My Ipod won't perform an automatic update of my songs. I changed the settings to manual and it will only update certain songs in my library. Please help!

Dear all,
My first time posting - my ipod was dropping songs so i tried resetting it and putting the songs back on. Didnt work so i ended up restoring it. I was initially on itunes 4 but then upgraded to itunes 6. Now - i have restored the ipod, cleared all the songs but cant put any of my songs from before back on as i get this error message after about 60 songs.
What happens is i plug the ipod into my pc, it says it is copying, updating but when it gets to a certan point (different every time), i get the message above! Also - youd think that the songs its updated would be on my ipod at least but nothing at all. And its frozen saying 'do not disconnect'
Please help me not spend £169 to fix my poor U2 ipod!

I have experienced the same problem over the last few days. Last night, I tried the apple troubleshooting guide titled "iPod shows up in windows but not in Itunes". The reason I did this is that after experiencing the same errors that you have, I updated my Itunes and Ipod to most current OS, and then my Ipod was not being recognized at all! After 3 hours of trying to get the fixit instructions to take, I had to get some sleep. I still have no contact between Ipod and Itunes, but if I get the bug worked out, I'll follow up and let you know what happened. I'd appreciate you sharing your success as well if you find some.

I apologize if this issue has been addressed before, but I’m pretty well at the end of my rope here. As mentioned in the title, the message is:
“Attempting to copy to the disk failed. An unknown error occurred (-51)”
I have tried resetting my 20G iPod, as well as re-downloading and running the iTunes and iPod installer. If I delete something off of my iPod, unplug it, and then plug it back in again, the song name is there again, but this time it has an exclamation point next to it and it won’t play the song. It plays the rest of the music fine through the computer and through my stereo (I was having some problems with it skipping to the next song in the middle of a song, but I reset it and haven’t had the problem since). I don’t want to have to restore the iPod for the simple fact that I didn’t take the time to backup all my music. That would be a pain. Also, something else I’ve noticed is that I can actually hear its hard drive now kicking in and out when it’s really quiet and plugged into the computer. I hope that I just never noticed that before.
Without having to restore, is there anything else that I haven’t tried? HELP!!

i bought a whole bunch of stuff on itunes, then when i went to sync my ipod it asked if i wanted to update to the new software, i said yes and updated, then while it was syncing it says attempting to copy to the disk failed, an unknown error. it wont put any of the new video or music i bought on my ipod. its an 80 gig, ipod classic.

I am simply trying to sync my son's iTouch with iTunes and I get the following error:

All my software (e.g.: iTunes) and the iOS is fully up-to-date.

Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, or 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore.

I am syncing my iPad to my MacBook Pro (Running 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2). I get an error message stating "attempting to copy to the disk failed ", Then it says that it is an Evernote File that is causing the issue. I have removed the file and the Evernote App. Still wont sync music, movies, etc.
I have tried using DiskAid and it synced properly one time then it came right back to the same old issues. This is very frustrating. Any solutions out there?

Try:
1. Using a different USB port on the MBP
2. Restoring the iPad
One or both should work (don't you just love the word 'should'?)

i literally just bought my ipod classic today, and the first time i try to sync it, it says that attempting to copy to the disk failed. it will sync a few songs, then get caught up freeze and show me this message. it's a brand new ipod and i've tried all the fixes i can find on this god foresaken website. please help!

"attempting to copy to the disk failed" midstream

When trying to sync my ipod touch i get partway through, it looks like everything is going fine, then suddenly an error dialog box pops up that says "attempting to copy to the disk "my pod" failed. The device is not connected". Then it stops. some of my content gets onto the itouch, but not all. I have recently restored all my computer harddrive and settings, and I have the most up-to-date itunes and itouch software installed. I do not have this problem btw when syncing my older ipod classic. any ideas??

Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
After you "restored all my computer harddrive and settings" did you uninstall and reinstall a fresh copy of iTunes? If not you may need to uninstall all four components and reinstall iTunes:

Once uninstalled, I suggest saving the iTunes download to your Desktop and running it from there rather than running it from the web. You may also want to temporarily turn off or disable any Security/Spyware software before running the installer.
There are several additional things you can try that may resolve the issue.
Make sure the iPod Touch is connected directly to the computer rather than through a USB hub. You may also remove other USB devices other than your keyboard and mouse to eliminate any possible hardware conflicts.
Reset the iPod Touch by holding down both the Sleep/Wake button and Home buttons together until you see the Apple logo (ignore the "Slide to Power Off" prompt).
If the issue persists, you may need to restore the iPod using iTunes:

If all of the above do not resolve, you might try on a different computer or have the iPod diagnosed at a local Apple Retail Store or by contacting Apple Tech Support by calling the support number appropriate for your region.

When i connect my ipod to the computer it successfully loads around 40 songs (of my 300 song library), but then stops, and itunes comes up with a message which says "Attempting to copy to the disk "(my name)ipod" failed. This disk could not be read from or written to." I have no idea how to fix this. Please help me, ive had endless problems with this and just want to get it working for once. Thankyou.

If its not stopping on one exact named song like tina turner - simply the best and stops on any random song at number 40, this most likly is a "Glitch" area on the harddrive inside the iPod.
to correct it you will restore the ipod with the latest iPod updater (Latest one is 2006-03-23). A restore will wipe the iPOd clean of everything and you can use the updater to update the ipods software with the latest bug fixes and features. http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

If someone could help me you would make me very happy!
I have had loads of different computers and 2 different ipods all on the same itunes account. I now have my own laptop for keeps so decided to deauthorise all computers and start afresh.
The only place I now have all my tunes is on both ipods - 1 is a shuffle and 1 is a video ipod.
I tried to transfer purchases from the shuffle and get the above error. I have tried following the instructions on this page:

However I don't have a "sync songs" button when right clicking the ipod. I also do not have the option not to sync unchecked songs. I am running version 8.2 of itunes so cannot understand why I don't have this option.
Does anyone know how to get around this other than restoring the ipod? I have spent a lot of money putting tunes on there so really don't want to restore :/

That is what I keep getting when I plug my (brand new) IPD classic in to the USB port and try to synch.
I have 29GB of muic on my laptop but for some rason only 26GB will transfer to the IPOD. Now I get the error message whenever I try to synch to get the remaining songs loaded.
I am about to return teh unit and get my money back. For 3 days I have been struggling t get all my songs loaded.
Does anyone know what this stupid error message means?

I recently bought my son who is special needs an iPod shuffle gen 4 and nothing but complications. I kept getting error message saying it could not be read from or written to. Then it would not even charge up. I let ig charge on computer for 6 hours it turned green. Then I went to check it out and it went to orange then nothing. So, I took it back to the storea and got another. I am home excited for my son and nothing it is doing the same thing! Someone please help me I am ready to swear off iPod period!

I had this issue and couldn't figure out what it was for the life of me. I am running windows 7 and the latest version of itunes. I tried multiple reinstalls of itunes and restores of the ipod. I finally got it fixed by following this guide.

I don't know if you've found a fix for your problem or what exactly could be causing it, but I'm wrestling with the same issue myself.
Some say it's happens when your files are corrupted.

I installed new windows 8, ever since then all of my I-pods, which I have 5 different ones from various years are stating "attempting to copy to the disk, then name of the I-pod failed. The disk could not be read from or written to".
