Attempt to open Library - FCPX (not responding)

Running latest OS on my 2008 MacPro.
Have been editing for weeks, no trouble opening the Library containing a 2-hour film ready to be burned to a DVD.
Yesterday it opened fine, but after I closed FCPX and then, a little later, tried to open that Library... the spinning beach ball of death.
Every attempt at repairing preferences, etc. failed.
Just now I uninstalled FCPX and reinstalled it.
Every other Library except the project I need to access opens.
I attempted to open the back-up: it brings about the spinning beach ball of death too. In Force Quit: FCPX (not responding).
Here's the latest of about 15 crash reports... with a film due to be distributed to cast and crew... this is frustrating.
Appreciate any help with restoring this project.
Thanks,
Cat

Hi Russ,
Thanks.
I think I follow... only... I can't open the Library to get to the projects that I'd want to move to a new library...
I can open all Libraries except the one containing my film.
I've been trying to figure out how to place the inaccessible projects (film scenes) into a new library WITHOUT opening FCPX.
FYI, when I tried to open backups (from dates when I'd had no problems closing/re-opening the Library in question) everything seems fine (i.e., my projects/scene seem to be read easily) until I get to the FILM.fcpbundle. Once this enters the mix, FCPX crashes.
Thanks again.
Appreciated!
Cat

  • IPhoto has a color wheel immediately upon opening and does not respond. How can I fix?

I recently uploaded photos to iPhoto and after getting a non-stop color wheel for a ~400 pic upload broke it into 2. After the first of the 2 I clicked on the event to open the pics and was greeted with a color wheel and "not responding".
Ever since, whenever I open iPhoto I just get a color wheel immediately when I move the mouse.
How can I fix this without loosing my pics.
    Thank you.

    Back up all data.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Force quit if necessary.
In the Finder, temporarily move the iPhoto library (usually located in the Pictures folder) to the Desktop. Relaunch the application. It should prompt you to select a library. Click the Create New... button. If a new, empty library is created successfully, try adding an image, such as one downloaded from the web.
After the above test, quit iPhoto again and put the original library back where it was, overwriting the test library. Post your results.

I installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and have had error messages about specific fonts not being present but the document opens just fine. Other times (about half the time) the document will not open or opens as a blank screen, and eventually Adobe Not Responding appears, with the usual choices to close or look for a solution. If I look for a solution it tells me that no solution was found. I have not found any information online about this problem. I have used Adobe Pro in previous versions in a Windows 7 and Windows XP environment and not had any problems.  Is there a simple solution to this? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe, and still no luck.

    Hi nausm,
Is this issue specific to the pdf files or do you face the issue with any pdf you try to open?
Which application was used to create these pdfs?
Have you updated Acrobat to v11.0.7 and checked?
Are you able to launch Acrobat standalone app without clicking on any pdfs?
You are getting error related to specific fonts because the document might have the fonts that are not available on your computer.

  • 10.7.5 client shows open directory server not responding

    Hello,
I am just starting to learn to use OS X Server.  I have created an Open Directory Master and want to connect my various Mac's around the home to.  My iMac is currently running 10.7.5 client and have tried to add the server as a Network Account Server  - re: below, but it shows it is not responding.
As I am a real novice, have I missed something and how do I get this to work?
    Thanks,
    Nick

You are likely having issues because you are not using DNS correctly.  The name "CowShed.local" is a bonjour name.  In order to properly use Open Directory you need DNS set up internally.  The reason is that the Kerberos component of Open Directory is very dependent on DNS.
Generally, I would discourage the use of bogus top level domain.  However, since you say this is for home use, you can likely get away with the use of one (mac.leedern.int, mac.leederm.private, etc).  However, if you do, then you will not be able to use hosted services (mail, calendar, contacts, etc) transparently between the home and external networks (names will not route).
If you own a domain name, you can use it internally and setup your DNS on the server.  Then distribute the servers's LAN IP address to all clients as the first DNS server.  This way, all your client devices can resolve the server's host name while on the LAN.
    Your journey starts at DNS.

  • Open Directory Server "not responding"

This is strange, and I'm not sure what if anything is wrong...
My server is an OD Master. LDAP, Password Server, and Kerberos all report running. AFP authentication is set to Kerberos (only). Authenticated directory binding is enabled. Client computers are bound to the directory server. They connect via AFP, a ticket is created (viewable in Ticket Viewer), everything works fine (apparently).
However... in System Preferences/Accounts/Login Options, there's a red dot (not Leica) next to the directory server IP, and if I click on Edit it says "The server is not responding". This is the case for all client computers, not just one. Not sure when it started; when I set it up they were all green of course.
So, what does this "server is not responding" mean? Given that clients can do everything they need to do, can/should I consider this a non-issue?

Thanks Classic and Chris. Good questions.
The server isn't behaving as expected. Following Classic's suggestion, I tried binding without SSL. I didn't expect it to work, I thought SSL was required. (Under OD Settings/Policies/Binding, "Encrypt all packets (requires SSL or Kerberos)" is checked.) But with SSL unchecked, I was prompted for diradmin username/password. I entered the correct credentials, but they were rejected. So I tried leaving the credentials blank. That bound the client to the directory successfully (green dot). But "Enable authenticated directory binding" is checked.
With the green dot, I tried connecting to the server over AFP, but could not. Only when I manually copied in the Kerberos file was I able to successfully connect to AFP. (Shouldn't the Kerberos file be created automatically at some point?)
So, clearly something is wrong with SSL, and also perhaps with my settings. (The server should only allow binding with authentication and over SSL, but it does not, and it does allow unauthenticated binding without SSL.)
OD Overview confirms that Kerberos is running. Not connected to an AD domain (nor should be).
Running the kadmin.local command gives me a very long list of items that look like e.g. service/[email protected] or service/LKDC:[email protected] One of the services listed is "afpserver". (There are also listings for a number of services that aren't run on the server.)
AFP is restricted to two groups; the username I'm using for AFP connections is a member of one of those groups.

  • Browsers 'open' but do not respond after system reload

safari and internet explorer both exhibit similar behavior, not completely opening. Neither opens a window, and both fail to respond after posting command menu (file, edit, view, etc). force-quit is required to close.
this was all initiated by a software update during which multiple updates were installed.
immediatley after updates (starting with OS 10.3.9) I could not access the OS, as the startup would hang as it attempted to display the User Login window.
I reinstalled OS 10.3.3 from the original system disks.
    - The internet connection is good (mail, iTunes connect just fine).
    - The DNS server address definition is correct
    - I created a test user account, same problem.
    - Console shows the following text; 'Safari[359]* -[WebPreferences privateBrowsingEnabled]; selector not recognized
thanks in advance for your thoughts.
    12" G4 pwrbk   Mac OS X (10.3.3)

    Hello Jim55 & Hawiian_Starman,
Before you repair permissions, run Software Update to get OS X to 10.3.9. Then follow Eme's helpful suggestions to remedy the Disk Utility error, which Apple hasn't addressed yet.
No, I think the OS 10.3.9 Combined Update should come AFTER the fix on the Disk Utility via removing the said files.
Since in my opinion and others, Disc permission repair should be run before an OS update and all Apple Updates.
Running on os 10.3.9, I have found permissions change often enough to warrant permission repair before the update.as well as after.
This issue makes it impossibe to run Disk permission repair .Therefore the
removal of the files should be first, NOT 2nd imo
Which lead to this thread i386 of personal experience and the little itunes helper most tout to put back.
Trashing it on 10.3.9 is the better idea, it will find its way back into Start up Items. as it did on mine.
I have trashed the itunes Helper it makes no difference in my ablitiy to buy music, play it or affect my iTunes Library.
Look for this in your Console, Jim if you don't remove it.
: for architecture i386 object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunesHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/iT unesHelper malformed object (unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 13 can't byte swap it)

  • FCPX not responding when creating new project

My FCPX isn't responding when I'm trying to create and edit a new project. I can create a new event, import a video in but if I try to play it or create a new project to drop it into it stops responding and all I see is the beachball twirling. I need suggestions and fast. Already erased FCP preferences, did the purge script and repaired disk permissions in case it was a RAM issue. No other programs seem to be having an issue.. and I've been using FCPX just fine for 8 months..HELP
Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.8.5)

    Try these general troubleshooting strategies.
Use this free app to trash the preferences even if you have already done it. This should be the first thing you try when any problems occur.
             http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shutdown FCP X before you do it.
    2.  Trash Layouts folder. With FCP X shutdown, hold down option key and select Go>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Pro  .  .  .  trash the Layouts Folder.
      3. Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
      4. Trash FCP X using this free app and reinstall it.
          http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
      5. If these 4 measures don't work, create a new User Account (Admin) in System    Preferences and try running FCP X from that as it sometimes works miracles.

  • Help! Finder unable to open and dock not responding

    Hi there,
I'm running osx 10.4.11 on my mbp 2.16 ghz, 1gb 667MhZ Ram. my mac was set up for me so that the Hard drive was partitioned. However, the other day the 'boot drive' was almost full and was slowing down the computer really badly, limiting it's functionality (couldnt open itunes etc etc) so i tried to move files onto the other side of the drive to free up a bit of space and seem to have caused a complete nightmare.
not only can i not open finder at all...all the icons on the desk top have disappeared and the dock doesnt respond at all, except for safari and system preferences. spotlight isnt working either and i've tried to repair everything using disk utility function on the intstall disk...and guess what...thats not working either, it tells me there's nothing to repair.
i really dont want to have to 're-format' the whole computer and am aware that I've probably moved a key thing to the wrong part of the computer. is there anyway i can fix this? am i able to access the computer without the need of an icon (a kind of ctrl/alt/delete function that you might use for a task manager on a pc?)
    any ideas?
    HEEELLLPPP!

I think, as you've suspected, you moved critical items from the System, out of their necessary location. Unless you have another Mac, with firewire, you are probably going to have to reinstall the OS. This is not a reformat, just an install of the OS. I think it will be a lot easier than accessing that Mac with another Mac in Target Disk mode, then trying to find out which system files were moved.

  • Aperture will not open library - permissions not correct -- but they are

How do I get Aperture to open a library when I get an error message saying the permissions are not correct, but the permissions are correct, and other libraries open fine?
I was using Aperture current version with a library on an external drive connected via airport extreme. I imported about 15 images to an existing project in that library and was editing the images when Aperture closed suddenly. When I try to reopen the same library I get an error message that says Aperture does not have access to that library because the permissions are not correct. But the permissions are set to everyone read write. Aperture opens other libraries on the same drive with the same permission setting.
    1. I ran disk utility repair permissions -- it says it fixed permissions on my laptop internal drive, but disk utility does not recognize the external drive so apparently it did nothing on that drive. Same error message on that library.
    2. I deleted user name >> Library >> Preferences >> com.apple.Aperture.plist and tried opening the library again. Same error message.
    3. I tried rebuilding the library using control command Aperture. Same error message.
    4. I used "show package contents" on that library and moved the project I had been working on when Aperture crashed to another drive and created a new library and imported the project successfully. Works.
I read through existing topics and found suggestions like 1-4 but none work for me.
I would be grateful for any help!
    Thanks.

Please tell me you aren't trying to do this wirelessly!?!
If you're wired to the Airport Extreme, that's better, but forget about running a remote Aperture library on a wireless connection! Even wireless 802.11n isn't fast enough, though I'm sure someone will argue that.
Still, the Airport Extreme only has a USB interface, which is painfully slow! Firewire 800 is supported on all the new MacBook Pros and on the 17" "gen1" MacBook Pros. I'd highly recommend a FireWire 800 external hard drive or even a eSATA interface if you're running Aperture libraries remotely!!
Depending on your total storage needs, just replace your internal MacBook Pro's hard drive. I've replaced a few in the past couple of weeks in some MacBook Pros to the 320GB WD Scorpio drive. Also buy a cheap (~$20) external USB enclosure for your old hard drive to repurpose your old internal drive and aid the restoration of your data. Next install the drives and use Migration Assistant to restore your data to precisely where you were before the hard drive upgrade. Pretty easy except for the actual install of the hard drive in the MacBook Pro, which can be tricky and requires special Torx tools; certainly more complicated than the standard MacBooks. Unless you know what you are doing here, pay someone skilled to do this for you.
Seriously, I'm sure part of your problem is the lousy transfer speeds for Aperture trying to read data, causing data corruption, especially when you force quit so often.
