"Attempting to copy to the disc "Bill's" Ipod failed. "

Pop up reads "Attempting to copy to the disk "Bill's Ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to"
This message continues to come up each time I attempt to move my music library from I tunes to my new Ipod Nano.
Only a few songs will move before stopping and displaying the popup.
Any help out there? Thank you!

Right out of the box I encountered the dreaded read/write error with my new iPod Color, which I received the same day Apple announced the new iPod Video (sheesh!). I, too, tried everything from buying a new cable (FireWire), to resets, to firmware checks, even at one point downgrading iTunes to a version prior to 5.01. I even thought I got a defective iPod because nothing would sync after the error came up. What I finally noticed was that it always erred on the same track(s). To see if this might be the problem in your case, try selecting another sorting criteria for your library. For example, if you usually sort your songs by album title, try highlighting the song title column instead (just make sure that whatever way you sort the list it is NOT with the same criteria as you had last time you encountered a sync problem). As you re-establish the sync operation, watch the titles as they sync. If it looks like it is working again, it is because the iPod is no longer trying to read/copy/write the same faulty track (at least until it encounters it again in your library). Keep watching, though, and write down any title that precedes yet another read/write error. Next, delete the title immediately preceding the error from your iTunes library. (Note: It is not enough to uncheck the corrupt track, it will still produce the sync error until you remove it entirely from your library.) Eject the iPod and try again to re-sync. Repeat this process until all the corrupt or incompatible tracks have been identified and eliminated.
BTW, the closest thing I could find in Apple's documentation is a support database article, ID: 301267. The article is for people who encounter the "-36" error while attempting to sync, but the part about corrupt or incompatible tracks apparently applies to just about any read/write failure. If Apple had simply bothered to include a section on sync troubleshooting in the user manual or iPod tutorial, perhaps we wouldn't all be developing migraines right now…. Hope this helps!

  • HELP "Attempting to copy to the disk JODI'S IPOD failed. The disk could..."

I am receiving this message when attempting to synch. "Attempting to copy to the disk JODI'S IPOD failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." It appears that it synchs some of the songs but hangs up on certain songs. Once I determine the "corrupt" song, I deselect it in Itunes and try synching again. It will synch some more until it comes across another song it doesn't care for. I found 4 songs out of 130 that were problematic. This makes for a very painstaking process. Any help would be appreciated.

You're not the only one. I use a Mac, and I have come across this same problem. I wonder how it determines which ones it wants to sync and which ones it doesn't.

  • Attempting to copy to the disc failed

My itunes library will not sync completely to my ipod. It will sync 70 percent and then the error message "attempting to copy to the disc failed" It seems to sync randomly with no rhyme or reason. I have tried the 5 R's several times.

I can not say this will solve the problem for everyone - but I tried many of these suggestions and found one myself.
My backup utility was causing the problem - not sure why - but after I installed the current release of Arconis it cause every ipod I have to fail.
I have four - and none of them would sync. I removed the backup SW and all is working.
Guess I will have to find another way to backup critical files.

  • Attempting to copy to the disk "Anthony's I" failed. An unknown error (-69)

Attempting to copy to the disk "Anthony's I" failed. An unknown error occured (-69) keeps popping up in an error box every time I try sync music to my 3rd gen shuffle. The amount of music and everything seems fine. Can anybody please help me with this as me and my son now have two shuffles that won't sync.

Suggests a possible problem with the source files on your computer. Check the source disk for errors and backup if you don't already do so. See HT1210: iTunes displays a -69 error when syncing iPod for more details.
The SyncToy backup program is also a good way to identify exactly which files cannot be read. Repeated runs may succed in copying files which won't copy over on the first attempt.

I was having more or less this problem with my 4G ipod, and, for me at least, I have it solved. I tried all kinds of things (restoring, reinstalling itunes etc) but it finally dawned on me that it might be one of the to-be-synced files that was causing the problem.
I noted that I had been able to sync a single podcast with the ipod before the process failed (similar to the experience of a previous poster). Well, since the next podcast to be synced was always the same I figured that this file might be the culprit. Lo and behold, when I deleted that podcast from my library everything worked fine.
So, if you are having this problem, note the song that is attempting to be synced when the process fails and delete it.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Attempting to copy to the disk failed"

When i connect my ipod to the computer it successfully loads around 40 songs (of my 300 song library), but then stops, and itunes comes up with a message which says "Attempting to copy to the disk "(my name)ipod" failed. This disk could not be read from or written to." I have no idea how to fix this. Please help me, ive had endless problems with this and just want to get it working for once. Thankyou.

If its not stopping on one exact named song like tina turner - simply the best and stops on any random song at number 40, this most likly is a "Glitch" area on the harddrive inside the iPod.
to correct it you will restore the ipod with the latest iPod updater (Latest one is 2006-03-23). A restore will wipe the iPOd clean of everything and you can use the updater to update the ipods software with the latest bug fixes and features. http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Help - Attempting to copy to the disk "J" failed. An unknown error occured

pls help I get the above error Attempting to copy to the disk "J" failed. An unknown error occured (-69) when I connect my ipod nano 8GB Gen 3 and try to synch. Ive got the latest Itunes software, Ive done the 5 r's, Ive tried a different USB cable. I can't think of anything else left to try, when I d/c on my computer it doesn't bring up my ipod but under device manager its there, says its working properly

This is the same thing that just happened to me. My error message reads as follows: "Attempting to copy to the disk "C's IP" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to". I've reset and restored. It still will not add the last 3 songs that I have purchased from Itunes. I have completely read the manual and can't find anything that deals with this problem. I have only had my ipod for 10 months. I hope someone can help with this.

  • "attempting to copy to the disk C:\ failed. the file name was invalid or...

"attempting to copy to the disk C:\ failed. the file name was invalid or too long." This was the message that I keep getting after trying to "add folder to library" of multiple tracks from an external hard drive. it only happens after a certain period of time.. i get about half of my tracks added before this message pops up. when i first got my i pod it worked fine. but after i hooked up my i pod several times without having that external drive on... the i pod took over that drive letter that my external drive used to use. so.. when i turned on my external drive, it was given a new letter.. then i tunes would not recognize those 1500 tracks that came from my external drive (explanation points listed next to tracks). so.. I deleted all of those files manually, then tried to add folder to library again from the new letter coordinating to my external hd. I kept getting that message above. after that i deleted all files associated with i tunes.. and uninstalled i tunes.. then did a reinstall.. did i tunes update from site... and tried to just add the set of tracks from that external hd... still same **** error. only now.. after i say ok to error... i tunes continues for like 2 seconds.. then has to shut down... ****!!! can anyone help me with this... anyone?

just to update my problem... I finally figured out that i had to disable the "copy to my itunes folder from my library option. just so you know. apparently i tunes cant handle the large transfer to itunes and also at the same time copy it to your itunes folder... APPLE fix this!!!!!! this suxxxxx....

Second my ipod worked fine until about a few hours ago, when i was adding new files now i get this error:
" Attempting to copy to the disk " ipod " failed. The disk could be read from or written to. "
I tried removing the files i just added but it didnt help. I tried restoring the ipod but it doesnt help. I know its not hardware problem. How do I find out what files are messing up my ipod.
It works fine with everyhting but music. Also it will start syncing then randomly give me this message, i got up to 500 songs (that play fine, but then it stops and gives me this bs. i hvae 3000 + more that wont sync. Can someone please help me before i smash this thing?

Eh, there could be an issue with one of the audio files it is trying to sync over. Best bet is to do a fresh restore on the iPod and then follow the steps in the following article to see if it addresses your issue. (and yes, I know it's not the exact error you're receiving, but try it)
