advising that this ADDITIONAL software is about to be installed and that Adobe accepts no liability for errors or other issues that are caused by this third-party software. And then require the user to click another box among choices like: I UNDERSTAND, PLEASE INSTALL THIS 3rd PARTY PROGRAM ANYWAY or NO WAY - DO NOT INSTALL ANY THIRD PARTY PROGRAM ON MY COMPUTER.
I don't understand why a company like Adobe with as good a reputation as they have for their own products would continue to associate themselves with these idiots.
    Sincerely,
    Ron Finnigan

  • Iphoto screwed up. Last roll won't update

My last roll is dated 2007. It will not update to the last 2009 photos.
I deleted the plist file but its still screwed up.
It shows the proper photos in the last month selection but not in the last roll.

Try the following: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in the library rebuild pane, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.
