Attempt to access files shuts down logic pro

Hi,
I'm trying to open a file with logic Pro That used to open but now when i try to open it, it shuts down logic instantly!
The file is on a firewire drive but there are other files on that drive that give me no problems!
I copied the file to my system drive and simply tried to open the file and it seemed to freeze my mac finder and cleared my desk top for a moment only the file still did not open. Only a finder window showing my drives.
In the file are some audio file and the logic song that they are associated with.
Does anyone know what this could be ??...
Thanks!

Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit.  Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
    "Error reading/writing file
    “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem.  If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done?  I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created.  I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done.  Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything?  I'm using Logic Pro 8.
    Thank you

You can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large).

  • EXTERNAL HD WONT SHUT DOWN AFTER SHUTTING DOWN LOGIC ,HELP

When Im done recording in logic and after I close down the session and shut logic down. I then try to shut down my external HD and I get a message saying " LOGIC IS STILL IN USE AND EXTERNAL HD CAN NOT BE SHUT DOWN, TRY QUITTING APPLICATIONS AND THEN SHUT DOWN" Logic is already shut down and there are no other applications running and it wont let me shut down my external HD. I tried to switch HD's and it still wont shut down after I close all applications. PLEASE HELP....

When you say shut down, you mean "eject" right?
Will it, incidently, eject during a session when you haven't used Logic at all?
One thing you should make sure of with your external HD is that it is formatted correctly - it needs to "un" journalled... may not be the problem, but worth checking.
What kind of external HD is it?

  • Lighting bolt port shuts down macbook pro

lighting bolt port shuts down macbook pro once the cable is pugged in. What is the cause of this problem

    Hi reginaldt,
If your Mac unexpectedly turns off when you plug in a cable (unclear if you are describing a USB Lightning cable or a Thunderbolt cable) and you have checked to make sure there is no debris in either the cable jack or port, you may want to try resetting the PRAM and SMC:

    I there.
I don't have access to the iTunes Store. Every time i try to access iTunes shuts down.
    Thanks

Thank you.  I did exactly what you suggested...  I called Apple directly and they walked me through the entire process and I could. It have been more pleased with the service they provided!!!!

If using timed access to shut down a device at 11:00 pm, if currently online will it automatically shut down?

The wireless device will not shut down, but it will lose its connection to the wireless network at a fraction of a second before 11:01 PM.
If you have an iPhone or iPad with 4G service, the device will switch over to 4G within a few seconds.

  • Draining battery to 0% shuts down MacBook Pro-10.5.6

On previous laptops and this laptop prior to 10.5.6, when calibrating the battery by letting it drain to 0%, I could immediately reconnect the laptop to the power adapter and then wake it, leaving all of my programs as they were. I was doing this before 10.5.6 and it worked the same way. I just recently, since upgrading to 10.5.6, tried this and the laptop shuts down completely, no sleep. I then have to do a complete power up.
I hope this bug can be fixed as I don't know how I'll ever be able to properly drain the battery to 0% without having to shut down everything on the laptop just as it gets toward zero.
I just confirmed that my 17" MacBook Pro (~1.5 years old) works - it is on 10.5.6, too, so there must be something specific about 10.5.6 and the new late-2008 MacBook Pro's and batteries that's causing the complete shut down.
Has anyone else experienced this or do you have any suggestions on how to improve the situation?
    Thanks,

    Hello there,
I was experiencing these issues and I do believe I have a solution to this. First, let me explain the process so that everyone understands what's supposed to happen:
When your battery gets too low, the computer is supposed to induce something called "Safe Sleep". Its a lot like Windows Hibernation. On safe-sleep boot, your computer attempts to detect its previous state. When the system detects a hibernated sleep, it attempts to recover that data. If it can't, it leaves safe sleep mode and restarts as normal.
So, it doesn't necessarily have to be your battery that is the culprit, it probably actually is your safe sleep hibernation file that can't be written to for whatever reason.
Here is what you do to fix the problem:
First, navigate and open this file in finder:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
When you open this file, Property List Editor should open and you should see the following Hierarchy:
    1. Root:
    1.1 Active Power Profiles
    1.2 Custom Profile
Click the arrow (>) next to Custom Profile.
Now you should see AC Power and Battery Power. You can open either one of those.
You should see an item under those trees called Hibernate File. Take note of this files location. On most computers, it should be located at /var/vm/sleepimage
Quit Property Editor and then switch to finder.
Click Go and then Go To Folder:
In that box, type the directory name: (eg.) /var/vm
    Click Ok.
Now you should see a couple of files. You should see the file sleepimage.
Select that file, then click the File Menu and then Get Info.
System should have read and write access.
If all is well there, delete that file. Finder will ask you for an Administrators password.
    Once deleted, shutdown your computer.
Then on restart, you will need to perform a PRAM Reset. You can find information on zapping your PRAM here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Once you do that, allow your battery to run down again and it should hibernate properly.

  • Transpose function in piano roll shuts down logic

So I move one midi region to another track then want to transpose it say a 3rd away. I bring up the piano roll, then click functions, then transform, then transpose, then logic shuts down. Seems to be happening all the time now, even on my brand new mac pro dual quad.
Anyone seen this problem and discovered a solution

If you care to, would you like to tell me how your experience was changing from 8 to 9?
My personal experience has been very favourable. Have wrote about it elsewhere on this forum, search my posts if you like. I did it as part of a complete fresh system update (including installing a totally new system drive), going from Tiger/Logic 8x to Snow Leopard/Logic 9x. In short, I've worked on a couple of fairly heavy projects so far with the new setup, and I have (with no exaggeration) not had a single crash yet. I have had some strange behaviour with certain functions, but not crashes - notably, no crash when using the piano roll editor, which regularly caused crashes for me in Logic 8. The only crash I had with 9 was when opening an older project from Logic 8 which had video in it, but I managed to work around that, and also created a fresh new startup template for Logic 9 to avoid any other possible weirdnesses.
Bear in mind though that no two Logic users work in the same way - there are certainly a whole bunch of features routinely used by others that I might never even touch. So your mileage may (in fact, will) vary. But overall, my experience has been very positive. I definitely don't get the piano roll window crashes anymore, which may be enough of a reason for you to upgrade right there.

  • Opening old OS 9 WaveBurner 2 files in Waveburner (Logic Pro 8 version)

Okay, so here's a very esoteric question that I cannot seem to get an answer for. I went to the Mac store in Glendale, CA and three of their techs could not help. I also don't see the question addressed on this forum, probably because it's so old/odd.
Anyway, I have dozens of old files from my days using WaveBurner Pro 2.1 on an old G4 with OS 9.2.2. I still have the tower and keep it soley for accessing these old files, which are fine on that system.
BUT, I would like to access all of these old files from my new MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.2. So I am contemplating buying Logic Pro 8, which is the only way to get access to WaveBurner for OS X.
The WaveBurner user Manual that accompanies Logic Pro 8 says on pg. 26:
"You can open old WB 2 (Mac OS 9) documents in WaveBurner 1.5. When opening
such a document, the document format will be converted to the WaveBurner version
1.5 format. When saving this document for the first time, a file selector dialog will be opened, so that the old document will not be overwritten automatically. Once saved in version WB 1.5"
I was excited to read this and decided to test it if is true. I dumped a few of my old OS 9/WB2 files to a flash drive and took them to the Mac Store to try opening them on their station from within WaveBurner 1.5 on OS X. NO LUCK.
Their techs could not figure it out, the system could not recognize the files because they read as Unix, and despite changing the extensions and trying every trick to open the old WB2 files, nothing worked. My old WB2 files were there, but the WaveBurner 1.5 app would not recognize or open them.
OS X also won't open my ".snd" files (which form the tracks for the WB2 mixes), unless I change their extension to ".aiff".
Does anybody know if it is possible to access these old WB2 files in OS X? I assume there must be a way, because the manual says it's possible and I'd like to believe that's true. But I followed their instructions and tried everything I know as well, and nothing works. Am I just missing something?
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. If I cannot get this to work, then I may not buy Logic, since a big motivator for me is to get access to WaveBurner and still be able to work with my old files on my new laptop with OS X.
    Thank you!

I upgraded from a G5 dual/Logic 8 to a Mac Mini Server/Logic 9 earlier this year without any problems. There are far too many loops to be able to provide an answer to that particular question, but I would point out that some people have found the odd loops missing from the downloaded content (myself included, although I don't use them much and it wasn't that important to me), so I guess the sensible option would be to back up the ones you use, or back up the whole lot, if that's easier ( if you're not keeping your old machine).

  • Major files missing in Logic Pro X

Whilst making a track I decided to save my work before playing what I had created; but when it came to playing it there was no sound. I chose to quit the program and open the application again when it asked me to search for missing files, it did this for every audio file on the programme. When I loaded up my project again there was still no sound being produced. I went to check why no sound was being produced and it turns out that all of my instruments,  synthesisers,  samples, mp3 files, etc had gone missing. I have no idea where these files are right now as I can't find them in finder. Any help to locate these files and restore my projects / logic pro x would be much appreciated.
(I checked whether I had to install the sounds again but it says that I have already installed them)
    Thanks : )

    Hi Erik!
Is it me or has there recently been a sudden increase in this sort of problem (Where some people are finding that Core Audio deselects itself for some reason)?
Any idea of what might be causing this as I'm not seeing such behavior here.... and Im having a heck of a time trying to recreate it?
    Cheers..

  • EXS File missing in Logic Pro 9: Unisyncl.wav and Unisynch.wav

    Hi to everybody!
I just installed logic pro 9 and this is my first experience with logic.
Using it I noticed that some files are missing. These files are: Unisyncl.wav and Unisynch.wav.
Searching the internet I discovered that those files belong to logic 8 and are located in the folder:
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/05 Synthesizers/04 Sequence Elements/Spectrum Stack 01/UniSyncH.wav
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/Analog Samples/Spectrum SQ/UniSyncH.wav
Please someone can send me them by mail or internet hosting service?
    My mail is: [email protected]
    Really thanks to all

Yes, I have them - both samples are in both folders:-
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/05 Synthesizers/04 Sequence Elements/Spectrum Stack 01/UniSyncH.wav
    and
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/Analog Samples/Spectrum SQ/UniSyncH.wav
These are on the LP8 content disks but not on the LP9 content disks, strangely enough.
These will be only up for a short time as technically it's Apple content. I'm doing this to help you out as you're probably more than a little frustrated. Please post back when you have downloaded them.

  • File structure of logic pro/studio

    hi
can someone explain the file structure of logic studio/logic pro please?
(on the pc, most things were in the for example: emagic folder in program files).
is there an equivalent of program files folder on mac? where i can explore apps
would logic pro install into one folder? nice and simple?
would it be ok to install logic pro all on internal system drive (macbook).
    or external hard drive essential?
does logic pro require 2 hard drives? one for installation and one for audio data/recording onto?
    thanks

*Logic Pro itself will be installed in the application folder - just the app itself
*Additional Content like Loops - IRs for Space Designer or Plug In components and Presets for 3rd party Plug Ins will be installed in HD/Library/Audio/
    and
*HD/Application Support/Logic (Channel Strip settings/EXS Factory Samples and Instruments/KCs/Templates/Ultrabeat samples/Tuning tables and so on)
For your own presets and channelstrip settings the same folder will be created in your Useraccount.
You can install all the Jam Packs and Loops on an external drive during the installation process when you have a Desktop computer. On a Laptop you'll have to install it to your system drive first and then move it to an external
which leads me to your next question
*Yes it is very much advisable (but not a "must") to run Samples/Loops from an external drive and if you're recording a lot of Audio then get another external for the Audio files. Daisy chaining FW drives works well, getting an additional eSATA drive with an adaptor card will give you an additional port and is a good solution
