Attempted upgrade (failed)  from 10.4.11 to 10.5 now cannot login

BDAqua: I think there is something seriously amiss. I accessed disk utility via the install disk 1. Selected erase , Options: zero out. Last nite you estimated 3-4 hours possibly....the # hours to complete is reflecting as 56! That cannot be right...nor a good sign. What is worst case scenario if this process of "writing zero's to disk" is stopped? I followed steps exactly as detailed. It's not that complicated? Look forward to the answer, whatever it is!

OK-I had a feeling....But....my other query was can I stop the process now? It's writing zero's to the disk (HD). It still says 56 hours to go....doesn't really look like it's moved since last nite.
So answer me this one last question and I'll be on my merry way. Can I stop the zero out process now? What will probably happen....Irrevocable damage? Hence I might as well kick the thing to the curb and figure out how much $ I need to save to go shopping for brand new! Or will it simply stop and the drive will be sitting there messed up like it was to begin with, possibly repairable....

    Ack! We don't need that much.
    What you posted looks like the iTunes Library.xml file  I will let you read about how iTunes works but not only is the .xml not your main library it is just the listing of tracks in your library and where the music files should be located.  Your music is actually in media files (by the way, it is pointless to zip those as they are already compressed).  Anyway, read these and you will see that your true library file (iTunes Library.itl) is only a small, but still important, part of a complete library.

    As you can see, a library has several components, so "getting it back" depends upon what is missing, what it was you actually backed up in the end, if any of this music was purchased from the iTunes Store, etc.

    Gosh, this is full of great information and I need something a little bit deeper - and because I'm not a techy - can I explain...Apple ID changed a year ago from a work email to a personal email.  No longer have access to original email..... New email and Apple ID worked flawlessly until today - every 3 seconds Sign in to iCloud pops up.. with the old work email.  I enter the password - which is the same... and it says invalid. 
    I tried to delete the icloud, but you need the password and it says "find my phone" is on... i turn it off,  and it's the old email... and the password again doesn't work, of course. 
    I am left stratching my head... I sync my phone and my correct, up to date email is in the Apple ID sections...
    What am I doing wrong.. talk slow to me please, lol.

    Try to go to v1.1.1 first, add patch 3 and then go to v1.1.2.
    From ISE relaese notes:
    Upgrade from Cisco ISE, Release 1.1.1 to release 1.1.2
    Before you can upgrade to Cisco ISE, Release 1.1.2, you must first be sure you have upgraded your machine to Cisco ISE, Release 1.1.1 with patch 3 applied. For specific instructions on performing the upgrade procedure, see the Cisco Identity Services Engine Upgrade Guide, Release 1.1.x.

  • Upgraded from Snow Leopard to ML, now cannot login!

    Hello,
    I installed a new 1TB drive in my Mac Pro today.  All I have is a Snow Leopard DVD so I did a fresh install of that to the new HD, and then upgraded to Mountain Lion using a burned DVD from another Mac.  After installing it restarted and it came to my login screen, it will not let me login using what I know is the right password.  I found a page with instruction on how to get passed this using command prompt, but that too failed.  Here is the page:

    Luckily I still have my original drive that works perfectly, but I'm need more disk space.  I need this to work.  I have been working on this for 10 hours.  I'm about to drag this thing down to the Apple Store, I don't know what else to do.  I fixed the login issue using the above directions earlier, than I had a login loop.  So I started all over, and now can't login again.  What is going on?  Now this time the directions don't work at all.

    So I decided to re-install my original drive which was working perfectly this morning, has not been touched all day, and guess what, cannot login!!  So I decided to do a PRAM reset, and guess what?  I worked!  I can now login.

    Quite seriously, though, if you wish to use MS Office to it's full potential and if you depend on it on a regular basis, then upgrading to Office 2011 is the only reccommended way to go. You can use the free Apps mentioned, learn to use iWorks (which I love, but others don't) or make your system a shambles and lose your easy to use interface by the other method. Deduct the cost of Parallels from MS Office and it becomes pretty cheap, if that is the only PPC program you wish to use, which is the norm as PPC is long gone from development.
    MS Office 2011 is not expensive if it is one of your major work tools. Think of those who had to update their Adobe software!

    I follow below steps to upgrade my Mac mini from Snow Leo to Mountain Lion.
    Purchase Mountain Lion from App Store
    Pay $19.99
    It downloads 4.5GB
    Ask me for restart
    Installation starts with 37min remaining to install the OS
    Around 11min remaining, It fails.
    Error Says (Install Failed, OS X  could not be installed on your computer)
    I tried restarting 5 times, but same result evertime.
    Any help will be really appreciated.

    Do you know how much RAM you have?
    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    If perchance you can't find your install Disc, or are running 10.7+, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
    Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Permissions.
    Re-install if that doesn't work.

  • Why do all IOS upgrades fail from my MBP?

    This isn't the most critical post in the world (I have work around available)... I have not been able to simply update any IOS device from my MBP, I always have the same problem the update hangs mid stream (after the IOS device reboots, and the new IOS is being installed (the progress bar on the IOS device stops in the last 10%)).
    Devices effected
    iPhone 3g (can't remember all of the IOS that I had on that phone but I am guessing IOS 3 - IOS 4.3.2)
    iPhone 4 (IOS 4 - IOS 5.0.1)
    iPhone 4S (I just got it, and I don't remember upgrading it, though I probably did it unteathered).
    iPad 2 (IOS 4.something - IOS 5 <- trying to go up to IOS 5.0.1).
    MBP
    ~2009-2010 MBP (Snow Leopard and Lion)
    Disk space - 10+gb free
    For years I've tried to reinstall itunes, I've tried different cables, I even upgraded my os to Lion, I always have the same problem... my solution has always been the same take it to my Windows PC, factory reinstall then restore from my MBP.  For the future I guess I will use the Wi-Fi update, but it's very annoying that I can't use my MBP to upgrade my IOS devices... and kind of a slap that I have to use my Windows PC to fix the problems caused by my Mac... anyone else had this problem?

    Is your data backed up? How much free hard disk space do you have? Do you have any other version of Mac OS X currently installed? Does your Mac have Firewire ports? And are you using the retail 10.4.6 disc or gray discs which came with another Mac?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Upgrade iWeb from 1.2 to 3.4 and now have subcategories on the site listed as websites??

    I just updated my old iWeb 1.2 to iWeb 3.4.   I have been using iWeb for years very successfully but having to upload using CuteFTP has recently been challenging thus the upgrade.  Now in the navigator bar, my "albums" which contained photo's and info are now converted to separate "websites"  ?????   What do I do to get this back under a single website as subcategories/albums??
    Help.   Been at this all day.  Tired and frustrated.

    You don't have a separate website, but what you need to understand is that with iWeb 1 or 06 that you have just been using, you would have had to publish your site to your desktop before uploading with CuteFTP and what you can do when you upload is just to upload the contents of your site folder, however, when you switched to iWeb 09 that has the built in ftp function, it uploads the site folder too, so this is why - you don't have 2 sites but the subfolder name.
    This is the way that iWeb will publish - when you publish to a local folder you will get a sitename and this is the name you gave your site in iWeb.  Lots of people do not like this, so have uploaded their sites using Cyberduck, but have just upload the contents of the site folder instead of the whole folder itself.  Unfortunately, if you use iWebs built in ftp client, then you don't have this choice and iWeb upload everything, so this is probably the problem that you are having.
    The only way to fix it is to publish your site to the desktop again and then re-upload it using an ftp programme again.
    It might also be time to look at new software - iWeb is old and no longer sold or supported by Apple and has not been for the last 2 years, so perhaps take a look at the many alternatives that are available such as RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux 4 and the most iWeb like out of all of them and new, having been developed by Rage Software, http://www.everwebapp.com.  Check it out and it will do everything you ever wanted to do in iWeb - dropdown menus etc., and more and it is very like iWeb in design and functionality and it also have SEO built into it too.
    Suggest that you check it out.

    Was that a message from your firewall?
    Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    From the lock screen, to access the camera you touch the camera icon and slide in an upward motion. It no longer takes a tap to get it to open.

I'm booked in at the Apple Genius Bar in Bordeaux, France on Wed ... quite a challenge as my French isn't great! The current internal disk is 500gb, does anyone know whether I can upgrade my 21.5" iMac (circa Oct-2009 vintage) to a larger size internal disk, 1Tb or even 2Tb? I already have one external 2Tb drive and another one on order (I have masses of media stored and more planned as I've just taken up photography). Seems a bit of a pain managing with only 500gb internal storage. OR, can you advise me on how I can store all my photos on my new 2Tb external drive - I can't seem to figure out how to set the path for iPhoto to see them (I can't even figure out where they are stored right now!). Same with iTunes, how do I set the default storage to the external drive (I moved everything manually and then imported them all from the new drive - it worked but seemed very convoluted).
