Attempted to install windows 7 for dual boot but OSX installation now missing???
I've tried to install Wndows 7 on my macbook air for dual boot but got the kernal error on boot.
I loaded from the CD again and it sucessfully installed win 7 but when I start the macbook air up it only appears to have windows installed?
How can I get my OSX back?
For some odd reason when you use bootcamp to install the second OS bootcamp is defaulted as the primary OS you will need to hold option key to select the apple OS then in the sys preference under startup disk select apple as primary.

Try using Firefox. Flash usually works on Firefox when it won't on Safari. I noticed that the Safari does not show the same version as Firefox does. Iwonder if that could be the problem. Safari on the left shows 10.1, Firefox show 10.3

I got this M-840 Notebook a week ago pre-installed with windows 8. I cannot replace the OS with windows 7 as most of my applications are Win 8 incompatible. I tired clean install - doesn't work. I created a NTFS partition and tried installing win 7 on the new partition, but it just doesnt beyond "Starting Windows' Screen. Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

To install Windows 7 on the Win8 notebook you need to change some settings in BIOS.
Firstly you have to disable the secure boot in BIOS.
Secondly switch from UEFI BIOS to CSM and save the changes.
Now you should be able to install Win 7

I am about to run specialized GIS software that may or may not need the full machine resources. I am an attorney who uses QuickBooks for my accounting. The Mac version does not do as much as the Windows version. This is from both Apple and Quick Books professionals. I am using Parallels Desktop version 8 at this time. It does not support QuickBooks Windows version per Parallels. Any other questions? I am a highly competent PC user who is new to Macs. I am entitled to my own configuration choices. That said, I know when I need help which is now.
As to the free space issue I have 665.18 GB free space out of 749.3 GB on the drive. I am not trying to run the 32 bit version. I know that it requires the 64 bit version. Besides, it does not get that far in the process. As I said Boot Camp asssitant terminates unexpectedly as soon as you hit the continue button after setting the partition size. Therefore I conclude that it does not have a chance to see which version of Windows that I am using. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version in the virtual engine (to use Parallels speak), but again Boot Camp would not see that since it is not running. It can't run at the momenet because Apple just installed a new hard drive and I have just restored the data from TIme Machine and Parallels needs reactivated, which I have not done yet deliberatley. When I install windows 7 for 2nd time, I can`t continue installing because of, a boot a screen coming always.
It is, choose a OS to continue and auto installation of windows 7 can`t run.
Please help me.How did you install Windows 7 for 2nd time, with a installation disk? Make sure to enter the boot menu, then choose to boot from CD\DVD.

Provided you used BootCamp to do the installation, with your machine off, press and hold down the "Option" key while turning it on. Hold the key down until you get the screen where you can select which OS to boot into. Select OS X (you'll need to physically click the button here... tapping won't work if you have it enabled). Once in OS X, go into System Preferences and Startup Disk. This is where you set the default OS to boot into. Change it to OS X. Relaunch BootCamp Assistant to remove the failed installation of Windows. You can try again if you wish.

Before you do anything else, I would make a copy of the Windows system on to an external hard disk. Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) will help you do this.
Bootcamp partition needs to be set up using Bootcamp Assistant, from within Lion. There are sometimes problems using third party disk management apps, and the partition order is important too.
I suspect the previous owner should have re-installed his original OS before giving you the computer. Are you saying that there is no Lion on it at present? If so, you will need to get it, or if it was Snow Leopard, the installation disk, from him. In the latter case, with SL 10.6.8 installed, you can then access MAS to buy Lion.
Once you have Lion installed you can setup Bootcamp and restore your Windows system to it, from the external disk. -
I have installed Windows 8 perfectly ia boot camp but on booting the windows 8 does not load up fully. It comes upto the windows green screen for a moment and then goes blanlk. It is very frustrating.

I have dell laptop with excellent configuration. On which i had windows 7 Home premium on C Drive and Windows server 2008 on D Drive.
Now i upgraded my Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. But after fresh installation of Win 7 Ultimate my dual boot screen has gone and Win 7 is getting start directly.
Now i want to add my Windows server 2008 again for dual boot which is still on D Drive.
Can anyone please tell me how to add windows 2008 boot option in boot configuration to active my dual boot options.

Boot Loader details for Windows Server 2008 to Windows 7.
bcdedit.exe /copy

respond with something like the following.
The
entry was successfully copied to {................................}.
Using
bcdedit.exe /enum to again enumerate through the current entries within the BCD store you'll see the newly added entry.
Before you can use the newly created Windows boot loader configuration, you'll need to change the partition for Windows 7 using
the following two bcdedit.exe commands.
bcdedit.exe /set {.................................} device partition=D:
bcdedit.exe /set {.................................} osdevice partition=D:
If you now reboot the system you should now be able to boot into either Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7. -

Reboot your Mac, as soon as you hear the chime press the option/alt key and hold it until the boot manager appears, select OSX to boot from.

Can't install windows 8.1 with boot camp
I'm trying to install windows 8.1 with boot camp and this is the message I keep getting. I've tried several times and every time I get this. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. I've tried installing from a usb with ISO and also from a oem windows dvd. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows installation has four or five reboots, and the Apple BootManager tracks such reboots via the Mac NVRAM, otherwise the next reboot will cause OS X to boot rather than Windows. It is also used to set up some variables used to pass information to the CSM-BIOS layer. If an installation has failed, the variables do not reflect the current and clean state of the machine. A NVRAM reset will re-initialize these variables for the next attempt. -
I'm attempting to install Windows 10 TP build 10041 [64-bit]
I am currently being prevented from installing by a "A media driver your computer needs is missing." error, which occurs fairly early in the process. I've interpreted further text in the message as a suggestion that it's a DVD, USB or some other
similar driver issue. However, as I've been able to attempt each install through booting from DVD and USB, I'm not convinced this is the issue.
I'm currently installing to a 128Gb SSD drive. I have installed Windows 10 TP on my laptop's SSD with no issues.
On a few occasions the installation has continue with the installation, and then failed at about 6% with the following error:
"Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x8007045D". I have not removed the installation USB or DVD.
I did not have this issue when installing build 9841, so am currently assuming this is an issue with build 10041.
Apologies if this query has been posed before, a search did not show up this issue.

I attempted removing/deleting partitions and formatting the SSD as part of the install process. I have also tried installing via USB and DVD with the same issues.
As part of the troubleshooting, I attempted to install a different OS. I was able to successfully install Linux Mint 17.1 with no issues. This further solidifies my impression this is an issue with Windows.
I will try a different USB port, appreciate the suggestion, didn't think it would make a different given the various methods already attempted. -
How to re-enable Beats speakers and sub woofer after configured Windows 8/Ubuntu dual boot?

Windows 8 / Linux Ubuntu Dual Boot
No Sound through two front Beats speakers or sub woofer both operating systems after installed Ubuntu 12.10 as dual boot.
Is there a way to at least re-enable the Beats speakers and sub woofer in Windows 8 when I boot on that OS? I am using the UEFI as the boot manager by hitting ESC / F9, and not GRUB2 (Linux).
I did update to "BIOS" (UEFI) F.22 concurrently with the dual boot...possibly this has something to do with it?
I would like to keep the dual boot, but the loss of the Beats speakers is kind of a deal breaker, and virtualization of Linux seems to be buggy in its own right.
I tried re-enabling the sound through right clicking on the speaker icon in the tray, and configuring Playback devices. The only option available is IDT High Definition Audio Codec. Is there another device listing for the Beats speakers that I am missing?
Only other minor issue with the hardware I am aware of is only on the Linux side, that being no pinch to zoom on track pad, which I try not to use anyway.

Scenario 1:
When you install Windows 8.1 on Windows 7 based computer, the default boot option is Windows 8.1 boot options menu which is shown as Figure 1:
If you want to use the old Windows 7 boot menu, follow these steps:
Start the computer and then go into
Windows 8.1 boot options menu which is shown as Figure 1.
Click
Change defaults or choose other options, and Options menu appears which is shown as Figure 2.
Click
Choose a default operation system option.
Click
Windows 7 Enterprise option to set Windows 7 as the default operating system in the Choose a default operating system menu which is shown as Figure 3.
Restart, and it will be changed to
Windows 7 boot options menu which is as shown as Figure
Scenario 2:
If you have Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 dual-boot configuration, and the default boot menu is Windows 7 boot options menu which is shown as Figure 4.
If you want to get the GUI as Windows 8.1 style, follow these steps:
Boot into Windows 8.1 computer, open the
command Prompt (Admin).
Type the following command
bcdboot c:\Windows and press Enter.
Restart, and you'll see the Windows 8.1 boot options menu which is as shown Figure 1.
Scenario 3:
When you have dual-boot system, one of the system disappear from the boot menu. We could follow these steps to get it back:
Boot the computer from the installation media (Here my example is Windows 7) that works fine system.
Go into
System Recovery Options menu, which is as shown as Figure 6.
Click
Command Prompt link to open the command prompt window
Use the
diskpart and list volume commands to confirm the OS boot drive, the commands are shown as Figure 7.
Backup the bcd file, rename it.
Rebuild a new bcd file. It will scan all disk to confirm all Windows installation on your computer and ask if you want to add them to boot list.
Type
Y to agree with adding to boot list. In next boot, you will get all boot options back in the boot menu.

You can remove the Win 7 entry from boot loader:
To launch msconfig:
Click Start
In the Search text box, type msconfig
Launch msconfig by selecting it from the search results above the search text box.
After msconfig is launched:
Go to the Boot tab
Slect the boot entry you want to delete.
Click the Delete button and then click OK.
